Courtney rolled out of bed with a smile on her face as she began to smell cinnamon rolls and pancakes on Christmas morning. She looked over to the right, noticing straight away that her long-time boyfriend, Duncan, had been missing from their shared bed. She then turned to her phone on the right of her, smiling at the wallpaper of the two of them at a recent anniversary dinner, then checked the time - 9 am. She pushed her slippers onto her feet and wore her robe over her silk pajamas as she shuffled into the kitchen. She watched Duncan put the finishing touches on their breakfast, and smiled at the presents that lied underneath their Christmas tree. It was their first Christmas living together, so Courtney went all out on decking the tree.
"Merry Christmas, Princess." She smiled as she walked into his arms, and he gave her a kiss on the top of her head as she nuzzled into his chest.
"Merry Christmas." She said as she let go. She smiled as she began arranging her breakfast onto her plate, then took a bite of her bacon as Duncan didn't move a muscle. "What's up? I know that face."
"I have a gift for you that can't be wrapped." He began to walk over to the door, and then opened it to reveal three girls - her mother and two sisters. She nearly choked on her bacon as she stood up to see them, tears pooling in her eyes as she ran up to hug them.
"Mom! Kristen! Sami!" She screamed as she hugged them. Sami was the youngest of the family, only sixteen years old, and had pink dyed hair that went past her shoulders. Kristin was Courtney's twin, younger than her by 10 minutes. The two looked exactly alike, except she had started to dye her hair blonde after she had been mistaken for Courtney too many times. They all had the same freckles over their nose, and the same brown eyes as each other. Courtney's mom had a hint of grey hairs around her roots and had wrinkles around her mouth.
"What are you doing here? I thought you all couldn't make it."
"We weren't going to miss Christmas, are you kidding?" Courtney's mom told her. Courtney and Duncan had moved away when she got her dream job after law school, which meant moving over five hours away from where she grew up and where her sisters resided. When they all said they couldn't make it, she was crushed.
"Plus, Duncan told us there would be an amazing surprise that we'd want to see!" Kristen said. Courtney turned over to Duncan, blushing as she thought of what was about to happen next. He began to go on one knee and took out a ring box from his pocket, which made Courtney nearly fall over. Her sisters backed away, and her mom began to cry silently.
"Court, I love you. I love you so much that I'm proposing to you in my flannel pajamas. We've gone through so much over the years, like our relationship failing multiple times on reality television until we grew up and realized what we needed in life in order to be good for each other. So, will you marry me?" She began to cry tears of joy as she reached her hand out to him.
"Yes, one thousand times yes!" He put her ring on her finger, and she noticed the shine of it as she showed her sisters and mother. It was a minimalistic ring, just like she had wanted. The band was tiny as well as the rock on the ring. The two began to get up, hugging one another and the girls congratulating both of them. They believed the good news had ended, so the girls began to dig into the food Duncan had laid out for everyone.
"Wait, I have one more thing. I had no idea anyone would be here, I was planning on telling you all in person after New Years. But I guess I might as well tell you." Duncan looked stumped, as he didn't even realize what was going on. Courtney ran to the tree and grabbed a rectangle-shaped box from underneath the tree and gave it to Duncan to open. With a confused look on his face, everyone began to sit down at their small dining room table, wondering what was in the box. He opened it excited but cautiously, then nearly dropped the box onto the floor as he read what the present inside the box had said.
"Oh my god. You're joking." He exclaimed. She smiled, hoping he was saying that because he was excited. "I'm going to be-"
"Show them what's in the box." Courtney bossed. He turned the piece of clothing around, revealing it to be a onesie that said 'Baby Rose-Menton: Arriving August'. Her mother looked at her, beginning to cry as she hugged her. Kristin was smiling, but began to count on her fingers, then looked to the two of them.
"Wait, so the baby was conceived in November… does that mean…"
"Yes, our baby was conceived in your guest room." Courtney laughed.
"Ewwwww." Sami exclaimed.
"I am so happy for you. Congratulations!" Kristen said, hugging the newly-engaged couple.
"Even if you did commit sin." Sami joked. Her mother had given her a playful slap on the arm.
"Samantha! Manners." Her mother exclaimed. The girls had been raised in a Christian household, which was why Courtney had been nervous that her mother would be here for her initial reveal to Duncan, but she hoped the engagement outweighed her negative emotion towards sex before marriage.
"But you are going to get married before the baby comes, are you?" Her mother said, wiggling her eyebrows. Courtney began to feel nervous in her mother's presence.
"We can talk about that later." She laughed nervously. "For now, I just want to enjoy the time we have together. And eat this bacon. I am eating for two. Duncan began kissing Courtney, holding onto her waist as the couple became future newlyweds and future parents.
"Yeah, seriously, let's eat! I didn't make all this for nothing, you know!" Duncan exclaimed. He began to get extra plates as Courtney started to dig into her meal. As everyone gathered to eat at the table, Courtney looked over to her engagement ring and smiled to Duncan while the sisters and her mother were pre-occupied.
"I was beginning to run out of clothes. I didn't think I'd make it till Christmas." She told him.
"That would explain why you've been getting sick every other morning."
"It was a Christmas miracle that the smell of food didn't make me nauseous today." She giggled as she took another bite of her food, then took her free hand into his. "Merry Christmas, Duncan." He smiled to her as she kissed the hand that held her engagement ring.
"Merry Christmas, Princess. And to our little one on the way, too."
A/N: Hello!
This was a re-write of a Fanfiction I wrote in 2010 called "Christmas Surprises". At the time, I had two OCs for Courtney - Kristin and Sami. Sami was based on me and was also in my good friend Kati's Youtube show, TDLIAC. This was a submission for TD Writers Month, week 3, hosted on the Total Drama Writers discord. The prompt I chose was to re-write one of my old oneshots. I chose this one because of the Christmas spirit! We have two weeks left of the writers month, and we will be doing more writing games, challenges, and weeks, so please message me for the link to join the Discord!
I hope everyone has a happy holiday season! I will be updating both Total Drama Arts and The New Noah before the new year!
~Sami
