The streets of New Avalon city were packed with people roaming around at the center. Vendors stood at curbs with their carts and people walked by into vehicles so they could line up on the freeway's heavy traffic that would inch forward every few seconds. All in all, the normal for big cities like this one.
Amongst the people traveling by sidewalk was a well-suited man. He wore a black two piece suit that fit on his slim frame with a briefcase at his side. He was someone who could disappear into any crowd with how bland he looked. He walked with a bit of aggression in his gait and he held onto the handle of his case with tenacity. His head gave subtle shifts of his head, scanning the area in front of and behind him.
The man in black quickened his pace when he noticed someone following him. A red hood obscuring his face as he matched his trail. The man casually walked into the small crowd near the corner, turning left into a wide alleyway once they crossed the street. He should have lost him.
Seeing as no one was around, the suited man raised the briefcase and slowly cracked it open. A yellow glow radiated from its crevasse, heat spilled onto his cold face, and light brought life to his dead eyes. It was as if he were opening a container that held a star.
"Hey, nice case ya got there!" A cocky voice erupted from behind him. Turning on a dime, the man saw the familiar sight of red slowly walking towards him. He continued with his little speech as the man in black readied himself.
"You know… I actually think there's something that doesn't belong to you. Let me check it out for‒"
A swing for his head was attempted. The metal case barely scraped his nose if not for a quick backflip. On the third spring of his hands, light began emanating from him. The luster that formed from him began to separate, as if he were a cell splitting off into two. From this red radiance formed a figure of light, resembling that of an armored knight with a reptilian motif.
This strange effigy mirrored his flipping, its skin beginning to crack and splinter. And on his tenth and final spring, the figure shattered into fragments of light. The fragments crashed onto the man's body, transforming him into a being clad in red.
He wore a helmet that had the vaguest of resemblances to that of a knight. He had chainmail sleeves of a dark gray. Bracers of silver on his forearm along with boots of white. Around his waist was a belt of gold with a small blade strapped to his left hip and a long barreled pistol on his right. On his chest was a 'V' that was emblazoned in a lighter shade red than his overall color scheme. What stood out from his entire scheme was a small silver shield placed onto his left shoulder like a pauldron.
The man in the suit stared blankly at the sight of this Red Ranger. Low growls seeped from his lips and his face twitched as if something was giving miniscule pierces through his skin.
"Woo… Nearly got me there." The Ranger laughed as he brushed his silver mouth guard with his thumb. He began to jab at the air as he faced down the man before him, making taunting gestures as his enemy stood there like a statue. "Now… How we gonna do this? Ranger vs Agent or…"
He paused, his voice becoming stern and low. "You gonna drop the disguise…?"
The suit shifted at his words, flesh began to rupture and a miasma leaked from its gritted teeth. The once well suited man crumbled away into black dust that formed a thick cloud. From the cloud emerged shadows that slowly came into view. And these shadows revealed themselves to be monsters.
Before the Ranger stood a mass of ash-gray skeletons with armor molded onto their frame. In their thin digits were sabers composed of rusted steel. Their jaws hung from their skulls by weak joints, causing them to forever be agape in a blank face as they let out low moans.
Revenants, ugly creatures of the Genesis Empire. These things could disguise themselves as humans yet were easy to track by the energy they gave off.
The Red Ranger let out a chuckle as the monsters gave distorted grunts of presumed anger. He kept his sight on one revenant in particular, who moved to the back of the horde with the silver case held close to its ribcage.
The Ranger pointed to the creature in a casual manner, "Hey, like I said, I'm gonna need that thing…"
His hand reached for the small sword strapped to his belt. Once he pulled it out from its knife-like sheath. The blade expanded, forming a short sword with an angled shaped crossguard. In his hands was a V-Saber, a quick and deadly blade used to deal with scum like these creatures.
"So you boneheads gonna cough it up or do I have to make a few fractures?" The Red Ranger taunted as he bounced the blade against his silver bracer.
All he got in response were the Revenants hiking their swords, their moans became more bellowed, and sparks of red glowed. from their hollowed eyes. With a scoff, the Ranger readied his V-Saber and charged in. Just a bit of fun wouldn't hurt, he figured.
"Bring it on!" He shouted as he was already in full sprint. Ready to take down this round of Genesis' cronies.
He darted for the wall once he saw the wave of skeletons start to form around him. The Ranger planted his feet against the bricks and forced himself upward, running against the upright surface. As he gripped onto his saber with his right hand, he reached for the pistol on his belt. Unsheathing it caused the barrel to reveal two limbs of a bow that stretched out. Making the weapon resemble a crossbow.
With a strong kick, he launched himself off the highest point of the wall and began descending.
The Ranger began firing darts of azure at the Revenants in the apex of his launch. Each skeleton he fired at went down after a blast to the skull. In his descent, Red Ranger aimed his V-Saber to a group of Revenants and spun himself like a drill. The tornado of red flew into the mass and destroyed a large number of the monsters.
After landing back onto the ground, the Red Ranger had turned to meet with the staggering skeletons. Their weapons raised without hesitation despite the bone dust that he stood on. The Ranger laughed with his head tilted up.
"You freaks don't know when to quit, huh?" His balled up fist slowly moved to the shield on his right shoulder as he stared down the Revenants. The Ranger cocked his head to the side in challenge, "Well… Neither do I!"
With a swift slam against the shield, the Ranger caused it to dissipate into embers of red. It streamed down his right arm and to his fingers. Once he opened his palm, the light fragments formed the outline of a longsword. Once the Ranger grabbed the outline, the embers materialized into a silver blade with a crimson red hilt. In the center of it's crossguard was the same 'V' symbol as on his chest.
The Red Ranger raised his blade seeing the Revenants rush towards him once more. He let out a quick breath as he leveled his stance. The blade of his sword started to burn with a red flame as they drew closer.
As his energy built up, he felt his chest tighten. His heart was on the verge of bursting at how strangled it felt. His vision slowly turned crimson as he stared at the enemies before him. He held his last breath and closed his eyes. Allowing the fire in his chest to burn even greater.
With one shout, he released the energy he built up. "BLAZE CYCLONE!"
The Ranger heaved his blade forward with great strength, propelling himself forward as he held onto the handle. His feet streaked across the ground yet couldn't slow down his charge. The Red Ranger began to spin as he drew closer to the Revenants. Effectively becoming a burning gyro that sliced and seared the skeletons. He came to a stop, facing the clouds of gray dust that he made.
The Ranger let out a heavy at the result of his slaughter. He exerted a lot of energy in that little bout. His muscles were tense and his breaths heavy. A job well done, a damn tiring one.
"The case." A rugged voice came from his right brace. Reminding him what his mission was here, in an even voice. Raising it, the Red Ranger saw a gray audio wave from from the small circular screen on his right forearm. "Stop losing focus like this, you'll just use up your energy."
"Right, sorry…" The Ranger apologized in a softer tone before quickly picking up the silver case on top of the pile of ash. He dusted it off, revealing several dents and a large scratch against its surface. "Uh oh, my bad… I-I'm sorry."
"It's alright…" The voice sighed over the intercom, causing the Ranger to hang his head a bit. "The gem inside can't be destroyed. Just come back here, make sure no one sees you."
The Ranger nodded before hanging up. He let out a grainy breath as he stretched his sore muscles. His head scanned the area, noticing how the remains of the Revenants had disappeared. He let out another sigh at this, that was gonna bite him in the ass later but he really couldn't do much about it.
He shoved this aside before leaping onto the roof, jumping onto the cafe building in front of him. The ranger gave one last look to the alleyway as he gripped onto the case. He rushed off, hopping from rooftop to rooftop en route to home.
