Something is very clearly wrong with the Jin Sect Leader.

Ignoring it is not a good idea.

Naturally, that's exactly what everyone chose to do.

Warning Signs

The first sign of the curse taking hold was the way Jin Guangshan stared.

Now, Jin Guangshan staring was nothing new. Staring with a lust-filled gaze, all but drooling over the current subject of his attentions... there was nothing at all unusual about that.

He typically attempted to be at least somewhat discreet about it; at least when he was supposed to be paying attention to other things.

To be fair, he was an excellent multi-tasker.

What was different this time was precisely what – or rather who – had captured his interest.

Lan Qiren was rather awkwardly attempting to pretend that it wasn't actually happening, but was finding it rather difficult.

The other man was just being. so. blatant.

He wasn't even put up the most token pretense of doing anything other than staring at the acting Lan Sect Leader; as if he were starving and the other man happened to be a particularly appetizing side of beef.

Qiren found himself slightly unnerved by the sheer hunger in the eyes of the Jin Sect Leader. The scorching feeling of the man's gaze on him left him feeling oddly vulnerable and slightly naked.

It was not a feeling he enjoyed.

Nevertheless, for the sake of maintaining good inter-sect relations, he forced himself to ignore it.

He consoled himself that the other man had most certainly broken the rule about no alcohol in the Cloud Recesses, and was therefore far too drunk to have any idea where he was staring.

No doubt, the lecherous reprobate was lost in some entirely unrelated licentious, promiscuous fantasy; Qiren just happened to be the unfortunate soul trapped within the vicinity of his gaze as he was busy daydreaming without paying attention to the direction of his eyes.

Or so he told himself.

Everyone around him was either pitying or amused, embarrassed on his behalf, or some combination thereof.

They really should have noticed something was wrong then.

But as they say, hindsight is 20/20.
