The day after they figured out that Izuku had a quirk was the day before Izuku's weekly video call with his dad, but he couldn't wait another day to tell him, so he begged Inko to let him call.
"Hey, Dad!"
Hisashi smiled tiredly from his side of the world. It was still early morning where he was, and he hadn't gotten much sleep, but he was always happy to get to talk to Izuku.
"Hey, Izu! How are you?"
"I'm awesome Dad! And guess what?"
"What?"
"I got my quirk!"
That woke Hisashi up.
"That's amazing Izu! I hope it's your mother's quirk, or else you might burn the house down."
Izuku's face puffed up.
"I would not!"
"He could still burn it down with mine too," Inko said from where she was preparing dinner in the kitchen.
"Not you too Mom!"
"I'm just messing with you Izu," Said Hisashi, "So what's your quirk, that you definitely won't use to accidentally burn the house?"
"I can know what's around me," Izuku said excitedly, happy enough to be talking about his quirk that he ignored his dad's remark.
"That sounds cool. How does it work exactly? And what do you mean by "know"?" He asked, already knowing that Izuku's love of knowledge and insane curiosity for all things quirk and hero would have motivated him to know everything about it as soon as possible.
"I can tell what's around me, doesn't matter if I can't see it, like if it's behind a wall or a person's back! Mom did an experiment to see if it was right, she held a toy behind her back and I knew which one it was! Isn't that so cool?"
"That sounds awesome! Do you know how far it goes?"
"About half a meter, but Mom says it'll probably get bigger as I grow up."
"Well, Mom is usually right, so I'd trust her."
They paused talking for a moment
"You could probably find the matches with it-"
"Bye Dad I think Mom's calling me!"
~~~~~~~~~~〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜~~~~~~~~~~~
The doorbell rang.
Izuku looked up from his playing in the living room.
It had been a few weeks after his quirk had manifested, and he and Kacchan would play a lot together, but Kacchan had been busy that day.
Mom didn't immediately come to open the door, so Izuku got up to answer it.
When he reached the door, he could tell that behind it is a tall man in a suit and tie and form-fitting pants.
He opened it.
Behind it was a tall man, with all the things he had seen with his quirk, plus glasses and green hair with yellow streaks in it, Izuku not being high enough for his quirk to reach the older man's head.
"Mom! There's a man at the door!"
"I'm coming Izuku!"
While his mom made her way to the door, Izuku smiled up at the man.
"So who are you?"
The man looked away for a second, seeming a bit embarrassed.
"Well... em... I am. You see-"
"Mirai!"
Inko came running down the hallway to greet the stranger who had been standing right outside the doorway. When she reached him, she tackle-hugged him.
By the time she had dragged the stranger to the living room, Izuku was curious about who they were.
"Izuku, this is your uncle, Mirai."
Izuku's eyes filled with stars and squealed as he attempted to tackle hug his uncle too.
"Why don't you show your uncle around while I make some tea?" suggested Inko.
"Sure!"
Izuku grabbed onto Mirai's arm and pulled him further into the apartment.
"This is the bathroom-"
"And that's Mom's room-"
"And that's my room! Do you want to see it? I have tons of pro hero merch!"
Mirai's awkward smile changed into a more genuine one at the mention of something familiar.
"Lead the way."
~~~~~~~~~~〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜~~~~~~~~~~~
"-and this," Izuku said, "is my Hero Analysis for the Future!"
Both of them were sitting on Izuku's bedroom floor, Izuku showing off all the various hero merch he had.
Now Izuku was holding out a small notebook to Mirai, with the number 1 following the title Izuku had said.
"What do you write in it?"
"I write things about pro-heroes so that I can learn from them and become a hero myself!"
Mirai leafed through the notebook, noticing that it was very detailed for a 4-year-old. It had very little writing, but it had crude drawings with little writing commenting on various aspects of the heroes.
"These are pretty good."
"O-oh, you think?"
"Definitely! And the more you do it, the better you'll get at it."
"Are good at it?"
"I'm a bit of a professional when it comes to it actually."
"Can you help me?"
"Sure, why not? I have my own notebooks after all."
"You have your own notebooks too?!"
"Of course! Great minds think alike eh? I use my notebooks to document all my analysis of heroes, villains, fights, and natural disasters."
"What does document mean?"
"It usually means to write something down, to save it for later or so that another person can understand it. It's what you're doing with your notebooks; you're documenting your analysis so that you can go back to it sometime in the future and learn from it."
Izuku looked at his notebook with wonder.
"I am?" he asked incredulously.
Mirai smiled fondly at him
"Yes, you are. You're quite intelligent for your age"
Izuku's eyes started to water.
Mirai started panicking, thinking he had done something to upset Izuku
"Wait, don't cry, did I say something wro-"
He was cut short by Izuku hugging him and then looking up to smile at him, with watery eyes.
"I'm not sad, I'm happy. Mom sometimes also cries when she's happy."
Mirai immediately calmed down.
"Oh, right, I'm sorry, I thought you were sad. It's good to see you take after your mother in that way. She always had a hard time of bottling up emotions and keeping it hidden."
Izuku gave him a quizzical look.
"What does 'bottling up emotions' mean?"
Izuku had the sudden image in his head of Kacchan trying to fit all his anger into a bottle, and thought to himself that he'd probably need a very big bottle.
"It means that you're not showing your emotions, and keeping them all inside, so that it's like filling a bottle with water; if you do it too much without letting anything out, then it'll overflow and generally isn't good."
Kacchan definitely needs a bigger bottle.
"Why don't we work on your analysis now?"
Izuku beamed at him and started jumping around excitedly, getting his pencil to start and write down things.
They spent the next two hours discussing mainly heroes, but they got distracted often and strayed to different topics, especially when it came to All Might.
Turns out they were both huge fans of All Might.
"I'm actually trying to become his sidekick, and help him in any way I can."
Izuku looked at Mirai like he'd just said won the lottery.
"Really?! That's awesome!"
Then his expression dropped a bit in contemplation.
"...but doesn't All Might not take any sidekicks?"
A determined look crossed Mirai's face.
"Well then, I'll be the first."
~~~~~~~~~~〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day he told Kacchan all about his uncle, going on and on about how he was really good at analysis and he talked with him a ton about it.
"-and he's a huge fan of All Might, like us!"
Kacchan snorted.
"Well, he can't be as big of fans as we are."
"Actually, he's planning on being All Might's sidekick."
That surprised Kacchan.
"But All Might doesn't take any sidekicks."
"Yeah, well, Uncle Mirai's going to be the first!"
"That'd be awesome if he did become his sidekick, then he could get all the inside information about being a pro from All Might, and then he'll tell it to us."
Izuku's eyes lit up at that.
"You're right! I'll ask him if he can document those stuff for us."
"What does document mean?"
"Oh, it's a new word that Uncle Mirai taught me; it means to write down stuff to save it for later."
Izuku was proud of the fact that he was the one teaching kacchan about a new word for once.
"Well, what quirks did you guys talk about?" Asked Kacchan, who was always for talking about quirks, especially how cool his was.
"Well, we actually talked a lot about mine and yours!"
"Yeah?" Kacchan tried to sound calm, even though Izuku knew he was excited to hear what Uncle Mirai had said about him.
"Yeah! He said you have a good quirk, but that it's very important for you to learn to control it and that you should be careful not to cause explosions next to your ears, cause then you might start to not be able to hear from them."
"Oh, ok." Kacchan seemed a bit subdued at the fact that his Uncle had said that it wasn't that amazing and that it had its bad side, but then again, no one else had ever said that it wasn't amazing.
"And what did he say about yours?"
"Well, he said mine was also really cool! But in a different way to yours. He said that it can be really good when fighting people who are next to me and that it could really help me find people in a disaster. But he said the weakness is that I can't "see" things if they're too far away, and if I just focus on "seeing" with my quirk, I can be easily caught by surprise"
"Hmmmm. Well, that sounds cool! Since both our quirks are great, we can be a hero duo! You can save the people while I beat up the villains! We can be even better than All Might one day!"
Izuku's eyes shone at this.
"That'd be awesome! What would our hero names be?"
"Well, I've already thought of this; mine will be King Explosion Murder!"
"That sounds really violent though. I think mine will be Mighty Boy. Or Small Might. Or Super All Might. Or-"
"Well, you can't do those. That's just ripping off of All Might."
"I guess we both need to make up a new name then."
"Hmmmmm…"
"Hmmmmm…"
They spent the rest of the day making a list of hero names for themselves and each other.
~~~~~~~~~~〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜~~~~~~~~~~~
When Mirai came the next time, Izuku couldn't believe what he'd brought.
"Are those your notebooks?!"
"Yeah! I brought them here so that we can document your quirk and maybe practice it if you want?"
"You mean like to train my quirk?"
"Yeah. Do you want to do that now?"
"Yes please!"
"Great! Then I have a plan for what we can do to improve your quirk. So from what you told me, you know things that are going on around you within half a meter of yourself; what we want to find out is how much accuracy does it have and how well you can do things by just relying on it.
"What I want you to test out today is the accuracy, then we'll work on relying on it."
Izuku nodded excitedly.
"What does accuracy mean?"
"It means how exact the details you get are. So now I want you to focus on "seeing" small details in some things."
Just as he was saying this, Mirai pulled a phone out of his pocket and handed it to Izuku.
"Try and get a good "look" at it. What do you "see"?
Izuku took a good look at it.
"It looks like a phone?"
"Can you see anything else?"
Izuku squinted hard at the phone this time.
"It sort of looks like it's full of lines? And squares."
"That's amazing Izuku! Now, look at my arm."
Mirai moved his arm next to Izuku.
"It… looks like more lines, but these ones have some, water in them? And there are bigger ones deeper in."
"Those are veins and arteries, the thing flowing through them is blood. If you look hard, you can see them in your body too."
Izuku looked in wonder at his arms, only now noticing the subtle network of blood vessels he hadn't paid attention to before.
"I was thinking a great way for you to train would be to go to a hospital, and with supervision, try and identify what's wrong with a patient, so that you'll learn to know what defines different conditions, and then learn how to treat/deal with them."
"Does that mean I'll be able to help people, without even being a pro-hero yet?"
Mirai smiled kindly at Izuku.
"Yes, you'll be able to help lots of people, and you won't have to be a pro-hero to do it."
