Erin and Jay had stopped dating for about a month now, although they weren't together as a couple they were still partners and occasionally still hung out on their free time. Neither of them wanted to lose the friendship they had before.

They had decided to go back to Erins place to watch to watch the Blackhawks game, neither of them had the energy to go to Molly's.

Jay followed her there, he was going to pick up food on the way but for some reason she offered to cook, which was very strange for her. But without questions he just agreed, once they got in the apartment Erin went for a shower. After a day like today she needed to shower everything off and get into something comfy.

While she was showering Jay flicked through the tv channels until he got to the Blackhawks game, once it was on he got up and grabbed a beer. As he was heading back to the couch he heard a loud bang that came from the bathroom, then he heard Erin shout in pain.

He rushed over to the door and quickly stopped himself before he barged in, he couldn't just do something like that now they were only friends again.

"Erin! You okay?" Jay yelled as he anxiously waited outside the bathroom, praying that she was speak and say she was fine.

"No!" Erin yelled, he heard in her voice she was in pain and something was wrong.

"I'm coming in." Jay said as he went to turn the door handle but it was locked. He frustratedly sighed, he knew she'd hate him for this but he was running on instinct and his gut. So he forcefully opened the door with his shoulder, breaking the lock and hinges that held the door shut.

"Well thanks, now you can buy me a new door." Erin said in agony trying not to show how much pain she was in.

Jay looked down at her as she laid at the bottom of the tub, the shower curtain was draped over her.

"What the hell happened?" He said rushing over to turn the shower off, then he kneeled down to her level.

"Ahhh," Erin shouted, she needed to stop moving.

"I'm calling an ambulance." Jay said reaching into his pocket for his phone.

"No Jay it's fine, I just need help getting up."

"Well what hurts? How did this happen?" Jay asked trying to make sense of all of this.

"My shoulder and my wrist. I don't know what I have done but it hurts so god dam much." Erin said sucking in deep breathes.

"Okay let's get you up then." Jay said reaching over to pull the shower curtain from her but she quickly swatted his hand away with her good arm.

"What are you doing?!"

Jay looked at her surprised, "Er I have seen you naked before. Also the last thing I'm worried about is that, all I care about is getting you to a hospital."

"Fine, just be careful." She said as he slowly got her up out of the tub.

As he was helping her he looked around at the contents of the bath, multiple empty shower and conditioner bottles and spilt body wash, "You know if you weren't so messy maybe you wouldn't have slipped."

"Are you serious right now?" She said annoyed.

"Sorry, my bad."

Once she was out he helped her to her bedroom, he sat her on the bed and stood back, "I think you dislocated your shoulder and broke your wrist or something."

"Yeah maybe, god it hurts." Erin said wincing in pain.

"Who thought a dislocated shoulder would bother the tough ol' Erin Lindsay." Jay said as Erin shot him daggers.

"You know what I got it from here, you can just leave if you want to keep acting like an asshole." Erin said frustrated as she tried grabbing clothes out of her dresser.

Jay could tell she was in pain, "Okay I'm sorry, do you want any help?"

"I'm fine just go wait in the living room." Erin said shrugging him off.

"Fine." Jay said walking out.

It had been a couple minutes and Erin was still struggling to put any clothes on, she got some underwear on and a bra slightly on but it wasn't done up and putting anything else on was going to be a struggle so she had to get off her high horse and ask for help.

"Jay!" She yelled out, hoping he would hear.

"What's wrong?" Jay said quickly stepping into her room his hand shielding his eyes from seeing her naked, he was trying to show some form of respect.

"Maybe I do need help." She said defeated.

"Okay, what do you need?" Jay said walking over to her dresser.

"First I need you to do up my bra, I can't quite get my arm around..." Erin said fidgeting as she tried to do her bra up.

"Do it up? Huh...Not use to doing one up, only use to taking them off." Jay said jokingly.

"Seriously Jay? Can you just be serious for five minutes?" Erin said annoyed.

"Erin you are standing here pretty much naked, I'm just trying to make sense of this. I mean come on, you sure you didn't do this on purpose just so I would see you like this and it would lead somewhere?" He said raising an eyebrow after he'd done her bra up and stood in front of her.

"Yeah I dislocated my shoulder and maybe broke my wrist on purpose, I'm in this much pain on purpose. Are you stupid! I'm not just trying to get into your pants Halstead, trust me." Erin said hitting his shoulder with her good arm.

"Ouch, okay sorry." Jay said stepping back, raising his arms in defence.

"Now can you just grab those clothes in the corner and help me put them on?" Erin gestured to the clothes that were sitting in the corner of her room.

Jay nodded and walked over to grab them, he cautiously helped her out her leggings on and then when he went to put the baggy tshirt over her head his heart ached, it was his old army shirt, she use to wear it all the time when they were together, he didn't realise she had kept it because he never went looking for it, it reminded him to much of there time like that together.

"So this is where this went?" Jay questioned as he gentle manoeuvred her arms to get the shirt on to her petite body. It swam on her but that's what he loved, he loved when he use to watch her as she strode around in nothing over then his shirts.

"Yeah sorry. I think you left it here one night and I guess I couldn't bring myself to give it back to you." Erin shrugged awkwardly as they stood millimetres from each other.

Jay cleared his throat bringing them both out of the moment, "Let's get to the hospital."

Erin nodded but stopped as they were about to head out the door, Jay turned around confused, "We going or?"

"Let's not go to med, don't want all our friends and your brother to find out how I done this. It's pretty stupid."

Jay chuckled, "You don't need to be embarrassed Er."

Erin looked down at the floor, "Please can you just not fight me on this?"

"Okay sure. Let's go."

Jay helped Erin out of his truck and walked next to her placing his hand gently on her lower back, as if he was guiding her. He knew she didn't need this type of help, she could walk but it somewhat comforted him and it seemed to comfort her aswell.

They walked into the hospitals emergency room, Erin sat down while Jay went and talked to the lady at the front desk, "Excuse me. Hi. My friend slipped in the shower and we think she's dislocated her shoulder and done something to her wrist."

The receptionist looked up and chuckled as she looked Jay up and down, "Right. Fill these in and wait. Shouldn't be too long."

Jay raised an eyebrow confused. Why was this lady laughing? Erin was seriously injured, there was no place to joke.

He walked back and sat down next to her, Erin noticed Jays confused look, "What?"

"I don't know, I explained what happened and the lady laughed at me. Then said to fill these out." He said motioning to the paperwork.

Erin rolled her eyes, "You seriously said I hurt myself in the shower?"

"Uh yeah? I said you slipped?"

"Jay she probably assumes it's sex related."

Jay clicked on and smiled, "Oh. My bad sorry. I wonder how many sex related injuries they see each day."

"Can you get your head out of the gutter and help me fill these out please? I can't use my writing hand."

Jay shook his head from the thoughts he was having and nodded, "Uh yeah sure. Name?"

Erin looked at him annoyed, really annoyed, "Are you kidding me right now."

Jay tried to prevent himself from laughing, "Oh sorry, Erin Lindsay. Describe injury, dislocated shoulder and possible broken wrist. Right, how did it happen? Slipped in shower," then he whispered, "Because of messy bathroom."

"Oh my god, give it here."

"No no, sorry I will behave. Medical history," Jay paused and looked at Erin who's head sank, she knew the next question he was going to ask, "Do you want me to put..."

"Past opioid addiction? Yes Jay you don't have to bubble wrap me, we are both adults here."

"Sorry. Okay next question," Jay then paused and looked at Erin then down at the sheet of paper, "Any chance your pregnant?"

"Seriously?"

Jay showed her the paperwork, "Very."

"No."

"100% sure?"

"100% sure that you aren't going to be a father? Yes I'm sure, for you information it's actually that time of the month." She said annoyed.

Jay awkwardly nodded, "Okay well that answers my next question."

"We done with the questions?"

"Yep that just about does it, I'm going to go give this to the nurse." Jay said awkwardly getting up.

"I'll be here waiting."

After about 6 hours in the emergency room they finally got back to Erin's place. Her shoulder had been put back in place and she had to wear a sling for a week then go to for a checkup to see how it was healing and thankfully her wrist was just sprained, so all she had on was a compression bandage and she had to ice it. The doctor wanted to give her stronger pain killers but she refused and said she could handle the pain with the non-opioid ones, with her history she wasn't taking chances.

Jay followed her in and got her a bag of peas to ice her shoulder, "Here you go."

"Thanks," she smiled, "Now Jay we need to come up with a story instead of me slipping in the shower because let's face it we work with detectives they are probably going to assume something else happened." She said looking him up and down.

He straightened his posture, "Do you wish something would have happened?"

Erin scoffed, "What wish I did hurt myself because of something sex related?" She paused and thought to herself then looked back at Jay, "Maybe, wouldn't have sounded so stupid then."

"What are we doing here Lindsay?"

"What do you mean?"

Jay stepped closer to her so he was just inches away, "You know exactly what I mean."

She rested her hand on his chest, regretting that decision because as soon as she felt the muscles through his shirt all she wanted was him. All of him. But she couldn't, they couldn't go there again.

"Jay we can't."

"I'm done pretending we are just friends, we are more then that and you know it. Voight just needs to deal with it," Jay said frustratedly, then the next words that came out of his mouth scared both himself and Erin, "I will transfer out if it means we can be together."

"Jay..."

"No, I'm sick of pretending that coming here to watch a game is just that. I want more and I can feel that you want more too."

"Jay this unit means everything to you, you need the unit and the unit needs you."

"I can go back to my other unit Er, they always said my job was available if I wanted back."

Erin raised her eyebrow, "I don't doubt that but your bullshitting yourself if you keep saying that's what you want."

"Let's just talk to Voight, make him understand that we will keep it professional at work. That's if you want to give this another shot?" Jay said, hope in his eyes.

"I do want this Jay it's just a lot, you know that this isn't as easy for me."

"What can I do then? To make it easier."

"Let me talk to Voight in my own time."

"Okay I can do that."

The next morning Erin went in before everyone else, besides Hank. He was always there earlier then everyone, super early. Firstly she had to tell him that she couldn't be out on the streets until her sling was off and secondly she needed to talk to him about Jay.

She walked up and knocked on his office, Hank quickly jumped up when he noticed Erin in a sling and her wrist bandaged up, "What the hell happened? Who did this?"

"Honest mistake, I was out jogging and I got hit by a bike messenger." She said, an outright lie but it was better then I slipped in the shower that didn't actually sound like a solo act.

"What's his name?"

"Hank your not going to arrest him, he was lovely, I got in his way it was my stupid fault." She said thinking to herself 'That it was, your own stupid fault.'

"So how long are you in a sling for? Did you break anything?" He questioned sitting back behind his desk.

"Just dislocated my shoulder so I have to wear the sling for a week, then take it easy for a couple more weeks. Wrist is sprained so that's nothing to worry about." She explained.

"Painkillers?"

"Non-opioid ones yes." She said knowing that was going to be his next question.

"Sorry I just have to ask."

"I know."

"Well you can work the desk and crime scenes until your healed up."

"Thanks," she smiled, "There's something else."

"Okay what is it?" Hank said waiting for her to explain.

"What would you say if I wanted to transfer out?" She bit her bottom lip nervously.

"I'd say what the hell are you talking about? Didn't you already try a different unit and you came back? What's actually going on?"

"As you became aware of Jay and I started seeing each other when I moved to the task force. We weren't working together anymore, so we thought we'd give it a shot and it was great," she smiled bursting with happiness just talking about it, "But you found out and I wasn't ready to open up about it. Jay wanted to come clean from the beginning but I told him it wasn't that easy for me."

"Why wasn't it easy for you?"

"Because as you said, you have seen what I do to the guys I date. I didn't think it could be different and I didn't want you kicking him out of the unit because of me. He's a good cop. A cop you need in this unit."

"I need the both of you," Hank paused then walked around to sit next to her, "What are you saying here Erin?"

"We both want to give us another shot, Jay said if being transferred out was a chance at being together then he would but I can't let that happen. Guess I just want to know if you can trust us in being a couple and still stay professional?"

"Erin I have seen all the guys you have dated, some good, some bad. But I have never seen you smile about any of them the way you just smiled over Halstead."

"So?"

"I guess that means you can have my blessing, I'm not willing to lose two of my best detectives. But..."

"I knew that was coming." She chuckled.

"No pda at work. No letting home life interfere with work and if that happens then there will be consequences. Meaning that I split you up as partners or someone goes."

"You know I'm not one to show affection anyway Hank." She smiled.

"I just want you to be happy kid."

"I am Hank. I really am, atleast I will be."

Erin quickly left the district and drove straight to Jays apartment, trying to catch him in between starting their shift. She stood out the front of his door and took a deep breath before knocking.

They were really going to do this, go all in. Have everything out in the open, no secrets anymore. Not be under Voights thumb anymore, it sounded stupid and most people wouldn't understand it. But when your father figure is also your boss you have to respect their wishes, yet sometimes things need to change.

Erin chuckled and thought to herself, 'It only took this injury to put things into perspective for you,' she knocked and waited for Jay to answer the door, a few seconds passed and he opened it, confused to see her standing there but then a smile washed over his face, "Well goodmorning."

"Morning. Can I?" She asked, hoping to be invited inside.

He stepped aside and watched her walk in, "Coffee?"

"Ah the stuff that is meant to kill you. Sure."

Jay chuckled and poured her a cup, "So what did I do to deserve you turning up on my door step?"

"I talked to Voight."

"Okay, and?" Jay waited nervously, this was either going to be good or really bad.

"I guess you can say we have his blessing. We don't have to hide this anymore...I mean if there is a 'this' anymore." She shrugged.

Jay put his cup down and walked around to were Erin was sitting, he stood in between her legs and lifted her chin up so he was looking at her, "Definitely."

"But..."

"Knew it was too good to be true." Jay said throwing his head back.

"No no," she chuckled, "He just said he doesn't want to see any form of pda..."

"Well I don't really get that from Erin Lindsay anyway..."

She shoved his shoulder, "Shutup. It's just because I didn't want to get caught out. Hey you might be lucky now, see a different side of me."

Jay smiled, "Oh I can't wait. Okay so what's the other thing? I mean there is something else right?"

"He said that if we bring personal drama into our work life and it really starts to impact our job then he will have to think about switching up partners or reassigning one of us."

Jay blew out a breath, "Then we won't let that happen will we?"

"No because as Hank said he doesn't was to lose two of his best detectives."

"Oh he said that did he? Best detective, I could get use to that." Jay chuckled.

"Don't go getting a big head on me now Halstead."

Jay leant down and kissed Erin which caught her off guard but she quickly relaxed into it, she missed his touch, his smell, everything. He was just so familiar and she didn't want to ever him again.

Later that day at work Jay could tell Voight had something on his mind to say to him but every chance they got something with the case came up. But when they were finishing up paperwork and about to head home Voight summoned Jay to his office.

Jay looked past his desk over to Erin who gave him a subtle wink, he took a deep breath and walked in, he knew that everything was okay and he definitely knew what Voight was going to say.

"Halstead sit," Jay sat down, "So you and Erin?"

"Yes sarge."

"Promise me something?"

"Anything."

"You have her back 24/7."

Jay smiled as he looked out to see his beautiful girlfriend laughing with their friends in the bullpen, this made his day so much better then he expected when he woke up this morning, "Always."

"And if you do anything to hurt her or break her heart."

"I'm out, you don't have to say it twice."

"Correct. Now seeings though your Erin's new boyfriend, guess we might have to have you around for Sunday dinner." Hank smiled, sliding a glass of whiskey over to Jay.

Jay took it but his face was blank, this was definitely going to be something he was going to have to get use to.
