This chapter will be about Sukka (and Toph, kinda). Kataang will return in the next chapter.

Chapter 10c

Suki and Sokka were enjoying their kiss on top of Appa. They were excited to be heading to Ember Island. They would be getting some much wanted alone time. They hadn't had much time as a couple because of saving the world, peace meetings, and other interruptions.

"Guys, look! Ember Island is right over there!" Sokka yelled. He woke up the others with his screaming.

They were all unhappy with him.

"Couldn't you have woken us up calmly?!" Zuko asked, annoyed.

"I wanted you guys to be awake as soon as possible because I cannot wait to hit the beach!" Sokka replied.

"BEACH PARTY!" Sokka yelled and ran out toward the beach. Suki followed and they found a spot to lay their towel.

They hung out on the towel. Giving the occasional kiss to one another while they waited for the other couples to arrive. Toph used this time to practice her sandbending.

Mai and Zuko arrived a few moments later and did their stuff.

A few minutes had gone by and neither Aang nor Katara had arrived at the beach.

"If they take any longer I'm going to head up there and see what they're doing," Sokka said.

"Sokka, just let them do their thing. Besides, they haven't interacted with each other since almost two weeks ago," Suki replied.

Toph overheard their conversation and chimed in. "Yeah Snoozles, let 'em suck-face. It's been a while since Twinkletoes has been awake."

A few moments after that, the young couple had arrived. They started to cuddle on the beach too.

Sokka didn't appreciate his sister being all lovey-dovey right in front of him.

"I need to distract myself so Aang and Katara stop giving me the oogies," he thought. His eyes wandered around the beach until they rested on Suki. "Yes, Suki's the perfect distraction. I'll just make another Suki statue."

He got up but Suki didn't question it. He started to build another monstrous-looking statue of Suki.

There was a noise and he turned around. He looked up in awe. Katara and Aang were atop of a giant sandcastle.

"No fair, how come you get a castle?!" he questioned.

"Katara is my queen and she needs a castle," Aang responded.

"Aang is my king and we need a castle to live in," she giggled.

"There is no way Aang is just going to upstage me in front of my girlfriend. Doesn't he know that he shouldn't out-class his buddy right in front of his girlfriend?"

"That is it. I am gonna take over that castle. Sokka charged at the castle and Katara splashed him away using the water from the mote.

"WAR!" Sokka yelled.

He charged again, he was knocked back once more but he noticed that his friends had shown up to help. "Oh good. Zuko, Toph, Mai, and Suki joined the fight. I think we'll be able to handle the Avatar and his waterbending girlfriend," he thought.

Zuko shot fire at the walls while Toph shot sand alls. They started working together to form flaming sand alls. Aang easily deflected the attacks while Katara drenched anyone who got too close.

"We can't get close. Katara will just send us back with her waterbending. So I'm tapping out," Suki said.

"Alright, but I'm not giving up." He charged at the castle and he was pushed into the mote.

He climbed out and noticed that Suki went to sunbathe and the others had quit too.

Sokka charged one last time before Aang sealed him into the sand. Suki noticed and got up.

"Need help?" she asked.

"Yes, please get me out," he replied in defeat.

She pulled Sokka out easily and turned towards the castle to scold Aang and Katara.

Sokka and Suki heard laughing coming from the ocean, only to find them surfing already. Suki shrugged and went back to sunbathe.

"I'll show Aang and Katara. I will make a castle of my own for me and Suki. That will teach Aang to upstage me," Sokka thought.

Sokka worked nonstop for a couple of minutes before finishing his "castle". When he finished it looked like his old watchtower in the South Pole, only it was way smaller.

"Hey Suki, look what I made us," Sokka said proudly.

"A scrawny lookout tower?" she said jokingly.

"It's a castle, Suki," Sokka said, offended.

"That puny thing? Come on Snoozles, I thought you were an inventor," Toph commented before she stomped her feet and the whole thing collapsed.

"Toph, why did you do that? I put so much effort into it." Sokka moaned.

"I'm going back to the house," he pouted.

"I'll come with you," Suki said.

They walked up to the entrance and they sat on the steps.

Sokka sniffed the air. "Doesn't the warm ocean breeze smell wonderful?"

Suki sniffed. "I guess... I lived right by a beach my whole life and I gue-"

"OH MY SPIRITS! DO YOU SEE THAT WAVE?!" Sokka yelled, pointing at the giant wave.

"Will the others be okay?" Suki asked.

"I don't know, but this is the karma Toph deserves for breaking my castle."

Suki rolled her eyes. Sokka got up and started to walk back toward the beach. When he got there he saw his sister and friend lip-locked in the water.

"SOMEONE is having fun," Toph said.

He watched as his friend and sister blush before rolling off each other and laughing. Sokka rolled his eyes and watched as the two walked off.

"So, Suki what do you want to do? Zuko and Mai have disappeared, Katara and Aang are on a walk, and Toph is doing Toph things. Now we finally have some alone time," he said seductively.

"I don't know," Suki said.

"What do you want to do?" Sokka asked.

"How about we spar?" she said grinning.

"What? I don't want to fight you, I'd rather kiss you," Sokka said.

"Come on, last time we fought I kicked your butt, now that you have mastered the sword maybe I will have some fun before I beat you," she said smugly.

"Oh yeah? You are so going down," Sokka said.

He ran over to Appa and picked up his temporary sword (that he bought shortly after Sozin's Comet) and Suki's fans.

He tossed her fans to her.

"Let's do this," he said.

They started dueling. Sokka swung at her with his sword and Suki blocked the attacks. She would advance in for some close maneuvers, but Sokka would always block her back.

"You're holding back Sokka. I thought you were passed this 'girls can't fight' nonsense," she said.

"That isn't it Suki, trust me. After being with Toph and Katara for the past year I learned that girls can be just as tough as boys, sometimes even more. You are living proof. I just don't want to hurt you," he said.

"C'mon Sokkaaaaaaa, I wanna see what you got," she pleaded.

The two continued to duel but with more intensity. Sokka attempted to swipe some sand in her eyes but missed. They continued and Sokka's sword hit against Suki's fans. They stood holding their positions neither wanting to give in. Then Sokka kissed her on the lips passionately. She started to kiss back and they dropped their weapon and started kissing. Eventually, they parted.

"You cheated, kissing isn't allowed," Suki said.

"You never said that," Sokka said.

"Fine, but next time I won't go down so easily," she replied.

The two put their weapons back on Appa and then walked back up to the house. They got there to see Mai, Toph, and Zuko sitting in the courtyard.

"What's up, guys?" Sokka asked.

Before anyone could answer Zuko stood up and walked to the center of the courtyard. Zuko then took his stance. They watched him curiously. He started doing the motions of the attack. Lightning formed around him and then he shot his hand forward. The lightning bounced backward and started to electrocute Zuko.

"ZUKO," Mai said running toward him.

"Why was he trying to do lightning? Oh man, he looks like he's in pain. I gotta help him," Sokka thought.

Toph responded a split second after followed by Suki and Sokka.

"Don't touch him, you'll just electrocute yourself," Sokka yelled.

They stood around him not knowing what to do. Zuko seemed to be trying to absorb the energy.

"C'mon Zuko, you can make it, you have to. Mai would become even more depressed."

Zuko guided the energy through his stomach and then released it through his fingers into the sky. The lightning shot up and disappeared. Zuko collapsed.

"Is he okay?" Toph asked.

"I'm fine. I'm just tired. I shouldn't have tried that without Uncle here to guide me," he replied.

"I'm just glad your okay, for a second I didn't think you were gonna make it." Mai kissed him.

"First, never try that again without a healer or someone to guide you. Second, let's not tell Katara and Aang. They would freak out, especially Katara," Sokka said.

"Yeah, I'm with Sokka on this one. I don't want to hear Sugar Queen rant about how dangerous lightning is," Toph added.

"Then, it's settled. We never speak of this again," Sokka said.

They helped Zuko walk into the house and rest on the couch. Mai sat there with him. Toph started to pick out her toes.

"Okay, I'm pretty tired and sweaty from our duel. I am gonna take a bath," Suki said before heading upstairs.

"What should I do now? Suki's gone and I have nothing to do. Maybe I should head to town and get the food," he thought.

Suki came downstairs. A minute later, Katara and Aang came back from their walk. They were giggling and holding hands.

"They're back for nearly one second and they're already being too mushy."

"So, how was the walk?" Suki asked casually.

"I just wish there weren't so many fangirls," Katara said bitterly.

"Oh, I'm sorry about that."

"It's okay. It's just something that comes with dating the Avatar, but I'm willing to deal with whatever it takes just so I can be with him."

"I've had enough of this," Sokka thought.

"UGHHHHH," he groaned. The ladies turned around and looked at him.

"Aang is not even here and you're still giving me the oogies."

Katara was about to lose it and she was ready to kill Sokka, but Aang walked back down the stairs and she was too distracted by him.

"So, what are we having for dinner?" Aang asked.

"We-"

"We don't know yet," Sokka said. "I'm heading to the market in a few minutes. I'll get the food."

"Alright, just don't forget to get me anything," Aang started to walk towards Katara.

"Time to get some meat," he thought and continued.

He walked around town and came across a meat vendor who was selling a whole basket of meat for a gold piece.

"Wow, all that meat for a gold piece? I can afford that and then we'll have food for days. I haven't had enough meat recently anyway, with Aang's stupid vegetarian diet," he thought.

Sokka walked up to the vendor.

"I would like to buy the basket of meat. But why it is so cheap?" Sokka asked.

"Ember Island is only for high-class citizens and important people," the vendor replied. "Everything here is extremely cheap or free. It's basically giving thanks to their funding of Fire Nation projects. Whether that be money... or fighting in wars."

"Okay, well here you go." Sokka handed the man a gold piece.

"Oh crap, Aang can't eat meat. If I bring nothing that fulfills Aang's vegetarian needs, Katara will kill me. I really don't want to fight an angry waterbender tonight. What can I get for a copper piece?" he thought.

He walked around and then saw two men selling small bags of something. He walked over.

"Is that rice?" Sokka asked.

"No it is animal fe..." he started but was cut off by his coworker.

"It is rice, special rice for animals. It is like animal feed but humans can eat it too. Only a copper piece," the other man said.

"Aang won't mind animal rice will he? Well anyways, this is perfect! Now Katara won't get mad at me," he thought.

"I'll take it," he told the two men.

Sokka made the exchange and then headed back toward the house. The two men laughed when he left.

Half an hour had gone by and Sokka walked into the room with a huge basket of meat.

"What'd you buy from the market?" Toph asked.

"MEAT, I went to the market and bought all the meat. I bought komodo chicken, some duck, platypus egg, and some-"

"What about Aang? He can't eat any of this," Katara said annoyed.

Sokka reached through his bag and pulled out a bag of rice.

"Here ya go, Aang," he plopped the bag into Aang's hand.

"THANKS, SOKKA," Aang said sarcastically and annoyed.

"Yeah I know, my consideracy is so lovable."

"Consideracy?" Katara asked, facepalming.

"It's a word," he replied defensively.

"You said you would get Aang something. How did you even know everyone else wanted meat? I like Aang's vegetarian diet."

"I did get him something, Katara. You can share the rice with him and we get to enjoy more meat," Sokka replied.

Everyone watched as another fight started to unfold.

"Katara, it's okay. The rice is fine for me," Aang said.

"Are you sure, Aang?"

"Yeah, it's fine. Let's just enjoy the rest of the night."

"See Katara? It's fine, don't be so angry," Sokka said.

Katara gave him the death glare and Sokka jumped back in fear.

Zuko started the fire and Sokka cooked all the meat. Sokka and Toph ate countless pieces of meat and left rarely any for the others.

"Mmmm... this meat is so good!" Sokka said.

"I gotta hand it to ya, Snoozles. This is some quality meat you found," Toph said munching on some meat.

They sat around the bonfire talking and telling stories. Sokka, of course, talked the most and everyone left to go to bed.

"Huh, why did everyone just leave like that?" Sokka wondered.

He joined the others and soon he went to bed and fell asleep.

The next day he and the others noticed that Aang started to act kinda weird.

Aang entered the dining area and Katara walked up to him to kiss him but he turned away.

"What's wrong, Aang?" she asked, a little upset.

"Uh... um-uhm... nothing. I-I'm going into town," he said abruptly.

"I'll go with you," she replied, still upset about the rejection.

"I... have to... go alone. Yes, go alone. It's... Avatar stuff..?" he was nervous.

Her face dropped. "Okay, I guess we can hang out later then," she said disappointed.

Aang walked out and closed the door behind him. Katara headed upstairs, upset that her boyfriend had rejected a kiss and barely even gave an explanation as to why he headed to town all alone.

"Aang not wanting alone time with Katara? Something is up," Sokka said to the others.

"What was with him, he never wants to be more than ten feet away from Katara," Suki said.

"Yesterday Twinkletoes and Sugar Queen were practically inseparable. Now he goes and rejects to hang out with her and a kiss from her? Something's definitely fishy."

"And what Avatar business would he have here? Nothing happens here but bad plays and beach parties. Heck, crime rates are at an all-time low after we started the Harmony Restoration Movement," Zuko said.

"I don't know but it doesn't really matter. Aang will be fine, he can take care of himself, and he is the Avatar," Toph said.

Sokka spent the rest of the day lounging with Suki. Aang finally reappeared and Sokka was glad because Katara looked depressed all day and wouldn't stop talking about Aang.

"Hey Aang, you're back!" Katara said when he walked through the door.

"Hey guys," he said. Katara walked up to him to give him a hug, but Aang walked around her and towards his room.

"Where are you going Aang? I thought after your 'Avatar business' we could do something together?"

"I can't I have something to do at the town. By the way, does anyone have any dance shoes?" he asked casually.

"Uh, no, why do you ask?" Sokka said.

"Nevermind, I guess I should be heading out," Aang said as he walked toward the door.

"What? You just got here, aren't you gonna eat?" Katara asked.

"N-no, I will eat where I'm going, and I gotta go now. See ya later," Aang said as he ran out the door. It pained him to reject Katara and ignore her.

"Something is going on with him. Where could he be going where he could be using dance shoes and eating food?" Sokka asked himself.

"I don't know, how about a party dum-dum," Toph said sarcastically. "And you're supposed to be the 'smart' one."

"Why would Aang go to a party, and without us?" Katara said confused and a little heartbroken.

"I don't know, but there is only one way to find out," Zuko said.

Team Avatar left to find out where Aang was. They noticed that many people had been talking about a dance party and there had been many flyers scattered over the town.

They arrived at the ballroom and noticed that Aang was dancing with someone else. Katara rushed out of the dance in tears and the other girls went after her.

"What is Aang doing? Why is he dancing with HER!? He's dating my sister. If he is cheating her, I will kill him. I don't care if he saved the world and can bend any element I will kill him." Sokka thought angrily. He was fuming.

He started to march towards Aang, but Toph grabbed him and pulled him out.

"Calm down, Snoozles. There is probably a perfectly good explanation for this. You know Twinkletoes would never try to hurt Katara. I think something is up with him," she said to him.

"I guess you're right, Aang did dance with that girl in the cave even though he really liked Katara. I think it's an airbender thing. They aren't really possessive and don't care much," he said. "But it still doesn't mean that I'm angry at him."

Toph and Sokka headed back to the house while Aang and Zuko followed a few minutes later.

"Look who's back," Sokka said, still angry.

"Who was your friend?" Toph asked.

"I don't know, some girl who was there, why?" he asked.

"You seemed awfully close," Suki said.

"Nope, just met her, she was pretty good at dancing. But, where's Katara?"

"Upstairs. Crying," Mai said.

"Oh, I'll go talk to her," he said before walking upstairs.

The others chilled for a bit and then headed to bed. None of them knew the context of Aang and Katara's "talk" and thought all would be well the next morning.

They were surprised to see the couple was very distant all day. The day after that started no different than the last. Aang and Katara seemed to be avoiding each other. Suki and Sokka sat on the beach.

"What is with those two?" Sokka asked. "They are never like this with each other. If he breaks her heart I will not hesitate to kill him."

"Sokka, you must understand this is Katara's first real relationship and Aang's too. They are just dealing with being a couple. You didn't think it was going to be perfect forever did you? They were going to have their rocky patches," she said knowingly.

"Good point... but they seem really perfect and complete when they're together. It's weird and baffling to see this happening," he responded.

Suki kissed him and they sat there, enjoying each other's company.

That night they watched as Katara left to talk to Aang and Zuko and Mai went to the balcony.

"What do you think those couples are up to?" Toph asked.

"Who knows, they're all crazy," Sokka said.

"Yeah," said Suki.

Aang and Katara walked in a little while later holding hands.

"I see you two have made up. If you didn't I would have killed Aang for breaking my baby sister's heart," Sokka said.

Katara rolled her eyes and Aang looked scared for a moment. They sat down still holding hands, joking around with each other as if the past two days hadn't happened. Zuko and Mai walked in soon after that.

"Hey guys, Mai and I have an announcement," Zuko said.

"YOU'RE GETTING MARRIED?" Sokka asked.

"Not yet, maybe in the future."

"So what's so important then?"

"Well, to answer your question, Mai and I will be gone for a week. We're celebrating our fifth anniversary and we're trying to make up for the lost time," Zuko said.

"Awwwww, we're so happy for you," Aang and Katara said together.

"We're happy for you too. You guy seemed to have worked out your issues. It's usually one of your first steps in being a couple," Mai said.

"Yeah," Katara said staring adoringly at Aang.

Katara redirected her gaze back to Mai and Zuko. "When is your anniversary?"

"About a month and a half from now. It's a while from now but we wanted to give you a heads up. We'll give you another one a week before we leave.

"Sounds great," Toph said.

They all split up and went to enjoy the night.
