Chapter 2: First Steps
Hades Royal Palace- three months ago
"So, you're engaged to the Prince, huh?"
Stocking nodded. "Yep."
"Isn't that incest?"
"Huh!?"
"I mean aren't all angels related or something, so you'd be Jaunes aunt, right?"
Stocking fought the urge to puke.
"No, it's not incest. I'm not made of the same cloth so to speak as the angels Jaune is related to." Stocking explained "My mother was the God of some tiny universe that I originally came from. The God who's Jaunes grandfather is the original G. The one who made all the other Gods and universes in his sleep because he had a weird dream at some point."
"Damn...That's both crazy and terrifying."
"No kidding, but at least I don't have to worry about me and Jaune having kids with webbed feet."
"Heh, no relation but you're still thousands of years older, aren't you?"
"Me? I look and feel like I'm in my late teens or early twenties so its fine."
"Still a cradle robber. Though you do act like a child sometimes with that cat plushie you carry around. Plus, you tried acting like a Megatron rip off. That's definitely something an edgy kid would do."
Stocking couldn't shake that. She was at least an edgy teenager not a kid! "I'll have you know my blonde whore of a sister fucked a ginger before he was eighteen. At least my future husband is legal."
Her rival Mandy rolled her eyes. "Still weird...And eww."
"Shut up, at least I'm not into skeletons like you!"
"The hell is that supposed to mean!?"
"I know you kept that grim reaper around more than just cause he could make portals and was a bringer of death. Who's the real edge lord?"
Mandy snorted. "He wasn't so good at that last one."
"Whatever you say grave digger."
Mandy scowled. "Oh yeah? Maybe I'll just go prove I'm not into necrophilia by fucking your fiancé."
"Pft!" Stocking laughed. "Sure, do whatever. You think I actually give a damn about a loser like him?"
The blonde smiled. "That seemed like an awfully defensive answer Stocking. Besides, why are you even here anyway? Angels like you should be off with your harps in Heaven."
"Cause not only am I more powerful than ever thanks to the dark lord, but if I help him with his conquests every once in a while and give him a powerful offspring from me and that blond half-wit, I can do what I've always wanted to do for eternity without a care in the universe." The goth fallen one proclaimed while taking a candy bar from her pocket.
"And that is?"
"Watch TV, read my magazines, fuck, and most importantly eat sweets. Maybe even discover new kinds as well from other universes."
"I see...How very disappointing." Mandy retorted as she started to walk away.
"What's that supposed to mean!?" Stocking called after her.
Mandy turned around. "It means prince Jaune is having a disservice done to him by being stuck with someone who has no real ambition as his queen. You're honestly nothing but a waist of space." And with that she left the room.
Present Day
Stocking huffed as cleaning the blood off her katanas. She had been feeling cheeky about using her alter ego as the leader of the Stockingcons as a nickname for her prey. That was until she was reminded of that stupid blonde. That conversation with Mandy seemed to play in her mind at least once or twice a day. "Stupid mouthy bitch. No one is going to get in the way of my cozy position."
Once her blades were clean, she pulled a sucker out of her pocket and sat next to one of the still active campfires. The body's strung about didn't bother her in the slightest as she allowed herself to relax. The rain had ceased, and she glanced up at a now clear night sky. The stars and broken moon shone brightly make Stocking almost appreciate the natural beauty of this world.
"Not bad I guess." She muttered in an attempt to distract her brain from thinking about her rival but instead brought her mind to the dark prince. "At least Jaune isn't always trying to one up me in front of the boss. He isn't a whore ether." She chucked since he was still a virgin. "I almost can't wait to see the look on his face when he sees a nice pair of tits in person for the first time."
"Who's the whore now?" An old voice echoed into her mind.
"Shut up Panty. You're dead and gone."
"Na, I'll always be inside your head sis. Looks like I'll be the only company you'll ever have too."
"Shut the fuck up!" Stocking hissed as she stood up dropping her sucker in the fire as a result. "Tch, look at what you made me do."
"That was all you dummy. Funny how not even sweets can really fill that void inside of you."
"Shut up! You're not real!"
"Apparently I am to you. Too bad I'm not able to manifest though. That Jaune probably has a decent tree trunk between his legs."
"You cunt. Even in death you're still a whore. Trying to take my fiancé no less."
"Since when did you care about him?"
"I don't!"
"Yeah, you keep telling yourself that. We both know the truth."
"What are you even talking about?"
"In life you never could hide much from me. And now that I'm inside your noggin, I can read you like a book."
Stocking didn't say anything but instead kicked the fire out in rage. Was she really going mad?
"Catch you later sis." And with that Panty's voice stopped echoing inside of her head. Stocking said nothing more as she stood up and decided she would let off some steam by thinning the local grim population.
Jaunes eyes fluttered open. With a slight panic, he quickly leaned up in his sleeping bag before glancing around his surroundings. Most students were still asleep, while others were silently playing on their scrolls or watching videos on them. Some sleeping bags were empty, indicating those students were probably just getting an early start on things.
Either way the young Nephilim was happy to see nothing out of a generic ecchi anime had happened. Blake was still asleep not far from him and hadn't rolled against him or he with her, causing an awkward cringe worthy scenario to play out. Still just to be safe he scooted over a few inches before attempting to get some more sleep.
However, sleep didn't come and with antics of last night he was pretty sure he was going to be running on only three or so hours if sleep. Whatever their initiation was he was gonna need adrenaline to get him through it.
He pulled out his scroll and decided on what he was going to do. Maybe it was a good idea to branch out and make some friends, but he doubted any of the ones he made at a school full of heroes would hold. So perhaps it was best trying to meet people in the city instead. Jaune decided to make an account on Vale Book. An app designed to help meet other people within the city of Vale.
With the setup complete Jaune looked through some of the many profiles. Out of curiosity, he had set his preferences to both men and women just to see what was out there. The profiles were set up with a username so users didn't have display their name if they didn't want to.
Alpha Winchester: Looking for possible threesome-
Dang not satisfied with just one huh?
Isekai Adventurer: Looking to get rid of three party members. If interested, contact me for price negotiations-
Well, that one was certainly different... Was this code for prostitution or something?
Velvet Bunny123: Looking for that big human dick, faunus males need not apply, I love to be bullied and used by my human masters-
Fuck! I thought this was more than just a kinky hook up site.
NinjaCat69: cat faunus looking for something casual or hooking up. Just got out of my last relationship and not looking for anything serious. BDSM is a huge plus but can work around it if that's not your thing. Open to threesomes or orgies if I get to know you a bit first.
Holy shit…Maybe this was a bad idea after all. Not that it stopped him from hitting like on her profile. He was a bit curious as to what this whole BDSM stuff was.
Behind him, Blake's scroll went off once.
Jaune continued scrolling.
Snow_White34: Faunus men only. You human boys belong in c-
And Jaune was back with the raceplay…
It was hard to think humans and faunus viewed one another as so different. They were all pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things when he thought about it. All of this just made him picture two types of insects battling it out for dominance over a small piece of dirt.
After scrolling through for about twenty more minutes he finally found a profile he was looking for.
M1: Open to anything if I like you. My favorite hobbies are drinking with my sister or having someone go down hard on me. Video games and anime are a good time as well. Just shoot your shoot and ill respond…If I feel like it.
Hopefully, she was open for friendship. It did say anything after all. She didn't sound like she was a human or faunus supremacist or cuck. And just having someone to drink with who wasn't training to be some sort of hero sounded amazing to the young devil.
Jaune hit the like button on her profile and decided to wait to send her a message until after initiation. It would give him time to think of something good to say, although he felt rather dumb for having public pics of himself and using his real name, but he had thought that was the whole point to get to know people online. Not shady looking hook up offers. After closing out of the app he made his way to the showers to get ready for the day. Once today was over and things got settled in he would be sitting on easy street. Just keep his head down and report anything that might be useful before the invasion starts.
Ozpin was having a rough morning. He was supposed to be supervising this year's initiation, but instead he was supervising his now hungover underling, and his sister who hadn't been seen here in Vale for over a decade and finding out the Spring Maiden was dead. Naturally Glynda was going to have to supervise without him this time.
"Her name was Vernal…" Raven muttered.
"Vernal was the Spring Maiden?" Ozpin asked.
"Yes."
Odd, I was almost certain the girl who ran away was named Alice. Perhaps she just changed her name to avoid detection?
Raven had almost bled out by the time he had arrived. The only reason she was still alive was to the credit of Qrow's first aid skills he had learned in his days back at Beacon. Despite the severity of the wounds Ozpin was glad he had waited so he could bring them to some place they could speak and heal freely. Just casually going to any hospital with one of Mistral's most wanted wouldn't have ended favorably.
Raven was now currently laying back in a hospital bed and with time would recover, but it would be a long time and she would need to get used to the idea of being here.
"I see. And could you possibly tell me more about this attacker?"
Raven snorted. "She was dressed like a schoolgirl from Mistral. The typical plaid skirt and button up light coat with the tie."
Ozpin placed a hand under his chin in thought. "Hmm. Do you think she could have been a student at Haven?"
She would have to at least have some sort of huntsmen training to even be close to actually being responsible for all this.
Raven shrugged. "No idea. It's possible, but she didn't have their armband on."
Qrow laughed as he took another swig from his flask. "Come on Oz, do you really think a trainee could be responsible for this?"
Ozpin sighed. "I don't know. In my time I've seen even first years capable of some truly incredible things. I don't have enough information to rule anything out at this point."
"Still. If she isn't with Salem then why would she do this?" Raven asked. She clenched her fist bitterly. "Did you piss some more people off other than Salem Oz?"
It was true in his inhuman lifetime he had made more enemies then he cared to admit.
"That's something you should be asking Raven. Or do I have to remind you what you and yours did to people in Mistral. It could even be someone with a personal vendetta against your tribe or someone trying to cash in on a bounty." Ozpin countered.
"Those people only have themselves to blame for being too weak to stop us. The strong are the rulers of this world Ozpin. Whether we like it or not, that will never change."
In truth Ozpin was rather happy to hear of the tribe's departure from this world. The fact he had allowed them to roam unchecked for so long weighed on him. He should have done more with the Mistral to help bring them to justice.
Leo had always told him he was doing all he could and didn't want him to have to get involved however…
"That's the very thing I'm trying to protect the world from. It's the duty of those in charge and the strong to protect their people. Not bully and rob those who are weaker than them."
Raven and Salem were more alike then the former bandit would aver admit it seemed.
"Yeah, I'm sure Summer is resting well in her grave knowing she gave up her family to go be a big strong hero to a bunch of nobodies." Raven spat.
Qrow got up and grabbed Raven by the collar. "Don't you dare bring her into this! Don't soil her name or her sacrifice with your headstrong self-righteous bullshit!"
"Or what Qrow? You know it's true. Summer was weak anyway. Why else would she have been killed?"
SLAP
The sound echoed the room as Raven growled at Qrow in disbelief.
"If you ever talk about Summer like that again I'll finish what that attacker started." Qrow seethed before leaving the room and slamming the door behind him.
While Ozpin would not have gone that far, Summer had been one of his favorite students and someone with a pure heart. Her death weighed heavy on him everyday and he suspected that would only intensify now that her daughter was attending his school. Especially since it was ahead of schedule at his request. He could see why Qrow had acted the way he did.
"You know the truth as well as I do Ozpin. Salem can't be beat. Those students of yours and us back in the day? We are all just cannon fodder to delay the inevitable."
"And what would you have us do Raven? Just lay down and let her steamroll us? Or keep fighting so our kids can at least have a future of their own no matter how finite?"
Raven didn't say anything back.
With another sigh Ozpin turned to leave himself. "I suppose that's enough for today. I'll see you again tomorrow."
"Great…"
And with that he left.
He wasn't worried about Raven trying to escape. She didn't have anywhere to go now and he and Qrow was her best bet at not dying or spending the rest of her life behind bars. While he hated to admit it, she was useful in not just fighting, but also whatever other information he could get from her. A new unknown enemy was the last thing he or the world needed at this point.
Picking up his scroll he dialed Leo's number.
"Hello?"
"Hello Leo. A perplexing situation has just arisen."
"What do you mean?"
"Tell me do you have any information on someone going by the name Gothitron?"
Initiation was not going how Jaune had expected it would. Fighting the monsters of Grimm? Sure, it made sense they were being tested on that. Being thrown off a cliff, however? That was big NO as far as the devil spawn was concerned.
Thankfully, his genetics had him covered as far as needing to fly and not falling to his death. Large black skeletal wings emerged from his back. They may lock frail and withered compared to his cousins like Joan for example, who had beautiful feathery white wings, but he could still get the job done all the same and he was able to glide down to the ground softly.
"Well, this is rather screwed up… I wonder how many of these brats are going to get smashed like eggs on the ground?"
Jaune hid behind a tree as the sounds of fighting echoed within the forest. It seemed not as many students had fallen to their deaths as he expected and were apparently engaging their grimm enemy in combat. The thought of hiding and getting a relic back to Beacon without finding a partner sounded alluring to the anti-social butterfly.
"Doing some reconnaissance I see?"
The voice from behind cause Jaune to damn near shit himself as he jumped into the air slightly.
"It seems you have a good head on your shoulders since you're not just rushing into combat recklessly like a lot of others are doing." The redhead continued with a smile.
"Right…Sure that's what I was doing." He replied sheepishly.
"So, I guess we 're partners huh? What's your name?"
"It's Jaune…And you are?"
The redhead's eyes seemed to glow slightly as she responded in cheerful manner. "It's Pyrrha. Pyrrha Nikos."
"Right. It's nice to meet you Pyrrha." Jaune replied turning around and starting his walk through the dense forest.
The redheaded spartan followed close behind. The sounds of growling echoed from the forest, causing Jaune to instinctively pull out his sword Diablo along with his retractable shield. It was a pretty typical looking sword other than the small red glowing runes on it.
"So, do you just use a sword and shield, or can it do other stuff as well?" His new partner questioned.
"Nope. Just a plain ol sword and shield. Nothing fancy."
"Well I respect your love for the classics. My spear can transform into a rifle or short sword itself."
"That's pretty neat." Jaune replied, trying not to sound too uninterested and come off as rude. She seemed like a nice enough person after all.
Thankfully for him before the conversation could drag on any further two Beowolves hurled themselves out of the trees at them. Jaune was intent to stand back and let his new partner handle them. Without even thinking she surged forward and impaled her foes with almost graceful ease.
"Well, that was better than what I could do." Jaune admitted.
"I think you're being too modest, but I do still appreciate the chance to show off a bit." Pyrrha smirked returning to his side.
"Trust me, I'm not, but I appreciate the confidence you seem to have in me." He replied as they made their way closer to the site of the relics. She remained silent as they approached the clearing. It turned out the relics they were supposed were nothing more than chess pieces.
Starring at the relics for only a second Jaune went for the black king piece.
"Why that one?" Pyrrha asked innocently.
"Did you want to get a different one?"
"No, that one is perfectly fine. I'm just a bit curious as to why you gravitated to that one so quickly."
Jaune shrugged. Other than being a perfect symbol of what his father was and expected him to be someday he wasn't sure. "Just a bit symbolic I suppose. Maybe I'll elaborate more after we get out of the monster infested forest."
"Sure. Sorry if I'm being too personal too soon. I'm not really used to this whole team stuff. I just want to learn more about you is all." She replied a bit flustered.
"It's fine. I can relate. I'm not used to working with others myself." He responded trying to sound sympathetic.
Thankfully it seemed to cheer the girl up and the duo made their way back to Beacon.
Ilia and Yuma jumped between the tall skyscrapers of Atlases skyline. Yuma had the advantage of his large bat wings, but it seemed he couldn't outright fly with them but rather control fall. She on the other hand was skilled in acrobatics and had been doing things like this since she was a young teenager. The two knelt out of sight in a rundown portion of Atlas's industrial district.
"Are you sure this is the right place Yuma?"
The bat faunus nodded. "That's what the intel says. They are keeping Atlas's new big guns hidden here."
Something about this didn't sit right with her.
"Who's intel? There aren't even any guards out. Even if this was something they were trying to keep low key there should still at least be some sort of small-scale surveillance or something."
"It's still worth checking out. If you ask me, I think it just shows how arrogant Atlas has become with its toys. They probably think no one would stroll into a random abandoned factory." He smiled and glided down from the building, leaving her little choice but to follow after him.
"Still!" She whispered in more of a hiss. "We shouldn't just go charging in!"
He ignored her as the duo closed in on the old factory. Carefully looking around their surroundings, they continued into the building. The factory itself smelled of rust and decay. Cobwebs were rampant on the old and seemingly abandoned factory equipment.
"I don't see any mechs." Yuma hissed.
"We should just turn around and go." Ilia replied, grabbing his arm only for him to yank it back.
"We haven't' seen the whole factory yet. We still might find a clue or something of value."
"How can you be so sure!? Face it the intel was bad."
"It can't be!" Yuma hissed once more. "We need this Ilia. Can't you see this type of weapon could change everything for us."
It was then that the factory doors closed behind them. Swarms of soldiers wearing strange black armor jumped out of hiding one after the other from the various equipment or large crates with their rifles raised.
"Well it looks like I owe Gaz ten bucks." A new voice remarked coming out of hiding. Her black uniform seemed to suggest she was of a high rank of some kind along with a cap that didn't stop her long blonde hair from leaking out of it. The cap had a small skull on its center. "It seems the rats are more desperate for a big win then I thought."
"You Atlesian fuckers!" Yuma hissed out of blind rage.
"Shit." Ilia lept behind a crate along with Yuma right behind her.
Ilia wasn't so sure these were actually Atlesian. They didn't look like any type of solider she had ever come across anyway.
"It's not our fault you were so easy to trick." She gave a cruel smile. "We aren't Atlesian ether, however you do have information we could use."
Obviously by now it was clear the intel dealer had been a mole. If a few minor wins were all it took to get Yuma to bite onto something that was now obviously too good to be true, then it didn't bode well for their organization. Faunus like Yuma were the rule and not the exception.
"I'd rather die then help any of you filthy humans with anything!"
"Wait!" Ilia called after Yuma, but it was too late. The bat attempted to lash out at the nearest black clad solider, but he was instantly gunned down the second he was out of cover. His short temper finally being his undoing.
Ilia tried not to throw up her lunch as her former comrade bled out on the ground from seemingly dozens of different places. She wiped away the water from her eyes.
"Men switch to stun rounds. We need one of these things alive."
The sounds of magazines changing could have been her second of opportunity to escape had she not been so shaken up, but they had finished before the thought had even come to mind.
Is this really it for me? Is it all really going to end here?
It was do or die. She knew she was faster than any human and the nearest window was less then four feet away. If she could just get through it and use her camouflage, she might get out of this.
She took a breath and with all the adrenaline she could muster, she attempted to sprint to the nearest window.
Muffled sounds echoed through the factory as she felt her body go numb and her vision faded to nothing.
Mandy stood over the now still body of the tan human animal hybrid before turning to her second in command. "Captain, bring the prisoner to General Grievous for interrogation."
"Yes ma'am."
Her soldiers hastily lifted the body of the lizard faunus and began to carry her to the back of the factory.
"What about the other one ma'am?"
"Bring that one as well. We might be able to at least get some useful parts out of it for Zim's experimentation."
"Understood ma'am."
Mandy had to admit turning an old factory into a hidden base for a reality shaking invasion was a new one for her, but some things never seemed to change. The fact that these White Fang as the animal supremacists of this world were called had actually fallen for such a simple trap made her wonder if all the resources being committed wasn't overkill? In the end she supposed it didn't matter.
Stupidity never seemed to change no matter where she went, and she had known stupidity well. For her twenty-two years of life she had been best friends with a universe class idiot. And yet no matter how annoying he got she found she just couldn't leave him…That was until death took her. She didn't mean Grim ether.
She started to follow her soldiers back deeper into the factory. They would of course now need to move locations soon but hopefully the information they would get would be worth the trouble.
Looking up she could see the light of this worlds broken moon shine through the glass of the factory.
"Well…I suppose that's that then."
AN: Thanks for reading! I know this chapter was a bit much with general POV changing, but things are going to start condensing next chapter. I know I skimped on initiation, but honestly, I really wasn't looking forward to writing that part. I don't know why, but the thought of trying to write the team pairings and meeting for that always felt too constricting. It just felt like I was going to have to copy too much of what the original show did for that for my liking especially since I'm keeping the teams the same. Anyway, I won't be skimping on the action parts ether starting the next chapter.
