Chapter 7 – Savior
12/20/2020
Peter had looked this work up in the dictionary multiple times, every time since the Stark Expo many ions ago. It read as followed.
Savior-
a person who saves someone or something (especially a country or cause) from danger, and who is regarded with the veneration of a religious figure.
When Peter thought of these words, of this word. The first thoughts that filled his mind were the Avengers, but then the airport happened, and then the harm that came to his mentor, and then the 5 year time where Tony had a life. Now when he thought of Savior, he thought of his dad, of his mom, of his aunt, and Ned, who all had his back even without their super powers, and vowed to be a hero to them too.
"Peter?" It was a voice. It sounded far away, yet strikingly familiar.
"Dad?" He mumbled barely even aware of doing it.
"I'm right here" His dad said, but that wasn't right because his dad had died in a plane accident, and Peter couldn't be dead? He moved his leg, a burning pain shot through it, Yep, not dead. He pealed his eyes open the light was blinding. "F.R.I.D.A.Y, lights at 15 percent"
Peter tried again this time his eyes adjusted nicely noting the person next to him. Right, Tony. He was slightly embarrassed of the immediate correspondent to Tony and a dad. Who was going to have an actual dad. "Hi"
"Hi? You got shot in the calf, without your suit on by the way, and all you have to say is hi?" Tony scoffed. Mock anger coating his face, but also a proud glint in his eye, that made Peter's stomach do flips. He'd made Tony proud.
"Sorry" Peter murmured. Tony's smiled softly.
"No need, Peter, you did good" Tony said still smiling patting Peter's leg before pulling himself up onto his legs. "There's something I need to talk to you about though."
"What, what's wrong?" Peter shot up in bed.
"Ned's dad has Covid, he's in the hospital and not doing very well" Tony admitted fidgeting with his hands. Peter gasped at the nightmarish news. He couldn't imagine was Ned must be going through right now.
"I- What can we do" Peter said shooting right to the point, eyes crinkled with worry. Tony gave a sympathetic smile.
"Unfortunately nothing. I was thinking however that perhaps, you me and Bruce would work in the lab today, and look for a cure" Tony said waving Bruce in. Bruce was different bulky, and green but still Bruce-ish. Professor Hulk Peter remembered from the battle.
"hi!" Peter greeted hopping out of bed despite the soreness in his leg, his super healing had mended the most of it. "Tony said we could look for a cure"
Bruce glanced uneasily at the billionaire. "We've been looking" He said slowly gauging the teens reaction. He, himself had heard the news about Peter's good friend, "But we haven't come up with anything"
"I can tell" Peter said matter-of-factly, "If you'd found something you wouldn't need my help. Now where should we start"
That's how the rest of their Sunday went. Looking through formulas. Peters head was still running wild thinking of Ned's father though. If the science bros could find a cure, he could barely imagine the lives they could save.
"I think that's it for the night" Tony cut through their thoughts. Peter's head shot towards Tony's eyes tired despite the 5 cups of coffee laid out in front of him. "I'm a bit out of practice with the whole all nighter thing"
Peter nodded in understanding. Pepper had explained, when Peter was blipped back-that still sounded weird-that Tony had worked on self health, and that meant getting enough sleep. "Ok" Peter and Hulk sighed putting down their utensils and heading towards the main room.
Hulk hesitated, "If its worth anything, I'm really sorry about your friend" He said. Peter gave a warm smile to the larger green man.
"It's okay, we'll figure it out" Peter said. Besides, he had hope that they'd be the savior of this timeline. Of their world, of their new challenge. They had the brains, the knowledge, and the materials to end this whole thing, and dear lord if they hadn't been working they sure would now. It was more than just a few people now. It was so much more than that.
A/N: Hi! So I'm moving it up because I realized I accidentally did an extra day and so I skipped a day so the 12th day of Christmas would actually fall on Christmas, and I am trying to write an original story so here's a preview of Epidemic to Pandemic: A world Turned Upside down All rights reserved.
