Chapter 4 Escape and safety

A/N: Gravespawn chapter 4 will make it all easier.

As Callum reached the top of the staircase he felt Azymondias squirm and whimper in his sling as he looked down the hallway as looking for any patrolling guards before turning around nodding to Rayla as he walked into the hallway with her in tow as the tried to sneak out of the castle.

Callum turned a corner to see a pair of guards walking the other way as he and Rayla quietly ran down the hallway towards an exit onto the battlements before freezing as something began to feel wrong very wrong as he looked around hearing faint foot-steps out and about the courtyard before turning around to face Rayla "This way" Callum said leading her down a different hallway towards the main castle area as they reached the staircase towards the king's chambers.

Rayla leaned against the wall as she let a slight wheeze escape her mouth making Callum turn his head to eye her with caution "Why couldn't leave in the dark of the night?" Rayla asked a she looked up at Callum "Because your kin has a three-day head start ahead of us" Callum replied bluntly as he grabbed Rayla's hand and brought her up the steps as two guards stood at the door seemingly waiting for Callum as he stopped in his tracks "King Callum Lord Viren and Claudia were here looking for you" the guard said as Callum stood at the stairs thinking on how to get rid of them.

Rayla stood behind Callum cursing to herself with worry as she might be caught "Okay thank you would one of you go and fetch either Viren or Claudia and the other goes and gets some food and drink please?" Callum kindly asked hoping the guards would leave allowing Callum and Rayla enter the king's bedroom without any more problems "Yes m' lord" They both said bowing as they left their posts.

Callum sighed with relief as the guards left before walking rather quickly towards the bedroom opening the door rather quickly eyeing Rayla in the hallway as he nodded watching her seemingly sprint right into the room without making any noise at all as Callum quickly closed the doors behind them, Rayla had turned around to face him with her hands on her ribs as Callum walked past her towards the king's bedside tables pulling out a bag.

The Katoilis forest

Ram groaned as Andromeda and Callisto lifted him before yelling in pain "Stop, Stop, put me down I can't go on" Ram said as he clutched his leg as Callisto pulled up his pant leg and taking off his boot seeing how is foot is starting to go red as Ezran looked up at the mountain hoping that he can sneak away from the elves "You have an infection in your leg Ram" Callisto said "And we don't have any medical supplies" Andromeda said as Runaan pinched the bridge of his nose sighing in defeat "Look I promise your families that I would try to get most of you home but we have already lost Rayla and Skor I can't lose many more of you" Runaan said he eyed Ezran who had lowered his head and closed his eyes if he was asleep.

Runaan put Ram on his shoulders as they began to get ready to move when a sudden growl sounded out near them as the elves turned around to see a large banther approach Ezran laid down on his side and rolled over into the bushes and began to crawl into the undergrowth and headed for the cursed caldera if the elves follow him up the mountain he hoped the monsters kill them as they were more threatening than he was.

As the banther walked past them snarling as it trotted off leaving the elves alone as it appeared uninterested in them "Well that was…" Callisto said as he turned around to see an empty spot "He's gone!" Callisto yelled as the fellow elves turned as Runaan turned with shock "Fuck" he muttered as Callisto and Andromeda ran off into the forest to catch Ezran before he escaped and was found by humans.

Ezran faintly heard one of the elves yell as he cowered in the crook of a tree as he stood up trying to get loose of the bonds when he saw smoke nearby feeling his heart race with joy as he broke into a run for the town before the elves captured him again.

Katoilis castle.

Callum had put the small bag on the bed as Azymondias chirped and wiggled his way out of Callum's arm and landing on the bed as the chain rattled as Rayla walked over clutching her left side letting a faint wheeze as a sudden knock on the door made Rayla freeze as Callum grabbed her arm and dragged her towards the divider and as Azymondias hid in the pillows of the bed.

Callum tucked the chain under the pillows as Claudia's voice called out on the other side of the door "Callum open up" she called out as Callum groaned as he walked over towards the door unlocking it at it swung open knocking down onto the ground as Claudia landed on top of him as he grunted in pain as Claudia jumped off him with worry "Sorry Callum we were worried about you we have been trying to find you" Claudia says as she lifts Callum to examine his arm.

Callum groaned as Claudia gently lift's his arm, squeezing his hand as he clutched his shoulder, "Can you feel that?" she asked with concern "I can feel pain in my shoulder but I can't feel anything lower" Callum said as a sudden chirp echoed out in the room.

Claudia looked around in the room as Callum held his breath as Pip chirped in his cage "Pip…" Callum said under his breath hoping Claudia would be fooled as she looked at the cage as a guard knocked on the door "My king chef Barius is here" she said as Claudia looked at them before lowering Callum's arm as she reached into her bag looking for another vial.

Claudia handed Callum another vial which had a pinkish fluid in it as he took it from Claudia with his good arm as another chirp sounded out in the room as he eyed Pip again "I think he's trying to say he's sorry" Callum said as Pip cocked his head to the side as Claudia let a small smile show "Hopefully he is, is there anything else you need before you grieve for the rest of the day?" Claudia asked as she gently put Callum's arm back in the sling before hugging him "No" Callum whispered in her ear.

Rayla listened very carefully to the conversation that the two humans were having together as she rolled her eyes at the humans before she held her breath as Azymondias chirped in the king's bed as both humans went silent before Callum said "Pip" which kinda made Rayla relax a little before a guard said that food was arriving which made her feel slightly better as she had barely eaten since she had been captured.

As Barius brought food around to Callum he blushed at the sight of him Claudia being close together "Pardon me, my lord, I bring you food" Barius said as Callum and Claudia moved aside allowing the chef to enter "Thank you Barius that will be all" Callum said as he gently pulled Claudia towards him allowing Barius to enter who in return gave Callum another gentle hug "I'll leave you to grieve for but the kingdom needs you, Callum, please be strong" Claudia said trying to reassure Callum who let a tear trickle down his cheek "Thanks, Claudia that means a lot" Callum said as Claudia gently kissed his cheek.

As Barius sat the tray down another near the privy rack he saw a green shirt in the gap of the unit "Barius lets go" Claudia said as Callum's face paled as he saw where Barius put the food and gulped hoping that he didn't spot Rayla as he stood and walked towards him following Claudia out of the room as the door closed Callum let out a sigh of relief as Rayla stepped out from behind the privy rack looking at him with a disgusted look.

Near the mountain village.

Ezran ran through the snow puffing and wheezing before stumbling into the snow from exhaustion as the sun had begun to set and the temperature around him started to colder as he slowly stood up he saw the village he heard a loud and concerned bark before fainting face first into the snow "What is it Ava?" said a young feminene voice as she approached Ezran seeing him lying face down in the snow.

As Ava prodded Ezran with her nose Ellis gently rolled him onto his back she noticed that he had bruising around his mouth and lips as well as cuts and some bruising around his wrists as a soft and weak groan escaped his bruised mouth "Ellis, Ellis what is it?" her mother called out as Ellis turned around to face her parents "Mom it's a…" Ellis said as her father approached "Ellis sweety it better not be another…" her father said gasping before stripping his jacket off as he gently wrapped it around Ezran before picking him up.

Ellis looked at her dad with concern "Is he gonna be alright?" Ellis asked as her father carried Ezran back to their home "Hopefully, poor kid is cold and tired" He said as they entered the village heading towards their home.

Forest near the village

Runaan and the other assassins looked on as a family of humans picked up the prince and carried him back towards the village before cussing to himself as Prince Ezran was safe in human hands for now but deep down he knew that him and the others need rest "What will we do now Runaan?" Callisto asked as both he and Runaan jumped down off the tree "We go in and get him at night" Runaan said as Andromeda sat Ram down with a pained groan "We need some medical supplies as well" Andromeda said looking down at Ram giving him a reassuring squeeze on the shoulder.

Callisto grabbed Andromeda on the shoulder getting her attention silienting telling her that both of them will go as she nodded in return before standing up "We'll go Runaan" Andromeda said as she and Callisto approached Runaan who nodded as Ram groaned before turn around to face the village as he got his bow and arrows out before kneeling near the tree as the other looked at him "And… if you get followed by humans… we'll stop them" Ram said breathing hard in pain as Runaan nodded before looking at the nearby mountain smirking.

The elves all looked at Runaan as he smirked before pointing at the cursed caldera "We'll meet over there when you have the blasted prince" Runaan said before grabbing Ram and lifting him over his shoulders as he bit down on his lip to muffle the pain in his leg before facing Callisto and Andromeda nodding at them as both he and Ram left to go to the cursed caldera while Andromeda and Callsito left to go and retrieve Ezran.

Kings bedroom

As Callum and Rayla packed the bags Rayla saw that Callum had Shor's sword and clothes with him as well as he closed the bag as the sun began to set seeing that it was time to leave the put the bags over their backs a horn bugle sounded out as Callum's face changed colour he ran out to the balcony seeing that Amaya has arrived as he quietly cussed to himself before running back in to Rayla as she tried to picked Azymondias up but he scampered into Callums arm's as he tucked himself into the sling cooing as Callum groaned kneeling down on his left knee with the additional weight being put on before painfully gasping as he stood up seeing Rayla look at him with a slightly concerned look "We need to leave now my elven hating aunt has arrived and will not take kindly to seeing me helping you escape" Callum said as he walked past Rayla and headed towards the door as Rayla suddenly wrapped a hand over his mouth before dragging him back towards the balcony door as the "Shh trust me" she whispered into his ear as they stepped onto the balcony as the bedroom door suddenly flew open.

Viren and Claudia open the door into the bedroom looking for Callum gasping in shock seeing that the bedroom was empty again as they both groaned "Where did he go this time" Viren said as Claudia walked around seeing the room slightly disorganized and most of the food gone before Soren suddenly stormed in "Father… the she elf… has… escaped" Soren said between puffs before collapsing onto the ground.

While outside on the balcony Callum, Rayla and Azymondias climbed over the railings and reversed across the roof of the castle praying that they wouldn't get seen.
