Chapter 5 – Heartbeats?

Summary: Pepper's pregnant but Peter realizes there's something about it…

Pepper smiled to herself as she glanced at the stick in her hand. She was finally pregnant! There was so much joy thrumming through her veins. Such an overwhelming amount of joy, she had not felt since their wedding day. Since Peter. She was going to have a baby, after all this time, she was going to be a mom. Pepper stopped herself them guilt taking it's place, she was a mother, even though it wasn't by blood, she was Peter's mom in everyway that mattered Family by bond not by blood, she reminded herself. Still, this was big, this was Tony's and Pepper's baby. No doubt about it, so when her three favourite boys got home she didn't hesitate to tell them.

"Hi Pep" Tony said, coming in through the door first his lips finding purchase on her's.

"Hi mom!" Peter said next give Pepper a small side hug. She smiled and guided them over to the couch where a plate of snacks sat. So…maybe she'd had a bit of free time. Okay a lot. She'd gone out to the store and gotten 2 baby onesies. They were both mint green, because it was a gender neutral color. One of them said, Best Dad Ever, and the other said, I Have the Best Big Brother. The bag was light blue, the stick was in there as well wrapped in white tissue paper.

"What's the occasion?" Tony asked sitting on the couch next to his wife. He rested an arm on top of her shoulders and Pepper smiled. She'd never get tired of her husbands loving touch. She could practically feel the love radiating off his person.

"Open the gift" She said simply. Smiling to herself as Tony reached cautiously across to the table. The bag sat in his lap Peter next to him curiosity evident on his face.

"What is it" He asked excitedly making the older woman laugh. Pepper loved watching them happy and excited opening gifts.

"it's not a bomb, don't worry" She added sarcastically as Tony pulled out the wrapping paper blob. Unwrapping it gently eyes bulging when he saw it was a positive pregnancy test. His face drained of color along with Peter's. Pepper bit her lip and felt her stomach drop until Tony picked her up bridal style and spinning her around.

"We're having a baby!" He shouted gleefully together they laughed, their giggles merging into one, and their smiles brighter than the sun. Happy grunted but a wide smile was on his face ruining his careless composure.

Peter did not hesitate to give Pepper a huge bear hug, his eyes wet with tears of happiness. "Keep opening it" She encouraged pointing to the bag. Peter smiled going for the gift this time and handing the tissue paper clump that read Tony on it to well, Tony, and kept the one with his name on it. Together they unraveled the item of clothing, eyes getting wider if possible. The two hugged her again faces wide with grins.

"Congratulations!" They said to her even Happy shuffled over to her, muttering his congratulations and a small side hug. It's the best I'm going to get from him she thought amused.

"Thank you guys" She said still smiling. Her boys returned it each with smiles on their faces. They were all imagining what it would be like with a baby in the house. Pepper could barely hold back a cringe until Peter's head tilted to the side unsure. Pepper glanced at him worry evident in her face.

"I um" A slight hesitation, "Hear something?"

Pepper's head shot towards him eyes ablaze with concern her hand flying to her womb. "what's wrong, is it ok?"

Peter smiled then. "I think they're going to be just fine"

Pepper, and Tony's eyes widened like saucers. "They?" She whispered. Her voice full of wonder and love.

"it's probably too soon, but I hear two heartbeats" Peter admitted giving a Pepper a small unsure grin. "Are you happy or sad, I can't really read the mood right now"

Pepper gave a wet laugh eyes sparkling as she turned to Tony, "I'm amazing"
