Nobody in Particular
Mrs. Hertz's Classroom
POV Lila's
We're all in Mrs. Hertz's class, she's going over how we did on our recent exams. I'm sitting by myself today. Sissi and Mia are sitting next to me. Jeremy is sitting by himself. Ulrich and Odd are both sitting in different seats. Aelita too. Kayori is in the back.
"Right, quiet down please. Across the board, the results from the last test were far from brilliant. Your grades were almost all C's and D's. Obviously, as always, there are exceptions. Belpois, I gave you an A-minus. The minus was a reminder that there is no such thing as perfection," Mrs. Hertz says. Mrs. Hertz goes over to Sissi and Mia.
"Elizabeth, I am pleased to see you improving. You received a C," Mrs. Hertz says. Sissi smiles and Mrs. Hertz then looks at Mia.
"Bedard, good but not excellent. C plus," Mrs. Hertz says. Mia nods and Mrs. Hertz goes over to Ulrich.
"Stern, you are clearly pushing the limits of your "I don't care attitude," Mrs. Hertz tells him. When she does, Herb and Nicholas starts chuckling. "A nucleus is not made of a crouton, but a proton. D-minus. If my memory serves, and mine is more reliable than yours, you promised you'd put in an honest effort, didn't you? Whereas it seems quite clear to me you didn't even glance at your notes. This is not going to help you at the academic review tomorrow morning," she chastises. Nicholas's chuckle has turned into pretty loud laughter now, it's honestly annoying, so Mrs. Hertz looks at him.
"Poliakoff, zero!" she exclaims. Nicholas stops laughing and I can't help but smile. "A kilogram of mercury does not weigh a ton. So if I were you, I'd stop snickering like an idiot," she chastises, walking over to him. I look at Ulrich, he has his hand on his head. I can't help but feel bad for him. Even though Mrs. Hertz didn't give my grade yet, I have a feeling I did just as well as Jeremy.
Afterwards
Inside the cafeteria
We'd already gotten our trays of food for lunch, most of us are done, and Ulrich has been relaying to Yumi what happened in class. Aelita, Jeremy, and I are sitting on one side. Kayori is sitting at the end next to me. Mia is sitting at the other end of the table. Sissi, Odd, Ulrich, and Yumi are sitting across from Aelita, Jeremy, and I.
"Don't worry, it'll work out fine," Odd says, trying to reassure him.
"Doubt it, Hertz is going to do everything she can to transfer me to ninth grade remedial," Ulrich says, his hand on his cheek.
"I can always try and talk to my father. See if I can't persuade him or something," Sissi offers.
"Thanks Sissi, but I'm not too sure it'll work out," Ulrich says.
"But Ulrich, they wouldn't do that. Not in the middle of the year," Yumi says.
"With my rotten grades, don't bet on it. My parents are going to kill me, and finding time to fight Xana is going to be a real nightmare," Ulrich says.
"Come on Ulrich, nothing has been decided yet," Aelita says.
"Aelita's right. Besides, if Sissi can get Delmas to help out, he might be able to persuade Mrs. Hertz," Mia says.
"Nothing is set in stone, Ulrich," I say. Ulrich shrugs and Jeremy says:
"They're right. Anyway, speaking of transfers, I've finally found a way to virtualize you directly into Sector Five. Not bad, huh?"
"Wow, that's pretty cool," Kayori says. Odd finishes up his soup. He swallows it and then asks:
"So, you mean without going through the transporter?"
"Yeah, that's right, by interpolating the source codes in quantum space, we can get around the Heisenberg uncertainty theory. The only risk is coming up with a mathematical singularity," he explains.
He really needs to learn to make things simpler for us. I know I got a B plus on my exam and all, but that doesn't mean I understand his technical talk, I think.
Kayori blinks at Jeremy, a bit bewildered.
"Um, come again?" she asks.
"In English, Einstein?" Odd asks.
"Right. Um… it can work, but it's dangerous. Before I can be really sure I'm going to need a, um…" Jeremy trails off, his finger on his chin. He looks down.
"A guinea pig?" Odd asks. Jeremy looks up and removes his finger.
"Right," Jeremy answers. "Any volunteers?" he asks. None of us give him an answer. Odd gathers a handful of string beans in his hand. He holds it out.
"The shortest string is it," he says, placing his hand on the table. We all take a string bean, hold them up, and smile. Sissi's is the shortest. Odd looks at Sissi with concern.
"I guess I'm it, then. Great," Sissi says, sarcastically.
"We'll run the tests tonight at 8 o'clock. Okay?" Jeremy asks her.
"That's fine, Jeremy," Sissi replies. Ulrich takes his soda, I think it's cherry.
"Odd, give this to Sissi. If it weren't for her, I'd probably be on the short end," Ulrich says. Odd gives the soda to Sissi and smiles.
"Thanks Ulrich," she says, and opens the soda.
Let's just hope this goes well… I think.
Later at night
Sector Five
Arena Room
The Transporter Orb drops us off. It leaves. The floor and walls are spinning but everything slows down then soon stops. The doorway opens but we don't need to worry about that.
"Tell me guys, did you get to the arena?" Jeremy asks.
"Yes we did, Jeremy," I answer.
Yumi walks a bit forward and looks up. "We're good, Jeremy. We're standing by to welcome Sissi."
"Loud and clear, Yumi," Jeremy says.
"Let's just hope things go okay," I say, still concerned about this.
"I'm sure it will," Kayori says. She puts her hand on my shoulder, trying to reassure me. I smile a bit and she lets go.
"And besides, Einstein knows what he's doing," Odd adds.
"Most of the time," Ulrich says.
"Hold on now. Sissi is going to be with you soon."
We separate a bit to make sure Sissi will have enough room when she lands.
"Virtualization!" Jeremy exclaims. Looking up, we wait to see Sissi virtualize. But nobody came.
This can't be a good sign, I think.
"Where is she?" Odd asks, concerned.
"The virtualization did take place. She should have appeared next to you."
"Maybe she was transferred to the wrong place," Aelita suggests.
"Let's hope that's the case," Mia says.
"I'll do a search, but I can't see how." There's a short pause. "Oh no! Impossible."
"Why? What's wrong Einstein?" Odd asks.
"She.. she doesn't even show up on the screens anymore."
"Do you want us to sweep Sector Five and see if we can spot her?" Aelita asks.
"And have Xana take advantage of the situation to pull something dirty on us? No thanks. I'll run a search from here."
We regroup. Odd and I look at each other with concern.
"You'd better come back in. I'll rematerialize you now."
Afterwards
Inside the lab
Jeremy has the map of Lyoko on the main screen of the computer. We're all in front of him by the chair. It isn't good news.
"Nothing in the mountain sector. Nothing in the arena. Nothing in the celestial dome. The core of Lyoko. And not a trace of her in Sector Five, either," Jeremy says.
"What are you saying?" Odd asks.
"Sissi has… disappeared…" Jeremy answers, trailing off. "I don't know what to do." We can't help but look at him with some disappointment.
Afterwards
On the bridge
All of us are walking on the bridge.
"I don't get this. In spite of all of my research, I haven't managed to localize her. I'll still keep searching from my room computer. She's got to be somewhere," Jeremy says. He stops walking and so do we, he turns to Odd who has been silent this entire time. Can't say I blame him, really, we're all upset.
"Go on, keep trying. But the truth is… you messed up! And big time! Sissi could be gone forever!" Odd shouts, shocking all of us.
Afterwards
Kayori and Emily's room
POV Kayori's
I open the door to mine and Emily's room, I close it quietly. I look at her bed, she's actually still up. She's on her phone texting a certain someone…
"Emily?" I ask, still upset with the whole Sissi thing. She looks at me and stops texting him.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing… I'm just surprised to see you up this late," I lie. She sits up on her bed and I go to my bed. I sit too.
"Well, you know there are only certain days and times I can talk to Cameron. He's pretty busy these days," she explains.
"I know, you've mentioned," I say.
Inside Sissi and Mia's room
POV Mia's
It's so different without her here… I can't help but wonder if this is some sort of cosmic joke on Lila. She's the one who put Sissi in this group. It was supposed to be Ulrich from what my father told me. Not Sissi. I sigh, looking at my ceiling. I turn to an electric outlet and notice a white smoke coming out of it. I raise my eyebrow, and the smoke soon turns into Sissi. She places her feet on the floor. I'm about to say something, but then I remember…
"Mary?" I ask. Mary nods, and she's in one of Sissi's pajama outfits.
"Lila told me what happened," Mary explains. She walks over to Sissi's bed.
"I'm here to buy all of you some time. I'll be posing as Sissi," she mentions.
"Okay… that works, I suppose," I say and Mary lays her head down on Sissi's pillow.
"Can you even sleep?" I ask her.
"I can. When I was recovering, I had to go into a sleep mode of sorts. I don't necessarily need it, however," she explains.
"Right… well sleep tight then, Mary," I say.
"Good night, Mia," Mary says back to me. I try closing my eyes.
The Next Day
The boy's dorm floor
POV Lila's
It was hard to sleep last night. The others know Mary will be taking Sissi's place for the time being. I'm sure Odd isn't thrilled about it, but it's the least I can do. I feel like this is some sort of cosmic joke. This shouldn't have happened to Sissi. Odd and Ulrich are waiting for us by Jeremy's door. Odd has Kiwi nestled in his arms. Aelita, Kayori, and I meet at Jeremy's door. Aelita knocks on the door.
"Come in," Jeremy calls. Aelita opens the door and we go in. She closes the door behind her. Jeremy is typing on his keyboard. Odd closes the door, still holding Kiwi in his arms.
"Well? Anything new?" Aelita asks.
"Please, tell me you have something," I say. Jeremy turns to us and stops typing.
"No, nothing. Still no sign of Sissi," Jeremy replies. "Mary offering to pose as Sissi for the day gives us some extra time to localize her."
"It does, but what if we don't find her?" Ulrich asks.
"Don't talk like that, Ulrich. Come on, she couldn't have just disappeared into thin air," Odd says.
I can tell Jeremy looks tired, he's probably been up all night. "I must have made a mistake somewhere but for now I don't know where I could have messed up."
Kiwi starts barking for some strange reason.
"What's wrong with him?" Kayori asks.
"Not sure. Kiwi, will you cut that out?" Odd asks him. Kiwi continues barking and then jumps out of Odd's arms.
"Maybe an emergent property appeared in the algorithms, and altered the virtualization. It's possible," Aelita surmises, her finger on her chin.
"In my opinion, I think it's more like a big mistake on someone's part," Sissi says. Our eyes widen hearing Sissi's voice.
"Sissi, is that you? Where are you?" Odd asks.
"I'm not imagining things, right? All of us heard that?" Ulrich asks. We nod.
"Down here," Sissi says. We look down and see that Kiwi is talking.
"That's fantastic. All of my training methods have finally paid off. Kiwi's talking," Odd says.
I don't think that's Kiwi, Odd… I think.
"Seriously, Odd? I know I've been gone for half a day but give me some credit here," Sissi says. "It's me, Sissi. From inside Kiwi's body."
Odd bends down, looking at Kiwi.
"What are you doing inside my dog? That's crazy," he says.
"It was sort of by accident. Thanks to him; I can talk to you. Otherwise, it's just like I was some sort of disembodied ghost," she explains.
"So my girlfriend is a -" Odd is about to engage in some once-in-a-lifetime wordplay, but she growls at him.
"Finish that sentence and I'll bite you," she threatens.
"Okay, okay," Odd says. Aelita can't help but giggle. Jeremy turns his chair completely to us. He gets up from his chair and snaps his fingers, making a realization.
"I think I know what happened. During the virtualization, Sissi's body and mind got separated," he explains.
"Is that why you couldn't find her on Lyoko?" Kayori asks.
"That's right, because it's not Sissi who's there. It's just her inanimate body. Her corporal envelope, which doesn't give the same signal," Jeremy replies.
"Do you think you can put me back together?" Sissi asks.
Jeremy has his finger on his chin, thinking about it. "Since we have no classes today, I'll go back to the computer lab with Aelita to run another search," he replies. He bends down and Sissi turns Kiwi's body to look at Jeremy. "Once we locate your body, I'm sure we can find a way to put you back into it. Okay?" he asks.
"How long do you think that'll be?" Sissi asks.
"I hope to have it worked out by this afternoon," Jeremy answers.
"That's great. And where's Mary? I overheard you saying she's posing as me today?" Sissi asks.
"She is," I reply. "She should be in yours and Mia's room. Why?"
"I want to try something out. I have an idea," Sissi says.
"An idea? For what?" Ulrich asks.
Sissi doesn't respond. Instead Kiwi starts barking again.
"Sissi? Are you still there?" Odd asks. Kiwi turns to him and continues barking. Ulrich suddenly realizes something.
"I've got the academic review today! I almost forgot, I've got to prepare! You guys will let Yumi know, right?" Ulrich asks.
"Of course," Jeremy replies. Ulrich nods and walks to the door. He opens it and walks out, he closes the door.
Later
Inside the cafeteria
POV Mary's
Someone's throwing food in the cafeteria. I'm sitting next to Lila, who is not amused by this "food fight." Aelita and Jeremy are sitting next to each other. Odd and Ulrich are sitting next to one another. Kayori is on one end of the table and Yumi is sitting at the head of the table.
How wasteful. This is why humans disappoint me. Yet they wonder why there is starvation in the world, Future Xana chastises.
I'm inclined to agree. I am pleased to see some of the Lyoko Warriors aren't into this... I think. Jim is trying to get everyone to stop.
"That's enough! All of you stop at once!" Jim exclaims. The students stop throwing food, but Odd gets on the table and shouts:
"Fire away!"
The students resume throwing food, including Odd. That's when Mr. Delmas opens the door to the cafeteria. A lot of the students are surprised to see him. When he walks in they stop and everyone settles down. Jim is surprised to see him, too.
"Sir, not to worry, I've got things covered here," Jim mentions.
"Not from where I'm standing," Mr. Delmas chastises. His voice sounds a bit off. He sounds like he has a cold or something.
"Who started this?" he asks. A lot of the students point to Odd who goes back to his seat. Mr. Delmas walks over to our table and scans all of us. He nods.
"Right. Well, all of you… detention! Now!" Mr. Delmas exclaims.
"But sir, we-" Lila says, but I interrupt her.
"Let's just go, Lila. There's no point in arguing with my father," I say, getting up. Mia gets up too without an issue. The others follow. We walk with Mr. Delmas and before he leaves, he tells Jim:
"Get the students to clean all of this up. Or they all get detention," he threatens.
"Sir!" Jim exclaims, saluting him.
"You heard your principal, who wants to volunteer to help clean?" He asks. We hear more than a number of students mumbling as we make our way out.
Outside
POV Lila's
"Well, Mary, Mia, how did I do?" 'Mr. Delmas' asks, but I quickly realize it's actually Sissi in there, since she's speaking in her regular voice.
"That was you the whole time, Sissi?!" I exclaim, impressed.
"It was," Sissi replies.
"She had this idea so Mary and I agreed to play along," Mia explains.
"You were amazing, Sissi," Mary compliments.
"But how did you possess your father?" Yumi asks.
"It was easy. And since he's my father, I knew how to impersonate him just well enough so no one would be suspicious," Sissi explains.
"So, um, do we really have detention then?" Kayori asks.
"No, of course not," Sissi replies.
"Ulrich?" she asks.
"Yeah?" he asks.
"I'll be defending you during your academic review. Well, my father will be," Sissi replies.
"That's great. Nice going, Sissi," Odd compliments.
"Yeah, that was really smart," Yumi agrees.
"I really appreciate this, Sissi. Thanks," Ulrich says.
"Kayori Avalon!" Mrs. Hertz exclaims, we turn to her. "It's time for the class review. You are the class representative, after all. You too, Stern! I hope you're prepared. Mr. Delmas, what are you doing with these children? Shouldn't you be on your way?" She asks.
"Yes Suzanne, I am. Just had to settle a matter in the lunchroom," 'Mr. Delmas' replies. Sissi, Ulrich, and Kayori make their way to Mrs. Hertz.
My cell phone rings. Taking it out of my pocket, I look at the ID and see that it's Jeremy calling. I press the answer button and put the phone to my ear.
"Please tell me you have some good news," I say.
"Not quite. There's something wrong with Sissi's body. It seems it's moving on its own," he explains.
"And I take it's not normal?" I ask.
"Of course not. Without Sissi's brain, it shouldn't do anything. Better get over here as soon as you can," Jeremy replies.
"Odd, Mia, and Yumi are with me. Kayori and Ulrich are at the academic review," I inform. "We're on our way."
Lyoko's Mountain Sector
I'm the last one to be virtualized to the mountain sector. I land on my feet in a crouch position and stand upright. Odd, Yumi, Aelita, Mia, and I start running on the mountainous path to make our way to the edge of the sector. Mary had decided to stay back at the school so no one is suspicious about Sissi's absence. We continue running and then stop in the middle of the path.
"We're okay Jeremy, we've reached the end of the sector," Yumi informs.
"Okay, I'm sending you the transporter," Jeremy says.
We look up to see the Transporter Orb hovering down to us from out of nowhere. It opens and scoops all of us up.
Sector Five
Arena Room
The Transporter Orb touches down and releases all of us. The floor and walls start slowing down. Odd doesn't look sick this time either.
"It's a good thing we had that food fight," Odd comments.
"You know, Odd, that was a waste of good food," I chastise.
Odd shrugs and everything in the room stops, the doorway opens. All of us start running. We run in the doorway. We soon reach the second set of walls. The walls start opening one by one, so we start running again.
Afterwards
We make it to the new room, and this time there's a bridge connecting us to the key mechanism, which is easily spotted at the end of the bridge.
"The key is over there, just on the other side," Aelita points.
"Let's go," Mia says.
We start running, but then pillars from the ceiling fall down onto the bridge.
"Talk about a game of dodge," Odd jokes.
The moving blocks go back up. We start running, Odd on both paws and feet, and pass the first block. Aelita and I are stopped by a moving block. Odd, Yumi, and Mia are able to get ahead of us. But then we quickly make our way around the moving block and follow them. With Odd running on both paws and feet, he's able to easily dodge the moving blocks. The rest of us girls are not having it as easy. Aelita, Mia, and I stop when the floor descends. Yumi and Odd just jump off the floor and land on the descending floor. Yumi cartwheels back up and Odd leaps into the air and lands safely on the next floor. Aelita, Mia, and I drop below to the descended floor, and then leap up. Mia and I are able to reach the floor, but it starts descending when Aelita grabs it with both hands. Mia and I pull Aelita up, helping her just before block from the ceiling smashes into the floor. We keep on running. Yumi and Odd are close to the key mechanism. We slide on the floor, since Aelita, Mia, and I aren't close enough. Several moving blocks are about to crush us. Aelita yelps, but then they stop when Yumi presses the key mechanism. It lights up and folds into the Xana symbol. The moving blocks ascend back into the ceiling.
"At your service," Yumi bows. The door opens and we start running.
"This way, ladies," Odd says, gesturing for us to go in first. We start running down.
"Now. Take the next passage on your left," Jeremy informs. Seeing the turn, we take it and run down the passage. We soon enter a new room.
"Now go right," Jeremy says. Looking around, we turn right. We enter the new room which has another bridge, except it's a bit bigger than the room that had the key mechanism in it. We spot Sissi, well, rather, her body.
"Sissi?" Odd asks.
Sissi's body turns to us and her eyes have the Xana symbol in them. They pulse when she makes a fist, causing Yumi to yelp in surprise. She starts running rather quickly, almost spectre like, leaving after images in her wake. She turns right and runs.
"Let's go!" Odd exclaims. We start running, Odd is running on both his paws and feet again, we try to catch up with her.
"She's closing in on the great hall of the core of Lyoko. Try not to lose her, okay?"
"That's easy for you to say, she's fast!" Yumi exclaims, while running.
"Yeah, it's no picnic, Einstein!" Odd exclaims. We enter a doorway and another a new room, but she's not in sight.
"Jeremy?" Aelita asks.
"She changed directions. Do you see another way out?"
"Not really, just a shaft," Mia replies.
"That's it. Jump."
We run to the edge and then jump down the shaft. We reach yet another new room and run down the stairs.
"She's reached the chamber of the core of Lyoko," Jeremy informs. "Hurry up," he urges. We make our way into the new room. It's another bridge. We run until we come to a dead end. Nothing but a wall in front of us.
"Can you see a way in?"
"Negative Einstein, a dead end," Odd replies.
"Oh, what rotten luck!" Jeremy exclaims. We look up. "Xana must have opened a passage for her leading directly to the core of Lyoko."
"What about you? Can you do the same?" Yumi asks.
"No, but I wish I could. You'll have to go via the celestial dome," Jeremy answers.
"We're on it," I say.
"We'll take the elevator," Aelita says. Looking at each other, we nod and we start making our way there.
Afterwards
At the elevator area
"Hurry, the sphere just took a thirty point energy hit," Jeremy informs as we've reached the waiting spot for the elevator.
Hearing the elevator coming, Aelita shouts:
"Now!" All of us jump down and land on the elevator safely.
"Jeremy, we're almost there. Can you program our vehicles?" Yumi asks.
"On it," Jeremy answers.
Afterwards
Celestial Dome
Having reached the bridge by the Celestial Dome, we're on our vehicles now, making our way to the core. Odd tilts his Overboard, urging it to go faster.
"Odd, we're going to make things right, don't push yourself too much," Mia says.
"Right," Odd says. We continue flying to the Celestial Dome. The bottom part opening and closing, we wait for an opening and then go in.
Chamber Core of Lyoko
Looking up, I see Sissi's baton has been extended but it's somehow sending energy to the sphere of Lyoko. Cocking his paw, Odd aims it at Sissi and fires his Laser Arrows at her. Several of them fly at her and meet their mark causing her to stop her energy attack. Aelita, Mia, and I start leaping up the stairs, while Odd stays behind to attack Sissi. He fires off another round of Laser Arrows. Looking at her as we leap up the stairs, the Laser Arrows hit Sissi's body. She bends down but her body isn't shocked.
Three Mantas fly over to Sissi's body, with no Xana Bots accompanying them, thankfully. Running up the stairs, Mia opens her pouch. One Manta flies down to us, while the other two remains at Sissi's shoulders, guarding her. Yumi and Mia block the incoming lasers from the Manta that just flew down. The two Mantas guarding Sissi's body fire their lasers at us, causing us to stop. I start charging my powers, and Aelita holds her hand out. She summons her energy field and launches it at the Manta on the left side of Sissi's shoulder. The energy field flies at the Manta and hits the Manta, shocking it, and sending it flying.
I grab my bow and an arrow from my quiver. With Yumi and Mia fighting in the background, Odd takes the advantage to fire off several more Laser Arrows at Sissi. She twirls her baton, wind reflecting the the arrows away. Putting my arrow on the bow. I charge the arrow letting the electricity flow through me. My lightning bolt amulet glows, and my arrow is engulfed with yellow electricity. The Manta starts flying over to us. It's about to fire off a laser at one of us but I take my chance. As the Manta moves down, I pull the drawstring back and let my electrified arrow go and it flies fast at the Manta and reaches the target eye. It shocks the Manta and light shines from within the Manta, it explodes inside the electricity and then that disperses.
Odd uses this opportunity to run on both of his paws and feet, to get a closer angle on Sissi. A laser comes from behind us, hitting Aelita first, causing Aelita to lose balance. It then hits me in the back, and I lose my bow in the process.
Sissi resumes using her baton to attack the Sphere.
"Go!" I exclaim at him. He nods and, turning around, Aelita and I see that the monster that fired at us was another Manta. I start charging my electricity, gathering my powers so that they flow to one of my hands. We hear something explode behind us.
Please, I hope you're on your way, Sissi! The core can't take much more! I think.
While maintaining my powers, Aelita and I dodge an incoming laser the Manta fired at us. Aelita summons her energy field in the palm of her hand. My lightning bolt amulet glows, letting me know I'm good.
"Energy field!" Aelita exclaims, launching the energy field at the Manta.
"Electric blast!" I shout and launch an electric blast out of my hand. Our attacks both miss the Manta as it flies upward.
"Laser Arrows!" Odd exclaims, firing Laser Arrows at Sissi who is forced to stop sending her energy attack at the Sphere. The flying Manta turns downward and flies closer to Aelita and I. It fires at us, causing us to jump out of the way. It fires again, and Aelita is hit and then devirtualized. Angry, I'm about to grab my hunter's knife out of its sleeve but then I'm hit by another laser. I fly off my feet and devirtualize in a cloud of pixels.
Back inside the scanner room
Inside the scanner
The scanners' doors open and we see an unconscious Mr. Delmas in the scanner room. We step out and go to each other. A few seconds later two of the other scanners open, revealing Yumi and Mia.
"Why is our principal on the floor?" Mia asks.
"Did Sissi have something to do with this?" Yumi asks.
"Yeah, I think she did," I reply. They step out of the scanner.
"Sissi, now is the time. I'm starting up your fusion," Jeremy informs.
Nice going Kayori, Odd, and Ulrich. It'll be nice to have Sissi back, I think. The scanner that was left open closes. It reopens and we gasp.
Sissi is on the floor of the scanner. She looks up then smiles at us.
"You have no idea how good it feels to be back in your own body," she says.
"No we can't," Mia agrees.
The Next Day
By the vending machines area
We're all hanging by the vending machines area, Odd has been pretty happy with Sissi being back.
"Thanks again Sissi, I'm glad you were able to defend me," Ulrich says.
"It's the least I can do, Ulrich. And besides, my father doesn't really remember anything from yesterday. No harm in it really, if everyone tells him he defended you. Mrs. Hertz was the only one who insisted on putting you into ninth grade remedial in the end. She was out voted, so she had no choice but to agree," Sissi explains.
"Well that's good," Yumi says.
"Yeah. That was still pretty clever, Sissi," Aelita compliments.
"For sure. It's a good thing you and Odd are improving your grades. I'm not sure that we could have convinced the teachers to give all of you a second chance if you weren't," Kayori says.
"At any rate, I'm going to try and improve the sector five virtualization program. It's obviously not ready yet," Jeremy says.
"Obviously," Odd and Sissi say in unison.
"Hey, you never know, one day it might be," Mia says.
"Yeah, that's for sure," I nod.
Later at night
After a long day of classes, Aelita and I are heading back to our room. Mia had gone ahead and now I know why since she's waiting for us at the front of our room.
"Hey Mia, what's up?" I ask.
"I was hoping to ask you a question. Aelita, would you mind if I talked to Lila privately for a few minutes?" she asks.
"Of course not," Aelita replies. "Let me just grab a change of clothes and some things for my shower."
Mia nods and Aelita unlocks the door, she opens it and we go in. She goes over to our shared opened closet and grabs her pajamas, a towel, shampoo, and soap. She walks out of the room, closing the door behind us. Looking at Mia, I ask:
"So what did you want to talk about?"
"Well... I was wondering... do you have any advice on time travel changes?" she asks suddenly. I raise my eyebrow.
"I do have this one book that's pretty helpful, but it's more about theories. Different paradoxes. I mean, it is kind of a guide to being a time traveler. Why do you need it, out of curiosity?"
"Oh..." Mia trails off. "Honestly, I'm just curious is all," she replies, shifting her feet a little. I shrug my shoulders and go over to my desk by the wall, since Aelita's desk is at the window. I open the third drawer where I left my time travel book a while back. I haven't really read it in ages. Taking it out, I close the drawer. I walk over to Mia and I hand her the book. She takes it and looks it over.
"Hmm... written by James Carter. Huh. Interesting, Thanks Lila," she says.
"You're welcome," I smile, not thinking anything of it.
Don't forget to review!
Author's Note: The name James Carter is an easter egg to my original series. Not only that, but the time travel book had been named in the filler saga: The Adventures of Lila Belpois. If you haven't read it already, I highly recommend doing so. The filler saga is completely after all, so as far as that you could read through it all day if you wanted to.
Happy Holidays, I'll see you all in early January 2020!
