Chapter 5

"Psssst, Katara," Aang whispered.

The waiter was still listing the specials and explaining them.

"Yeah, Aang?" she whispered back.

"Look," Aang said as he pointed to a table. Katara squinted her eyes to try and focus her vision.

"Oh my spirits," she said in an annoyed tone.

"Yeah. You think they're spying on us?" Aang asked.

"Most definitely."

"Let's get out of here, we can order it to go, and then we can have a picnic."

"Okay, sounds good."

Katara redirected her attention to the waiter.

"We also have the shri-"

Katara cut him off. "Can I order the Sea Prune dish?"

The waiter was a little bit phased by being cut off. "Oh yes, of course," he smiled. "What about you Avatar?"

"I'll order the vegetarian dish, y'know the only one."

"Sure thing."

"Oh, and can we get it to go?"

"Of course, Avatar."

He left into the kitchen. Aang and Katara got their food within minutes and they left.

"Do you think they noticed us?" Sokka whispered.

"What do you think?" Suki asked sarcastically. "Of course they did. Why else would they leave?"

Sokka groaned. "We ordered like, ten minutes before they even showed up."

"Well, you ordered the three-course meal 5 times over. Plus he's the Avatar, of course he'll get special treatment."

"Hey! You can't blame a dude for being hungry!"

A waiter started walking towards their table, tons of food in hand.

"Mmmm... finally!" Sokka said, grinning.

The waiter walked right past them and delivered the food to the table right next to them.

"ARGGHH!" Sokka groaned.

Suki burst into a fit of laughter.

Aang and Katara walked through the crowded streets.

"Ugh, we're not gonna be able to get there through these crowded streets," Aang said disappointed.

"Where?" Katara asked.

"I guess I'll just take you tomorrow," Aang said, looking defeated.

They started walking back to the house. Then an idea popped into his head and he pulled out his glider.

"You brought that thing with you?" Katara asked.

"You can't blame me, I'm the Avatar. We would have to step in if something happened," Aang said with a goofy smile.

Aang put his boxed salad into his robe. She put her sea prunes into a bag and wrapped it around her shoulders. He motioned for Katara to go over to him.

"Okay Katara, hold on." She grabbed onto Aang with one hand and put one on the glider. Aang propelled the glider and they went soaring. Katara looked down and was struck by fear. She held him tight. Aang noticed and blushed a little bit.

"Where are we heading?" she asked.

"I already told you. It's a surprise," he replied.

They made it to the Lower Ring and were gliding above the picnic area.

"Wow, Aang. It's beautiful," she said as she looked down onto a bright fountain.

"It's not as beautiful as you." Katara blushed madly.

"Let's get a closer look," Aang said.

They were going down at a very high speed and Katara held him even tighter and shut her eyes. She opened her eyes to notice that they were on the ground.

"It's even prettier up close," Katara said.

They sat on a bench by the fountain and pulled out their food.

"Aw, man," Katara said, "my sea prunes are cold."

"Did you forget that your boyfriend is the Avatar?" Aang asked jokingly.

She giggled as he warmed up her food.

"Thanks, sweetie."

She kissed him on the cheek and they started to eat.

"So, what is this place?" Katara asked.

"It's the Firelight Fountain. The fires are only set on special nights like these."

They finished their food and walked up to the fountain.

"Thank you, Aang. This was wonderful."

"Yeah, the fountain made this night extra special."

"No Aang, you're the one who made it special."

Their gaze was set on one another. Eyes twinkling, and heavy breathing. They shared a long, passionate kiss.

"I love you, Aang," she said.

"I love you too." She pecked him on the lips and they started walking back, hand-in-hand.

"It's starting to rain," Aang said as he held out his hand.

Aang pulled out an umbrella.

"We don't need an umbrella, we're both master waterbenders."

"Umbrellas are what make rainy days with loved ones special. You'll see, Katara."

She put her head on his shoulders and he grabbed her hip. They got close to the house and shared a short, intimate kiss before heading inside. They both sat on the couch.

"We should be going to bed, it's pretty late," she said.

"I don't feel like getting up. I'm really comfortable right here." Katara looked at him and sighed. Then, Aang started tickling her. She laughed at the attack.

"Aang, stop," she said between giggles, "the others are probably asleep."

"Okay, okay, I'll stop," he snickered.

She fell asleep in Aang's lap and Aang soon followed.

The next morning, Sokka walked downstairs. He stopped mid-yawn, his eyes wide.

"Let them be, Snoozles. Their heartbeats are really calm," Toph said, to stop him from waking them up.

"Fine. I won't wake them up yet. But remember that he has to come with us to attend the Harmony Restoration meetings, so that means we have to wake him up soon."

"Great," Zuko leaned back in his chair. "I have to listen to old people talk for a few hours."

"What about Iroh? You usually speak with him from hours on end," Sokka said.

"Hey, that's different!" Zuko said.

Everyone was laughing. Aang was awoken by their commotion.

"Huh?" Aang said.

He opened his eyes and his gaze kept switching between Katara and the other members of the Gaang. He started blushing. Katara felt the movement of Aang and woke up too. Aang and Katara both looked at each other and turned even redder than they ever have. The Gaang giggled some more as they watched the couple awkwardly get up.

"So what's the plan for today?" Aang asked, trying to change the conversation.

"Today is the first day of those Harmony Restoration meetings."

Aang's face fell when he realized that he couldn't spend the day with Katara. She noticed his disappointed look and decided to reveal something she's been hiding.

"Aang, since you keep giving me surprises, I decided to give you one," Katara said.

"Yeah? What is it?" he asked, still dreary.

"Dad made me a representative of the Southern Water Tribe!" she said, smiling and hugging Aang.

"WHAT?!" Sokka yelled, spitting out his tea. Aang and Katara let go of each other and stared at him.

"What's the problem, Sokka?" Zuko asked.

"The problem is that these meetings were supposed to be an escape from Katara and Aang giving me the oogies!" Sokka exclaimed. Katara rolled her eyes and Aang shook his head.

The four of them arrived at Earth King Keui's palace about half an hour later. There were delegates from each nation. Katara and Sokka represented the Southern Water Tribe. Zuko represented the Fire Nation. Aang represented the Avatar and the Air Nomads.

The meeting lasted for a few hours and they discussed about reforming the Fire Nation schools, and armies. After it ended, they walked out of the palace into the Upper Ring.

"Y'know that was a fairly interesting discussion. I can't wait for tomorrow," Katara said.

"Of course you enjoyed it," Sokka said.

"Hey! What is THAT supposed to mean?"

"Y'know, I almost fell asleep," Zuko chimed in.

"Argh, since you two are acting like jerks about it, I'll ask Aang," Katara responded angrily.

She fixed her gaze from Sokka and Zuko to Aang.

"What did you think of it, sweetie?"

"Uhhh... it was great, I guess," Aang said.

She kissed him on the cheek. Sokka rolled his eyes.

Zuko and Sokka walked ahead, joking around with each other, while Aang and Katara stayed behind. Doing lovey-dovey stuff and making each other blush.

"You two wanna come with us to get drinks?" Sokka asked.

"Sure," Aang responded. "We still have plenty of time to lose."

"So where are we going?" Katara asked.

"The Jasmine Dragon of course. It's my uncle's teashop. The tea there is unmatched and most of the Upper Ring teashops have gone out of business."

They went inside the Jasmine Dragon.

"Zuko!" Iroh said as they hugged.

"Hi, Uncle."

"Aang, Katara, Sokka, it's very nice to see you three." They bowed and greeted each other.

"Unfortunately we're full right now, but we have a nice patio in the back," Iroh said, as he motioned for them to follow. They walked to the back patio.

"I have to go back to running my business, but I'll be back to get your orders," he walked back inside.

There were some people in the back, but it was reserved for only friends, family, and Iroh's best customers.

Sokka and Zuko pulled up to a table of four.

"Hey, where did those two go?" Sokka asked.

Zuko motioned to a table behind them. Sokka turned around and saw a giggling Katara and a blushing Aang.

"Hey, who gave them permission to sit there?"

Zuko shrugged. "Just leave them alone, I don't think my uncle cares if they sit there."

"Why do you say that?"

"Because he's taking their order right now."

Sokka turned around again to see the three of them chuckling. Iroh took their orders and started walking towards Zuko and Sokka.

"So, what do you want, my nephew?" he asked.

"You already know what I like, Uncle."

"Okay, what about you Sokka?" Uncle asked.

"I'll just get Green Tea, I guess," Sokka said, paying no attention to Zuko or Iroh. Just staring at Aang and Katara.

"Okay, I'll have your tea ready in a few minutes."

Sokka's eyes were glued on Aang and Katara and Zuko just sat there patiently. Within a couple of minutes, Iroh delivered their tea.

"Thanks, Uncle."

"Yes, thank you Iroh," Sokka said as he finally took his gaze off of his sister and her boyfriend.

Zuko took a sip and there was a delighted look on his face. Sokka returned his gaze to Aang and Katara and took a sip. His eyes popped out of his skull, his face turned red, and he looked like he was about to throw up. He spit the tea all over the table.

"Ewww... what the heck?" he said as he rubbed his tongue with his napkin.

"What?" Zuko asked.

"That tea is disgusting!"

"Hey! Don't insult my uncle's tea!" Zuko said angrily.

Aang and Katara watched as Zuko and Sokka were arguing.

"Poor Sokka," Aang said.

"Poor Zuko, he has to sit next to my brother all by himself," Katara replied.

They started laughing hard. Sokka heard their laughter.

"WHAT?! YOU TWO THINK THIS IS FUNNY!? DO YOU KNOW HOW BAD IT TASTES AND HOW MUCH IT HURTS?!"

The back door opened.

"Hey, what's going on out here?" Iroh said calmly.

"I think something is wrong with Sokka's drink," Zuko explained.

Iroh looked into Sokka's mug and saw a half-eaten red and white flower.

"I'm not sure how that got in there," Iroh said, confused.

He rushed Sokka into the kitchen. You could hear Sokka screaming in pain. They laughed at his high-pitched screaming.

Aang and Katara returned to their boyfriend-girlfriend things and Zuko went back to his table. Twenty minutes had passed and Iroh nor Sokka had returned.

"I'm getting kinda worried about Sokka," Katara said.

"Don't worry, I'm sure that he'll be just fine," Aang replied.

A few moments later Iroh burst out to the patio. All three of them rushed over.

"Bad news, some white jade bush somehow got into his drink."

"What's that?" Aang asked.

"A poisonous flower. I had eaten one a few months ago, I had mistaken it for a white dragon bush, which makes quite a tea."

"Is he going to be okay?" Katara asked.

"Oh, he'll be fine. We found some pakui berries in our local market. They're known for curing the poison of the white jade bush."

"Thank the spirits!" Katara said.

"The flower must've come from a field, and the wind must've pushed it onto the patio and into Sokka's cup."

"Is he still in the teashop?" Zuko asked.

"No, we brought him to your house to rest. It's getting close to sundown. You three should return home."

"Okay, Uncle!" Zuko said as he hugged Iroh.

Katara and Aang bowed to Iroh. And they started running home.

"Bye!" Iroh yelled as his nephew and his two friends were running in the distance.

Iroh turned around to pick up his teacup. He took a sip and looked into the cup.

"Too much honey."
