"Amber, what are you doing?" Cindy Vortex asked as she approached her friend at the park e afternoon. Amber turned around, blushing.
"H-hey, Cindy. Just… um… enjoying the park. What about you?" she asked.
"Jimmy and I are collecting plant samples for his news invention. He wants to find a way to end world hunger," Cindy eyed Amber. "So what're you really doing here?"
Amber gulped and tried to come up with a lie. But before she could, a voice rang out from behind the two girls. Turning around, Amber saw Liam O' Seagh, one of the new kids at school, strolling down the path, singing to himself.
Have you seen the old man in the closed-down market
Picking up the papers with his worn-out shoes
In his eyes, you see no pride and hanging loosely at his side
Yesterday's paper, telling yesterday's news
So how can you tell me you're lonely?
And say for you that the sun don't shine
Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something to make you change your mind
Cindy watched as Amber smiled warmly, her hand on her heart. "Oh, I getcha."
Amber looked at her smarter companion. "What?"
"You like Liam." Cindy smiled snarkily.
Amber blushed. "Yeah, okay, I think he's cute. Go ahead, Cin. Laugh it up."
"Amber, I'm not gonna laugh. But I am gonna ask why you're not making your move? You don't have to wait for Liam to notice you. Be noticeable." Cindy encouraged.
"It's more complicated than that, Cindy. Liam's not just some kid. His dad's an Irish diplomat. He's important. He's out of my league. He's…" Amber turned back to look at Liam, who was now feeding a squirrel from his hand. She smiled. "He's perfect."
Cindy crossed her arms. "He did slag my gold trophy."
"Well, you did make a mockery of Irish Riverdance." Amber pointed out.
"Everybody's a critic." Cindy muttered.
