"You're freaked out, aren't you?" she asked him while she washed their dinner plates in the sink.
"I am not freaked out," he replied.
"Really? Because the radio silence ever since I asked you that question would suggest otherwise," she said, looking straight ahead out the kitchen window.
"I just didn't expect it. You caught me off guard."
"How could you not expect it, Luke? We're getting married."
"I know," he whispered into his lap.
She set the dish down into the sink and walked over to him and sat down at the table. Not 10 minutes ago, she'd brought up the topic of him moving in and he'd suddenly gone mute.
"So, what? Were you planning on being married and living in different places?" she asked with a little laugh, trying to diffuse the situation. She reached to grab his hands in hers, willing him to meet her eyes.
"I just didn't know you wanted to do this so soon," he said.
"Move in together or get married?"
"I honestly assumed I'd move in after the wedding. Isn't that how people usually do it?" he asked.
"I'm not sure," she pondered. "I don't think there's a set way to do it."
He remained silent.
"We can do it that way if you want," she offered.
"You just said we should do it this weekend," he replied
"Well I figured it'd be a good time since we're both taking off."
"Right. I'm sorry, I was just taken aback by the now of it all," he told her.
"I didn't mean to spring it on you," she said.
"It's fine. I honestly don't have a lot of stuff to move here. And it's not like I have to get everything out of the apartment. I'll still own it regardless."
"Right. It'll be a lot easier for you," she trailed off.
"Hey," he gave her hands a squeeze and she looked up to meet his gaze. "We can do it on Sunday."
"Really?" she smiled wide.
"Yeah. But really all I'm bringing here are my clothes and toiletries. You already have everything else."
Though it wasn't a huge move for him, it was a big deal to her. It wasn't so much the act itself as it was the meaning behind it. And it'd probably be nice to be settled into her house by the time they got married.
She got up, kissed him on the cheek, and went back to do the dishes.
"You excited for Saturday?" he changed the subject.
"I am. Sookie's freaking out," she said.
"Why?"
"Because she's getting married...?"
"And you've planned it from A-Z," he reminded her. "There's nothing for her to worry about."
"I mean it's not like she has cold feet. She wants her wedding day to be perfect. And she's probably got hundreds of scenarios going through her mind of what could happen to make it not perfect. You know her."
"Right. So is that a common thing? Should I steer clear of you the week before we get married?"
"Ah, no. You're joining your life with mine forever, you might as well get used to dealing with my crazy ahead of time."
"Yes, but it'll be my last week of freedom so maybe I should enjoy it," he retorted.
She turned around and playfully threw the dish towel at him. He laughed as he caught it and tossed it back, walking toward her and wrapping his arms around her waist from behind.
"Or maybe you can just have really hot sex with me every night the week before so my nerves are calmed," she proposed.
"You're not supposed to see the bride the day before the wedding. It's bad luck."
"Okay then every night until the day before."
"I think I can do that," he said, picking her up and turning her in his arms to carry her to the couch. "We could practice that now," he smiled deviously.
"Mmmmm," she hummed in agreement. "Screw the dishes."

"What the hell are they wearing kilts for?" Luke thought as Jackson and his groomsmen took their places at the end of the aisle.
Pachelbel's Canon interrupted his thoughts and he turned in his seat to find Rory making her way down the aisle. Lorelai followed and the only thoughts in his mind were that the next time he saw her doing this, she'd be the bride and it'd be their wedding.
She winked at him as she passed by and took her place next to her daughter at the front of the congregation.
The music turned into the Wedding March and Sookie began her walk down the aisle.
Lorelai's attention went back and forth between the bride and groom. Their eyes never left each other's from the second Sookie came into his sight. Lorelai was beaming with happiness for her friend.

It was later that evening. Most of the guests had tapered off. But Jackson's brothers were still there reminiscing about their childhood, all of them double fisting 2 bottles of beer. Needless to say, there would be a good hour or so before Sookie and her husband left for the night. So, Lorelai took the opportunity to steal a few moments away with her.
"I can't believe you're married," she said, wrapping her arm around her best friend's shoulder as they walked the grounds of the Independence Inn.
"Crazy, huh?" Sookie agreed. They came to a stop by the stables and Lorelai ran into the old potting shed to grab a blanket she'd left there years before. She spread it out on the ground so that she and Sookie could sit and look up at the stars without getting their dresses dirty.
"Was it as scary as you thought it would be?"
"No, all of my nerves like magically vanished as soon as I saw him waiting for me at the other end of the aisle."
Lorelai shrieked like a 12 year old hearing about a friend's first kiss and leaned her head on Sookie's shoulder. "Look at us all grown up now. Remember the last time we sat out here?"
"You mean when we were 19 and stole a bottle of champagne out of the kitchen on New Years Eve? Yeah, I remember. Rory woke up from the sound of the fireworks and came out to watch with us."
"I miss her being that little."
"We sure have come a long way," Sookie smiled.
"Thank you for asking me to stand by your side today. I am so happy for you. And so proud of you. I'm not sure if I tell you that enough. I love you, Sook."
"I love you too, honey."

Her fiancé was sitting at one of the guest tables staring off into space when she returned.
"Hey you," she said, walking up behind him and placing her hands on his shoulders.
He turned to face her, his eyelids heavy. "Hey," he said with a tired voice.
"You ready to go?" she asked. "Sookie and Jackson just left and the staff is ready to clean up whenever I give them the 'go ahead.'"
"Sure," he said, accepting the hand she'd offered to him and pulling himself up.
The band was still playing softly and she stopped him before turning to him. "Wait. One last dance? You know...since the next time we dance at a wedding, it'll be ours and we'll be married."
"Married," he breathed, smiling at her.
"Yeah," she said, her eyes sparkling with wonder and anticipation.
He took her hand and led her onto the empty dance floor. She pulled him closer to her and laid her head on his shoulder, her hand laced through his over his heart.
"So now that you're done with all your maid of honor duties..."
"Am I going to start planning our wedding?"
He laughed. "Yeah."
"Well I was thinking maybe we could sit down and talk about it. What we want, what we don't want. You know as soon as Sookie gets back from her honeymoon, she's gonna be all about our wedding."
"Just...remember that I want to be a part of it. The planning, I mean."
Lorelai looked up at him quizzically.
"Why wouldn't I remember that?"
"I don't know how involved guys like to be with this kind of stuff. Maybe we're just expected to show up and say 'I Do', but I want to be involved. I want to help make it the best day of your life."
"Our life," she corrected. "Plus, as long as you're there, it will be the best day of my life."
"I just—I want to help make that happen. I want to be a contributing factor."
"You're the groom, you're kind of a major factor," Lorelai laughed.
"You get what I'm trying to say."
"I do, I do. How about we go to a nice restaurant next weekend after you're moved in and we can start sorting out some details?"
"Really?" his face lit up.
"Absolutely," she said, kissing him on the cheek and swaying in his arms for the remainder of the "You're The Inspiration" instrumental that was resounding ambiently though the speakers.
