Hey guys, as we go further along, you can see that there is a lot more Mortal Kombat lore. I must say that from here on out there will be MKX and maybe MK11 SPOILERS (depending if there are elements from MK11 I would like to add). I have read the MKX comic and some parts are cool and all, but I think I will be manipulating my story a bit.
I know the first two chapters are overwhelming with all these long ass words and names (especially the section will the character names), but that's just how it is. If you don't like it you can leave. As we go on, there are less and less names from my OCs. But always keep in mind the names of the main character, village they live in, MK gods and their equivalent, the strongest Tliltetepah, and the houses the main character belongs to.
I found it helpful when learning Nahuatl to say the names over and over again but read the word(s) slowly so you can get it right. Also, the names are pronounced using the sounds of the alphabet in Spanish (and for other languages I assume). For example, "Quema" is pronounced "keh-ma" for English speakers, but countries with Nahua populations know that it can be broken like this: Que-ma. And they would know how to pronounce it.
Teoitotia's POV, Age 31:
(Two Years After Outworld's Invasion)
Earthrealm was slowly being rebuilt after the damage Outworld has done. Technically, the most of the damage occurred in the city that battle took place in. When I went back home, I was expecting a scolding from my family after I changed into my true form, but it never came. The Spirits and I have been trying to figure out what Quan Chi was up to and with progress. My people were used to the activities of the malevolent spirits, but they've been less troublesome than usual including Quan Chi...and that worries us warriors. The outside world's eyes have been pried open after the invasion and their warriors are now being taught different techniques, but they are still weak. They have been trained to fight against humans alone in the past, but now, I immediately noticed that their training still had major flaws. They rely too much on their weapons and especially their teammates, but it was mostly the common soldiers.
I landed on the roof of a White Lotus temple by the Jinsei Chamber as a beetle. The sun had already reached its peak hours before I arrived. The monks still don't know about me and I need to keep it that way. I fly down and enter the chamber only to find the Spirit of fire, Kojin, guarding it. I bow in greeting.
"Great Lord Huehueteotzin, do you happen to know when Tlalotzin and Ehecatzin would be back?"
"I doubt it would be long now. They have already been gone for quite a while."
I wanted to tell him what was on my mind, but I knew that it would be better for the Raiden or Fujin to know. I was snapped out of my thoughts when Raiden teleported himself and Fujin near the entrance of the chamber. Timing like this makes me want to laugh but also makes me wonder if Tloque Nahuaque (Nahuas used this saying to refer to Ometeotl) was behind this. They enter and nod in greeting to Kojin and I while he does the same and I bow slightly. Even after two years of interacting with the Great Lords, I cannot seem to ease back on my formal behavior. I was more at ease being in their presence, but I was not as comfortable as they wish me to be. I've been interacting more with Fujin and Sarutahiko because they are the basis of our legends (as was with some Nahuas) and I felt more comfortable speaking to them compared to the other Spirits. However, I have spent most of my time in the outside world going on missions and taking care of my people compared to the few minutes I spend talking to the Great Lords every few days.
"The Neatherrealm seems more active than it has ever since Outworld's invasion and that may be concerning more than relieving," Raiden noted.
"You may go back to guarding the amulet Kojin," Fujin ordered. Kojin nodded and left. When he did, I spoke, "I have felt a little bit of restlessness in the air lately."
"What do you mean?" asked Raiden knowing that when I spoke things like these, they were to be listened to.
"I feel like...chaos is growing. The balance is tipping." Maybe I should check what is going outside this planet. I closed my eyes and forced my spirit out to go into the darkness beyond this planet and felt for other spirits within the solar system. Usually, having your spirit this far outside your body would hurt, but since I was an unusual case, it didn't apply to me, but it made me feel slightly uncomfortable. I was searching while the two Spirits were talking. Nothing seems to be out there within the solar system. Just as I finished my thoughts, I felt a familiar, yet different, presence. No. I lost focus and my spirit snapped back into my body, and I let out a quiet grunt in surprise and a bit pain. Raiden and Fujin turned to look at me quizzically.
I looked at both of them and with urgency, I said, "No-good spirits are on their way and from what the power that I sensed, it could be one of the lower-ranked generals. I have to go back and gather my warriors. Now. We can defeat them."
"Then you must go," said Raiden.
"I can instantly take you there," offered Fujin.
"I greatly appreciate it," I said in gratitude taking his offer.
He extended his arms and winds swirled around us at fast speeds until I saw nothing but white around us. When the winds calmed down, I turned by head and saw that we were at our border with no one nearby. It was still early in the morning. I turn to him and bow in gratitude.
"Thank you again, Ehecatzin."
"May you be victorious," he responded and left.
I went through the protection barrier and sensed a few warriors on patrol nearby. I jogged in their direction and ran into a trio of them. As they saw me, bowed and said in unison, "Teoitotiatzin. Welcome home."
I nodded and with urgency said, "6 Eagle, you are part of the spirit warriors. I need you to summon the rest of the spirit warriors and be ready to fight outside the planet's atmosphere."
"Right away." He bowed and took off running as fast as he could.
I turned to the other two and ordered them to continue their patrol. I sent out a message to the officers first so they had time to prepare and meet with the speaker. Pardon me, officers, but a grave danger is on its way to this planet. I summon you to the House of Laws. Then I ran to find my uncle. We have different formations depending on what style of fighting we needed to do. We had the earth warriors, who were experts at fighting physically. Spirit warriors were experts at manipulating their spirits. Stone warriors were experts at fighting physically and with their spirits at the same time. Usually stone warriors were also a part of the earth and spirit warriors, but not all. I finally reached the village and headed in the direction of the House of Laws. I approached my uncle's attendant.
"Great Attendant, I bring a warning that requires the war council's attention."
He bowed and said, "I shall inform him immediately."
He excused himself and left. After a few minutes the officers arrived. They bowed saying, "Teoitotiatzin." I bowed my head and returned their greeting. As we walked to the meeting room, we had out conversation:
"Do you have a plan for this danger?" Coyotlantli asked.
"I have a plan somewhat completely formulated."
"How much time do we have?" asked the Supreme Officer.
"From what I could tell, about two hours at minimum."
The officers grew concerned.
"With the little time we have and the time it takes to consult with the tlatoani and gather the spirit warriors, we should gather the warriors right now."
"I already sent 6 Eagle to gather as many as he could. I assume that after we finish this meeting, they should all be in on the danger and most should be prepared."
The officers nodded with less tension in their body language.
"What rank is it?" Coyotlantli asked, now knowing that no-good spirits were approaching.
"It definitely wasn't one of the top two generals so it's a lower-ranked one."
"That could still be a problem," mentioned the Supreme Junior Officer.
I would have responded to his question but thought it would be best said in front of my uncle. After a few minutes the attendant was within our sights and told us that my uncle would be out in a few seconds. The officers and I went to stand near our mats all facing the stone throne, but quite far from it.
The attendant faced us, bowed and said, "General and Officers, the tlatoani."
We looked down and bowed as my uncle came out, grabbed his spear, and greeted us, "Commanders. Please sit."
We sat and he continued, "I see that it is an urgent matter. Is it a powerful spirit?"
I stood and went closer to the throne, being aligned with it. I bowed, looked down, and then started to inform the him and the council completely:
"A few minutes ago, I sensed imbalance in the cosmos and decided to feel about our solar system. I sensed a no-good spirit who I would say is within the lower two position of generals. When I sensed it, it was just entering the solar system and I would say that it would be at the border of the atmosphere within two hours at their current speed."
The tlatoani spoke, "What strategy do you have in mind General?"
"The Supreme and Supreme Junior Officers should stay here within our borders should the Junior Officer and I fail. I will lead the spirit warriors to deal with them. It would be best to let the Junior Officer and I to deal with the general no-good spirit ourselves."
He took it into consideration as I went back to sit down. "Then that is how it shall be. Teoitotia and Coyotlantli, the both of you will take three quarters of the spirit warriors and deal with the incoming threat. You are both dismissed. The other two of you will stay so we can discuss our strategy should they fail."
He talked to me directly. Come back whole. Coyotlantli and I stood with our gaze down, and bowed to my uncle. We then walked backwards until we were a few feet from the entrance, then turned around and went down the stairs with the objective to meet with the spirit warriors directly. I noticed that about an hour has passed. We walked to the House of Flying Obsidian and earth warriors guarding the place. They greeted us and we nodded in return. When we entered the House of Flying Obsidian, we found some spirit warriors meditating and the others were sparring using their spirits alone. When we were close enough, we stopped and the warriors stood and focused on us. Coyotlantli spoke first, "The fourth division is to not fight. Please go back to what you were doing before, but be prepared to fight should we fail." The group bowed and exited the building. As soon as they left I closed off the entrance with the piece of earth I summoned up and started to inform the warriors in front of me. "Please sit." As soon as they did, I started again, "A group of no-good spirits are on their way lead by a lower-ranking general. All of you will focus on killing all besides the leader. I will deal with it, alone."
You told the tlatoani that you and I will deal with it together. It was Coyotlantli. I responded: Had I said that I would do it alone, he would have told me that I should have someone else take it down with me. Should it be far stronger than you, then we both know that it will take you down so it could focus on me as the descendant of Tliltetlapianitzin. He didn't argue with me because I was right. I looked at him directly and he nodded in defeat and understanding.
"Knowing their chaotic nature, fight them assuming that there would be no help at any point of the fight." I paused enough time to let them absorb that knowledge and create their own strategies. Then, I continued, "Have your body in a comfortable position and I will meet with you in spirit form." They all closed their eyes and lowered their heads in concentration. I still stood by the entrance and closed my eyes as well as lowered my head. Ancestors, please aid us in victory. My spirit went outside my body and immediately ordered my fellow spirits to follow me. Our spirits exited the building, then the barrier. I sensed for our opponents and found them just passing by Mars' orbital path. I sped up our pace and they caught up quickly. Spread out and attack when they are within range. They did so. Coyotlantli spoke to me: May you be victorious. He spoke to all: For Tliltetepetl! The rest repeated his chant: For Tliltetepetl! I repeated the chant too and I said within my own mind: For my father. By the time we could turn around and see the whole earth, I saw a massive rust-colored spirit. They stopped and so did we. I said to them in a menacing voice: Turn back and go to your master, or be prepared to fail him. The rust-colored spirit came a little closer and said: Enough words. Let's fight. My spirit warriors changed their spirits into the form of multiple animals we honor. I did not. After a few seconds, my soldiers were ready to pounce, so I gave a cry that sounded like a jaguar roar and charged directly at the opposing leader. It's army did the same. My warriors went their separate ways and I felt a minor no-good spirit being ripped apart. On my way to the spirit, many other tried to slow me down, but I was too skilled, too trained, and easily eliminated them. A few miles away from the general, I stopped and it did the same.
You must be the descendant of Tliltetlapiani, I have been eager to face off against you, it growled eagerly.
You waste your time and life force. Retreat. Your army is almost already destroyed, I said indifferently. Why are you here? If you knew about my coming, why didn't you just flee? You are no match for me and you know it.
Our great leader made a deal with Lord Shinnok; as he attacks Earthrealm and kills its entire population, we can deal with your people and eliminate all the Tliltetepahs.
Shinnok was freed? I said with a growl. Then I thought: Then the Spirits must deal with him and his minions alone until I can return. I asked it: Why did Shinnok strike a deal with your kind? Was he afraid to deal with us?
It chuckled in a way that makes any normal person's hair stand on end. He was. How funny is it that those so-called "Elder Gods" require help to take a realm? Even more pathetic, he requires his amulet to deal with Earthrealm. That is not true power. Let me show you what is.
It charged at me with incredible speed, but I was easily able to match it. Your people are still not strong enough to face a higher ranked spirit of my kind, but your line is a surprise. How is it that you are all a match against the strongest of us but the others cannot? Do you not share your secrets? That is just plain selfish. It chuckled.
We charged at each other and I let out a jaguar's growl and roar. We danced a lethal dance like two macuahuimeh (ma-koo-ah-oo-ee-meh) clashing. Because we are both fighting as spirits, our fight looked like food coloring being chaotically swirled in water, but never mixing with it. As we fought, I felt that its army was almost completely abolished. Some of my warriors stayed still and watched me fight. Others went to help fellow warriors in trouble. I had enough and growled as my spirit expanded so it looked like rolled out, uneven, and curved dough. Then I shot forward pikes that pierced my enemy. It growled in rage and tried to do the same technique on me while moving away from my spikes. I took advantage of its extreme concentration and surrounded myself around it. It growled and condensed itself to fire attacks all over itself. Just before its attack reached me, I dispersed into multiple parts and went inside it. It panicked and dispersed itself too. Before parts of it escaped, I tracked down all of the parts and ripped some pieces apart until it could no longer merge into its original form. The parts that still existed of it screeched in pain and anger. Let me show you why WE ARE GENERALS. Then it became larger and its power increased to its original. That is what makes them strong, with only a small part of themselves, they can regenerate to their prime selves. Backup tactic, I thought. I let out low growl and shifted my spirit into the shape of my human form with my knees bent and my arms out to my sides. I brought my hands together so my fingers touched each other with their counterparts on the opposite hand. It created a type of sphere-like shape. My spirit turned gold as I summoned the power of my line. I let out a roar that sounded human and jaguar, then brought my arms back out until I could not bend them any further. My spirit turned back to its normal light green color. The no-good spirit screeched and yelled out in pain as it was being forcefully ripped apart by parts of my spirit that escaped from me and pulled the general apart. I returned to my normal stance when I heard silence...
AYAYAYA! WA! WA! I heard all kinds of victorious cries as my soldiers celebrated. Coyotlantli came up to me and partially enveloped his spirit around me. You did it! You truly are from the House of Black Stone! I went back to my spirit's first form and hugged him too. Then we let go of each other and I turned to my spirit warriors. Let's go home, I ordered. We went back into our bodies and I turned to remove the piece of earth covering the entrance. I turned back to them and said, "You all did excellent work. Go rest your spirits. Go back to your regular activities tomorrow." They bowed and said in unison, "Yes, General!" Coyotlantli and I walked out of the House of Flying Obsidian and stayed by the doorway. My warriors walked out with smiles on their faces in victory and happiness that no one was killed. They lowered their heads when they passed by us and we smiled and nodded out heads. Once they were all out, Coyotlantli and I turned to each other to have a conversation. Then I remembered, Oh crap! Shinnok! At least an hour and a half must passed by!
"Coyotlantli, I really must go! Please give my apologies to the speaker." I bowed my head in respect.
He bowed and understood, "May luck be with you. Although, I don't sense a major presence anymore."
"But how much damage did he cause?"
"I see," he put his hand on my back, pushed me towards the northwest, and said, "Go!"
I removed my arms from inside my cloak and stomped my foot like I was ready to charge someone. Then the earth engulfed me as I travel to the White Lotus headquarters. When I was just about to run out of air, I turned into my true form, and left the earth pod containing me as I continued traveling underground.
... ... ... ... ...
I went up to the surface and shifted back to my human form. It was just about midnight when I arrived. I made sure no monks were around and it seemed that the people went off to rest. As I flew to the chamber as a eagle, I noticed that there was rubble everywhere. What happened? It seemed like it happened fast. I looked up and went running into the Jinsei Chamber. I stopped and noticed the Spirits tiding up the place. From the looks of it, they haven't been doing it for long. I got down on one knee while looking down.
"I am deeply ashamed for arriving late, Great Lords."
Fujin came up to me. "Rise Teoitotia. We won...with casualties of course. But Shinnok has been stopped. I assume you dealt with the others?"
I stood with my eyes cast downward. "Yes. He was eliminated. Who fought Shinnok? How was he contained?"
Raiden turned my way and responded, "Johnny Cage did, and it is Shinnok's own amulet that holds him."
"I cannot say I am surprised," I say with a small smile on my face.
The Spirits turn to stare at me, but Raiden asked first, "You know about the power he possesses?"
I turned to face him and clarified, "I knew that he held major power inside him, but I do not know its origin. That power is meant to be used to fight against those with major power, like the teotzin and above."
Fujin asks, "Are you sure of this? How to you know?"
"After the Outworld invasion, when I went to visit my mother, I told her of what occurred. She told me that not all of Earthrealm's unique warriors died. I asked her what she meant and she said that the one called 'John Carlton' held power that was only activated when in the presence of Spirits or Elder Gods. I asked her how she knew all that and she told me that some of our ancestors were watching the outside world and were paying attention to those events. They noticed his spirit got restless in the presence of Tlalotzin, even though he himself never felt anything different. It's power increased enough to let him go against all of you and even Elder Gods."
Sarutahiko leaned in with interest and spoke, "Are you saying that he is strong enough to defeat us and yourself?"
I hurried to reassure him, "Oh no. You misunderstood Tezkatlipokatzin. I only said he was strong enough. But he is not skilled, or perhaps even smart enough. Also, you all have your elements...and your true forms. As for your later concern, I assume you know the answer to that."
Sarutahiko seemed satisfied with that answer and turned to his fellow Spirits. "There may not be an amulet to protect anymore, but there are still things that need protecting. I am heading back."
I assumed that Kojin should go with him so I turned to him and offered, "Huehueteotzin, I can take your place in rebuilding the chamber."
He answered, "I can do it Teoitotia. There is no need."
I went on, "I insist Great Lord."
There was a short silence. "Very well. Raiden. Fujin. Teoitotia." He nodded to both of them and I, and left.
It was only Raiden, Fujin, and I. I moved my body in the corresponding movements to clean up the rest of the mess. Fujin thanked me, "Thank you Teoitotia."
I could sense Raiden's suspiciousness. "Something concerns you."
"Those Revenants...they can perhaps be saved. Perhaps not from death, but their minds can be cleansed."
I gained both of their attention and Raiden asked, "How?"
"Specifically? I am not sure, but I think a part of their spirits yearn and fight to be free from Shinnok's magic, specifically Quan Chi's magic. So, I believe that you have to go straight to the source."
Raiden spoke in a very hopeful voice, "That could be the solution. Thank you."
I bowed in return. "I must leave then. I can come back in two days. I need to know that the troublesome no-good spirits will not be emerging anytime soon. Until then, Great Lords."
I bowed to both of them and started to walk backwards, then Fujin spoke to me directly, in a low voice, "Thank you."
"Of course, Ehecatzin," I responded in a low tone.
"I appreciate it." It sounded like he was speaking to me as an equal. I looked up to make eye contact with him for a second. Oh if he assumes that it was a sign of disrespect?! I hope he won't say anything. I bowed again while gazing at my feet. I took a few steps backwards, turned around, and walked to see the night sky. I let out a long sigh. I collected myself, shifted into a white eagle, and flew towards the ocean.
... ... ... ... ...
Two Days Later:
After making sure that the malevolent spirits would not attack us in masses again, I headed back to see what Raiden needed my help with. It was early in the morning in China, so the monks were doing their daily routine. I sensed for anybody's presence near the Jinsei Chamber and found only Fujin's signature. Where could Raiden have gone to? After opening the chamber's doors with my spirit, I walked in to find Fujin in the Jinsei. It feels like I walked into an intimate moment. I felt guilty. Looking at beings of authority directly while they were vulnerable or injured was considered rude. With my people, if the being had their mate or family member (related by blood) around, there was a risk of being attacked depending what your intentions were. If you meant no harm, then they would make sure your gaze was on them and only them. He opened his eyes and I got down onto my right knee looking to down on my feet in reflex. He flew out of the Jinsei and before he spoke I did, "Great Lord Ehecatzin, I apologize. I did not mean to interrupt anything."
"It's alright Teoitotiatzin. You did not offend me," he said understandingly. "Please, stand up and tell me what is on your mind."
I stood up with my gaze still on my feet. "I was hoping to meet Tlalotzin to speak about the Revenants."
He let out a deep sigh and said, "Well, he already left to find information and he decided that it was something he should do alone...He always does that."
Raiden has more human-like behaviors than I thought. In our legends, Tlaloc was the one who always minded his own business and did his job, which was to bring storms for the crops. He never interfered with anything unless it threatened the existence or well-being of our world. I looked at Fujin's face and he seemed bored.
"Do you need to rest, Ehecatzin?"
He looked back to me. "Not literally, but I just have to guard the Jinsei until Raiden returns."
"Is there something you would rather be doing?"
He smiled at me saying, "Believe it or not, I've been interacting with human culture for years now and I have to say; I cannot believe we never did it for the past few centuries. It really helps me understand peoples' way of thinking."
"You are saying that you like to interact more with the world directly?"
"Exactly. Although, I am still mostly isolated form the world. I have to stay near the premises should Raiden need to attend something outside this realm. Then, I take over. I was planning on doing something I have been meaning to do for a few days now, but with all this chaos, I almost completely forgot about it."
Hmm. "Have you ever seen the deep sea, Lord Fujin?"
He took interest in that thought. "You mean the bottom of the sea?"
"Yes."
"I have not. I have seen all the land and sky creatures. I have also seen the sea creatures of shallow water. but the deep? Never."
"You can shapeshift, no? It's easier than holding your breath for hours." Which I know he can do.
"Us? Shapeshifting?" he said in complete confusion.
I tilted my head in confusion and surprise. "You mean that you...forgot? Or don't know?"
He stared at me in silence. I elaborated my confusion, "In our legends, the Spirits could shapeshift and manipulate their spirits more than we can."
He responded, "Is that what they say? How? I mean, if we could, then we would have."
They seem to rely only on their elemental powers. "Your body is your way to interact with the world physically, but since your true form is an ethereal being, then you must at least be able to manipulate it like we can...and more."
He waited a few seconds to respond. "By your logic, it should be possible for us to manipulate our spiritual form, but it does not say anything about shapeshifting."
"Shapeshifting is not just the act of changing your body, but your spirit as well. When your mind, body, and spirit are in complete tune with each other, you should be able to do what we can. However, you need to must have complete control over your spirit and mind."
He stared at me like I completely shattered everything he believed in. To be honest, I kind of did in some form.
"Can...you teach me?"
It was a good thing I was looking at the floor because my eyes went WIDE. An Essential Spirit asking me to teach him advanced techniques? That he should already know? They are supposed to be these manifestations of certain energies that should be feared and extremely respected! Now they act more human-like! We have been isolated for FAR too long. Even with my ancestors interacting with us (or more like one of us), they only focus on the no-good spirits. I have no choice but to do as he says!
I feel like he could sense my panic and hurried to reassured me. "You don't have to. I'm sure I could learn on my own. It may take longer, but I will eventually relearn it if what your legends say is true."
I stood more rigidly than before and reassured him. "Of course I can teach you, Great Lord! It would be no trouble!" I must teach him what he forgot. Then the rest of the Spirits could learn, and Earthrealm could be more protected. We cannot have the Great Lords die again.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, Great Lord. I will teach you. It would be my honor." I bowed at him.
"And it would be mine to learn from a strong spirit such as yourself." He took his left hand and covered closed right fist. He bowed in thanks.
I immediately mentioned the main problem. "When do you wish to start? How often and how long?"
"We can start the moment you have time and I am not guarding the Jinsei. As for the schedule, we can train as long and often as you can. I understand you have responsibilities."
"I only have my daily debriefing with my uncle and then I will have time." I would normally be a market judge, but my mother can take over today. She loves dealing with that type of stuff.
"Very well, I will leave the moment Raiden arrives and plans to no longer leave the Jinsei. Where should I meet you?"
"There is a river passing east of a village called 'San Antonio Coyahuacan.' Near there is a place where it looks like three rivers meet. It's terrain is dangerous for normal humans. No one goes there."
He nodded. "I will meet you there once it's dark here and Raiden returns."
"I will see you later then." I bowed at him, walked backwards for a bit, and turned to leave.
