One-Shot, could be more over time.

Sonic and Tails take a "shortcut" based on Sonic's ideas and end up in a very... Scary place. At least, that's what Tails calls it. The place in question? Mystic Cave Zone.

Rated T because of the odd profanity.

Sonic walked ahead of Tails and into a mountain cave side. Sliding down and out of sight. Tails etched closer to the side of the entrance.

"Ummm... Are you sure we have to do this?" Tails asked with fear in his voice. "I'm not so sure..."

Sonic's voice came up a few minutes later. "It's alright Tails! I'm here aren't I?"

Tails poked his fingers together. "I'm scared of the dark... I always have a ni-night light..."

Sonic's laughter had Tails frown. "It's not funny!" Tails flailed.

"C'mon little bro! It's only a small way down!"

Tails sighed and mustered up his courage. "Okay..." He walked forwards only to slide down a HUGE incline. "W-W-WOAHHHH!" He exclaimed as he went flying down to the darkness.

"H-Help!" The Fox shouted, grabbing onto a vine that was... In reality - Only half a meter away from Sonic.

Sonic sighed. "... Seriously?" He shook his head and grasped onto one of Tails' twin tails and yanked.

Tails yelped and let go of the vine only to fall onto the floor in front of Sonic in a heap. He looked up at the Blue hedgehog who smirked at him. "And... That was for, what exactly?" Tails asked him.

Sonic chuckled. "You look funny. C'mon, we need to catch up with Robotnick."

Tails sighed and gathered himself to his feet, looking around, yep, this was a VERY dark place. Fairly minimal lighting that hung from small lanterns that seemed... Almost man-made. Wait... Had Robotnick done this to be helpful? Or, so his bad nicks could see them?

Awhile into moving through the Mystic Cave, Sonic felt his left hand be grabbed by another gloved one. He looked behind and saw Tails duck underneath a bad nick disguised as a spider. "Heh... Scared are ya?"

Tails nodded. "Y-Y-You don't know the ha-half of it..." Tails muttered and then jumped as a LITERAL spider landed on his head. "IYAH!"

Sonic chuckled again. His little bro was so cute sometimes. He would never admit it to Tails though, too many crossed wires in the past and all that.

Eventually, Tails felt the gloved hands separate and after a few tense moments, grasp again onto something. "S-Sonic... Pleas-please, tell me that's you..."

"I hate to break it to you bud, but that ain't my hand yer holdin'"

Tails looked to his gloved hand and it was holding onto a bad nick with a white hand. All the colour in his face drained away and he jumped as high as he could (in a cave) and flew high up and refused to come down.

Sonic sighed. This was getting to be a headache. Maybe bringing Tails with him was a mistake?

Tails had been insistent from the start though. Always wanting to follow him. To take knowledge from him, and to help him in any-way Tails could.

The Sun had since gone down, that was obvious by the way the Cave was more clearer to Sonic's eyes. Tails was hovering...

Near a trap.

'...Crap...' Sonic thought as he shifted into overdrive and raced forwards, jumped into the air, grasped onto Tails' left leg - Cartwheeling down another side of the cave which had Tails literally scream bloody murder but Sonic knew he had to protect his little buddy. Anyway, he could.

After getting to a safe location, Sonic let go of Tails and Tails checked himself over. Glad, he hadn't gotten into a trap admittedly, but slightly annoyed he had been grabbed by Sonic... AGAIN. It was to keep him safe though, so he was thankful.

Eventually, the cave started to go up in terms of incline and Sonic looked to Tails. "We're almost out." He said to the fox who seemed... More than happy with the situation.

As they got to the top - They saw a HUGE Metropolis literally CRAWLING with Badnicks ahead of them. Sonic groaned. "Great..."

Tails looked to Sonic. "What is it?" Sonic pointed to the huge machine city and Tails followed his finger. "Oh..."

"We've got a LOT of work to do, bud."

Tails nodded. "We'd best get to it then."

Sonic rolled his eyes. "All this... I sure hope the others have a big party ready for us when we get back."

Tails half-smiled at Sonic's thoughts. "Yeah, let's hope so."

And so, Sonic and Tails exited the Mystic Cave Zone and headed into the Metropolis Zone. Preparing themselves for what lies ahead.
