Chapter 17
Callie was very happy to have the house bought in Massachusetts. She and Frank had to go back on May 29th for the furniture delivery. She was currently at home cleaning. It was a beautiful April morning. She was alone in the house. Frank and Joe went to pick up the crib. Laura was working. So were Fenton and Sam. They were down in the office. It was the perfect opportunity to get some things done. She heard glass break and immediately felt concerned. She hurried towards the basement steps but ran right into a man she didn't know. He grabbed her. She started to scream but he put a cloth over her mouth. Chloroform! Oh shit! She immediately started to lose consciousness. The last thing she did was knock a vase onto the floor, before she passed out.
Fenton Hardy heard what sounded like glass breaking upstairs. He knew Callie was upstairs cleaning. Sam heard it too. They both got up from their paperwork and headed up the steps. They heard a second crash and ran up the rest of the way. Someone was carrying Callie out the door!
A second man threw down something. Sam recognized it. "Fenton grenade!"
They both ran down the stairs of the basement as the blast blew up his hallway. Fenton was furious, but the house could wait. He hurried to the basement door and discovered that it was barricaded from outside. 'How did they not hear the damn drill?' He had to get out of the house and to Callie. He saw the large beam down blocking their exit. "Shit Sam!"
Sam asked grimly. "What happened to the agents watching the house?"
Frank and Joe had just put the crib in the van when Frank's phone beeped a security alert. He paled. "Joe the front and back doors have been breached in the house."
They got in the car and toar out of the target parking lot. Joe was dialing Callie's number and put it on speaker. She didn't answer. 'Hi it's Callie, leave a message and I'll call you back.' He dialed his father. "Joe! Callie's been taken!"
Frank erupted. "What happened?"
"I can't say how they got in because Sam and I are stuck in the basement. They had a grenade and threw it in the hallway. The basement backdoor is barricaded. The hallway entrance is blocked with debris. Sam's calling the police now. Shit, he just said that the agents watching the house are dead. I'm tracking Callie via her locket she is... I don't believe it, she's at the airport."
"Bayport Airport?" Frank asked.
"Yes!"
Joe said. "We can find out who flew out, if we can't get there."
Fenton said. "Be careful boy's I'll be right behind you. Frank you have the tracking app on your shielded phone right?"
"I do." He made a sharp turn onto Airport Rd and gunned it.
Callie woke up on a private plane. She was tied up. She felt a sharp slap on her face.
"Wake up!"
Callie's eyes filled with tears. "Dad?"
"Yes, remember me your father?"
Callie didn't dare touch her locket yet. Better to wait until we get to where we are going first. "What do you want?"
"Your baby and you're going to sign your trust over to me."
Callie sat up, she felt queasy but managed a defiant stare. "It doesn't work like that. Even if it did. I'm not giving you a penny, and you can't have my baby."
That earned her another slap, a harder one. She moaned. "You're lucky that I got that pardon girl. Washington DC is where we are going. It's more secure than Fort Knox. Your precious boyfriend, his brother, and father won't be able to find you there. Not where I plan on keeping you anyway."
"What are you going to do with me?"
"First, you're going to be punished for tarnishing my reputation. Don't worry, your baby will be fine. How far along are you anyway?"
Callie hissed. "None of your fucking business."
He put his hands on her throat again. This time she only saw dots before he released. "Answer me NOW."
"Late July is my due date. Daddy please don't hurt us."
"You know who's hurt? I'm hurt. I spent years pretending to love your mother, gave her you didn't I. What thanks do I get? A measly two million a year. What the fuck!" He slapped her again. "But you get billions? You sniveling selfish brat!"
Callie refused to let him manipulate her that way. She wasn't going to give into his bullying. "I don't want to go with you and Linda to Washington dad. I'm not a six year old girl you can hurt anymore. I'm a woman and I have a husband not a boyfriend."
He wheeled around. "WHAT!" Even Linda Reed gasped from her seat.
"Andy didn't tell you." Callie jeered. "He'd figure it would piss you off too much. Well, yeah I got married to the love of my life. Believe me he will move heaven and earth to look for me. That is a promise."
"No, I promise that you WILL sign over that trust. That you will give me custody of your bastard baby, and you will finally be out of my hair forever."
"You had mom killed, dad! Do you think I'm going to let you do the things you've done to me to my child? I won't! So you might as well kill us both now."
He back handed her sending her crashing to the floor. "So what if I did! You can't prove it and don't tempt me."
The flight was relatively short. They landed at Lincoln Regional Airport. The pilot stepped out of the cockpit. "I hope that was a smooth flight for you."
Callie read her father's expression clear enough. 'Don't tip the pilot.' She smiled. "Smooth as silk. Thank you captain."
Her father had one wrist and Linda had the other. Together they dragged her to the limo.
Callie wanted Frank! She wanted home! She didn't want to go anywhere with them. But they were pulling her along and it felt like he was going to break her wrist. She cried out. "Daddy you're hurting me!"
"You deserve a lot worse for defying me. For turning our son against us!"
The words came out before she could stop them. "You did that yourselves."
He shoved her in the limo and got in behind her. "Go Jim."
The ride was not a long one. The traffic was surprisingly light. Callie recognized the old town house. It was technically owned by her but now was not the time to correct her father. He grabbed her by the wrists and helped her from the limo. He turned to the driver. "Jim, she isn't here. Understand."
"Sure. You want to keep the pregnancy quiet right?"
"That's right."
He walked Callie up the path and shoved her in the house. Callie for the briefest second considered running but Linda was blocking the doorway leading to the kitchen and only exit. Her father grabbed her by her hair and pulled her to the basement. Callie was crying the whole way down. They entered the wine cellar. Then her father opened a false wall behind some wine shelves. Callie gaped as she saw the room. There was one light hanging from the center of the room. There was a yoga mat on the floor, with a pillow, sheet, and thick blanket. A chem toilet was placed in the corner. There was an old wash basin with a mirror attached to it, with a glass, a cake of soap, and rubbing alcohol on the bottom shelf and two towels hanging on the side. A large bucket of cold water sat beside it. There was also a shelf with some gray sweat suits, gray shorts, white tee shirts, a couple bras and two pairs of underwear, and a small compact mirror. She was so busy looking that she didn't hear her father come behind her with a chain. It was attached to a large leather collar. He put a padlock on the collar locking it around her neck. Then her father shackles her wrists.
Callie was sobbing hard now. "Daddy the chains aren't."
He glared at her and she cringed away. He attached the wrist shackles so that her arms were above her head. He ripped off her top leaving her in her bra. She was facing away from him. He breathed down her neck. "Time for your punishment. I used to dream about doing this to your mother."
Callie felt a sharp stinging on her upper back. She screamed.
"Ten...nine...eight…"
With each strike Callie shrieked in pain. Her father was a monster!
"Two...one!"
He releases her wrists and Callie collapsed sobbing on the floor.
"Now. I'll leave you to ponder giving me the money. This will be a weekly ritual until you either give me the money or you give birth. You'll get a bland diet twice a day along with your vitamins." He shut the false wall.
Chained to the wall like an animal! Callie went to the yoga mat laid down and sobbed. Her heart completely shattered. She pulled at her locket and engaged the panic button at last. Then she opened the locket and looked at Frank's smiling face. She prayed that they would find her.
Callie didn't move until she heard the wall open she quickly covered herself. She looked up and saw Linda.
"Here is your meal. You need to treat those." She went to retrieve the soap. Then she smiled wickedly. "You won't need this till tomorrow morning."
Callie pulled the covers tighter around her. Her hatred of this woman growing by the second.
Linda growled. "Answer me when I talk to you!"
Callie swallowed. "I'll take care of it."
Linda left. Callie when she left stuck up her middle finger. She had no more respect for this woman. She went to the old basin and reached for the alcohol. She needed to see. So she grabbed the hand held compact and looked at the lashes on her back. Her eyes fell onto the bloody whip. Tears filled her eyes but she refused to give into them. She winced thinking this was going to hurt. She opened the alcohol and poured some on the small towel and dabbed the wounds. The pain was blinding! Her legs buckled and she crashed to the floor in a dead faint. When she woke up a red light was flashing, startling her. This room must have been invented during prohibition! Someone was here. 'Frank!'
