The rumours and gossip flew about endlessly, and the consequences would be far more long-reaching than anyone might have suspected at the time.

In another world, perhaps, it would have passed by like any other; with nothing more remarkable or noteworthy occurring than the results of the various competitions held.

In this world, Madam Qin chose to confide in her husband about what his so-called friend had done to her.

In this world, Qin Cangye knew of Jin GuangShan's crime against his wife, and he wanted vengeance.

Unfortunately there was little he and his minor sect could do against the man who led one of the five great sects. Spreading word of the truth would only damage his wife's reputation as much as that of the Jin Sect leader.

Therefore, the only option available to Qin Cangye was that of a curse.

A great deal of time and effort was devoted to creating the perfect curse – one that would utterly destroy Jin GuangShan's reputation.

The finished curse was designed to force Jin GuangShan to expose his most shameful secret in the most public and humiliating manner possible. It was intended to ruin him.

Qin Cangye simply forgot to take into account that Jin GuangShan was not a man who was inclined to feel shame towards anything; much less his crimes. He did in fact have a great number of secrets, many of which could have destroyed him.

But the only secret he kept that he personally felt ashamed of was a very unexpected sort.

A/N: I changed the prompt just a bit; so rather than JGS being in love with LQR, it's just lust. I just don't see canon!JGS as a person who's actually capable of loving anyone other than himself in any capacity. So instead of LQR being "The one that got away" in the sense of love lost, it's more, "The one I really always wanted to fuck but never got the chance to do."

Also, I head-canon LQR as both Aro-Ace and utterly uncomfortable with the idea of sex and/or romance. In combination with the rigidity and moralizing of the Lan Sect, along his own tendency to self-righteousness, he simply believes that the way he feels is right and correct; everyone else is wrong. This comes across in the way I write him whenever sex or romance come up.

This is not a reflection of my opinion of Aro-Ace people in general; it is a reflection on how I feel LQR's character and environment would affect the way he approaches his orientation. I also HC Wen Qing as Aro-Ace, and she is one of my favourite awesome MDZS badasses. In addition, I HC Wen Ning – the adorable, precious little cinnamon roll that he is – as Ace (with a semi-platonic, puppy-love/hero-worship crush on WWX – LWJ sees and recognises this; which is why he's jealous), and JC as at least Aro, if not Aro-Ace. Not to mention that novel-JGY's description of NMJ when he's searching for weaknesses to exploit seems to indicate that he's Aro-Ace as well. (Either that, or NMJ was just really devoted to LXC and no one else.) And those are just the characters I HC as Aro/Ace in this fandom.

So no; nothing negative at all intended towards Aro-Ace people - it's just LQR. (Plus, I like making him suffer.) That said; I do intend to include some mature content in this – JGS is his own warning, honestly. (No outright non-con; not my jam!)

While not quite what the prompter asked for, the moment I read the prompt this cracky little plot bunny hopped into my brain. I just couldn't resist! Hopefully you enjoy it anyway!

Prompt:

While studying at the Cloud Recesses, Jin Guangshan becomes totally enamoured with Lan Qiren, but he doesn't pursue him due to the latter's attitude towards him. His feelings are ultimately unrequited.

But some years later, the two of them cross paths at a conference. Lan Qiren is now even more handsome than he was as a teenager, and Jin Guangshan is determined to win him over. Only, he's completely and utterly useless at doing so, and Lan Qiren won't even give him a second glance. At least not initially...
