A True Family Never Stops Loving You

Katie woke up and giggled as she turned to see her sister was still asleep. She got up and went over to the blonde-haired girl. "Sissy! Wake up!" She said happily.

Rachel blearily opened her eyes and yawned. "Katie? What's up, sissy?" She asked, sitting up in bed.

"Guess what today is?"

The blonde-haired girl woke up a bit more and then grinned. "Your birthday," she said.

"Yup!" Katie giggled, jumping up on her sister's bed and the two girls giggled, bouncing around on the bed a bit.

"Happy Birthday, Katie!" Rachel said happily.

"Thanks, sissy," said the little girl.

The door opened and Firestar walked in with a smile. "Good morning, girls," she said.

"Firestar!" Both girls cried out happily, jumping towards her and she caught them both, smiling as she hugged them. Ever since she had come to Earth and the girls met her, they instantly liked her.

The femme chuckled. "Well, let's get you girls ready for today," she said.

Katie was curious as to why Firestar hadn't said 'Happy Birthday' yet, but she decided to wait and see. Soon, the girls were dressed and breakfast was eaten, but to the honey-haired girl's surprise, no one said 'Happy Birthday' yet. She looked at her sister, who noticed too and as they walked to the play room after breakfast, they talked about it.

"They didn't say a word," Katie said, looking a bit down.

"Maybe they're waiting for later at the party," Rachel said helpfully.

The birthday girl perked up. "You're right, sissy," she said, hugging her. "I'm glad we're sisters."

"Me too," the blonde-haired girl said.

But throughout the day, Katie noticed how the Autobots seemed very secretive about something, whispering to themselves, but when she tried to ask them what they were whispering about, they wouldn't tell her. And the whole time, no one mentioned her birthday.

This was making the honey-haired girl very sad, but she tried to be patient as perhaps her sister was right about them waiting for when the party kicked off, but the morning turned into afternoon, the little girl grew sadder and sadder.

A little bit of joy happened in the afternoon as Thundercracker, Astrotrain, and Skywarp came and hugged her, but it seemed they were in on the secret too, the one no one was telling the little girl about. She went to her sister, who was coloring in their room.

"Rachie, they're still not telling me," she said sadly. "And it seems everyone is in on it. The Protectobots, Mommy and Daddy, Ultra Magnus, Skyfire, Wheeljack, Ironhide, Prowl, Jazz, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Red Alert, Inferno, Blaster and Cassettes, Bluestreak, the Aerialbots, Chromia, Firestar, Moonracer, T.C., Warp, Astro, and even Ratchet!"

The blonde-haired girl was a bit worried now. "What could be such a secret that they wouldn't tell you?" She asked.

"I don't know and none of them have said 'Happy Birthday' to me either!" Katie said, getting more upset.

Rachel looked at the ground for a moment before looking at her sister. "Why don't you go ask them one more time?" She suggested. "Surely they've got to see that you're not happy at feeling left out of whatever the secret is."

Nodding, Katie decided to try it. She found the Aerialbots in the rec room with the Protectobots and they were whispering among themselves, but stopped when Katie came in. "Guys, what's going on?" She asked. "What's the big secret?"

"Sorry, can't tell you," Air Raid said gently.

"You'll have to wait and see," said Silverbolt, smiling.

Though these words were said gently, the little girl felt worse, especially as she just stood there in silence and looked around to see the Autobots quickly turn away and start whispering again about the secret.

Finally, the honey hair girl snapped, unable to take it anymore. "FINE! IF YOU WON'T TELL ME, THEN I DON'T WANT TO KNOW!" She screamed as she ran out of the ARK in tears as the Autobots stood in shock at her scream and her words.

Rachel, having heard her sister's yell, came running out and she looked around before looking at them all. "What. Happened?" She asked, her young voice sounding very upset.

"Katie just ran out on us," said Wheeljack as he stood up.

The blonde-haired girl had an idea why and shook her head, going to walk away, but Skyfire stopped her.

"Rachel, what is it?" He asked.

She looked at him. "Katie only gets upset when she feels left out," she said. "You guys wouldn't tell her the secret, though she kept asking you."

"Because it's a surprise," said Thundercracker, though he felt a bit sad that Katie was upset.

Rachel shook her head again. "That's not all," she said. "How come I'm the only one that told her 'Happy Birthday'?"

The bots looked at her and she sighed again. "You know what? I don't blame Katie for running away," she continued. "Today's her day and you made her feel like she wasn't important." Tears began to form in her eyes.

"But she is," Blades said, now feeling really bad and trying to reach out to Katie, but the little girl blocked the bond.

"Not with the way you all acted," the little girl said sullenly before she walked away.

Her words hit them all hard and the Protectobots stood up. "Guys, we're going to find Katie," he said.

"We'll help," said Silverbolt as the Aerialbots stood up and formed Superion.

But finding the little girl proved to be hard.

Katie found her favorite cave and went inside, still crying as she huddled into a ball, hurt and upset that no one wished her 'Happy Birthday' and that she was left out of a huge secret. "I don't want to know anymore," she said softly. "They forgot about my birthday."

More tears fell from her eyes until she cried herself to sleep, laying down on the cave floor as she slept.

She felt something gently stroke her head and she opened her eyes, finding herself in a field of flowers before turning her head to see Alpha Trion looking at her in concern. "Katie," he said, his voice soothing. "What is wrong, my granddaughter?"

She burst into tears and glomped him, clinging to him. "Th-They forgot my birthday!" She sobbed out. "And they wouldn't tell me what they were whispering about! Like a big secret and they wouldn't tell me!" She was crying harshly now. "I don't care anymore!" She finally screamed out.

Alpha Trion just held her as she cried, but when her tears began to slow down, he lifted her chin up gently with a gentle hand. "Katie," he said, his voice still soothing. "I doubt they forgot your birthday and I doubt they were hiding a secret to hurt your feelings."

"But why did they?" She asked. "Because it really hurt to be left out."

He nodded understandingly. "Well, you should ask them," he said.

"I tried that, Grandpa," she said.

He smiled. "Well, perhaps try again, and this time, try it with your brothers." He placed a hand on her shoulder. "Open the bond, sweetspark. They're looking for you."

She shook her head. "No, they're not," she said sadly.

"They are," he said gently. "Open the bond and see."

Though she didn't want to, she obeyed her grandfather and opened the bond, feeling worry and hurt from her brothers as they searched for her.

Outside in the forest...

"Katie! Where are you?!" Hot Spot shouted as the Protectobots looked around in her favorite place near the forest. The leader of the Protectobots looked around and finally saw Katie sleeping in a small cave. "There you are," he said, picking her up and cradling her close. "I found her! She's over here!" He called out to the others, who came rushing towards him, relieved that their little sister had been found.

In Katie's dream...

Alpha Trion chuckled gently. "See?" He said gently.

Katie looked at him. "But then...why...?"

A gentle hand covered her mouth. "Shh," her grandfather said with a smile. "Go to them, my dear."

With that, he began to fade away. "Grandpa?" She asked.

"Happy Birthday, my sweet granddaughter," she heard him say right before she began waking up.

The little girl opened her eyes to see the Protectobots surrounding her and they looked relieved. "You scared us," First Aid said gently.

She looked away from them, her sadness filling the bond. "Katie, what's wrong?" Streetwise asked.

"Please talk to us," Groove said.

"Why were you so upset?" Blades asked.

She sniffled before hearing her grandfather's voice. "Talk to them, sweetspark," he said gently.

She looked at them. "You and the others forgot my birthday," she said sadly. "I...I got upset when you wouldn't tell me what the big secret was and felt that...you didn't love me anymore."

The five bots were in shock and baffled as to why the little girl felt that. "Katie, that's not true!" First Aid said, feeling a bit indignant. "We could never stop loving you."

"Never," said Hot Spot, hugging her close. "Why would you ever think that?"

Superion, who saw they had found Katie, touched down near them and looked at them. "Guys, remember what Rachel said?" He asked.

Katie looked up. "What did she say?" She asked curiously.

"She said she didn't blame you for running away after pointing out that she was the only one that said 'Happy Birthday' to you," said Streetwise.

"And that you felt sad that we wouldn't tell you the big secret," Blades said. "But Katie...we didn't do it to be mean."

"We were discussing your birthday surprise and didn't want you to catch wind of it too soon," said Groove.

"No one forgot your birthday, Katie," said Superion.

The Protectobots looked at each other and transformed into Defensor, who turned on his holoform and scooped up the little girl. "We'd never forget, Katie," he said reassuringly. "We love you too much to forget about you and about your birthday."

Feeling the warmth and love in the bond, she looked up at Defensor and saw him smile warmly. "Come on, sweetspark. Have we ever lied to you?" He asked.

"No," she said, because it was true.

"Then we're not lying now," he said.

Superion smiled. "I'll tell the others that you found her," he said. "Perhaps you can show her the big secret surprise?"

"Good idea," said Defensor as he broke down into the five bots.

Hot Spot picked her up. "Come on," he said. "Your surprise is just up ahead."

"What is it?" She asked.

He smiled. "Something we found that we know you're going to love," he said. "And best of all, it's right nearby, so you can visit it anytime you want."

She looked around before they came up to another cave and entered. "Ready?" He asked.

She nodded. "Okay, cover your eyes," he said.

She did so, trusting him. Moments later, she felt him stop. "Okay, open your eyes."

Katie did so and gasped in surprise at seeing a cave full of colorful crystals. "Wow," she breathed out. "When did you guys find this?"

"A few days ago," First Aid said with a smile. "We knew it was the perfect gift for you."

"We told everyone, but asked that they not tell you right away," Hot Spot said gently.

"That's what the whispering was all about," Groove said before looking down.

"We didn't mean to make you feel left out, Katie," said Blades.

She looked at them and smiled. "I was at fault too, Bubbies," she said. "Can you forgive me?"

"Of course we can," said Streetwise. "And by the way, Happy Birthday."

The others echoed him as they hugged the little girl and then headed back to the ARK. Rachel saw them coming and smiled at them. "I knew you guys would make it right," she said.

"Was there ever any doubt?" Silverbolt asked, coming up behind her and picking her up.

"Nope!" The blonde-haired girl said with a giggle.

The others surrounded Katie with hugs and saying Happy Birthday. Optimus hugged her tight. "Sweetie, please don't do that again," he said. "We were so worried about you."

She snuggled into his hug. "I promise, Daddy," she said.

"If you ever feel like that again, please come to one of us instead of running away," Elita said.

"I will, Mommy," Katie promised.

The party then kicked off into full swing and Rachel and Katie hugged. "They didn't forget me," she said to her sister.

"They never could," the girls heard and turned to see Alpha Trion looking at them with a smile. "Remember, a true family never stops loving you."

With that, he vanished and the girls smiled, knowing he was right.

And this family was proof of that.
