Chapter 11
Aang and Katara slept in, they were so emotionally distraught the past few days, that it drained the energy out of them. Katara woke up and yawned. Her hair was a mess, she looked tired, and her eyes were droopy. She didn't bother fixing herself up and just wanted to be with Aang for a little bit. She walked into the hall and Sokka walked out of his room with a cup of tea and he was wearing his swim shorts.
"Oh good. You're finally awake," Sokka said.
"Are you going swimming this early in the morning?" Katara asked. She rubbed her eyes.
"It's actually pretty late. We had lunch an hour ago," Sokka responded.
"What?! Is Aang still here or is he out on the beach?" she questioned him.
"He's still here, but he's still asleep."
"He slept in too?"
"Yeah, I guess you guys were so depressed that you got the energy drained out of you," Sokka joked.
Katara punched him in the shoulder. "Oww!"
She walked to Aang's room and slightly creaked open the door. He was sound asleep. Katara got a chair and sat next to him.
About seven minutes passed and his breathing started to change and his limbs started moving. He opened his eyes and Katara was smiled at him.
"Ka-Ka-Katara?" he whispered.
"Good morning," she whispered back. She kissed him on the forehead. "Or should I say afternoon," she joked.
"Afternoon?" Aang asked, very confused.
"Yeah, we both slept in. It was lunchtime about an hour ago, so we should get dressed and get something to eat. Maybe we can go rest on the beach afterward," Katara proposed.
"Okay, let me get changed."
Katara left the room and went to get ready. Aang put on his clothes and shaved. They held hands and they walked downstairs. The house was empty. Everyone was out doing stuff.
She made them a vegetarian meal while they talked. Aang seemed to be complimenting Katara every two seconds and she was blushing the whole time. They sat across from each other at the table. Aang couldn't help but keep staring and complimenting her.
"Wow..." Aang said.
"'Wow' what?" Katara asked confused.
"I never realized how amazing your eyes are. I feel like I could get lost in those beautiful sapphire eyes forever." Katara started to blush even more.
"Aang, stop flattering me," she giggled.
"Why? I think it's cute when you get all flustered and start to blush."
She blushed even more. "Aang, I told you to knock it off," she laughed.
Aang started laughing too. "Okay, okay, I'll stop... for now," he smirked.
Katara rolled her eyes in a joking way and they continued to eat.
"I love you, Aang, more than anything here on the physical world or in the Spirit World." Katara grabbed his hand.
"I love you more than anything in the physical world," Aang replied.
Katara raised her eyebrow. "And?"
"Well, not the Spirit World. I mean, you've seen Wan Shi Tong's library. It's huge!" he joked.
Katara frowned and waterwhipped him in the face.
"Okay, sheesh. I love you more than anything in the Spirit World too!" Aang laughed.
She smiled and kissed his cheek.
They finished their food and went down to the beach.
"What took you guys so long?" Sokka questioned.
"What? Are you going to yell at us again?" Katara asked.
"We've been waiting for you guys to show up, we wanted you to come play volleyball with us," Suki said.
"Oh... so you wanna play?" Aang asked.
"Yeah, let's go." Katara pulled him towards the court.
Mai, Zuko, and Toph were already waiting there. Toph was the referee for the game.
"Alright, the teams will be Benders vs. Nonbenders," Toph said. "Whoever scores twenty-one points wins. Nonbenders start!"
Zuko, Aang, and Katara were a team. Sokka, Suki, and Mai were the other team.
Sokka started off and caught Katara off-guard, scoring a point. Toph stomped the ground and a giant '1' and '0' appeared.
Time went on and the score was 11-9, Benders were winning. It was Sokka's turn to serve again, this time the ball went towards Aang's side. He narrowly missed the ball and his instincts kicked in, causing him to use airbending to levitate the ball up. Aang hit the ball and scored a point. The sand '11' turned into a '12'.
"What?! That shouldn't count Toph! He used bending!" Sokka said.
"I'll let that one slide but no more bending is allowed," Toph said, picking her toes.
"ARGHHHHH!" Sokka groaned.
More time went by and the score was 20-19, Benders. Zuko served it and within a split-second Mai kicked the ball, gaining a point for their team in almost an instant.
"YES! WE CAN WIN THIS!" Sokka yelled.
Toph the score was 20-20. This was the tiebreaker round.
Suki served and Katara hit it back immediately. Mai hit it back in a powerful kick. Zuko slid to save the ball and Aang hit it back. Sokka wasn't paying attention and the ball hit him right in the head. Everyone rushed over to him.
"Sokka, are you alright?" Suki asked.
"Yeah, I think I'm- WAIT LOOK!" He pointed at the ball. It bounced off his head and landed on the Benders' side.
Everyone turned around.
"Well, I never told you to stop the match. Therefore, Sokka wins," Toph said.
Sokka immediately jumped up with glee. "YES! WE WON! WE WON! WEEEEE WONNNN!"
"Good game, Sokka," Katara told her brother. Sokka was doing dances.
"IN YOUR FACE!" he told Katara.
Katara frowned and drenched her brother with a wave.
An hour passed. Katara and Aang fell asleep while laying on their towel, Sokka and Suki were playing some volleyball, Toph was practicing her sandbending, and Zuko and Mai were making out.
"HEY!" a voice yelled. It had come from the path that connected the private beach to the commercial side of the beach.
"What are you guys doing here? Don't you guys know this is the Firelord's beach?" The voice now had a body. He looked to be about Zuko's age, maybe a little bit older.
Another person appeared behind him. He looked to be about Sokka's age.
"Well actually-"
"Oh, this is the Firelord's beach?" Zuko asked.
"What are you doing?" Sokka asked Zuko.
"I want to see where this will lead us to," Zuko replied, still whispering.
"Yeah, this is the Firelord's beach, you aren't supposed to be here," the guy said in a snobby, annoying voice.
As the dude got closer, Zuko recognized him to be Chan.
"Zuko, this is the same snob from last time," Mai said.
"Yeah, I know. I thought that destroying his house would teach him a lesson but he stills seems snobby."
"Let me guess, you're just some commoners that barely had enough money to afford coming here?"
"Yeah, that's us!" Suki said, playing into Zuko's game.
"What gives you the authority to tell us we shouldn't be here?" Zuko asked.
"I'm a son of one of the Admirals, one of the most prestigious titles you can have here in the Fire Nation."
Katara was woken up by the talking. She turned to Aang and started to wake him up.
Chan noticed Katara and started walking over to her.
"Hey there," he pulled out a flyer. "I'm Chan. Maybe you want to come party with us over at my house tonight, there will be tons of people there."
Katara took the flier. "Alright sounds, good," she said with a fake smile.
Chan started walking back with his friend. "Okay, see you there!"
Katara looked over to her sleepy boyfriend and rolled her eyes at Chan's poor attempt to woo her.
"There's no way we're going to that party! That guy is such a jerk!" Sokka yelled.
"Relax, Sokka. We'll just be there for a tiny bit." Zuko winked at Mai.
"Yeah, the parties here are super fun. Even if they are filled with spoiled teenagers," Mai said.
"Let's just check it out," Suki told Sokka.
"Fine, I'll go," he replied.
"What about you?" Suki turned to Katara.
"I guess we'll go. There's nothing better to do and we haven't gone to a party as a couple before," she said, stroking Aang's cheek. He was still fast asleep.
Many hours had gone by. Aang woke up a few minutes after the shenanigans with Chan. It was finally time for Chan's party.
"I can't believe you guys convinced me to go to this jerk's party."
"Calm down, Snoozles. It's not like you're living the rest of your life with this guy," Toph said.
They left for the party and got there a few minutes later. Everyone split. Sokka and Suki were watching a high-stakes Pai Sho game, Toph went around pranking people, Mai and Zuko had walked around, talking to strangers, and Katara and Aang sat on the couch. It was the very same couch that Mai and Zuko sat in those many months ago.
"Aang, can you get me some punch?"
"Yeah, sure." Aang got up and went over to the snacks.
Chan sat down next to Katara and took Aang's spot.
"Is he your boyfriend?" Chan asked.
"Yeah, so?" Katara said uncomfortably.
"Why date him when you can date a guy like me? I'm taller, older, more muscular, and my father has a very high rank."
Katara didn't answer, she was extremely uncomfortable and she hoped that her boyfriend would arrive soon. Mai watched Chan's pitiful attempts to win Katara over. She knew that Katara was getting extremely uncomfortable.
"Pst, Zuko," she said, catching his attention. "Let's do it now, I mean just look at them." She pointed at Chan and Katara.
"He's making her uncomfortable," Zuko said.
"Yeah, I know, so can we do it now?"
"Do it."
Mai pulled out her knives and threw them at Chan. They all narrowly missed him. Aang had come back and Katara ran up to him and gave him a hug.
"I can have you arrested for that!" he yelled at Mai.
"No, you can't," Zuko piped up.
"Yes I can, didn't you hear, you commoner? I'm the son of an Admiral, I'm not the son of some homeless man like you!" he yelled at Zuko.
"You still can't have me arrested," Zuko laughed.
"YES! I! CAN!"
"Nope," Zuko said to him. Plain and simple.
Chan ran at Zuko and used a firebending attack.
"You know I can have you arrested for that?" Zuko mocked him.
"What?" Chan asked, confused.
"You seriously haven't figured that out? I'm the Firelord."
There was silence.
"GUARDS, ARREST THIS MAN!" Chan said.
Guards started to flood the main room as the party guests looked for the exits. The guards immediately stopped and looked at Zuko in disbelief.
"We can't arrest this man... he's the Firelord," a guard said.
Chan's eyes widened in realization. He kneeled down to Zuko.
"Firelord Zuko, would you like us to arrest Chan?"
"No," Zuko said. "I want you to write to Admiral Chan that there will be consequences of his son ever sets foot on my property or disrespects me, my citizens, or my friends."
"Yessir, we'll get that written at once," a guard said.
The guards and the Gaang started to leave.
"You should count yourself lucky. Sparky happens to be one of the nicer Firelords. I couldn't even imagine the punishment Azula would've given you," Toph said to Chan.
There was no response or reaction. He sat there and kneeled. Something clicked in his brain.
"Wait, you're the one who came in and broke my stuff last time!" he said to Zuko.
"Yes, that was me. I'm wondering how you didn't recognize me until now."
An hour passed and the Gaang had left Chan in his deserted house. They sat around the living room. Talking about Chan.
"That guy deserved some sort of punishment!" Sokka said.
"Yeah! He was trying to hit on me and said some really rude things!" Katara said.
"He was a COMPLETE jerk," Sokka added.
"I don't know. I think this was the best way to handle things," Aang said.
"I agree with Aang," Zuko said. "Mai and I came here and destroyed his belongings, I was hoping it would teach him something. It clearly didn't work on him, so maybe this was a better punishment."
"It still would've been fun to destroy some of his stuff though," Mai said.
"She's right, it would've been so fun. Destroying, smashing things. We could go back and give him a piece of our mind!" Toph said.
"Maybe you're right, but I still think I made the right decision," Zuko said.
There was a long period of silence.
"I can't believe that tomorrow's the last day," Mai said.
"Aw man, I was really enjoying this vacation too," Suki said.
"Yeah, well, it's pretty late. I'm going to heading to bed," Sokka said as he walked upstairs.
Everyone else talked for a few more minutes and then went to bed.
