Three Is An Odd Number
AKA Triple Trouble
Lyoko's Mountain Sector
POV Lila's
All of us are in the mountain sector, trying to get Aelita to the activated tower. Sissi and Mia were caught off earlier by Bloks and were devirtualized.
Odd is firing off his Laser Arrows at three Bloks, he seems to be missing, however. The Bloks try firing at us as we run alongside Aelita. They're really poor shots. We hear the drone of the Scyphozoa, and see it approaching us.
"Watch out. If the Scyphozoa pulls Aelita into the way tower, it's all over. We can say goodbye to the mountain sector. And bye bye to Lyoko, too," Jeremy informs.
"I won't let that happen, Jeremy," I say, taking my hunter's knife out of its sleeve. The Scyphozoa starts moving closer to us, and I pull my knife back, about to throw the blade at the Scyphozoa. However, Ulrich's Overbike gets in between Aelita and me. I let my arm drop then grip my hunter's knife just in case. It passes us and he heads straight for the creature. Ulrich and Kayori are shielding us from the incoming lasers. Kayori using her shield, Ulrich using his katana blade. Ulrich winks at Aelita right before he activates his super sprint.
"Triplicate!" He shouts. He makes two clones of himself, and they run towards the Bloks. Two of the Bloks lasers hit two of Ulrich clones. They're taken out. Kayori opens her pouch and gets her throwing knife ready. Ulrich is able to super sprint his way to one of the Bloks and then jumps in the air with a kick. His katana blade ready, he plunges it towards the target eye of the middle Blok.
"Impact!" he exclaims, plunging it into the Blok. Ulrich jumps off the Blok. The Blok spins its head and explodes, Ulrich lands on the ground safely.
Kayori grips her throwing knife and pulls her hand back.
"Laser Arrow!" Odd exclaims. A laser arrow flies at the Blok Kayori is aiming at. It hits the blok but not its target eye. Odd doesn't seem too happy about it and passes over us. Kayori releases her throwing knife and it flies at one of the two remaining Bloks. The other Blok spins and shoots its ice laser which flies at the throwing knife and freezes it, causing it to drop to the ground.
Yumi comes in with her Overwing and flies over to us. She jumps off and takes out her Tessen Fans. I put my hunter's knife back in its sleeve. I take my bow off its hook and then take two arrows from my quiver. Putting them on my bow, I try to get a good aim on both Bloks. However, between Yumi, Kayori, and Ulrich are using their own weapons to shield Aelita and I, I can't target them properly.
Yumi throws one of her Tessen Fans in an uppercut motion. It slices through the targeted Blok. It explodes. Getting a lock on the last Blok, I draw my bow back and I'm about to let my arrows fly when I hear Aelita singing. She sends a small boulder flying at the Blok with the help of Yumi's telekinesis. The small boulder knocks the Blok off the mountainous path into the Digital Sea. The Scyphozoa tries to attack Aelita, but she jumps out of the way of its tentacles.
I fire off two arrows at the Scyphozoa's head. They hit, causing the stupid jellyfish to screech in pain, but it doesn't retreat.
"Super sprint!" Ulrich exclaims, activating his ability. He runs over to the Scyphozoa and expertly slices through its tentacles. That makes the Scyphozoa retreat.
"There you go, Princess," Ulrich says. Odd flies down with his Overboard and I put my bow back on its hook.
"What am I here?" Odd asks. "A groupie?"

Inside the scanner room
We're waiting for the freight elevator to come down. Odd punches in the code on the keypad. We only ever use it when we actually need to, which isn't very often.
"That makes twelve for me, anyone top that?" Ulrich asks.
"I got ten. Yumi, Lila?" Aelita asks. Mia and Sissi are in the lab since they were devirtualized earlier on.
"Oh not many, only fifteen," Yumi replies.
"That's good. I got nine," I say.
"Sissi, Kayori, how many did you get this week?" I ask them.
"I think about six," Sissi replies.
"Seven for me," Kayori answers.
"Odd, how many of Xana's monsters did you wipe out this week?" Yumi asks.
"Two," Odd replies in a low tone, his hands in his pockets.
"That's all? Really?" Kayori asks.
"Yeah, what's going on? What's your problem?" Yumi asks.
"You know darn well. You all got super powers. Telekinesis. Super Sprint. Triplicate. Electricity. Sissi with her Lady Luck ability. All of you can make stuff appear. Me? I got zilch," he explains. "The only power I've ever had was Future Flash and it got wiped out when Jeremy was updating the supercomputer. And he never reprogrammed it because it was, I quote, 'useless.'"
The freight elevator's doors open and we walk inside. I press the red button to go up, the freight elevator's doors close. And we go up. All of us take different spots in the freight elevator, Odd has his back against the wall of the elevator.
"So just knock it off with your high scores and low scores, okay?" he asks.
The Next Day
By the vending machines
All of us are at the vending machines area. Everyone's being pretty quiet, probably because nobody wants to say something to set Odd off. He passes by without really looking at us and goes to one of the vending machines. Finally, Yumi speaks.
"Still sulking I guess," Yumi comments. Odd takes a coin out of his pocket, then inserts it into the machine. Instead of the cup dropping with the drink, the coffee spills all over. Odd closes his eyes and bangs the machine lightly.
"Oh, I don't believe it, is the whole world trying to bring me down or what?" Odd asks.
It certainly hasn't been your week, Odd, I think. He puts his head in his arm, continuing to sulk.
Jeremy puts his hand on Odd's shoulder. "Hey, look, I'm on your side. I put a little something together that's bound to cheer you up, Odd."
"I hope it's nothing to eat because you're an awful cook," Odd comments.
He has a point there. I remember a few meals my father made for me back in my future world. He certainly tried his best raising me, I know that much, I think.
"No. It's a special power just for you and nobody else. Teleportation."
Odd holds his hands out. "You're the best Einstein. If I were a girl, I'd proposed to you immediately." He looks at Sissi.
"That is - you know what I mean right, Sissi?"
"I know Odd, no worries," Sissi says.
Afterwards
Lyoko's Mountain Sector
POV Lila's
Aelita and I are in the mountain sector. We're waiting for Odd, and he soon virtualizes. He lands on the ground safely. The others are back in the lab.
"I'm standing by, Jeremy," Odd informs.
"This new power will allow you to travel instantly over short distances," Jeremy explains.
"Cool, how does it work?" Odd asks.
"First, you want to visualize the place you want to go to. Okay?"
We see Odd look around and he points to a big nearby mountain.
"Like that big mountain, for instance?" he asks.
"Sure, why not. Next, you activate the program by saying 'Teleportation.'"
"Okay," Odd says. Looking at the big mountain, Odd says:
"Teleportation."
Odd disappears with a green energy surrounding him and reappears on the big mountain with that same green energy. It then dies down.
"Wow! Fantastic!" Odd exclaims.
My eyes widen as I look between the spot Odd teleported from and teleported to.
This is not good, I think.
"No, not fantastic at all," Aelita says.
"Uh oh, looks like something's bugged up."
"Okay, I'll try again," Odd says.
"No, don't!" Aelita and I exclaim at him, waving our hands in the air to get his attention.
"Teleportation," Odd says and disappears again. He reappears next to us and the green energy disperses. We look at the original Odd.
"Yoo hoo. Aren't you happy to see me?" the original Odd asks.
"Yeah, but honestly one of you would have been enough," Aelita replies.
"Look up there," she points back to big mountain Odd teleported to. There's another Odd there.
"Huh? What?" the original Odd and clone Odd asks.
"And there," I point to the other spot Odd teleported. There's an Odd there too. "Huh? What?" all three Odd's ask.
"Jeremy, I take back my marriage proposal!" the original Odd exclaims.
"Nobody panic. It's only a minor bug. I'll rematerialize you."
Afterwards
Inside the lab
Aelita and I were surprised to find three Odds materialized instead of just one. We've regrouped in the lab to assess the situation.
"Look on the bright side," the original Odd says, standing away from his clone counterparts. "Now you've got two more great buddies."
"That's right," the Odd clones say.
"Get real," Ulrich says. "That's three times as many bad jokes," he comments.
"And two too many Odd Della Robbia's at school," Yumi says.
"And wayyyy too many boyfriends," Sissi adds. "The original Odd has seniority over you two clones." The original Odd smiles at that ,while the clone Odds pout.
"Why don't these two Odds lay low here to stop anyone from getting suspicious, and the other Odd can go to school as usual, then everything will be cool," Aelita suggests.
"That sounds like it could work," Kayori says.
"Yeah, it's a good idea," Jeremy agrees. "I'll stay here, and try to find out what went wrong. Okay?"
"No way jose; it's lunch time and we're starved," the original Odd says, his hands on his hips. "It's meatballs and gravy time."
"Well if that's the case, how about this?" Mia asks, we look at her. "One of the Odd clones can take my portion for lunch. That way if you end up eating too much, Odd, there's enough for the others."
"That's a good idea. I'm not really big on meatballs and gravy myself, so the one of Odd clones can take my portion, too," Kayori says.
"And I don't really like gravy. I'll have meatballs every now and then but if one of the three of you wants to take my portion, for an extra helping, you're more than welcome to," I offer.
"Sweet!" the clone Odds exclaim, high fiving each other.
"That should hopefully settle any hunger problems," Sissi says.
"It should. And while we're at it, why don't we hide in my room and go to the lunchroom, one at a time?" the original Odd asks.
"Great idea. Nice one, Odd," the clones say in unison.
"Thanks a lot guys, and since I'm the one who thought of it, I should go first. Okay?" Odd asks.
"No me. I'm too hungry to wait," clone Odd says.
"Forget it. Me first. I'm starved," the other clone says.
"Stop," Ulrich says, holding his hand up. Leave this to me okay?" he asks. Ulrich starts pointing.
"Eenie meenie minie moe, catch a Della Robbia by the toe," he then points to the original Odd. "You go."
The original Odd holds his hands up and exclaims: "Cool!"

Inside Mary's study
POV Mary's
I'm reading a book. I was happy to help take Sissi's form last week.
We had another change in this timeline recently. You understand that, right? Future Xana asks.
Yes, I'm aware. Ulrich was originally supposed to have been the one who made the first virtualization to Sector Five, I reply back.
Although Sissi was switched with Ulrich in this timeline, I can't help but be concerned. What other changes are we expecting to occur in this timeline? he asks.
I'm not sure… Lila's death still troubles me. I'm so ashamed of myself. I believed putting that link on me, Lila, and this current timeline's version of you, would protect Lila. I simply cannot believe she's dead, I tell him.
She isn't, in a sense. Her death was prevented in this timeline. I know that does not provide you with solace. I apologize for not telling you sooner…. I wanted Lila or one of the others to say something sooner.
I understand, and no it does not provide me solace. She was my responsibility, I say.
Our responsibility Mary. Ours. We made a promise to Jeremy's memory that we would keep his child safe and away from my evil half. We both failed. I'm not sure what happened to my other benevolent half in the dark timeline Future Aelita came from, but I am positive he did what he could to prevent Lila's death. In fact I am sure of it. From what I heard, it took Cameron two tries to kill her. The other me must have tried his best to keep Lila alive after the first attempt. There's no telling what happened to him after Lila's death.
You may be right. We may never find out what happened to the other benevolent version of you. I suppose he tried his best given the circumstances he had… I trail off, saddened.

On the track field

POV Lila's
Ever since the benevolent half of Future Xana left me, I've felt better, more sure of myself that I could do normal things like attend gym class more frequently. It never really occurred to me until recently. On some nights I'm even keeping up with my own exercise. It's rather nice. Knowing the truth about myself has been better in the long run. We're all outside now on the track field, Jim giving one of his usual speeches about how to shot put. One of the Odds is with us, as planned.
"So you bend your knees like this," he demonstrates. We start to notice a weird smoke is forming behind him. "Into position which keeps your weight balanced," he explains. "Your arm holding the disc out stretched like this," Jim says, his arm stretched out.
"Behind you Jim, there's something weird behind you! Look!" Herb points.
"Listen up Herb, I was not born yesterday. What are you trying to pull?" Jim asks. The smoke starts to envelop Jim's body, turning it to stone. My eyes widen.
Not good! I think. Herb is laughing and so are a few of the other students, which is really disgraceful if you ask me, but it might be nervous laughter. Still.
"Now that's what I call having a hard day," Herb jokes. Herb is then turned to stone, causing a lot of the students to scream in fear. We group up.
"This is Xana's doing. Let's get to the factory," Ulrich says.
"Right," Mia nods. We start running onto the field to get to the park but the smoke catches up with us. The Odd clone is puzzled by its speed and we turn in another direction that will lead us to the park, hearing the screams of our classmates who are more than likely turning into stone. As we're running, we make our way to the science building, Ulrich holding the door open, most of us are able then able to get inside. Ulrich closes the door quickly, making a quick decision, we then watch from the windows as the Odd clone is petrified by the smoke.
"Odd!" Ulrich exclaims.
"We have to get him out of here," Aelita says.
"You wouldn't happen to have a pair of wings on you?" Ulrich jokes.
Yumi meets up with us, "What we got to do is deactivate the tower. If we stay here, we'll all end up as statues. The north entrance is still a no smoke zone," she informs.
"Okay, if you're sure," Kayori says. We're about to take off but Sissi looks at the Odd clone, concerned.
"We'll save all of them, Sissi. Just like we usually do," I say, putting my hand on her shoulder. She smiles slightly and nods.
"Okay," she says. Letting go of my hand, we start running to the north entrance.
As we're running, Ulrich takes out his cell phone. "I'll tell Jeremy about Odd." He dials a number of speed dial and then puts his phone to his ear. There's a short pause while we run.
"Right, we'll be there," Ulrich says and then hangs up.

Inside the freight elevator
"Jeremy, we're here," Yumi informs.
The freight elevator brings us all the way to the scanner room.
"Okay, I'll start the virtualization," he says.

Lyoko's Mountain Sector
Kayori is the last one to be virtualized. She lands in a crouch position and gets up.
"I see it, the activated tower is over there," Aelita says, pointing to the activated tower. It's just a straight path, but a long one. We start running along the path. Yumi and Mia are ahead of us, so they get further but they're taken out by a laser wave that came out of nowhere from a Megatank. They scream as they're hit and devirtualize in a cloud of pixels.
Ulrich, Sissi, and Kayori hide behind one boulder while Aelita and I hide behind another across from them.
"If only I had the chance to activate my Lady Luck ability," Sissi sighs. "Talk about being between a rock and a hard place. We're completely stuck."
The Megatank continues to fire it's laser wave at us in three different directions.
"Hang on, I have an idea," Kayori says.
Taking out her shield, Kayori puts it on and goes to the middle area. A laser wave is shot at her and she uses her shield to block the laser wave. However it's much bigger and it causes her feet to drag back a little.
"Ulrich, now," Kayori says. Ulrich nods and exclaims:
"Super sprint!" he uses his super sprint, leaving a yellow trail behind and rushes down the mountainous path, while Kayori is being pushed back by the laser wave. Aelita, Sissi, and I can't help but look at her with concern. Ulrich stops using his super sprint, hiding behind a boulder and notices something.
"Kayori! Watch out behind you!" he exclaims. Kayori looks behind her and we do too, seeing another Megatank unleashing its laser wave. Kayori leans sideways and so do the rest of us. The laser waves hit a boulder and now each Megatank fires their laser waves at one another. Thankfully enough, the one originally attacking us has its laser wave hit the new Megatank. It explodes and Kayori covers her face with her arms.
Ulrich starts super sprinting his way to the Megatank again which is now firing at him. He hides behind yet another boulder. The Megatank stops firing its laser wave and Kayori returns to us, hiding behind the boulder with Aelita, Sissi, and me.
You can do it, Ulrich, I think.
Ulrich runs to another boulder as the Megatank fires. The boulder is hit by the Megatank's laser wave and Ulrich exclaims:
"Super sprint!" he begins super sprinting his way yet again towards the Megatank, leaving a yellow trail behind. All of us watch him as he jumps down the side of the path, running on it. This confuses the Megatank as it loses sight of Ulrich. For a second we do too but then he comes back up and continues to super sprint his way to the Megatank. The Megatank fires its laser wave but misses Ulrich, Ulrich is finally able to get to it and he jumps into the air. He takes his katana blade out and plunges it into the target eye.
The Megatank explodes causing Ulrich to fly backwards, and he screams as he's in mid air. He lands on the ground, his katana blade sliding towards him.
"Go ahead, the coast is clear," Ulrich informs. All of us start running with Aelita, Kayori putting her shield back on her hook.
"Ulrich, watch out!" Aelita exclaims, pointing to a Megatank that rolls out from a nearby boulder. It opens and charges its laser, then unleashes it and hits Ulrich's katana blade, dematerializing it. Thankfully he manages to get away, but he's annoyed he lost his weapon. The Megatank closes and starts rolling its way towards Ulrich. Ulrich runs but the Megatank chases after him. Aelita holds her hand up.
"Energy field!" Aelita exclaims, summoning her energy field. She fires it at the Megatank but it doesn't cause any damage and falls right under it.
"No good. Without a clear opening, we can't do a thing," Sissi sighs.
"I know," I sigh too. The Megatank keeps rolling its way toward Ulrich.
"Super spri-" Ulrich is about to say but is interrupted when the Megatank rolls on him. He screams and is devirtualized.
"It's between the four of you now. You have got to defeat that Megatank," Jeremy says.
"We know, but he seems pretty tough," Aelita comments. She and Sissi run away from their hiding spot, while Kayori and I do the same. The Megatank
now gets in between the space that separated the boulders from where we were hiding. We start running close by where there's an empty chasm of sorts. We regroup and run down the path, the Megatank can't open fully here. Aelita summons another energy field and fires, but it's still no good.
The Megatank manages to get free and unleashes a long laser wave. Kayori opens her pouch and takes a throwing knife out. I take my arrow and my bow. Sissi seems a bit upset since she hasn't had the opportunity to attack. Putting my arrow on my bow, I pull the drawstring back and let the arrow fly. The arrow flies at the Megatank which closes again, the arrow bounces off its shell. Kayori is the next one to pull her throwing knife back, the Megatank opens and fires another laser wave, missing us again, and Kayori lets her throwing knife fly. It flies at the Megatank but its closes once more, protecting itself from Kayori's weapon.
The Megatank opens up, charging and launching another laser wave. It almost gets us, but we're able to leap to the side in time. Aelita holds her hand out and summons her energy field.
"Energy field!" Aelita exclaims, firing the energy weapon at the Megatank who once again closes its shells.
"Step aside, ladies!" Odd exclaims, flying over us with his Overboard.
"Let an expert do the job!" He makes a u turn back on his Overboard, heading towards us and the Megatank. Cocking his paw and holding it steady, he fires off a laser arrow. The laser arrow flies at the Megatank and actually hits the target eye, causing the Megatank to explode.
"Yeah!" Odd exclaims. "Get ready, Aelita!" he exclaims, making yet another turn and towards the activated tower. We look to each other and smile. Kayori closes her pouch, I put my bow back on its hook. We start running up the path.
Two Bloks come from behind the tower. They fire their lasers at Odd and we watch him fire several laser arrows at the Bloks. His Overboard is hit and he jumps off. One of his laser arrows hits the Blok's target eye at the same time.
"Woah!" he exclaims, the Blok spins its head and then explodes. He lands on the other Blok's head, which causes it to look for Odd.
Whatever flunk he was having, it seems he's over it now! Still, if there's one thing he needs, it's a good defensive weapon. Something like Kayori's, I think.
Odd looks down and waves at the Blok.
"Yoo-hoo!" he exclaims. He fires his laser arrow point blank at the Blok's target eye. He jumps off and lands on his paws; the Blok exploding. We run to him.
"My lady's tower is straight ahead," He gestures to Aelita to go to the tower. We stop running and watch Aelita run to the tower. She phases into the tower's "doorway."
"I take it you're all better, then?" Sissi asks.
"I am," Odd replies. Sissi smiles at Odd and goes over to him. She then slaps him on the head lightly. He rubs it.
"Ow! What was that for?" he asks.
"That was for referring yourself as the expert. We were stuck," Sissi replies.
"Okay, okay," he says. Kayori and I can't help but laugh lightly at that. We watch the tower's aura change from red to blue.
"Everything okay, Jeremy?" Odd asks him, looking up.
"No sweat. Just have to launch the return to the past," Jeremy answers.
A big white bubble engulfs all of us sending us back in time.
Earlier the same day
Inside the cafeteria
Odd is using his fork to finish up the meatballs he was eating. This time around I decided to go for the meatballs but I asked Rosa to hold the gravy. I have my cup of tea as usual too. Jeremy is sitting next to Odd.
"This time I finally understood what went wrong with the teleportation program. If you want, I can reboot the program with no bugs this time," Jeremy offers. I'm sitting next to Aelita on her right side. Ulrich and Yumi are sitting next to her on the other side. Mia and Kayori are sitting together. Sissi is on the other side of Odd.
"No thanks," Odd says.
"You sure?" Jeremy asks.
Odd puts his fork down. "Yup, I sure am. You saw that last battle. I am a top gun. A real fighting machine. I mean a guy like me doesn't need special powers."
"Yeah, you're very strong and handsome but most of all your modest," Yumi jokes.
"Right, you hit the nail on the head. In fact, you might say I'm one of a kind," Odd says.
"Well, one of a kind," Mia jokes.
"Would you consider getting a defensive ability for yourself?"
"That could help," Kayori comments.
I raise my eyebrow.
Seems she and I had the same idea, I think.
"How do you mean?" Odd asks.
"Something like Kayori's shield or Sissi's baton but portable. Something you can easily access at will," Mia explains. Odd looks at Jeremy.
"Is that possible?" he asks.
"Sure. Depending on what you wanted," Jeremy replies, fixing his glasses to the bridge of his nose.
"Easily."
"Well, as funny as it would be to see you with a baton, Odd, I think you should go for the shield," Sissi says.
"Me too," I nod.
"Can it be purple? It is my favorite color, after all," Odd mentions.
"Yeah. I can do that. I'll create the program tonight and then implement it," Jeremy says.
"Great. You're the best Einstein," Odd smiles. We all smile at that.
Author's Note: Odd's shield ability finally arrives in Changing Destiny: Lila's Journey! However it won't debut until season 4. It originally was supposed to air in Season 2, with the chapter: Temptation. Unfortunately I forgot about it, and was reminded too late. Jeremy originally gave Odd his shield ability because he removed Odd's Future Flash ability. While it was "useless" in season 1, it certainly could have proven useful in season 2 and 3. Never understood why it was taken out to be honest. There are now: TWO chapters left until we're finished with season 3. Can't believe how far we've come.
