Only Friend

Authors note: Hiiiii. Welcome to my shitty story! This is completely inspired by the music album Nothing Happens by Wallows and each chapter will be dedicated to a specific song from the album. I'm gonna quote each song like crazy in each chapter so let me know how many references you pick up on. This whole album just radiates KiriBaku vibes and the song for this chapter is low-key their theme song in cannon lol. I would recommend listening to the album with this story because not only will it make this a lot more fun to read, it's also just a good fuckin album. Lemme know is there are any typos to fix and please feel free to leave a review. Have fun lol!

Quiet. That wasn't usually a word Kirishima would use to describe Bakugo, but it was the only one coming to mind at the moment. He glanced up at his friend who was standing just out of earshot talking on the phone. After him, Yaoyorozu, Todoroki, Iida, and Midoriya had gotten Bakugo back from Camino Ward earlier that night he had been nothing but quiet, which was to be expected given everything he must have gone through in the past few days. Kirishima bit his lip anxiously and looked over at Bakugo again. Everything about him screamed terrified, his body language, his facial expression, hell, even the way he was standing. Kirishima wished he could do something to help, but god knows Bakugo was far too proud to admit he was freaked out. It just wasn't healthy, the way he dealt with his emotions. It startled Kirishima how easily he could turn off his fear or worry and push it deep down. He wished Bakugo had someone he could confide in and talk to about all this shit, but again, Bakugo was too damn proud to ever confide in someone else about his emotions.

Bakugo hung up the phone and walked back over to Kirishima, shoving the phone at him. His hands were shaking. Sucking in a deep breath and balling his trembling hands into tight fists, Bakugo gave Kirishima a small nod.

"Let's go," he said, barely above a whisper and with a tremor in his voice. Kirishima looked at him worriedly but nodded.

After the fight with All For One had ended, the group tried to fight their way through the crowd to make it to a train to get back to their respective homes. Somewhere along the way, they had all gotten separated with Iida and Yaoyorozu being together, Todaroki and Midoriya being together, and Kirishima and Bakugo being together. With all the chaos of the night, by the time Bakugo and Kirishima had made it to a train station all the trains had been delayed till the next day. Both Kirishima and Bakugo lived miles away from where they currently were so walking was out of the question, this meant they would have to find some cheap hotel to crash in for the night before going back home. Kirishima had lent Bakugo his phone to call his mom and let her know that he was fine (Kirishima wasn't buying that for a second) and that he couldn't come home that night.

The two began to make their way down the sidewalk in silence, keeping a lookout for anywhere they could sleep for the night. Kirishima kept shooting nervous looks at Bakugo. Damn, he must have been in shock before because now he looked ten times worse. His whole body was shaking violently and he had his hands clenched into fists so tightly Kirishima could swear he saw blood from where Bakugo's nails dug into his palms.

"Hey Bakugo I know a lot just happened," Kirishima tried to ask quietly, "So if you just need to ge-"

"Shut up shitty hair, I'm fuckin' fine," Bakugo interrupted. There was no real bite to his words and, in fact, his voice shook horribly when he spoke. Bakugo shut his eyes and his mouth quivered for a moment before he regained composure and quickly faced away from Kirishima.

Bakugo wasn't an idiot. He obviously knew that Kirishima could tell just how freaked out he was, but he still refused to give in and let his emotions show. This couldn't be healthy...

All of the sudden, a loud car horn cut through Kirishima's thoughts. He jumped a little as it passed but nothing more. Bakugo, on the other hand, let out an audible gasp and lept back from the sound as fast as he could. It was almost like he had no control over what his body did.

"Bakugo..." Kirishima breathed

"Shut up, shut up, I know just...shut up," Bakugo murmured through gritted teeth, his hands tugging at his hair anxiously. His breath was coming out in quick gasps now. Kirishima knew he had to find a place for them to stay soon or Bakugo was going to have a breakdown right here on the street. A person could only keep their emotions down for so long, after all.

"Hey, why don't we go in here?" Kirishima asked pointing to a building with a sign advertising a hotel. All Bakugo could do was nod. Kirishima started to walk along the sidewalk towards the building but Bakugo just stood still.

"Come on it's this way," Kirishima called to Bakugo, walking back towards him. Bakugo nodded again but didn't move. His shaking had, somehow, gotten even worse and it didn't even look like Bakugo was capable of speaking anymore.

"Hey, it's alright let's just get you inside ok," Kirishima grabbed Bakugo's hand and led him towards the hotel. Bakugo didn't even protest, he just allowed Kirishima to take his hand.

They checked in quickly and got one of the last few available rooms. It was small with two twin beds and a tiny bathroom. Kirishima calmly guided Bakugo over to one of the beds where he sort of half fell half sat done and looked down at his feet.

I can't stand to see him like this anymore, Kirishima thought, I've gotta try to get him to talk to me, hell maybe talking about it will help him process everything.

Kirishima quietly took a seat on the bed next to Bakugo.

"Ok look", Kirishima took a deep breath, "I know talking about shit isn't your thing at all, but dude your totally panicking."

Bakugo shut his eyes. Kirishima kept going.

"Maybe if...maybe if you try to talk it out, you can prosses everything that's happened, cause' god knows you've been through hell and back"

Bakugo balled his hands into tight fists.

"Please just try, just talk to me," Kirishima felt his voice crack slightly as he finished speaking. He could see the pain on Bakugo's face and it was killing him. Bakugo looked up at him but remained silent.

Kirishima looked at him sadly. "Please please please Baku, Kirishima begged, I just want to help you, I can't stand to see you like this anymore plea-"

"I WAS FUCKING WORRIED ABOUT YOU!" Bakugo yelled, interrupting Kirishima. That stoped Kirishima's rambling dead in its tracks. Bakugo gave a dry laugh and turned to look away from Kirishima.

"There, are you happy now? I was fucking worried about you shitty hair, there I said it."

"I-I," Kirishima stuttered out, "I don't understand...why were you worried about me?"

"BECAUSE DUMBASS, YOU COULD'VE BEEN KILLED!" Bakugo abruptly stood up from the bed and walked across the room facing away from Kirishima. He was practically fuming now and Kirishima couldn't believe what he was hearing.

Bakugo was...worried about me? But why? I should be the one freaking out about him almost getting killed.

"YOU RISKED YOUR LIFE FOR ME...you risked your life for me..." Bakugo's voice cracked and he slowly turned around to face Kirishima. His eyes were watering and he was shaking again.

His flame is dying down, Kirishima realized.

"You're my only friend..." Bakugo choked out, barely above a whisper.

All Kirishima could do was stare in shock.

"Do you realize how much I trust you? I put my life in your hands tonight and, let me tell you, I didn't even think twice about it. I didn't hesitate for a damn moment because I know I could trust you." Bakugo walked back over to the bed and sat back down.

"And if you had gotten hurt, fuck, if you had gotten killed...I would never have forgiven myself,"

"Baku, I don't know what to say-" Kirishima started, only to be interrupted by Bakugo again.

"No you said to talk, so I'm fucking talking," Kirishima snapped his mouth shut and nodded. Bakugo appeared to be saying anything that came to his mind at this point.

"No matter what, no matter how much of an ass I was, you never stopped trying to be close to me. I pushed away everyone else excep fort you, I guess you were just too damn stubborn. Sometimes I wish you would have just given up on me and I could be alone, but most other times Kiri I guess...I guess...I only need a friend."

Bakugo was crying now. He was full-on crying and Kirishima felt tears of his own trail down his cheeks. He had never seen Bakugo this emotional and it meant the world to Kirishima to know that Bakugo trusted him enough to say all those things to him out loud. He was just so damn happy that Bakugo knew he wasn't alone and that Kirishima truly cared for him wholeheartedly.

Kirishima whipped the tears from his cheeks and threw his arms around Bakugo and held him as he cried. They sat like that for what felt like hours, with Kirishima rubbing Bakugo's back and whispering comforting words in his ear and Bakugo clutching onto Kirisima's shirt like he was drowning with his head buried in the crook of Kirishima's neck.

Eventually, Bakugo pulled back away from Kirishima and whispered, "thank you." Kirishima just smiled. He knew what Bakugo meant. That thank you wasn't just for that night, but for everything Kirishima had ever done for Bakugo. He always understood what Bakugo meant and the true meaning behind his words or, sometimes, lack-there-of.

They didn't talk much for the rest of the night. They sat together on the same bed and, eventually fell asleep wrapped up in each others' arms.

The next morning they both woke up bright and early to, hopefully, catch a train back to their respective neighborhoods. Kirishima gave Bakugo a smile when he woke up and Bakugo smiled back.

"Did you sleep alright?" Kirishima asked.

"Yeah, alright I guess," Bakugo said.

They got ready in silence and checked out of the hotel in silence. It wasn't exactly an awkward silence but they both could definitely feel something hanging in the air between them. It was almost like a magnetic charge, pulling the two of them together. Undoubtedly, Bakugo and Kirishima's relationship had changed and they both could tell, what that meant neither of them knew. But what they did know was that they sure as hell understood each other better and they sure as hell were a little bit closer now.

Ayyyy we got chapter one done! Next week is my finals week for school so I have no clue if I will get a chance to update but imma try lol.
