December 22nd, 1994. Tuesday.
"Well," Wendy said as she folded up a copy of the Daily Prophet at lunch, "it's official. I have a date for the Yule Ball."
Alisson smirked. "Who? Was it to make Danny jealous?"
Wendy sighed. "For the last time, I am over Danny."
"Over!" Alisson practically screamed. "That means you liked him at some point!"
Wendy sighed again and poured herself some pumpkin juice. "Fine. I'll admit it. I did, and I was thinking we would go to the Yule Ball together. Was. Not anymore though... I've found someone I've been watching for a while. Actually, I've been noticing him for two years to be exact, counting this one."
"Who is it?" Selena asked, munching on a sweet apple. She tried to think of all the boys in Wendy's year, several coming to mind such as Dean Thomas, Seamus Finnigan, and Neville Longbottom.
Wendy looked at her, brown eyes suddenly fierce. "It doesn't matter. You two won't be there to see. And, I don't expect this to go further. I'm Muggle-born, remember? And seeing as how he's pure-blood-"
"Pure-blood!" Alisson shouted. "I'm narrowing it down!"
"And Slytherin," Wendy continued pointedly, as if she hadn't been interrupted, "I doubt we'll date or anything. A gala, and that's it."
"So he's a Slytherin, and is a pure-blood going to the dance with a Muggle-born Gryffindor," Sasha said from a few seats down, overhearing the conversation. She glanced between the trio of girls, dark hair spilling over her shoulder. "This doesn't seem right."
Selena smiled and spooned some eggs onto her golden plate. Wendy seemed flustered, so she changed the subject. "You know, it's Tuesday, December 22nd."
Sasha nodded. "I do. Why?"
Selena smiled. Damon's birthday. "No reason."
Wendy sighed once again as she finished her pumpkin juice, setting her goblet down with a clank. "Well, lunch is almost over. What do you say we go up to the Common Room and play a game or something?"
Alisson nodded. "Okay. How about Wizard Chess?"
Wendy knitted her brows. "I lost a piece."
The four girls all got up, leaving the Great Hall. They chatted as they walked back up to Gryffindor Tower.
"What, run away from you?" Alisson teased, still talking about chess.
Wendy sighed. "Banana Fritters," she said to the Fat Lady, who nodded approvingly, and the painting swung open.
Once they'd crawled through the portrait hole and hopped down into the warm Common Room, the first thing Selena noticed was Annabeth Black's voice: "I didn't say that, Harry!"
Sasha looked at her friends. "What's going on?"
Alisson shrugged. "Who knows..."
"One way to find," Selena said, a nervous tendril winding through her stomach. Anne sounded too distraught for it to be a friendly argument. Though, Selena knew, she and Harry Potter were best friends still, despite having broken up over the summer. Selena stepped inside the main Common Room and was immediately met with Anne and Harry standing in the way of the dorm stairs, arguing.
Anne's hair was in its normal red curls, slightly messy. Her face was turning the nearly the same shade, making her sapphire eyes seem dangerously bright. For just a moment, Selena could have sworn that the ends of Anne's hair sparked like a flame, and then it was gone. The young Gryffindor blinked, the argument continuing as neither of the Fourth Years noticed them.
"But you did! It's not my fault, Anne! I told you!" Harry replied, waving his arms. "I didn't do anything, I didn't put my name in, you know that."
Selena help but raise her eyebrows. They're talking about Harry being in the Triwizard Tournament, aren't they?
"I know, but Harry, you... well... I heard you asked Cho Chang to the Yule Ball!" Anne screamed.
Harry was silent for a moment before, the quietness settling on the Common Room to the point where even the paintings were still. Then, "what has that got to do with anything?"
Anne shook her head, fiery curls bouncing around. "It has everything to do with everything, Harry! Ugh, I can't believe you think you can't trust me."
Harry stiffened a bit. "I didn't... I do trust you-"
Anne took a step closer, her expression showing some cracks in her furious facade. "Not like you used to. And I can't blame you... but I wish you would take my word for it one last time."
"Annie-" Harry began.
With that, Anne spun from Harry and ran up the stairs, not stopping until she slammed her dorm door shut, Selena jumping.
Harry looked down at the rug, knotting his hands in his hair, whispering something Selena's couldn't hear to himself. He turned, his green eyes finding the group of girls with a start. "Oh, er, sorry..." He looked around awkwardly before he pushed his glasses up the bridge of us his nose and hurried out of the Common Room, moving past them as if his life depended on it.
Selena turned around to face her friends. "Uh..."
Sasha sighed. "I'm going to go talk to Annabeth... Dee, come with me..." The two older girls walked up the spiraling stone steps, muttering to each other.
Alisson sighed as well, turning to Selena. "I think I'm just going to go... Shouldn't you be getting to... his birthday party."
Selena grinned. "Renee told you."
Alisson shrugged and offered a smile. "She talks in her sleep."
Outside on the Hogwarts Grounds, near the Black Lake...
Selena couldn't help but beam as she saw Damon's blond hair. He was standing in front of the Black Lake on the pebbly shore, Slytherin scarf billowing in the wind. It was a cloudy day, one with blankets of gray sky behind the mountains surrounding them. Even the Forbidden Forest looked especially bone-chilling, more so than usual.
She walked down the grassy slope as pulled her cloak tighter against the cold, and grinned as he noticed her.
"Hey, Sel." He smiled and waved.
She walked closer to him. "Hi. So... Happy Fifteenth Birthday!"
He smiled again, cheeks and nose bitten pink from the weather. "Thanks!"
Selena held out the present box she'd brought. Green paper and a white bow adorned it, not to mention the holes punched into the box. "Here..."
He grinned. "You didn't have to get me something."
She shrugged. "I know... Just open it."
Damon smiled and started to take the top off of the gift box-
"Damon! Sorry I'm late!"
The voice coming from the hill was familiar, all bonny and clear. Damon's face lit up, and Selena turned around.
She saw Kellie Jo Clark running down the hill, a small black box in her hands. "Damon... Sorry... I'm late..." she panted.
Damon laughed cheerily. "It's fine... Glad you're here, though."
Selena looked at him, and wasn't sure if it was the cold wind again, but it looked suspiciously like he was blushing.
Selena turned to face the approaching girl, and smiled at her. "Hey, Jojo. It's great to see you again! How are you?"
Jojo smiled, her black combat boots crunching on the pebbles beneath them. "I'm feeling well, thanks."
Selena nodded, swallowing uneasily as Kellie and Damon hugged, their embrace lasting a little longer than she would've expected for friends. When they broke apart, Jojo handed Damon the black gift box, flashing a smile.
"For you. Happy Birthday." She reached up, ruffling his hair.
Selena smiled tightly at the two, quickly gathering that she was the third wheel. "You two seem really close."
Jojo smiled back, and stepped beside Damon, putting her arm on his shoulder.
"Well, I should hope so," she said. "We are dating. I'm his girlfriend."
SURPRISE!
I know, did your jaw drop at the end? I know, I know. Jojo and Damon? What?
But, they are both in the same house. She is a year younger than him, though. Do you think this will last? And did I just make some of you frustrated? I know a lot of you are rooting for Dalena.
But now it's... Jomon. That dosen't sound very good... Oh well!
And this does have a second part. ;D Mwa-hah-hah-ha! A cliff-hanger! Oooh, what will happen?
And I can't believe no one guessed that the surprise included Jojo! She and Selena did meet on the train. And how do you think Selena feels about this? Remember, she hasn't expressed if she's romantically interested in Damon...
Anywho, take my poll! It's the pairings!
ALSO! I will give the Yule Ball chapter 1 day earlier to the first person to guess who Wendy is going to the dance with. Also, provide me with an example of why you think so. =)
Well, thanks for reading!
