"Lately, the people have been taking a bleaker outlook...
Callin' that winged circle the 'Angel of Death'.
A harbinger of destruction, waitin' to 'free' us from this mortal realm…"
-Gerson 201X
But why did it end up this way? He said it was a recent mentality, so did something happen? And what of the monsters that could seriously fight the human? Most if not all of them seem too easy to turn around despite this being the general mindset of the people. What if there was a human who caused this to happen? What if there was someone, heralded as an angel, that left the monsters with no choice but to reevaluate their prophecy and yet somehow kept the truly innocent alive?
Mt. Ebott 200X
"Boots, that's far enough! I said we could look for dad, I didn't say we could end up like him." A teenage boy is chasing a young girl as they climb up the mountain, trying to get her to come down. "Don't be like that, Gregor! He's not dead, I'll show you!" She says, before stopping. Gregor runs over to Boots to see a giant hole in the ground right in front of her, which she then jumps down. "Da- darn it!" Through sheer Determination, and with a boost of adrenaline, Gregor jumps in the hole and then throws her towards the surface in an incredible show of strength.
For a moment it seemed he had sacrificed himself to save her, but it was all for naught as something impossible happened. As if there was some barrier there preventing anything from leaving what's below she bounced off of an invisible force before plummeting into the underground. "I can't… save anyone after all." Gregor thinks, as he closes his eyes for what he believes to be his inevitable fate.
But it was not to be as giant vines come out of the walls to catch the two children and set them down on a flower patch. "T-thanks!" Boots yells out. "Of course. Now allow me to introduce myself:" The two children turn their attention to the source of the voice. A talking flower, holding a leaf up to what looks like a mouth like it's clearing its throat. "Howdy! I'm FLOWEY. FLOWEY the FLOWER! Hmmm... Y'all're new to the UNDERGROUND, aren't ya? Golly, you must be so confused. Someone ought to teach you how things work around here! I guess little old me will have to do. Ready? Here we go!"
A strange darkness fills the room. No, not darkness. Focus. Focus on a scarce few things, merely the walls and those in the room. But what's even weirder is the light coming from each of the children's chests in the shape of a heart, green for Boots and red for Gregor. "See that heart? That is your SOUL, the very culmination of your being! Your SOUL starts off weak, but can grow strong if you gain a lot of LV. What's LV stand for? Why, LOVE, of course! You want some LOVE, don't you? Don't worry, I'll share some with you!" Several spinning white objects appear in the air. Boots starts staring at one intently from a very close distance as Flowey continues talking…
"Down here, LOVE is shared through... little white... 'friendliness pellets.' Are you ready? I'll let you have them… now!" The one right by Boots goes flying towards that green heart, giving Gregor a really bad feeling. He throws a rock at the "friendliness pellet' but it bounces right off and the pellet pierces her green heart.
Flowey begins laughing maniacally. "Hahahaha that idiot. I should use that one next time!" It then turns to Gregor, only to see his fist colliding with the closest thing they have to a face and gets sent back several yards. "Margaret's only 7, and if you want to pick on my sister you'll have to get through me!" Flowey takes on a mockingly cute appearance as more 'friendliness pellets' appear in the air. "Aww what a cute sibling bond. Really kept her safe didn't it." Gregor's brown eyes turn red upon hearing that and he catches a pellet flying towards him as Flowey laughs. He throws it (along with a few drops of blood) back at another pellet flying towards him, running towards Flowey as more and more pellets scratch him even as he tries to avoid them. He reaches for the demonic flower's stem in an attempt to uproot it but right before he can touch it he feels a vine trapping his leg and falls to the ground.
"Damn it!" Flowey wraps Gregor up in vines then leans in close and says "Normally, I'd say 'remember kid, it's kill or be killed in here' but you aren't going to live long enough for it to matter." Gregor closes his eyes as Flowey moves back and summons a ring of pellets around Gregor and slowly moves them closer to him. A second later Gregor hears a yelp and opens his now-brown eyes open to see a goatlike woman running towards him yelling something before slipping into unconsciousness.
A/N: Hello and welcome to my first series, a prequel to Undertale with several cast members from Gregor the Overlander/The Underland Chronicles! Please keep in mind that while I'm doing my best to uphold both canons, I will have to make concessions so don't expect it to be fully accurate to either. One example is the fact I aged up both of our protagonists and gave them a last name.
I do not own Gregor the Overlander or Undertale, they belong to Suzanne Collins and Toby Fox respectively.
