It turns out brand-new devils do grunt work. Part of that grunt work is handing out the fliers with pentagrams; the fliers I found out were unique because not just anyone can take them. According to Akeno, only humans with strong desires will even acknowledge them. I found that out the hard way when less than a handful of people took the fliers, which made my job incredibly difficult. Still, I must push through for Rias. She gave me a job to do, and never let be said that Magnus Maverick did a half-assed job.
Though at the rate I was going, it would take me at least a month to pass out all these fliers. In the name of expedience, I posted a lot of fliers at various places. Mostly the colleges, maid cafés, any place that had a bulletin board. It took a few days for any results to come through, but I say that my results panned out. When asked about the increase of summoning requests, I told Rias what I did, and she was quite pleased.
"I have to say that it was quite clever on your part." Rias folds her hands together with a pleasing smile. "It also saves time. Good job."
With a grin, I place my arms behind my head. "Thanks. So what's next?"
"I wanted to wait for this, but if you think you're ready. How would you feel about taking on your first summoning?" She raises a delicate eyebrow with a neutral expression.
"Do you think I'm ready? We still don't know what my Sacred Gear does, and I haven't learned how to use it… What did you call it?" I cross my arms with a small frown. "Demonic power?"
The crimson-haired beauty nods. "I do. Most summoning requests are usually pretty simple; in fact, why don't we explain some of our clientele. Akeno, would you care to start?"
"Certainly, madam president." The black-haired girl who was standing behind Rias bows. "Magnus, most of my clients are businesswomen in high positions. I usually aide them with their paperwork or other things like that."
"Akeno's customers and mine are similar. Though I normally cook for them or provide massages." My only male friend looks up from his book.
Koneko was busy eating some chips when her turn came up. "Mine are the weirdos. Otakus who want me to play dress up, or play games with them."
"They don't try to do anything… Inappropriate with you?"
To answer the question, Koneko snaps a chip in half, while maintaining vivid eye contact. "No."
…. Why did I feel the icy hand of death upon me? "Well, good." My fellow devils (except for Koneko) smirk at my reaction. "Okay, am I missing something? Anyone want to clue me in?"
"You'll find out in time." Rias chuckles. "For now, focus on your up and coming contract. Akeno, please prepare the circle. Since Koneko has some back log on requests, I want you to fill in on one of her jobs. Though you won't be going alone, I'll be joining you for this summoning, to show you the ropes." As Rias explains the black-haired girl bows and walks to the other side of the room, opening the double doors revealed a sizeable glowing platform. Akeno stops in front of the platform as her hands begin to glow.
"Uh… What is Akeno doing?" I ask with a confused look.
"To reach the contractor we have to teleport there, now give me your hand." Rias explains as she walks over to me.
"What? Already? Rias, I'm flattered and all, but we're still so young-Oh wait, you just need my hand, my mistake." When no one laughed, I frown. "Oh come on, that was funny."
Koneko just rolls her eyes. "Keep telling yourself that."
"Hold still." Rias tells me as she takes my hand and draws a glowing symbol on my right palm.
Wow, her hand is soft… Focus, Magnus focus! "Ouch." That kind of stung. "What does this thing do?" I ask as the symbol vanishes.
"Don't be such a baby." Rias playfully smacks my shoulder. "That will allow you to use the teleportation system we have set up. Eventually, we'll show you how to teleport on your own."
I get to learn magic? "Cool."
"Now, follow me." The crimson-haired girl walks toward the glowing circle. "Normally, we don't need to use this circle, but since this is your first time, this will be easier."
"Makes sense." I step into the circle with Rias as the others surround us.
"Have a safe trip, Magnus." Kiba waves with a friendly smile.
Koneko crosses her arms. "Don't screw up."
"He'll be fine, Koneko." Akeno assures the silver-haired girl. "Just listen to Rias, and you'll be fine."
"Ready Magnus?" Rias asks.
"Ready as I'll ever be." I tell her with a smile.
My Devil Master nods in satisfaction, as the circle glows even brighter. "Good, oh, and you may feel a slight tingle. Don't worry."
"Wait for wh-"
"-at?" We were no longer in the Occult Research Club; we are in an apartment filled with… Traditional Japanese antiques, I wonder if the person who lived here is a history nut? "This is pretty cool; oh look, there is a suit of samurai armor." Said armor stood up, freaking both Rias and me out.
"You… You're the devils, right?" A very feminine voice squeaks.
I blink in confusion and then look to Rias; my master looks at me just as confused. "Um… This is unexpected, but yep we're the devils. I'm Magnus."
"I'm Susan-san, I'm a foreign exchange student, and I love Japanese culture." The girl in the armor extends her hand out to us. "It's totally cool!"
Shaking off her confusion, Rias takes her hand with a smile. "A pleasure to meet you Susan-san, I'm Rias."
"I think we may have found your long lost twin Red." I playfully nudge the crimson-haired girl, after I shake Susan's hand.
My master flushes slightly. "Not now, Magnus."
"So… Susan… Why are you wearing the armor? Not that it isn't cool, just curious." I ask, peering at the girl.
The samurai starts to wiggle uncomfortably. "Well, this area is terrifying at night, so I wear it to keep all the bad people away."
Huh… I guess that makes sense. I scratch the back of my head. "It is tough living in a foreign country on your own, trust me I speak from experience. I've been here for a year already."
"You're not from here, either?" Susan asks in confusion.
"I'm from Los Angeles, you?"
"Seattle." The armored girl answers.
I put a hand on my hip and start to chuckle. "That is pretty cool, West Coast neighbors."
"Ahem, I'm sorry to interrupt." Rias clears her throat with a smile. "Perhaps we should get to the matter at hand?"
Oh right, we're on the clock. "Sorry about that."
"It's fine. Susan, how can we help you?" Rias politely asks with her arms folded.
"Oh, wait, allow me to fetch some tea." Moving quicker then I thought possible for someone in armor, Susan goes to her kitchen and begins to prepare the tea. As she did, Rias and I removed our shoes just to be polite and sat down. A couple of minutes go by, and Susan returns with three cups of tea on a tray. After passing out the hot drinks, the armored girl sits down and removes her helmet and mask.
Without her helmet, she is kind of cute. Susan has curly blond hair, bright skin, and dark brown eyes. She looks to be a couple of years older than Rias and me, so I'm going to say she is a college student. Hm… I wonder if she goes to Kuoh's college division? "Thank you for the tea." I slowly sip the hot liquid. Not bad, not as good as Akeno's tea, but not bad.
"Yes, thank you." Rias answers in kind as she drinks from her cup.
Susan bows her head. "You are most welcome."
"So… What can we do for you, Susan?" I asked, placing my tea down.
"Well… You see… The thing is-" Susan's face turns bright red, and she begins to wiggle. "-I left my notebook at school, and I'm too scared to get it." The foreign exchange covers her face and looks away.
I… I look at Rias in confusion. "Seriously?"
"You don't understand! It's super scary out there!" Susan shouts in a frightened tone.
I hold up my hands. "Okay, sorry, sorry. So… Just get your notebook, right?"
"Well… There is something else… If that is okay." Susan asks, rather shyly.
I look at Rias then at Susan. "I'm fine with it, but I'm not the boss, what do you think Rias?"
The crimson-haired girl smiles kindly at Susan. "Of course, what is it?"
"Well… It's about… A guy." Susan practically whispers.
"Let's get your notebook first then." Rias suggests.
I look between the girls with a frown, Susan didn't look comfortable leaving her apartment. "Susan, why don't you tell me where the notebook is, and I'll get it for you. That way you can stay here with Rias and talk. Oh… If that is okay with you?" I turn my gaze to Rias, hoping that I didn't overstep my bounds.
My master furrows her brow in thought. "Just be careful and call me if anything happens. Okay?"
"You got it. So, Susan, where did you leave your notebook?"
(Third Person POV, Rias Gremory:)
As the bronze-haired teen leaves the apartment, the pure-blood devil turns to the blonde girl. "So, tell me about this boy."
"His name is Horii-san, and he is a classmate of mine." Susan starts to fidget and stares at her lap, a blush on her face. "He is just so swe-sweet and cute; I l-like him!"
Rias smiles as the older girl talks about her crush. "I see." It must be nice to speak about your true feelings openly. "Have you tried talking to him?"
"No!" Susan shouts with wide eyes. "I-I can't! I'm too shy." To shy? What to do about that? Rias thought over the options when Susan said something that shocked her. "Kind of like you."
"What?" Rias looks up in surprise. "Shy? About what?"
"That boy… Magnus. You like him, right?"
A small blush colors her cheeks, as the devil heiress stares at Susan. "He is my friend and servant, nothing more."
"Oh… It's just; I saw the way you looked at him when he wasn't paying attention. Plus, the way he looks at you." Susan bows nervously. "I'm sorry it's none of my business."
Rias gestures for the other girl to rise with a sigh. "It's fine, Susan. For now, I think we should focus on your problem. So, you can't tell Horii-san directly. Have you tried a letter?"
"Of course!"
(First Person POV, Magnus:)
"So, you're too shy to ask her in person?" I ask the man in plate mail armor. Man, I do meet weird people. I was on my way back to Susan's apartment with her notebook when I ran into a man in full plate armor. Suffice to say I freaked out, but after I calmed down, I talked to the guy. His name is Horii, and he loves Medieval Europe and its history. He also has a crush on a girl in class, a girl named Susan. The universe has a sense of humor or perfect timing.
The older boy nods. "It is true, my strange haired friend, I wish to tell the fair Lady Susan how I feel. Sadly, I am overcome with incredible fear. What if she rejects me? Or what if I am not good enough for her? Tell me, have you ever faced such a dilemma?"
"Umm…" I look down at my hands with a frown. "Sort of… See, there is this girl she is-" I can't say master-Wait am I thinking about Rias? I clear my throat and shake my head. Think about that later, Magnus. "-Never mind, but yes, I have. Maybe you should send her-Hey, what's that?" I squint up at the night sky… Does it look like something is coming at us?
Horii looks up as well. "I think it may be-" Clang! "-An arrow."
"Uh… Message for you, sir." Stuck in Horii's helmet is an arrow. "Oh, look an actual message." I remove the message and hand it over to Horii. "I believe this is for-" My phone begins to buzz; I answer it with a wry smile. "Hulk's Deli. You order it; we smash it. Hey Rias… No, I'm fine. What? No, I got the notebook, but you'll never believe this. An arrow came out of what's that? Really? I think I found your guy. Yep, right in the head. What? No! No, he's fine, hit his helmet…. You heard me. Hm? Hold on… Hey Horii, what do you think of the letter?"
"My… Does my beloved Lady Susan return my affections? I must see her right away!" The man in full plate armor jumps up excitedly.
"-Yeah… He wants to meet her as well; sure I'll bring him to you. See you soon." I hang up my phone. "Come, brave knight, I'll lead you to lady fair." I stand up and gesture for Horii to follow me. It didn't take us long to get back to Susan's place. I knock on the door before opening it with a smile. "I'm back, and I have a present for you." I pass Susan's notebook to Horii and gesture for him to go on in. As the knight walks into the apartment and past Rias, he gets on one knee and presents the notebook to the samurai.
As the two college students talked with one another, I couldn't help but notice something. Rias…. She was looking at me, of course, the moment I caught her, she turned away. "Everything okay, Red?"
"Yes. You did a good job, Magnus, I'm proud of you."
I flush at her words and look away. "Um… Thanks." Coughing, I turn my attention back to Horii and Susan. The two armored college students were busy fawning over one another. "That's cute."
"It must be nice being able to express their true feelings." Rias comments with an expression I could identify only as longing.
I think over my conversation with Horii. Am I too shy to tell Rias how I feel? I… Well, I think a better question is, what do I feel? She brought me back to life to life, so I am grateful to her for that. She is my friend and has been for a year now. I do find her attractive, who wouldn't? But do I like her outside of friendship? I… I think so. But I can't say anything, she is my master, and even if she weren't, why would she be interested in a guy like me? I'm her servant and a friend. "Yeah… Hey, if you ever need to talk, I'm here for you."
With a grateful pat on my arm, Rias's sapphire eyes glowing with appreciation. "Thank you, Magnus. Come on; we should leave these two alone." As we leave, my eyes linger on Susan and Horii, and my chest tightens slightly.
The following day after school, Rias decided that I would complete a summoning request on my own. I didn't think I was ready, but after some encouragement from the rest of the Occult Research Club, I gave in. Hopefully, my summoner isn't a huge muscular man that wants to be a magical girl. As weird as my life is right now, I don't know if I could handle that much weirdness.
"Well, wish me luck, everyone." I say to my friends.
"Good luck." Kiba politely waves.
"Don't mess up." Koneko tells me.
Akeno, who was busy preparing the magical circle, smiles. "You got this, Magnus."
"Remember, once you contact the summoner, ask what their wish is and if you can fulfill it as best you can. Afterward, collect a fair payment and come back here." Rias places her hands on her hips.
"Got it." I give them a thumb's up as a bright flash of appears around my body…. And nothing happened. I'm still in the club room. "Okay… What the hell just happened?" I look around the room in confusion. "I made the jump yesterday, didn't I?"
Rias rubs her chin in thought. "What a shame looks like you can't make the jump on your own." My master turns to Akeno and nods, the black-haired girl nods and strides out of the room. "As for why I am not entirely sure, but I'll look into it. You'll have to go on foot."
Koneko shakes her head. "Unbelievable."
"Depending on where it is, you can make it within thirty minutes or less." Kiba supplies helpfully.
I rub the bridge of my nose. "What am I? A pizza delivery service?"
"Yes." Koneko smirks. Holy crap, she smirked! This is a day for celebration!
"Magnus, you don't want to keep the summoner waiting. Go." Rias gestures to the door.
"Right!" Running toward the door, I nearly bowled Akeno over. "Whoops, sorry, got to run!"
The older girl stops me. "Take this with you; it'll help you find the summoner." Akeno places a black device in my hands.
"I owe you one!" Without thinking, I hug her and run out the door.
(Third Person POV, Rias:)
Akeno giggles and shakes her head. "What an excitable guy."
Rias just smiles before sighing.
"He'll be fine." Akeno assures her best friend.
"Akeno's right president, plus our familiar's are watching over him. If there are any problems, we'll be right there." Kiba sits on the couch and pulls out a book.
Koneko nods and sits opposite of the blonde. "He won't encounter any problems, and it's not like he's a trouble magnet." The former nekomata is quiet for a few seconds. "We should probably follow him."
(First Person POV, Magnus:)
Panting slightly, I grip my knees. "Can't believe it… Fifteen minutes. I need to get… More power." Taking a moment to catch my breath, I slowly stand back up and knock on the apartment door. "Hello, Gremory Devil service." A few minutes go by, and… Nothing happens. Odd. I knock on the door again, and there is no answer. "Hello?" The door opens slightly, and to my surprise, there is a white guy with dark hair standing there.
"Uh… Listen, buddy, I don't know what you're doing here but-"
"Oh come on, you summoned a devil, right?" Reaching into my pocket, I pull out a flier. "You got one of these, right?"
The guy stares at the flier in confusion. "Hey, that looks like that thing Susan had-"
"Susan? As in a blonde girl who dresses like a samurai?" The guy nods again, which makes me smile. "I know her. I wouldn't say we're friends but-"
"Magnus?"
The door opens further to reveal a group of people, all sitting around a table is a group of college students. Two of them I recognized. "Susan! Horii! What are you two doing here?"
"My strange haired friend! Good evening!" Horii calls out in a jovial tone.
Susan quickly makes her way over to do the door. "I'm so sorry, Magnus; I didn't mean to summon you. I came across one of those fliers again. Though, why didn't you appear from the circle like last time?" I shrug sheepishly, and Susan turns to her friend. "Jason, he is the one that helped get Horii-san and me together."
The now named Jason smiles, but the smile was replaced by confusion. "Wait, I thought you said there was a girl as well?"
"Uh… She's somewhere else at the moment. So… I should leave since you didn't mean to 'call' me-"
"Please stay, we-we're down a player." Susan insists before gasping. "Oh, sorry, Jason, you're the DM. Can he join?"
Jason raises an eyebrow and turns to me. "Depends. You ever play D&D before?"
A wry smile appears on my face. "Are Beholder's a paranoid mess?"
"I like you, kid. Come on in."
Well, that job (while fun) was a total bust. Because Susan accidentally summoned me, I didn't get paid for the job. Rias was just happy that things went well, and said that next time I'd get the contract for sure. Anyway, the following day I was hanging out in the club room with Kiba and Koneko. Rias and Akeno were out, and since the three of us didn't have any devil jobs to do. We decided to work on our homework together and eat snacks that I bought from the school store. Which, I think, got me on Koneko's good side. Hard to tell, though, but since she is eating them, I am going to say I scored some points.
Kiba stands up and clears his throat. "I left something back in the school; I'll be right back. "Koneko and I say goodbye as our fellow devil leaves the room, continuing to work on our homework in silence until the white-haired girl huffs in annoyance.
"What's wrong, Koneko." I ask, looking up from my paper.
"Yes. I am having trouble with my English homework." Koneko's face screws up in frustration.
"Want me to take a look?"
Koneko nods and gestures for me to come over. "I'm sorry for the inconvenience." The white-haired girl mutters.
Moving around to the other side of the table, I pat Koneko on the shoulder. "Don't worry about it. English is tough, even for a native speaker. So, what's the issue?" Maybe it was a trick of the light, but I swear the small girl just smiled.
"It's the sentence. It doesn't make any sense."
I quickly look over the sentence with a frown. "Either your teacher has dyslexia or should not be teaching English as a second language." The assignment was to translate idioms from Japanese to English and provide their meanings. "Koneko… What langue do you see this?"
"Japanese. Why?"
"Looks like our devil powers are working against us." I lean back on the couch and cross arms. "We can understand all written and spoken langue, but we see things grammatically how they're written. That is an interesting piece of information to have." I can't believe I didn't notice until now. Well, it has been a busy few days. That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it.
Koneko raises an eyebrow in shock. "That's pretty smart."
"Why do you sound so surprised?" I ask with a wry smile. "I can be smart…. On occasion."
"Name one. Besides now." Koneko and I look at one another before we start laughing. Well, I laughed. Koneko smiled. Hey, a genuine smile! The two of us went back to work after that, but with a more jovial atmosphere. We worked in silence until Akeno came into the room.
"Having fun?" She cheerfully asks with her arms behind her back.
"Oodles." Rolling my eyes good-naturedly, I slowly stretch out with a yawn.
Koneko sets her pencil down. "Akeno, what's wrong?"
Akeno's expression changes from cheerful to deadly serious. "The Arch-Duke contacted us. A stray has appeared, and we have been ordered to take it out."
Akeno and Koneko didn't explain anything to me about what a stray is; they said that we need to meet up with Rias and Kiba. Once we were together, we began to track to the stray, along the way, I decided to ask Rias about what was happening.
"What's a stray devil?" I ask Rias in confusion.
"Stray devils were servants that once had masters, but they killed or escaped them—all to live according to their desires, which usually means disaster for humanity. Humans would call demons, chaotic and monstrous beings. If they appear, they must be eliminated at all costs; they are a danger to all human and devil life." As she spoke, Rias's eyes linger on Koneko for a brief moment.
"I see."
My master turns her gaze to me. "You almost had a run-in with one last year. Right before golden week, remember?"
"What are you… ?" My eyebrows shoot upward in surprise. "Wait, you mean… That thing I told you about? The blood and the scream?" As Rias nods in confirmation, my stomach lurches at the memory. "So wait, did you take care of it that night or….?"
"Someone else." Akeno answers. "Don't worry about it."
I slowly nod. "Got it."
"Magnus, a word of warning. These things are pure evil; they care for nothing but their selfish desires. Which always ends in ugliness." Kiba buckles on a white belt that has-
"Dude, why do you have a sword?" Holy crap, that thing looks cool! It seems like a long sword… Only without a hilt and the blade is blacker than night.
A small smile appears on Kiba's face. "How else do you expect me to fight?"
"That… That is a good point…" I mutter with a small frown. We're going to fight and… Kill. We eventually found the hiding spot of the stray devil, an old warehouse on the East side of town. Upon arriving, my stomach began doing flips.
Koneko covers her nose in disgust. "Blood, it's recently killed."
I sniff the air and begin to gag. This place smelt like copper and rotting carrion… Fighting the urge to vomit, I steady myself against the side of the building. I try to breathe through my mouth, but that didn't help. It made it worse. The others all look at me with sympathy.
"Here, this should help." Akeno gently pats my back.
"I don't know how a-" My nausea suddenly vanished. "-How did you do that?" I ask with a grateful look.
Akeno smiles and turns her head. "Just a little a spell."
"Thank you." I return the smile.
"Come on, you two." Rias says in a commanding tone. Akeno rubs my back and goes into the warehouse, followed by Koneko and Kiba, leaving only me and Rias outside. The crimson-haired devil motions for me to follow behind her. "Magnus, it's time you learn a bit more about devil society. More specifically, combat."
As we walk into the building, I start to look around with a frown. Kiba and Koneko were further ahead of us, with Akeno trailing behind them. I wonder what this stray devil looks like, Hannibal Lector, with horns? "Okay, lay it on me, boss lady."
"I've mentioned the devil reincarnation system before, but I never gave you the details." Rias stops walking and crosses her arms. "The system is based around chess; high-ranking devils are given fifteen chess pieces. We call them our Evil Pieces."
"Interesting name." I mutter as I look around with a frown. I wonder… Do fallen angels and regular angels have a similar system? Hey, when did the others form up around us?
"I want you to watch and learn tonight since we don't know what you're Sacred Gear does yet. You should stay with me and watch. I want you to pay close attention to how others fight." Rias commands.
With a shaky breath, I summon my Sacred Gear and look over it. "Right."
Koneko stiffens and turns to look at Rias. "It's coming."
"Now, what is that foul, fickle smell be?" A sickly sweet voice purrs. "Mm. I also smell something delicious. I wonder If it tastes sweet?" The sound bounces around the warehouse, making it almost impossible to pinpoint where it was coming from. "Tell me… Do you?" From the shadows twenty feet away from us, voluptuous woman, long black hair, sharp nails… And she is topless.
"Viser, you wretch! You betrayed your master and ran away to fulfill your lustful wants and desires. They have consumed you. Your sins are worth of a thousand hells, in the name of Gremory you will meet your death!" Rias points at the stray with a look of fury.
The stray named Viser glares at Rias with such hatred, it looked like she wanted to set her on fire. "Shut up, you little slut! You're just jealous that your breasts will never be as luscious as mine!" Viser starts to grope herself, wholly absorbed in her activity.
"That is.. Disgusting. Plus, Rias jealous of her? Please, Rias is a solid ten out of ten. This girl is a five at best." I mutter quietly with my arms crossed.
"Magnus." Rias turns to look at me with a slight flush… Oh, I guess I wasn't quiet enough.
Viser apparently heard me as well because she stopped fondling herself, and starts to snarl. Viser lurches forward, and from the shadows, a giant humanoid hand with blood-red nails appears, followed by a second. The hands are connected to massive legs and fleshy torso with a furry lion back end with a snake for a tail. The fleshy chest of the main body is connected to Viser's human half by something dark brown and furry.
"I'm going to be sick!" Whatever spell Akeno cast must be wearing off. "It's the world's ugliest centaur/chimera…"
Kiba smirks, but there was no amusement behind it. "See what I mean? It always ends in ugliness."
Viser laughs and starts to caress herself again, from her breasts a liquid shoots out toward us. Koneko, Kiba, and Akeno jump out of the way, Rias wraps her arms around me and pulls me out of the way. Good thing too. Because that liquid she fired… It was acid!
"Please be careful, Magnus." Rias turns her gaze back to Viser. "Kiba, go!" Without a word, the Prince of Kuoh grabs his sword and vanishes from sight.
"What just happened?" I ask, looking around in confusion. "Did Viser get him?"
Rias pulls me behind her. "Don't worry, Kiba is just moving extremely fast. Because devils couldn't form a large army like before, each Evil Piece has special abilities. Kiba is my knight, and his power is speed." As she spoke, the blonde appears once more, and with a swift movement, one of Viser's front legs was gone. The stray screams in pain as she falls to the ground, the leg Kiba cut off landed not that far from us.
Koneko, for some reason, strides toward Viser, the stray snarls and it's face shifted into something more monstrous. Needle-like teeth like a piranha, slit pupils, and large pointed ears. With a howl, the furry half connecting Viser's human half, to her monster body opens up, revealing serrated teeth. "Koneko no!" I shout in a panic as the mouth closes around Koneko… No…
"It's alright, Magnus." Rias says as the stray's second mouth begins to shake until it was forced open. Standing in the mouth is Koneko covered in saliva, she looked completely fine… Well, her uniform was torn in several places, but otherwise, she seems fine. "She is my rook, and as such, she possesses immense strength and incredible durability."
Climbing out of the mouth, the small girl glares at the stray devil. "See you on the flip side." Koneko punches Viser with superhuman strength; the stray is sent flying across the warehouse and into a metal support beam.
"Note to self… Don't piss her off." I say with wide eyes.
"Akeno, go ahead." Rias orders.
"My turn already? How exciting." Akeno starts giggling as she walks toward Viser.
I wonder what Akeno is going to do? What Evil Piece is she? Wait, what is that-" Rias, look out!" Pushing the crimson-haired girl out of the way, I raise my left arm as the leg Kiba cut off of Viser came toward us. Come on; Sacred Gear do something! Give me power or something! As I punch the claw-like arm-leg, my body filled with energy. It was like an adrenaline rush, a sugar rush, and a runner's high. "Boost!" A green glow erupts from the Sacred Gear, and the limb went limp.
"I… Thank you, Magnus." Rias says with wide eyes.
Holding out my hand, I help the crimson-haired teen to her feet. "No problem… I'm sorry about pushing you down."
"Don't worry about it." Rias brushes herself off. "Akeno, do it."
A creepy smile appears on the black-haired girl's face. "I have some news for you; you're not the only one that likes to play rough. Let's have some fun." Lifting her hands, electricity dances between her fingers. Lightning flies from her hands and strikes Viser; a blood-curdling roar fills the warehouse.
"Akeno is my queen piece. Her attributes are a perfect mix of all the other pieces."
The stray devil growls at Akeno, which seems to amuse the older girl. "Tough girl. Not ready to give up yet? Goodie, I get to play some more!" More lightning strikes the stray devil, which causes Akeno to moan. "This is so hot." Licking her lips, Akeno strikes Viser again and again with a blush. "Is it as good for me as it is for you?"
"She's also really into S&M." Rias comments offhandedly.
My jaw drops in shock. "I… I…" I have no idea whether to find this hot or not. "… No comment."
"Akeno, that's enough." Rias sighs and shakes her head.
Ceasing the onslaught of lightning, Akeno sighs in displeasure. "Awe, already? I was just starting to enjoy myself."
Rias strides toward the half-dead stray devil. "Any last words before we finish this?"
"Go to hell." Viser coughs up some blood as she stares up at Rias.
"Ironic choice of words." I muttered, crossing my arms.
Red/black energy surrounds Rias's body. "Very well." The energy envelopes the stray devil, causing a massive explosion. As the dust cleared away, Viser's body was now gone. Including the arm-leg that I hit. "We're done. Let's go home." Rias smiles and heads for the exit, as we follow our master.
I remove my blazer and wrap it around Koneko's shoulders. "Here, you'll need this if you don't want to be arrested for incident exposure."
"Thanks."
"No problem." As we got outside the warehouse, something occurred to me. "Hey… What am I?" Everyone stops to look at me in confusion. "I mean Evil Piece. It would be nice to know where I fit in, so I can pull my weight."
"You're a pawn." Rias answers with a small smile. "My only pawn."
Oh… "Cool. I think." There goes any chance of me bench-pressing cars or running faster then the human eye could see. My fellow devils just chuckle at my reaction. "What?"
Akeno pats my arm. "Don't worry, when you're strong enough, you'll find out."
"True, for now, I think we should celebrate." Kiba smiles. "I think we found out what your Sacred Gear does; it seems like a support type that can boost your power. How did you do that?"
"I don't know. I just… " I look at my Sacred Gear with a thoughtful expression. "I just thought needing power and…. It came to me."
Rias turns to me. "We'll have to look into this further, but for now, let's go."
Author's Notes:
Hey guys, how are you doing? I know it has been a while but I am trying to get back into the swing of things. So, I apologize for being gone for so long. First I just want to say, thank you everyone for faving and following my stories. It means a lot. Seriously. Now, onto your questions and reviews.
AdrianLee28: Thank you, and to answer your question I plan on re-writing the entire thing. But the original will be updated as I finish each volume.
Streetlife34: I plan on following both as the story mandates. Though I am adding the Extra stuff from the side stories.
Gamerman22: I'm sorry D: I am glad you like original, but I promise this re-write will be just as good. Maybe even better. Time will tell.
Kamen Rider W: Thank you very much and I'm going to explain her behavior change. Give it time.
I hope to see you guys in the next chapter... Which I am working on right now.
