I stepped off the bus and slung my backpack on my back and start heading for my house. I walk up the stairs and take a deep breath in and out and grab for the door handle. I opened the door and l glanced around. My mom was in the kitchen, she had her apron on and her hair pulled back in a tight bun and I can smell the delicious odor of chocolate chip cookies.
"Hi mom, I'm home, I say while walking by the kitchen to head up the stairs.
"Victoria, How was your day at school?"She asks even though she can tell I'm not my happy go lucky self.
"It was good," I lied and headed up the stairs to my room.
The last stair squeaks as I step my foot into the hallway and head down to my room. I notice my bedroom door is already halfway open. I peek in and see that the top drawer of my dresser is open and some of my underwear are hanging over the drawer. I look over at my mirror and I can see my little brother admiring himself in my bra with a smile on his face. He noticed I was in the doorway with my eyes blazing with fury and irritation. He giggled maniacally. What's even worse is that he is wearing my black lacey one. I angrily walk to the balcony in the hallway.
"Mom, Vincent is in my stuff again," I yell.
Just as I yell my last word I can hear the timer go off to indicate the cookies are ready. I decide to head back into my room and I yank my bra off Vincent and tell him to get the hell out of my room. I chase him out of my room and slam the door behind him with aggression as he runs to his room laughing. I grit my teeth as I throw my bag against the wall and jump on my bed in frustration. I grab for my journal and consider writing an entry since I haven't in awhile. Especially since today was so stressful not to mention I run into a door and my crush helps me off the floor. I mean how embarrassing can it be.
Just as I thought about starting my homework my mom knocks on my door. Irritated still, I stomp to my door and aggressively fling it open.
"Yes, mom," I said.
"Dinner time Victoria." My mom said lovingly.
"Mom, I'll be right there, I promise."
Just as I utter my last word I could hear her walk down the hallway and make her way down the stairs into the kitchen. Just moments later, Vincent flew down the stairs and ran into the kitchen. I slowly opened my door and shut it behind me in hopes that Vincent wouldn't go into my room again.
I walked down the stairs carefully since I felt clumsy from earlier. As I walked into the kitchen, I saw my mom bringing the dinner over to the table with hot pads. It smelled delicious. I pulled my chair out and sat down. Vincent was sitting in his chair rocking about anxiously waiting for mom to say time to eat. He always had a knack about him that couldn't wait to eat.
My mom grabbed the top off of the dish and got steam billowed out of it and she set it on the table. Dinner was served and I knew it was time to eat. My mother smiled briefly and Vincent had already grabbed a piece of ham. I looked into the dish and saw slightly burnt pieces of ham with pineapples on top. My mom hadn't always been the best cook but I was starving so I didn't care. Vincent started eating and my mom scolded him. Vincent looked at mom annoyed.
"Vincent," my mom said, "Slow down, we have to pray first."
Vincent set down his fork in frustration. I could tell that he got tired of always doing it before eating.
"Victoria, why don't you pray for us tonight." I looked over at Vincent and he was laughing.
"What's so funny?" I said.
Vincent looked over at me and tauntingly rolled his eyes.
"Go ahead Victoria," my mom said.
I bowed my head and put my hands together.
"Dear Lord Please keep our family safe and bless this food in front of us. Be with my mom in her new job and be with Vincent and I in our new schools. Amen"
My mom opened her eyes and Vincent had already grabbed his fork and started stuffing his face ravenously.
"Thanks Victoria," my mom said with a grateful smile.
I had finished my food and Vincent had already set his plate in the sink and ran back upstairs to his bedroom and slammed the door with a bang.
"Vincent," my mom yelled up the stairs, "Be careful with your door, young man."
"Victoria, I can tell you didn't have a good day," My mom said "You know you can always talk to me about it. I've started a new school when I was your age, you know."
I got up from the table in silence and put my plate in the sink with a look of despair. My mom looked over at me with worry on her face. I just walked to the stairs and ran up to my bedroom.
I grabbed my backpack and threw it on my bed. I grabbed my math book out of my bag along with a notebook and a pencil. Then I carried it with me to my desk and slammed it down.
I opened my book and started on my English homework. Just as I started, Vincent threw open my door and ran to me, and started poking me in my side.
"Vincent," I yelled, "Get the hell out of my room you little brat."
"Make me," Vincent said defiantly.
I chased him out of my room as he was laughing. I slammed the door in his face again with frustration.
I continued my homework as I knew it was due tomorrow. Just as I finished, I thought back to my school day today and wondered still about Scott. I wondered why he helped me up this morning when Jessica told me not to waste my time on him. He seemed extremely sweet and I wondered why he wasn't already taken by one of the girls at school. It was no use to keep thinking about him.
"Victoria, time for bed sweetie," mom said in a soft tender voice as she gently opened the door.
"Thanks mom. I just finished my homework and was headed to bed." I replied.
"Wonderful sweetie. You know tomorrow will be a better day," she said in response, "Now sleep tight, honey."
She leaned over and kissed me gently on my cheek and slowly walked out of my room.
I yawned massively and I hoped that tomorrow would be a good day just like my mom had said. Exhausted I slipped under my covers and laid my head gently on my pillow. I drifted off to sleep moments later.
I woke up to my alarm clock blaring in my ear at 7:00 am. I yawned and stretched and sighed. "Ugh, another day at school," I said to myself in a worrisome tone.
My mom knocked lightly on my door and said, "Good morning Victoria, time to get up."
"Thank you, mom," I replied as I let another massive yawn.
I quickly got out of bed and headed for the shower. As I was showering, I thought about seeing Scott at school. I hoped I wouldn't embarrass myself in front of him again. Once out of the shower, I grabbed a towel, wrapped myself in it, and walked back to my room.
I shut the door and threw the towel in my laundry basket that was next to my door. I dressed in a hurry and then grabbed my backpack and flew down the stairs.
Just as I grabbed for the door, my mom kisses me gently on the cheek and hands me my lunch money.
"I hope you have a lovely day at school hun." Just as she said this, the school bus approached my house. I walked towards the bus in anticipation of what today would bring.
