Sorry it's short; there a lot of information, so I wanted to stop where I did and continue the next stuff in the next chapter.
Teoitotia's POV:
I was on a flatter part of the mountain, which is clear of trees for a great portion of the land. Everywhere else, there are trees. If you walk east, there will be a cliff that goes down to a river. I sat to meditate. As soon as I felt Fujin's spirit, I opened my eyes and stood up from my short rock that acted as a short bench. Once he was in front of me, I bowed and welcomed him.
"Welcome Ehecatzin."
He bowed and then in a light tone said, "Thank you, but you can just call me 'Ehecatl' or 'Fujin.'"
At the mention of his equivalent name in Nahuatl, I tensed a bit. Beings that deserve great respect always have -tzin at the end of their names. It's been ingrained in all of us. But I made no promises, "As you wish...Ehecatl." My body tensed and I think I threw up in my mouth a little. Manners are of great importance in our culture and to leave them behind would me the title of 'barbarian.' Unless, I am extremely well acquainted with the other person. That is why I can call my uncle by his regular, given name in private. In public, I must use his title or the respective version of the word 'uncle.'
"Use whatever methods you think is best to teach me," Fujin said.
I nodded and said, "First, I must sense your spirit to learn more about where you are at."
"Go ahead," he responded.
I closed my eyes as my spirit left my body and circled his physical body. We can probably work with this. He just needs to "open up." I opened my eyes. After about 4 seconds, I asked, "The first thing you must know is how to connect with your spirit. After that, you will be able to start manipulating it not just out of your body, but shape it into different forms. Can you connect with it?"
He thought for a moment. "I can."
"Then, can you move it around?"
"Not in the way that is needed."
I got where he was going. "So you can turn into your true form? Do you remember what it feels like as you change?"
He paused for a second. In a gentle voice, he said "Too much time has passed for me to remember what the process feels like." A long pause and he spoke again, "But I can turn into my true form."
"Well, you need to be able to move your spirit without transforming." I thought of an analogy I could use. "Obviously, you know what the wind feel like because you are the wind. It is free. It is not bound to anything. The spirit is like that, but, it is also bound at the same time, like a magnet. It is free to do what it wishes and can separate to work individually, but in the end, it's still bound to itself." I used my hands to illustrate my point, then I paused. "That spirit is still you. Image and try to feel yourself in your true form." He closed his eyes. "Now feel yourself being in the form of water. Fluid. Not bound to anything, not even your body." I paused for a few seconds. "Feel your consciousness being separated into two, but you are able to control them and you can even see through them at the same time and understand everything that they feel." I look at him more focused and I see his spirit, split in two, starting to move beyond his body like it was awake after sleeping for millions of years. His spirit was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. It was white, like his eyes, only not so bright. It was really pleasant to look at and I could do it for the rest of my life. My mother always said that, according to our ancestor, the Spirits' eyes show their spirits. I always interpreted it in a different way, but now I see that I was totally wrong and I'm glad. I felt my own spirit extending beyond my body like it was trying to join his, but I pulled it back. I must have lost control for a bit. I blinked.
Just as his spirit, split in two, was about to leave his body, it snapped back to become whole and went back into his body. He quickly opened his eyes and said, "I apologize. I must have lost focus."
I reassured him. "No need to apologize! You just about did it. If you can manipulate your spirit, then you can at least see mine if you pay enough attention." I flayed a part of my spirit outside of my body. "Did you see that?" I asked him.
He nodded and said, "I did."
"Great. Now look at how my spirit moves and focus on copying the technique as well as feeling your spirit like you did before." I didn't close my eyes because I didn't need to and tried to look at his face only to look down on reflex. I slowly moved my light green spirit with light and dark spots [see bottom link for color], and separated it into two. He looked above my head where my spirit was exiting my body and then closed his eyes in concentration. His face looked more peaceful and I assume he was really trying to feel like he was breaking apart, but was still whole. I saw as his spirit emerge and separate like before. Now he just needed to go outside his body completely. It was slowly moving along and hesitated before it left his body completely. Come on. I hoped his efforts would lead to success...
I smiled as he detached himself from his body and the halves broke into halves. Very good. Then I can push him further. "Now try to become whole without going back into your physical form and separate into smaller parts each time. Start at eight pieces." His white, ethereal self was easily able to become whole. I waited for him to separate into eight parts. His spirit floated and extended and then compressed unevenly as he tried to become eight conscious parts. I looked hard at his spirit with hope...and he finally did it!
"Go on," I encourage him.
... ... ... ... ...
We had spend the rest of the morning and a large part of the afternoon, training. By the end he was able to do the basics, and by "the basics," I mean the basic standards of my people. We were able to do everything I taught Fujin by the time we were 5 years old. That doesn't mean that we barely covered anything. We did. A lot. At that age we are able to shift our spirit into anything we can think of. We can separate into as many parts as we can think of. We were not able to interact with the physical world with our spirits or spend large portions of time outside our bodies. I am the exception though. My spirit was strong from the moment I was born, but I still thought like a child. Anyway, we will now be able to pick up the pace very rapidly. That is, if he trains at least 4 times a week. As a teotzin and the teotzin of knowledge, he learned extremely fast. Should we train 5 days a week for the next month and a half, he should be able to rival the second strongest of the Tliltetepah currently living, my mother, in spiritual skill. My mother is a very clever and creative person, that is why my uncle, the tlatoani, follows all of her advice.
... ... ... ... ...
Fujin and I have trained for the next month. Five days a week. He was ready. I told him that as a teotzin he was most likely able to do things with his spirit we cannot, so he should explore something on his own. By the time that specific training ended, I became really comfortable in his presence. I no longer bowed deeply. I only nodded my head, like we were equals in power and importance (the last part of course is not true) whenever we met. Because Raiden didn't make as much progress as he would have liked concerning the Revenants, spent more time with Fujin beyond training. I learned more about what he liked and let me say, that he is very down to earth. I suppose that is why most indigenous mesoamerican tribes honored him most above all teotzin in the past. I also shared some general stuff about myself with him. I reminded him about our customs and why we still follow them. Also, I told him about things he didn't know previously. Then he told me that he wanted to see if he could really shapeshift like our legends say. I agreed to teach him of course. The first thing I taught him was how to turn into sea creatures. We started small, of course, and trained in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, where we could not be seen for hundreds of miles. When he finally learned how to shift into the biggest sea creature. We moved onto land and then sky creatures. Learning to master shapeshifting took him about three months. After that, I asked him if he wanted to see the deep sea in person with a smile on my face. He remembered that I mentioned that to him when we barely knew each other. He accepted my offer. We went to the deepest parts of the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. I was is my human form with gills when observing the sea creatures. Meanwhile, he was also in his human form when observing, but he held his breath...for hours. After our sea adventures, he asked me if there's something else he should see. I asked him if he has ever seen all the animals in the world in their natural habitat and living their normal lived. He said that he observed most of the land and sky animals from afar, but never up close. So we did exactly that. I've seen a certain smile of his that makes him seen so...at peace. Hell, I've even heard him chuckle and laugh; things we did together when we saw something funny or even told jokes. We went on all of our adventures after fulfilling our duties, of course. We both had responsibilities.
After spending almost a year exploring the world and all its wonders, we started to wonder about what existed beyond the galaxy we live in. We decided to train our spirits to not only leave our bodies for weeks, but also long distances. When we were initially testing our limits, I could go as far as the end of what they call the "Kuiper Belt Objects," after that, my spirit and body felt extreme pain, so my spirit immediately snapped back into my body. Fujin was concerned, but I told him that I knew what I was signing up for. He said that since his spirit was tied to his body, he thought that he could only go outside of what they call the "Milky Way Galaxy" from the farther side (so the longest way to get to the end of the galaxy). He tested his idea and he just about there. His spirit snapped back into his body before he was able to go just outside the galaxy. So I told him that I would push myself so we could explore the galaxy together. Sure there wasn't life in it, but the planets, stars, and moons themselves are interesting to see; their texture, their lives, their history, and so on. While I was trying to reach his ability to go that far, we amused ourselves having philosophical conversations about everything. I have a deep passion for philosophy (and mathematics), and that is why I also teach children; to develop their minds.
After half a year, I was able to reach half of my goal, so Fujin and I started to explore the galaxy using our spirits while our bodies were hidden in the mountains near Tliltetepetl. It took me another half of a year to be able to separate my body and spirit as far was outside the galaxy like Fujin, so we explored more. Exploring the galaxy has been my second favorite thing to do with Fujin (after having philosophical conversations). By the time I was barely 34 years old, Raiden had figured out that with his magic, he could bring back to Revenants to life and cleanse them of Quan Chi's magic. He brought back Kuai Liang, Hanzo Hasashi, and Jackson Briggs. His hope was revived so Fujin stayed to guard the Jinsei Chamber more often as I went on missions to help Raiden. Not long after, my mother told me that the inheritors of the "Cage"/Blade, Takahashi, and Briggs legacy were born (not at the same time of course). I became more comfortable being with the other Spirits, but was still polite, of course.
When I was 36 year old, the rest of the Revenants who helped Earthrealm were restored. They had emotional trauma, but they're healing. They also didn't seem to age during their time serving Quan Chi. Speaking of which, Scorpion was looking for him to exact true vengence. Kitana and Jade, Kotal Kahn's lover, went to Outworld to serve Kotal Kahn. Liu Kang and Kung Lao went back to protecting Earthrealm. Nightwolf went with his people, the Matoka, and started to build himself back up there. Smoke went to serve Sub-Zero. (Let's not talk about Stryker, ok? *light chuckle*)
After that, Fujin and I started to spend more time together again. But something between us changed. We started to talk about more personal things. Then, Fujin asked me why my people say that I might be the strong of the Tliltetepah to have lived (he heard it when some of our warriors were outside our borders dealing with patrols and no-good spirits). He understood that I was strong, so I told him:
"My mother told me that she wanted to make sure I was more clever and creative than her. I say 'wanted' because when I was 15 years old, she realized that I was 'far more clever and creative.' She told me that my mind 'just worked so uniquely different.' She told me that our ancestors even said that. I was told by my grandmother that I was probably born with such a strong spirit and unique mind because I was meant to 'do something that will affect the whole multiverse.' When I was barely 4 years old, my parents were already pushing the limits of my spirit. My mother said, 'There is no point in having a strong spirit if you do not know how to use it.' My father felt pain whenever I struggled and he wanted me to be like the other children; carefree. But he understood my mother's reasoning. That is why I am as strong as I am. Most of my family whose origins reside in Tliltekalli have told me that my power could rival our strongest ancestor, the strongest Tliltetepah; Tliltetlapianitzin. My ancestor has been though a lot in our world, but in death, he has been through, and seen, far more. He must have gained so much experience. My mother, who is in contact with our more recent ancestors, said that she knows my power rivals Tiltetlapianitzin's. I never believed them though."
Fujin responded, "Well you should. After you taught me everything about the potential of a spirit, I sensed you...really sensed you, and believe me when I say this: you are truly one of the strongest spirits I have ever felt."
I turned my head to look away from him and felt my face turn red. After my face returned to its normal color, I turned to face him and asked, "Fujin? Would you like to come within our borders?"
