Chapter 39
Alexis threw open the door. "Jason…"
"Hi, I—"
Danny ran towards him. "Hey, Uncle Jason!"
They shared a warm hug.
"Hey, Danny."
Elizabeth smiled. "Hello."
Danny returned her smile. "How is Jake?"
"Why don't you ask me yourself?"
Jake stepped around them and Danny gripped him tightly.
Alexis shook her head to imply that Danny doesn't know.
Danny pulled him into the room and the adults stepped outside.
"We haven't told him yet. Drew needs to be there and he's a wreck right now."
Jason nodded.
"Did something happen?"
"No, we just thought it would be good for Drew to see the kids. He's showering right now."
Alexis sighed. "I don't want him upsetting Danny."
Liz glanced at Jason who is thinking the same thing. "Alexis, I'm not sure what is going on, but are you going to try to keep them away from him?"
"He is a mess. God, he doesn't even remember who he is and is going to have surgery that may damage him even further. The kids need stability."
"Unbelievable…" Jason said. "Do you remember when Ric went for custody when you were fighting for your life?"
Alexis shifted. "That was different."
"How? Trying to take the kids away from him when he is grieving is not the answer. Do you think Sam would want that?"
Alexis's expression darkened. "Sam would want them to be safe and Drew isn't even taking care of himself right now."
"Are you talking temporary custody or full?" Liz asked.
"Temporary for now, but if he doesn't get it together, I will push it further."
"Why can't you just help out without making it a legal battle?"
"It's for the best due to school and making decisions for them. Also, Franco's mother is still out there. I don't want her to make a play for Danny. She probably knows by now."
Danny is aware of who his father is because Drew and Sam had told him once Drew returned. He was upset, but Drew had assured him that he wasn't going anywhere.
Kristina's car pulled up and when she saw Jason, she ran to him and they embraced.
"It's all my fault."
"No, it's not."
"If I hadn't of went there—"
Jason retreated. "You walked away. That man would have still come after Sam because there is history there. He tried to use you and you got out."
"But—"
"Sam chose to continue pursuing him. That's not your fault." His face softened when she began to cry harder. "I'm sorry for your loss, but please don't blame yourself."
Liz rubbed her back. She can tell from Alexis's expression that she doesn't necessarily agree. "Kristina, you should talk to someone or this is going to eat you up inside. Sam wouldn't want that. Sometimes, it helps to get a different perspective and just let out your feelings where there is no judgment. Think about it, okay?"
"Okay." She slipped into the house.
Alexis had always thought that Sam would die due to Jason's job, but she ended up taken out by someone from her past.
"We're going to pick up some food for Drew on our way back. Can you meet us in an hour? I think it's time Danny finds out before he does accidentally. He probably already knows something is wrong."
"Fine."
Alexis went back inside. "Jake, your parents are leaving."
Danny pouted.
"I'll see you soon."
"Promise?"
Jake nodded and then left.
IiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIi
Drew took a bite of the egg sandwich and then put it down. "Happy?"
"Not until you finish it," Liz said.
"I'm not a child."
"No one claimed you were but you're not taking care of yourself and the house was a mess."
"Sam died."
"I know, but Drew, the kids need you."
"They are fine."
She sighed heavily. "Alexis is coming over soon so that you can tell Danny."
"Jesus, Elizabeth…"
"It needs to be done before he accidentally finds out and it needs to come from you."
He stood and began to pace. "I don't know if I can handle it."
Liz moved in front of him. "Alexis is going to go for temporary custody, possibly full. Do you want to lose them altogether?"
He is stunned. "She said that?"
"She is a bitch if you haven't noticed."
He smirked.
"Don't give her the satisfaction and give in."
"I don't know if I can do this by myself."
"Why not? You run a large organization. I think you can handle raising two kids."
"I'm not you. I don't know if I'll be good—"
She held up her hand. "Enough! With this attitude, Alexis will take your kids, leave the country, and you'll never see them again. She's capable of it. Is that would you want?"
"No."
"Then snap out of it. I'm not telling you that you can't grieve for her, but you have to dig deep and find a way to be a father too."
The dam began to break, and Elizabeth hugged him. "We'll be here for you."
The men went onto the balcony to give him some space.
"Did that bitch really threaten to take the kids?" Johnny asked.
"Yeah."
"I thought she liked him," Francis said.
"Maybe, she was just glad that he wasn't me. I don't know. God only knows what goes on in Alexis's head. Maybe you can tell Paulie to have someone shadow her."
"Done," Johnny said turning to make the call.
IiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIi
Alexis knocked on the door and two seconds later, Jason opened it.
"Come in."
She nodded and Danny rushed into the room and made a beeline for Drew.
"Dad!"
Drew held him close as tears threatened to fall.
"Is mom upstairs?" He looks around the room wondering who Johnny and Francis are.
Alexis hands Alana over and Drew kisses her.
"Your mom isn't here."
"Well, where is she?" He can feel the tension in the room and his lip starts to tremble.
"Danny—" Drew cuts Alexis off.
"There was a bad man that hurt your mom."
"Is she in the hospital?"
"No." A tear ran down Drew's face and he handed the baby to Jason because he was the closest.
Jason rocked her as her eyes fluttered shut.
"Your mom is gone, Danny. She's in heaven."
Tears pricked his eyes. "She's not coming back?"
Drew shook his head and Danny threw himself at him and sobbed.
"I'm so sorry," Drew said.
Alexis is getting frazzled. "He's going to make himself sick."
"He needs to let it out," Francis said.
"He's not your child."
Francis brow went up and Alexis got the implication and huffed.
"Go home," Drew said before going upstairs. He doesn't even want to look at her.
Jason handed the baby to Elizabeth and she followed Drew to Danny's room.
"I'm not leaving without them."
"He is their father," Jason said.
"And he's in no condition to care for them."
Jason stepped closer. "What is wrong with you?"
She turned away from him as bitter tears rolled down her face. "She's gone and they are all I have left."
A sob left her lips and Jason cursed under his breath and stepped in front of her. His brother truly owes him one.
Alexis leaned against him and Jason held her as she cried, hoping that the emotion she is finally letting out will help her let this go. After a few minutes, she retreated. "I'll come by later to say goodnight."
She hurried out the door and Jason turned around.
"Dude, you're better than me," Francis said.
"I thought it might help."
"Does everyone in this town make you want to throttle them?" Jake asked.
"Pretty much…" Johnny said.
Liz joined them. "The baby is asleep and so are Danny and Drew."
"That was brutal," Jason said.
"They will be okay. If you guys need to handle anything, I'll stay here with them."
Cam sat next to her on the couch. "I'll help."
"Just don't overdo it, Jason."
He nodded. It's time to have a chat with Peter. "Johnny, call Richie."
"Done."
The Scorpio residence is first on his list.
IiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIi
Jason knocked on Anna's door.
She threw it open. "You're back?"
"I came back because of Drew and Sam."
"I heard. I'm sorry for your loss. Come in."
Finn stood and moved towards them. "Jason…"
Jason nodded.
"What brings you here?"
"I need to have a conversation with you, but I'm waiting for some other people to join us."
"Okay…" She has no idea what he wants, but he looks tense.
There is a knock on the door, so Finn answered it.
"Robin…" They embraced.
"It's good to see you."
Patrick followed and once hugs were exchanged, everyone sat.
"Where are the kids?" Anna asked.
"Mac has them."
Anna pouted.
"We'll bring them by later. So, Jason, what is up?"
Jason cleared his throat. "I don't think I can sugarcoat this, so I'll just blurt out the truth."
Anna and Robin exchange looks.
"We have proof that Faison did testing on Anna and Alex."
"What!"
Robin's eyes are full of horror. "Oh, God. What did he do?"
Patrick gripped Robin's hand.
"He gave Alex, Anna's memories."
Anna's eyes pricked with tears. "That's impossible."
"It's the truth." He threw an envelope on the table. I'm sorry, but you're not Anna, you're Alex."
Anna stood. "Get out!"
"Anna…" Finn said.
She is practically shaking. "You don't come in here and tell me something crazy like this and expect me to just accept it."
"How much do you know?"
Finn steps in front of her to stop her from attacking Jason.
"You were very protective of Henrik. Is he yours?"
Robin gasped. "Jason, stop!"
"Robin, we need answers."
Alex collapses in a heap on the floor. "What do you know?"
"Faison gave you Anna's memories and then fertilized your eggs with—"
"Stop! Don't say it. Please don't," Alex begged. Faison had tortured Anna and she hates that any part of him was inside of her.
Robin began to cry. The Cassadines and Faison had done so much damage. "Where is my mother, Jason?"
He made a call and a few minutes later, the door opened, and Anna is pushed into the room.
Robin wills her body to move as she shakily stands.
Anna starts to cry. "Please…"
Robin rushed toward her and they embraced.
"What's wrong with her?" Finn asked as he rocks Alex who is staring at the reunion in disbelief.
"She was being drugged in a clinic, so it will take a while for her to be completely mobile," Johnny said.
Jake moved into the house and Patrick got up and hugged him.
"God, you've grown so much."
Jake smiled. "Yeah…"
"Everything you need to know is in the file," Jason said.
"Where is my son?" Alek asked.
"He's close."
"And when did you find out?" She is trying to wrap her mind around all of this.
Jason didn't answer and just headed outside.
"You can't let him hurt my son," she yelled.
Robin rushed after Jason. "What are you going to do?"
"Robin, her son is a monster who helped take away seven years of my life. If he's still a threat…"
Robin gulped, not having the heart to beg him and then sadly turned and left.
IiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIi
Jason moved into a small room in a basement where Peter is strapped to the bed. "Hello, Henrik."
Peter swallowed hard. "You know?"
"Yes."
"How?"
"I have my ways."
Peter's tongue swiped over his lip. "What are you going to do to me?"
"I want to know why?"
"I wanted to use you against my father."
"That's it?"
"Yes."
Jason shook his head. "So, you destroyed my life to get back at your father? You could have hired someone to get rid of him."
"Using you was poetic justice and you're proof of his failure."
Jason leaned closer. "I've been trying to think about what I should do to you."
"Let me go?"
"Your mother, Alek, begged me to. Did you know that the Anna in Port Charles was Alek all along?"
Peter poorly hid his shock. "Yes."
"Did you think your mother was Anna?"
"Yes." It was the only reason he thought his father was hiding Anna, but clearly, it was about obsession too.
"The only thing keeping you alive is that you kept me alive."
Peter breathed a sigh of relief.
"However, I don't trust you and I value my family and their wellbeing over yours. I'm sure there are more secrets and I can't take a chance that you'll get desperate at some point and harm people." The deceit in that family is otherworldly.
"I won't hurt them."
"I know you won't. I suppose you came back here to watch the showdown between your father and me?"
"Yes."
"Stupid move, but considering that you are a bit touched, as Johnny would say, it makes sense that you would be so arrogant as to think that no one would figure out who you are."
"I'll leave."
"This is how it's going to go. Have you heard of ECT?"
Peter nodded as fear started to rise.
"We're going to send an electronic pulse to your brain that will get rid of some of your memories. Along with what is in this vial," Jason held up a small bottle, "it will erase your memories altogether. Ironically, you will be like me when I woke up from the accident. After Dr. Romanov finishes the procedure, you will be in a car accident and brought to G.H. or Mercy hospital. Your mom can then claim you."
"Please…"
"Hope you wrote down all your passwords," Jake said. Taking his memories seems so appropriate.
"Your reign of terror is over, Henrik. We'll be watching," Jason said.
Jake smiled as he left the room. His father is brilliant. Now, they need to bring Carly to her knees.
IiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIiIi
The next day, Drew sat at the table and ate some breakfast courtesy of Kelly's diner while Cam and Jake entertained Alana. She is mesmerized by them.
"I got an offer for Aurora."
Jason is surprised. "I didn't know you were thinking of selling it."
"I wasn't, but this has changed everything."
"What are you thinking?"
"I want to leave Port Charles. It's just too toxic here and I don't want to have to deal with Alexis."
Liz's brow rose. "She might fight you."
"She has no say over Alana. While Danny isn't mine biologically, I love him like he is. I don't think a judge would want to separate them and my name is on the birth certificate."
"If you leave after the funeral, she won't get a say."
"When did you become so devious?"
"I may have picked up some bad habits during my boss stint."
"Is Alexis arranging the funeral?" Jason asked.
"Yes. It's going to be in two days."
"We'll leave that night. We have enough room for you. Who is the interested buyer?"
Drew took a sip of his juice. "Some guy named Victor Lord from Pennsylvania." He figured the money would give him a good start and he can pay Jason back.
"It's up to you. We wouldn't mind having you nearby."
"I'm not sure where we'll end up in the end, but I still have my eye on the Tuscany area," Liz said.
"I'll ask Vincenzo if he knows someone in the area."
Liz excused herself and went upstairs into Danny's room and made a call. Aidan picked up right away.
"Mom"
"Hey. You okay?"
"Yeah. I'm outside walking around. Dad ran to the store."
"Listen, a lot has changed."
"I know that Jason is alive. Jake must be happy."
"He is and Jason is going to stay with us for a while."
Aidan sat on the steps. "I read that he got shot."
"He's doing a lot better. We're in Port Charles."
He's shocked. "Why? Is Gram okay?"
"She is fine. I'm going to see her this afternoon. We came because Sam and Spinelli were killed."
"Wow."
"Drew and Sam were engaged."
"How is he?" Aidan had grown fond of Drew when he stayed with them.
"He's wrecked, but he's going to be okay. He wants to live in Italy or Sicily."
Aidan smiled. "It would be nice to have him close."
"That's part of the reason I'm calling. How set are you in staying in Sicily?"
"You want to move?"
"Well, if you want to stay in Palermo to finish school, I'm willing to wait."
Aidan shrugged. "What about Jake and Cam?"
"To be honest, I'm not sure. I hadn't thought about moving until recently. We still have a few months before school starts, so we have time."
"Mom, I think you deserve to live wherever you want. I'll go if you want."
"Okay. Jake might be opposed because of his job; Cam too. We'd be twelve hours away from them." Just the thought of it was making her eyes tear.
"Can you wait until I come back? We can have a family meeting."
"That sounds like a good plan. I can't wait to see you."
Aidan smiled. "Me too. I love you, mom."
"I love you too, baby."
She ended the call and then closed her eyes.
"You okay?" Drew asked moving into the room.
"Yeah. I just spoke to Aidan. He's willing to move sooner, but I'm worried about Jake."
Drew scratched his head. "That is a conundrum. For now, we'll probably come to Sicily. I won't be able to bring everything, so some things will have to be shipped."
"We'll figure it out. Jake was going to move into the back house, but you can have it for now."
"Thanks."
"It will be an adjustment, and I know that it will be hard, but we'll be there to support you."
They embraced.
"That means so much to me."
They separate and Liz wiped a tear away. "Are you coming to the hospital to watch the show?"
"I wouldn't miss it."
She figures at least it will keep his mind off things for a bit.
"Alexis wants to spend time with the kids. She seemed calmer today."
"Hopefully, that's a good sign. I don't think she'd bolt before the funeral."
"Me either."
They went back downstairs and then let Paulie know that they are headed to G.H.
A/N – Well, Monday should be epic. God, I hope you enjoy the chapter as much as I did writing it. I went full-out, over the top soapy craziness with Carly because of her hatred for Elizabeth which is so insane that I thought her demise should be too.
