Chapter 2

Aang woke up early in the morning before anyone else. He looked out onto the sunrise.

"I want to do something special with Katara," he thought.

Everyone was waking up, one by one. He waited for Katara as she liked to sleep in.

"Hey Aang," Katara said kissing him on the cheek.

"I-" Aang started.

"I have to go get ready," she said, not hearing Aang.

"Okay," he said looking down.

Ten minutes had gone by, she was taking a while. He decided to walk up to her door. Aang wanted to take action, but he was too nervous to knock. Just as he gained enough confidence Katara opened the door.

"Woah, Aang. You startled me," she said.

"I.. um-I... um," Aang started, still too nervous to ask.

He shook his head shaking away his anxiety. "So... I was wondering if you wanted to go hang out. Maybe a walk or something, maybe a little picnic," he said with confidence.

"Of course!" she exclaimed. "Why are you still so nervous about this stuff? It's been a week since we started dating."

"Every day with you is exciting and brand-new, I can't help it."

"Aww, Aang."

She kissed him on the cheek and grabbed his arm tugging him to the door.

"Where do you think you're going?" Sokka asked.

Katara rolled her eyes. "We're going out."

"This early? And who even said you two could-"

Before Sokka could finish his sentence, the two lovers ran out the door. Aang and Katara could hear a muffled "HEY" coming from inside the hut. They both snickered.

The couple walked outside of the village. They found Appa sleeping there.

"So, where are you taking me?" Katara asked, still giggling a little bit.

"It's a surprise, but you'll know it when we see it," he said, smiling at her.

They woke Appa and climbed aboard his saddle. They sat on his head and they started to leave the village.

A few minutes went by and they started nearing their destination.

"Oh Aang, it couldn't be."

"It is," Aang said.

"This is the iceberg where we first met," she said.

The iceberg was almost the same as how they left it, but small chunks of ice were floating around it, and it was noticeably smaller.

"How did you find it?" she asked.

"You really think that I could forget the place where I first met you?" he grinned.

She smiled and gave him a gentle kiss on the lips.

"Hey, let's do a little re-enactment," he said.

Katara shrugged. "Okay."

He laid down on the ice and she held him in her arms just like they did a year ago.

"I need to ask you something," he mumbled.

He was trying to put on a serious face, but couldn't help but have that signature, goofy smile on his face.

"What?" she replied.

"Please, come closer."

"What is it?"

Katara couldn't help but notice how much different Aang had been, how much he's grown, and how much she's grown herself. As she was thinking Aang leaned in and kissed her. She snapped out of it and leaned into the kiss, deepening it. When they pulled away they looked into each other's eyes.

"I don't remember that happening," she said with a smirk on her face.

"That's what I wanted to happen," he said with that goofy grin that made her melt.

They sat for about half an hour, watching the ice chunks drift, their heads leaning on each other.

"We've been out here for a while," Aang said, "We should be leaving soon."

"Okay," she responded.

Katara kissed him on the cheek and got up. They started walking towards Appa.

"Aang… I have been wondering… if wha-what the Bei Fong's said is true."

His eyes widened.

She looked into his eyes and said "I good enough for you?"

Aang saw the pain on her face and changed his gaze to her eyes. He put his arm around her and held her close. "It is true," he said calmly.

A flash of horror came over her face and tears started to form.

"I am the one who's not good enough for you," he said.

She looked up at him. "What?"

"Aang, you're the Avatar and I am… I'm... just…" she choked on her words. "I'm just some water tribe pea…"

Aang cut her off before she could finish.

"No Katara, you're perfect in every way. The way you are mothering, kind, sincere, and compassionate. You're the most perfect girl in the world, and I'm lucky enough to have you."

A smile grew on her face as he wiped a tear from her eye.

"I don't want you to feel like you need to deserve the Avatar," he continued, "I want you to feel like you love and deserve Aang. Do you understand?"

"You want me to love you based on you, not your status," she replied, "and I do. I always will."

At her words, he grinned his goofy grin.

They had just landed back in the village (which was more like a little town) and were greeted by Sokka and the others.

"Where were you two? You were gone for way too long," Sokka said angrily.

"What is your problem, Sokka?" Katara said, "I don't need your permission to spend time with my boyfriend. Dad already knows we are together and he approves," she said with a smug look on her face.

"Dad told me to protect you and to make sure things don't get out of hand," Sokka said defensively.

"But that doesn't mean you need to put yourself in my life all the time."

"Will you two stop fighting? It was entertaining at first, but now it's super annoying." Toph was getting agitated by the constant arguing.

"Let's go eat, some meat will make me feel better," Sokka said.

"Is that all you can think about?" Katara said, jokingly.

"That and Suki," he said.

She just sighed and they head towards one of the new restaurants that had been built in the reconstruction. The waiter seated them and the couples sat with each other with Toph at the end of their table. They ate and enjoyed themselves.

The next day they were heading back towards the Earth Kingdom. They were all riding on Appa.

"Guys, we should land somewhere close by. Appa is getting tired from carrying all these people, he's still not used to it," Aang said.

"Good idea Aang, where should we land?" Sokka asked.

"Kyoshi Island is close by, how about we land there" Aang answered.

"Great idea. I can go check up on the warriors and see how they're doing," said Suki.

"Do you think I am welcome to be there after what I did?" Zuko asked Suki.

"I think you'll be fine," Suki said, "Kyoshi is a peaceful and forgiving place. You're friends with the Avatar too, don't you forget. Kyoshi LOVES the Avatar."

Aang steered Appa in the direction of the island. It wasn't long before it came into view. When they landed they were surrounded and were greeted by most of the townsfolk. They saw old friends and foaming mouth guy fainted again.

"Avatar and friends it is nice to see you again. And Suki you have returned," Chief Oyaji said as they got off Appa.

"You too," Aang replied.

Aang watched as the Kyoshi Warriors were crowding around Suki. Ty Lee was now talking to Mai. Ty Lee was giggling like crazy and she managed to put a smile on Mai's face. He was smiling when he watched everyone greet each other. He had united all the nations once more. Soon his old fan club surrounded him.

"Hey Aangy, have you learned any new tricks?" Koko asked.

"Hi guys," Aang said nervously.

He remembered that when the last time they were on Kyoshi, he was swarmed by his fangirls. He didn't want to be followed by a bunch of his fans today. Katara watched as they surrounded him. She didn't look too happy about how close they were getting to him.

"He beat the Firelord," one said.

"He's sooooo cute," another said.

"Handsome too!" someone chimed in.

"Do you wanna take a walk?" another asked.

Aang didn't know how to deal with all the unwanted attention. Katara on the other hand was getting a little jealous. She didn't like the girls giving Aang that kind of attention. He started backing up, so he could have some room, but he was swarmed by his fans and couldn't escape. Suddenly, one of them kissed him on the cheek and Aang froze. He looked as if he were burned. Katara's face went crimson with anger. She started marching towards Aang.

"Uh oh," Aang said, as he watched Katara get closer and closer.

She marched right up to Aang and pressed her lips on his. He was startled, but he soon started to kiss back and then they pulled away. The girls looked confused and Aang put his arm around Katara's waist and she put her head on his shoulders. They started walking away and some of the villagers commented to themselves about their closeness.

Meanwhile, Mai and Zuko and disappeared to the beach. They were sitting and kissing, enjoying their alone time.

"Enjoying our little vacation?" Zuko asked.

"I guess, it's just nice knowing I have you."

"Do you like my friends? I know they're not your type but…"

"No Zuko, they are actually growing on me, the other girls and I are becoming more like sisters every day. I feel like I can be more open with them. I knew Azula for most of my life, and I couldn't talk to her, I've known them for a few weeks and I feel like I can tell them some of my deepest secrets."

"I'm glad to hear that, but Azula did put the bar really low for being a good friend," Zuko said.

"Yeah, like really, really low." Mai snickered and Zuko laughed. "Though Sokka and Katara arguing is really a pain," she smirked, "overall, I rate your friends six-out-of-ten."

"So my friends are just something that you can rate now, huh?" he asked.

"Yep, basically." Zuko laughed and Mai smiled. Zuko leaned in and kissed her. She kissed him back and within seconds they were deepening their kisses. Sokka walked by the beach with Suki and then let out a groan.

"ARGH! NOT YOU TOO. Katara and Aang are bad enough but I don't need to watch you make out with your girlfriend, Zuko." Sokka said.

Suki giggled and Mai laughed. Zuko looked a little angry.

"Uh-huh. So what were you and Suki gonna do before I asked you about your mother's death? You remember back in that tent. I don't think it was oh so innocent. I waited outside Katara's tent that night and I realized tents aren't soundproof. Surprise, surprise," he finished with a smug grin. Suki and Sokka went crimson and their mouths dropped. Mai giggled.

"That's none of your business what I do with my girlfriend," said Sokka angry, still kind of embarassed.

"It's none of yours what I do with mine," Zuko said.

Tension rose and the eye contact between them was really tense. Before they could continue, a messenger hawk appeared and landed on Sokka's arm.

"HAWKY!" Sokka screamed.

"What the-" Zuko said confused.

"My pet hawk from before the invasion he returned," Sokka said as he petted the hawk and started cooing at it. Zuko facepalmed and dropped their argument. He rejoined Mai on the beach. This was the perfect time to resume their previous activities because Sokka was gonna be preoccupied with that bird for a while.

While Zuko, Mai, Sokka, and Suki were busy on the beach, Aang and Katara decided to explore the island. They held hands as they explored. They had found a stream leading right to the ocean.

"Aang, will you come waterbend with me? Pleaseeee?" she asked with a puppy-dog face.

"Fine."

"Yay!"

They started stripping down into their swimwear.

"Aang?" she asked as they were changing.

"Yeah?" he replied as he was pulling his shirt off.

"Can we stay by the stream? It's a lot more private than the beach?"

"Sure."

"Thanks, sweetie." She hugged him.

"Sweetie?" Aang asked, confused.

"Oh, you don't like it? Sorry, I'll stop."

"I was just surprised since you hadn't said it before. I think it's kind of cute, sweetie."

Katara blushed a little bit, but then she bent water straight into his face.

"Hey, no fair, I was caught off-guard."

Katara shrugged and bent water into his face again. Soon they had a gigantic water fight, and they practically giggled the whole time. Sokka heard the sounds of giggling and went over to the stream.

"Hey guys look who is back!" Sokka yelled.

Katara was distracted and Aang waterbended and she fell over.

"Hey!" she giggled, trying to seem angry but desperately failing.

She then bent made a gigantic wave of water and crashed it into him, causing him to topple over completely. They started to have a water fight again, this time with even more giggling. Sokka looked like he was about to throw up.

"Ahem!" Sokka cleared his throat.

"AHEM!" Sokka did the same thing only way louder.

Aang and Katara stopped water fighting.

"Huh? Oh yeah, sorry Sokka. We got distracted," Aang said.

"Hawky is BACK!" Sokka exclaimed.

Katara just sighed at her brother's stupidity and Aang laughed. Momo jumped up and started fighting Hawky on Sokka's head. Sokka freaked out and fell into the stream.

"Hawky! No, don't fight Momo! Be friends, Hawky! Down, AGH!"

Aang and Katara laughed, Suki found them and joined them.

Their stay in Kyoshi was short and the next day they set off. They were almost to Ba Sing Se.

"So what do guys want to do in Ba Sing Se? We do have three days till the meetings start," Sokka said.

"I don't know," Katara was thinking, "ooh, how about we have a big dinner tonight at our new house," Katara offered.

"Yeah, to celebrate our new beginning," Aang said.

"I do like the sound of lots of food," Sokka said rubbing his stomach.

Everyone laughed besides Mai.

"Well, when do we get there? I am going to have to get some supplies then, so does anyone have any money?" Sokka asked.

"Well, the city said they would pay for all of our expenses," Katara said.

"I don't know if we should take advantage of the city's hospitality like that. We should just pay like everyone else." Aang said.

"Come on Aang use an Avatar perk for once," Sokka groaned.

"Fine, only if we don't buy meat," Aang grinned.

"WHAT! NO MEAT HOW COULD YOU. I NEED THE ENERGY IN MEAT!" Sokka yelled.

"To do what? Kiss your girlfriend and yell at Aang and Katara?" Toph said.

This time everybody laughed and Mai snickered a little bit.

They had finally arrived in Ba Sing Se and the gang began to enjoy their meat-free feast.
