Chapter 3
The Gaang had just finished enjoying their dinner at their new home.
"I'm stuffed," Toph said as she picked at her teeth.
"That was pretty good, I'm not going to lie," Zuko said.
Mai nodded in agreement.
"Eh, it still would've been better if we had meat," Sokka replied.
Katara rolled her eyes at her brother. "So, what now?"
"I think we should pick our rooms," Suki said.
Toph hopped off the couch. "FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE!" she yelled.
Everyone took off through the large house. Finding a room to stay.
"I call this one!" Katara said.
"I call the one next to Katara's!" Aang said.
Everyone else took the time to choose their rooms, while Aang and Katara were already unpacking. Aang finished before Katara and walked out onto the balcony. Katara noticed and stopped what she was doing. They both stood outside for a while. Watching the night sky. Katara broke the silence.
"Remember the last time we were on a balcony?" she pondered out loud.
"How could I forget? It was one of the best moments of my life."
Katara blushed and then they kissed.
"Aang I…" she shut her eyes. "I want to tell you something, but I'm not sure if we're far enough into our relationship."
"You can tell me anything," Aang replied.
"I... I think-um... I feel like... tha-that," she stammered. Katara fixed her gaze upon Aang and she felt a wave of confidence as the moon shined upon her. "Aang, I... I," she closed her eyes and turned back.
"No, don't lose confidence," she thought to herself.
Katara turned back to Aang. "I think, no, I KNOW that I will spend the rest of my life with you."
"I don't think so Katara."
Katara's face fell. Her lips quivered, and her eyes were teary. He continued.
"I know so too," he whispered into her ear. She smiled and kissed him.
They stood there for a long while. Embracing each other. It got really late and they both realized they needed to go to sleep.
"Well," Aang said as he walked to his room. "Goodnight Katara."
"Goodnight Aang," she said as he walked into his room.
She sighed. She looked up into the dark sky, her eyes all dreamy-like. She soon walked back into her room and fell asleep.
Even in her sleep, all she could think about was Aang. It was as if her mind revolved around the airbender. Every moment spent with him felt so perfect. A smile rose across her face as she slept and it stayed all night long.
Zuko and Mai decided to share a room. They were the oldest couple and therefore got a little more privilege. Tonight would be their first night sharing a living space. They both stripped down to their undergarments before getting into their bed.
"Well, this is kinda weird," Maid said to Zuko.
"We just aren't used to it yet," he replied.
He pulled her in close to him and she laid her head on his bare chest. She listened to his heartbeat and enjoyed the warmth that came from the firebender. They kissed gently and fell asleep holding each other.
Sokka and Suki's rooms were right next to each other. They held each other in the hallway. It was almost as long as Katara and Aang stood on the balcony.
"I love you," Suki whispered to Sokka.
"I love you too," he replied.
They shared a light kiss and Suki went to her room.
"I love that girl," Sokka said dreamily.
He shut the door to his room and fell asleep almost instantly.
Katara awoke the next morning and found that her bed was filled with panda lilies. She smiled knowing a certain bender had been here. She got dressed and then put a panda lily in her hair. When she got downstairs she found her friends in their living space, eating breakfast.
"Hey Katara," Aang grinned.
"Hey Aang, thanks for the surprise," she kissed him on the cheek.
Then she sat down next to him and wrapped her hand around his.
"You know you can't eat with one hand right?" Sokka said with a smug look on his face.
Aang put both his hands up to show he wasn't holding Katara's.
"Soooo... What are we doing today?" Toph asked.
"Well, Mai and I are going to the spa. You and Katara are welcomed to come," Suki responded.
"Mai is going to the spa?" Zuko said, surprised. He had almost spilled his coffee on his lap.
"Zuko, do you have a problem with that?" Mai asked.
"No, I just didn't think that you would like to go to the spa," Zuko said before cupping his hand over his mouth.
"Lighten up Zuko, it's okay. It's more time for me to bond with the girls," Mai said.
"I guess I'll go," Katara piped up.
"I might as well go too, I have nothing better to do," Toph said.
They continued their breakfast in peace. Aang had been pondering a question all morning. He went to his room to try and figure it out.
"Should I ask Katara out on a date? We've never technically had an official date before," he thought about it some more. "She would love that and I'd be a good boyfriend."
"Alright then," he whispered to himself. "I'm asking Katara out on a date."
"Time to go, girls," Suki said.
They walked out and started toward the spa. Aang saw them leave from his room and took off after them.
"Hey Katara, your boyfriend is coming," Toph smirked.
They all turned around to see Aang running up.
"Oh, hey Aang. What's up?" Katara asked sweetly.
"I needed to tell you something."
"Oh spirits, I didn't think I was gonna ask in front of all the other girls," he panicked.
"Can I talk to you in private for a sec?" he asked.
"Oh, uh- sure," she said.
The other girls walked about twenty feet away and Katara started again.
"So Aang, what's going on?" she asked with a hint of worry in her voice.
"Oh, well ummm... we have been dating for a while now and I realized w-we haven't actually gone on an actual full-fledged date. So... do you want to go with me... on one?" he asked nervously, his face flushed.
"Sure Aang, I'd loved to." Katara kissed him on the cheek. "We've already been over this, Aang. You don't need to blush. We're a couple now and you should be more comfortable," she said.
"As I said before, every day with you is as exciting and fun as the first," he said, "You know, I can't help but blush at perfection."
Katara blushed and whispered in his ear, "I think it's cute." She gave him a kiss but they were cut off by yelling in the background.
"TWINKLE TOES, SUGAR QUEEN, MAKE OUT ON YOUR OWN TIME, I HAVE PLACES TO GO!"
"THANKS, TOPH!" Katara yelled before running out to join the other girls.
Aang was really excited as he walked back before he realized he knew nothing about dates. He had never had a girlfriend before and was totally clueless. He needed help. He began to think of what to do. He was rapidly becoming depressed and was constantly thinking about Katara breaking up with him. He walked through the door of the house.
"Hey Aang, where did ya go?" Sokka asked.
He sighed and replied sounding depressed, "to talk to Katara."
"What's wrong with you?" Zuko asked.
"I have a date with Katara tonight," he replied.
"Why is that bad? You aren't thinking about dumping her, are you? Because..." Sokka started.
"No no, I really want to go on a date with her... it's just... I don't know what to do... I have never been on a date before," he said.
"That's rough buddy," Zuko said.
"Yeah," Sokka chimed in.
They were all thinking for a few minutes until Aang came up with an idea.
"Wait, I know. You guys could help me. You have happy girlfriends. You guys could give me tips and help me set it up," Aang said.
"Sure, I'll help you," Zuko said.
"Yeah, I'll help too. You'll need masters like us," he said, grinning, pointing his thumb at himself.
"Thanks a lot, guys," Aang said.
"Okay, so, now down to business. What do you want to do on your date?" Zuko asked.
"I don't know um... I think she would want to go to a fancy, romantic restaurant."
"Hey, that's not a bad idea," Zuko said. "What else do you guys like?"
"Hmmmm..." Aang said, stroking his chin, "Katara also likes dancing with me."
"Good idea Aang, there is a free dance hall in the Middle Ring. You could go there and then go to dinner." Sokka said.
"And after that, you could go somewhere special like the Starlight Fountain," Zuko added.
"Yeah great, then we should go make the dinner reservations then," Aang said.
They headed towards the Upper Ring to find a restaurant that Katara would like, while the girls were relaxing in a steam room.
"So Katara, what did Aang need to tell you in private?" Suki asked.
"Well he um... he wanted to go on a date with me tonight," Katara answered, blushing a little.
"So Twinkletoes grew some backbone and asked you? Good for him," Toph said.
"Wait, haven't you guys gone on dates already?" Mai asked.
"I don't know if they're 'dates', but we've never gone out to a restaurant or anything like that because we've been pretty busy."
"So what are you going to do?" Suki asked.
"I don't know, I don't care. I just want it to be perfect," Katara said.
"Well that usually doesn't happen, on my first date with Zuko he ended up having knives thrown at him by some girl," Mai said, remembering the encounter.
"I just want it to be perfect so we can always remember it," she said.
"Well, you can make it better by looking your best for Aang. We are in a spa after all. When we're finished here he will be drooling when he sees you and we can go out and help you find an outfit to wear," Suki said.
"I'm down," Mai said.
"I could care less, but I guess I'll come," Toph said.
"So then it's settled. After this, we go help Katara find something to wear," Suki said.
Everyone nodded and Katara smiled, thankful to have these people be her close friends.
