(Present Time)
It was a warm evening that day in Ba Sing Se. Not only that, the sunset was gorgeous. The sky was a mix of orange, red and yellow colors. It almost looked like someone had smeared the colors all over the sky.
In the upper ring, beside the Jasmine Dragon, was a large group of people. They were all dressed in dark colors and faced a man who stood in front of them.
"Um, Hello everyone. My name is Zuko, I-Iroh's nephew," he told the crowd standing in front of him. The Firelord had tears running down his face as he clutched a small book in his hand. "I suppose we will get started," he cleared his throat and wiped the tears off his face. "Uncle Iroh was caring, loving, and wise. He cared about everyone and was always happy to share tea and advice. During my teenage years, he took care of me and helped guide me. Even after I... betrayed him, he welcomed me back with open arms," Zuko paused, looking at the crowd. He suddenly felt warm and like he was about to crack. "I'm sorry, I can't continue speaking," Zuko's voice cracked as he stepped away from the small stage.
Immediately people whispered throughout the crowd, unsure what to do. Zuko was supposed to lead the funeral for he had planned it. Unfortunately, the emotions were too much for him and he couldn't continue. Then, Sokka rose from the crowd, standing up out of his seat. He made his way to the small stage, nothing in hand.
"Good Evening. I'm Sokka, Chief of the Southern Water Tribe," he spoke aloud to the crowd. Before the funeral had started, Zuko went over his plans with the Gaang. "We will be moving on to the burial. Per Iroh's request, he will be buried by a forest that holds spiritual energy," Sokka continued. "If you all would follow me and Fire Lord Zuko," he called out, motioning Zuko to come on.
"Thanks buddy," Zuko mumbled to Sokka once he reached his side. The pair waited as the crowd stood up and gathered any of their belongings. Many brought flowers, some brought notes, and some brought tea bags. Once it was implied the crowd was ready, the pair began waking. Iroh's burial site wasn't very far, only about a minutes walk away from the ceremony. Once they stopped, Zuko turned to face the crowd. "My uncle has already been burried. You are all welcome to pay your respects and leave your gifts," he paused, making sure nobody had questions. "I thank you all for coming, it means a lot to me. If anyone is interested, the Jasmine Dragon is open till 9pm today. We have a off discount." he announced before moving out of the way.
Sokka and Zuko stood off to the side, watching as Iroh's friends mumbled words to the gravestone and left a small gift. After Aang and Katara went through they stood with Zuko and Sokka.
"Where's Suki?" Aang whispered to Sokka, his eyes scanning for the Kyoshi Warrior.
"She couldn't make it, she had some sort of duty with Kyoshi Island," Sokka replied to the Avatar.
It had been about 15 or 20 minutes until the crowd was down to only one person. The last person was Toph. She was dressed in black dress with a hint of green. Her eyes were puffy and her cheeks were red. Small tears ran down her face. The blind earth bender approached the grave and mumbled a few words. She finished and turned towards her friends.
"Toph, are you staying the night here? Everyone else is," Katara broke the silence, stepping towards Toph.
"I suppose so, it's late and i'm tired," she replied, her voice was soft and quiet. Toph had frequently visited Iroh in his tea shop. Ever since the war ended, the two had been quite close. She found comfort in talking with him and she enjoyed his presence.
"Alright, well I'll show y'all to the extra house. I had one of Iroh's helpers make dinner. It should be ready," Zuko said.
The group of friends arrived at the house, bags in their hands. The group had been invited by Zuko to stay the night in Iroh's 2nd home. There were plenty of rooms for everyone to stay in.
"Well, this is it!" Zuko announced, putting his hands in the air as they stood in front of a rather large house. It was white with golden rims around the door and windows.
"I can smell the food from here! It smells delicious!" Sokka called out, trying to peak into the windows.
"Oh Sokka stop! You're so nosy," Katara complained as Zuko led them into the house.
Sokka wasn't wrong though. The front door immediately opened up to the kitchen, sending a wave of delicious smells. There was a variety of scents; meat, noodles, soup, there was something for everyone to like. In the middle of the room was the food. It sat on a brown table with a green table runner. Around the table were enough seats for everyone, as well as plates and cups.
"Good evening everyone, my name is Gati. I will be assisting you all today, just as I did to Iroh," announced a voice from another doorway announced. Across the kitchen was a tall man, standing by a door. He was dressed in a green robe with a brown apron. His hair was brown and he presented a warm smile to the group.
"Thank you Gati," replied the Fire Lord. "We just need drinks and then you may take the night off."
The Gaang quickly took their seats, eager to eat. Gati went around and took everyone's drink orders. While they waited for their drinks, they dug into the food. Gati returned shortly with the drinks the group had asked for. He took off after, returning home to his family. The food didn't last long and it was awfully quiet. Everyone was too busy digging into the delicious food.
"So," Zuko spoke up, wiping his mouth with a napkin. "Your rooms are down the hall, ive put papers with your name on each door. Toph, your room is the first door on the left," Zuko explained in case someone was ready for bed.
The only thing left at the table was desert, a small cake. It was quickly eaten, mostly by Sokka. One by one everyone left the table to head to bed. First was Zuko, then Aang and Katara who was followed by Sokka.
Sokka didn't have to go far down the hall, his was the first on the right, across from Toph. He opened the door to a small room which had a bed, a dresser and a closet. The bedspread was a gray and white pattern. Around the bed was a light blue rug. In the corner was a door that led to a personal bathroom.
"Hmm, this is nice," Sokka mumbled to himself as he placed his water tribe bag by his bed. Sokka then removed his brown shoes, tossing them by his bag. The blue rug was soft against his toes and reminded him of Appa, only softer. With a sigh, the watertribes man took off his nice, dark clothes. He rummaged through his bag for his blue tshirt and black shorts. Sokka took out the clothes from his bag and placed them on the bed before heading into the bathroom for a nice, long shower.
He was running his hands through his hair, washing it when suddenly he heard someone speak up from the bathroom door.
"Sokka?"
