Chapter 6

Meeting The Godfather

The first day of tutoring lessons was Mr. Lupin's day. Harry and Rosemary rose early that Thursday, excited to start their lessons, as their wands had arrived the day before. Furthermore, Rosemary was determined to investigate the man who was her godfather, and learn why he had never taken the twins in. When the time came for the meeting, the twins were ready to begin their tutoring and their inquisition into the man. The knock on the door heralded his arrival and Rosemary escorted him in at wandpoint.

"Mr. Lupin, I presume?" Rosemary asked, as she took a seat beside Harry on the bed, and gestured for the man to sit on the chair.

"Yes, you must be Rosemary and Harry. You can call me Remus." he said, hesitantly. Harry nodded. Rosemary pursed her lips together.

"Where have you been for the last 10 years?" Rosemary asked quietly, her voice betraying her nerves as it quivered. Remus frowned.

"What do you mean?" he asked.

"You're my godfather! Where have you been these last 10 years? Why weren't you there for us when we needed you! Why were we left to the Dursleys? Didn't you want us?"Rosemary, who had started out quite firmly, had quickly devolved into what Harry knew was just moments away from tears. Her voice quivered, and her breathing was harsh, disguising a quiet sob as a wet cough. Remus looked guilty as his face faded into a frown, and his eyes looked down to the ground.

"Of course I wanted you, both of you. But there are laws against me. As a werewolf, I cannot actually take you in. Dumbledore promised to make sure you were safe and cared for. But he told me it would be dangerous to approach you as it might lead escaped Death Eaters straight to your door." Remus said quietly.

"Dumbledore?!" Rosemary snapped, standing and striding to the desk in the corner of the room, grabbing their health and inheritance folders, which would show the damage done and their magical blocks that had been removed. She threw the folders into Remus's lap. "Dumbledore! Dumbledore said?! Safe?! Cared for?! That is a crock of bull if i've ever heard any! Dumbledore left us on the doorstep of magic hating people who abused us!Dumbledore blocked over 90% of our magical core! We could have died! We could have become squibs! What's worse, is that we could very easily have become Obscurus! Because of Dumbledore!"

Remus opened the folders and looked at them, his face whitening as he listened to
Rosemary's rant. Tears filled his eyes as he read over their files and came face to face with the reality that Rosemary was shoving in his face. His pups had been abused, magically blocked, and abandoned. His pups could have died. His hands began to shake and his eyes turned amber, as his face became red. Rage filled his amber eyes clearly, and Rosemary and Harry could see it in his face.

"How dare he! He promised! He lied to me!" Remus snarled, before he turned to face them. "My pups. I am so sorry. If I had known. If I had thought..."

"Enough." Rosemary said gently. "You didn't know. But you can make up for that now. We need you, Remus. You're the only adult we have, really. Can we trust you? Can we trust you not to believe Dumbledore, but to listen to us?"

Remus pulled the twins into a group hug. "You can trust me. You're my pups, my family, my pack. It will always be you before anyone else, from now on."

Rosemary sighed. If it wasn't for the godparent-godchild bond humming with anger, guilt, remorse, and sincerity she wouldn't trust him. But the bond practically screamed at her that he was being honest. It sang to her that he could be trusted, and right now, they needed an adult that they could trust more than anything else.

"I believe you." Rosemary said quietly. Harry hummed.

"If Rosy believes you, then so do I. But you only get this one chance. Mess it up, and we will never trust you again." Harry said firmly. Remus nodded. "Great, now, lets get to learning, before Rosy bursts from curiosity."

And that started their tutoring. They spent the next two weeks studying the year one books from cover to cover, with the help of their tutors. They also got a crash course in how wizards and witches of their status were supposed to behave, and how to control their metamophmagy abilities.

Rosemary also spent time writing to the Deputy Headmistress McGonagall, insisting that they be allowed to take the first year's end of year exams the first weekend at Hogwarts. Harry decided that he would wait until Christmas holidays to take his end of year exams, giving him the time to decide if Hogwarts could keep up with him. Rosemary, however continued to badger Professor McGonagall until the woman gave in. Rosemary was quite certain that she could keep up with her usual study habits, and refused to be blocked from excelling as she had always done. Therefore, by the time that they left for King's Cross on the morning of September 1st, Rosemary had finished the year one books and was a quarter of the way through the year two books. She was planning to take the year two final exams and the year three midterm exams before Christmas break, when Harry was planning to test out of year one. Rosemary intended to test out of year three at the end of their first year, and test out of year four at the start of their second year, enabling her to spend her entire second year focusing on her O.W.L. Exams. Rosemary's plan included taking her N.E.W.T. Exams at the end of her third year and spending the next few years working on getting masteries. She had no intention of wasting her education by slowing it down to the standard pace of her year group. Her plan was to fly through her Hogwarts education, then become emancipated and take over guardianship of her brother, and then work her way through masteries to be a fully capable witch by the time she was 15 or 16, so that she and her brother would no longer be required to live with the Dursley family.

The Deputy Headmistress McGonagall had spent much time arguing with Rosemary, but eventually decided to let the end of year tests prove to the young witch that what she was attempting was simply not possible. Therefore Professor McGonagall decided to let Rosemary take the tests on her own schedule. Poor McGonagall had no idea what she was in store for.
