Knuckles the Echidna sighed as he was sitting down by the Master Emerald, guarding it as usual. He was wearing a Santa hat on his head to get into the Christmas spirit, but he was all by himself on Angel Island as usual, being glued to his post as usual.
"Man, I wish I could go and celebrate Christmas with my friends down on the mainland, but with the recent Eggman attacks on Angel Island, I can't really leave my post. I have to keep an eye on the Master Emerald at all costs and prevent it from being stolen again..." Knuckles sighed as he looked at the sky.
"Hey, Knux." A voice rang in front of the crimson echidna. Knuckles looked down to see his love interest, Julie-Su standing in front of him.
Knuckles smiled when he saw Julie-Su. "Oh, hey, babe. What's going on?" He asked the pink echidna.
"Not much. Trying to take time off to think after all the recent Eggman attacks. You?" Julie-Su asked with a shrug.
"Pretty much the same as you, I guess." Knuckles shrugged. "I wish I could go celebrate Christmas with my friends down on the mainland, but because of all the recent Eggman attacks, I have to stay behind on Angel Island and keep an eye on the Master Emerald at all times to prevent it from being stolen again."
Julie-Su nodded as she sat down next to Knuckles. "I know, I heard you talking to yourself while I was heading up to the altar." She replied.
Knuckles slightly smiled and let out a slight chuckle. "It's too bad there isn't really any other echidnas around to celebrate Christmas with me right here on Angel Island. All of them seem to have their own business to tend to." The crimson echidna sighed once again.
Julie-Su nodded once again. "That's why I came to Angel Island in the first place: To keep you company during the holidays." She told her love interest with a smile.
Knuckles turned to Julie-Su and blinked a few times before smiling and hugging the pink echidna. "Thanks, Julie-Su. That's exactly what I need during the holidays. Thanks for doing this for me." He said to her.
Julie-Su returned the hug before smiling and nodding. She then pulled out a hiking backpack and opened it. "I've brought Christmas decorations and some food to properly celebrate Christmas together. Care to help me decorate the Master Emerald Altar with this stuff?" She asked the crimson echidna.
"I'd love that." Knuckles smiled as him and Julie-Su got up and began to decorate the Master Emerald Altar with the Christmas decorations Julie-Su has brought with her. Later that night, the couple was sitting down in front of the Master Emerald, eating some turkey filet and ice cake with some glasses of egg nog together.
"Cheers, Knux." Julie-Su said with a smile as she and Knuckles clinked their glasses for a toast.
"Thanks, babe. Merry Christmas." Knuckles smiled back as the couple drank their egg nog.
Once the couple had finished their food, they were lying down in front of the Master Emerald, staring at the starry night sky together. "What a beautiful Christmas Evening, wouldn't you say, Knux?" Julie-Su asked Knuckles with a smile.
Knuckles smiled and nodded. "It sure is, Julie-Su. It's too bad I didn't have any time to buy you a Christmas present. I've just been so busy with protecting the Master Emerald that I couldn't get around to that stuff." He replied.
Julie-Su placed a hand on Knuckles' shoulder. "Don't worry about it, Knux. I understand completely how busy you've been with your Guardian duties. You don't have to get me anything for Christmas this year. Your company is already a present in itself." She told the crimson echidna with a reassuring smile.
Knuckles looked at the pink echidna and smiled back. "Thanks, babe. If you're happy, then I am happy too." He replied as he embraced Julie-Su and kissed her. Julie-Su moved herself onto Knuckles' lap, and the echidna couple continued kissing in front of the Master Emerald.
Looks like Knuckles had a Merry Christmas after all.
