Late at night
Inside Lila and Aelita's room
POV Lila's
I start writing in my diary.
Dear Diary,
It's been a week since we've lost Mia. My friends have accepted everything that I've told them. I am happy about that. Their acceptance… it's important to me, you know? I've lied for so long… and they deserve a friend who can tell them the truth. On another note, Mary has gotten used to posing as Mia. No one is suspicious because no one really knew Mia that well. It works out in our favor, sadly. William is determined to save his daughter though. I'm about to head to the lab to meet with Mary, Aelita, and Jeremy. Mary told me that she doesn't mind posing as Mia for the day… but she would feel better if she could live in her own home. This way, she can simply become a day student like Yumi, and like Kayori used to be. I'm glad she's home safe. I can't wait to get a letter from her and hear from her again. Though I still can't help but wonder why she mentioned that she was calling from her mom's phone.
All of this kind of makes me wish I asked Emily how Cameron was doing when I told her Kayori didn't have time to say goodbye to her. Maybe I should contact him again someday? Anyways, going to get going to the lab.

Aelita smiles at me as I walk over to her, Jeremy, and Mary, who looks like herself, since she's with us.
"We were just about to call Delmas," Jeremy informs.
"Cool. Are you going to use the synthesizer program to make your voice sound like Mia's?" I ask, reaching them.
"I am," Jeremy replies. He puts his headset earpiece into his ear. He adjusts the mic part. Using the keyboard, he then calls Delmas. There's a short pause before we hear Mr. Delmas clearing his throat.
"Yes hello?" Mr. Delmas asks.
"Hi Mr. Delmas, this is Mia Bedard. I was hoping to talk to you about something. I have my mother Mary with me," Jeremy says. His program really makes it sound like Mia is here. While this is a downgrade from the one I used to have on the copy of Jeremy's laptop… it's still pretty impressive.
"Is everything okay, Miss Bedard?"
"Not quite," Jeremy answers. "My mother and I were hoping that it would be okay if I could become a day student."
"I can't hear you very clearly, Miss Bedard. Are you requesting that you'd like to become a day student?"
"Yes sir, that is correct," Jeremy answers.
"If you don't mind me asking, what would be the cause of this sudden change?"
"The cause, sir…" Jeremy trails off, looking at Mary. She nods.
"My mother can explain that to you now," he finishes.
"Very well. Please put her on."
Jeremy gets up from the chair and gestures Mary to sit in it. She does so and Jeremy gives the headset earpiece to Mary. She puts it in her ear even though she could just use the speakers.
"Hello Mr. Delmas, I hope you're well," Mary says.
"I am, Mrs. Smith, thank you. Might I ask why Mia wishes to become a day student?"
"Yes, you see, sir, she's concerned about expenses lately. She feels that as a single parent, it might be easier for me to have her go to school for the day and then come back home when classes have ended," Mary explains.
That sounds reasonable, I think.
"And your daughter Mia is okay with this?"
"She is," Mary replies.
"Very well, Mrs. Smith. First thing tomorrow I will have your daughter removed from housing. Jim will stop by to bring her some boxes."
"Thank you, Mr. Delmas, for your understanding," Mary says.
"You're welcome. Goodnight Mrs. Smith."
"Goodnight Mr. Delmas," Mary says and Mr. Delmas hangs up. His picture disappears and Mary stops the synthesizer program.
"Phew, great teamwork, Mary. I guess I make a good Mia," Jeremy says. Mary gets off the chair and takes the headset earpiece off. She hands it back to Jeremy, who cleans it. Mary and Jeremy exchange places, Jeremy sits back on his chair and puts the headset earpiece down.
"Yes, now all we have to do is find Mia," Aelita says.
"You're right, we better get back to work," Jeremy says and starts typing on the keyboard. Hopefully we'll have some good news for the others tomorrow.
The Next Day
By the benches
Jeremy has his hands stretched out on the bench. I'm sitting on Jeremy's right side. Aelita is sitting on the top of the bench on Jeremy's left side. Odd and Sissi are standing next to each other. Ulrich is sitting with Yumi on the other bench. William and Mary are standing.
"Piece of cake," Jeremy says proudly, Having taken his glasses off earlier.
Yumi puts her hands up. "Okay, so it worked with the principal. What happens when the real Mia comes back and wants to room with Sissi again?" she asks.
"I'm sure we can work things out with Delmas," Mary replies.
"Even so, one of these days Delmas might request to see you and Mia in his office at the same time. I'm not so sure that voice synthesizer of yours is going to do the trick, Jeremy," Ulrich says.
"Who knows, maybe by then we'll have localized Mia," Jeremy surmises.
"How are you going to do that?" Odd asks.
"Thanks to the data we got from my father before he disappeared into the network, Jeremy and I have just about recreated Lyoko," Aelita explains.
"You're recreating Lyoko?" Sissi asks.
"We may even be ready by tonight," Aelita tells us.
"That would be great," William says.
"For sure," I nod.
"In fact, Aelita and I have worked on it every night for the last week," Jeremy explains.
Odd points Jeremy. "Ah, so that's why you look like a couple of zombies, huh?" he asks. Jeremy and Aelita look at Odd. Jeremy puts his glasses back on, fixing them to the bridge of his nose.
"And I thought you were looking like rags because you were partying all night. I was getting jealous," Odd jokes.
Afterwards
Inside the cafeteria
Milly and Tamiya are sitting, eating at our usual table. Carrying our trays, we walk over to them.
"Hi Milly. Hi Tamiya," Yumi greets.
"Do you mind if we sit here with you?" Sissi asks.
Milly looks at Jeremy as we're starting to get to our seats.
"Humph," Milly says, getting up with her tray.
"Humph," Tamiya says. They walk away in a huff, leaving us confused.
"Are they still sulking?" Ulrich asks.
"You'd figure they'd be over it by now," William comments.
"Guess not," Jeremy says.
"Well, you did sneak out the bathroom in the middle of an interview," Odd reminds him, and sits down next to Sissi. Odd picks up his fork and knife.
"And for ace reporters like them, that's pretty insulting," Odd adds. Jeremy pulls his soda cap open.
"Being mad at me isn't as bad as being mad at each other," he mentions and drinks his soda.
"But why are they mad at each other?" I ask.
"Did something happen between the two of them?" Mary asks.
"They had a massive argument over the newspaper, I think," Jeremy replies.
"You mean the Kadic news is folded for good? That's the best news I've heard-" Yumi says.
"No, it's not. Milly and Tamiya were supposed to interview me and Sissi after our first kiss made the front page. How are readers supposed to know what's going on with us now?" Odd asks.
"Well, Odd dear, I guess you just have to console yourself by watching Jim dance to disco music," Sissi says.
"Yeah, he's really good, isn't he?" Odd asks.
"Disco music? Jim?" I ask.
"Yeah," Sissi and Odd reply in unison.
"Odd, Sissi, please tell me you two aren't watching Paco the King of Disco again," Ulrich says.
"We can't help ourselves," Sissi mentions.
"Yeah, whenever we're in a bad mood we put the film on and watch it together. I don't know why he's so ashamed that he used to be an actor," Odd says.
Ulrich drinks some water and then says: "It's probably because the film was a flop."
I can't help but shrug… Jim, a disco dancer? Not something I want to see. I start eating my mashed potatoes. Mary pushes her tray of food over to Odd, who happily accepts the extra portion. Although it seems William may have wanted it.
Later that night
Inside the lab
We're all sitting on the holosphere display case except Mary and Aelita. Jeremy is sitting on his chair.
At least we were able to get all of Mia's stuff to Mary's house way she doesn't have to wear herself out 24/7 posing as Mia, I think. Though she probably could pose as Mia 24/7 if she really needed to.
"I'm all set," Jeremy announces, pressing the enter button. A window pops up, and there's some beeping, but not much else.
"I don't want to be a party pooper, but nothing seems to be happening," Odd comments.
"Yeah, he's right," William agrees.
"The data my father transmitted wasn't enough," Aelita says sadly.
Jeremy takes off his glasses and puts his hand on his head. "I guess we must have been really crazy to think we could recreate Lyoko."
The beeping stops. Yumi points to the window on the computer. "Hey wait, look at that!" she exclaims. A small sphere appears on screen and a sector is recreated. All of us get up from the display case and walk over to Jeremy, Aelita, and Mary.
"That's incredible, it worked," Ulrich smiles.
"Aelita, Jeremy, you guys are gods," Odd compliments.
"That's for sure!" Sissi agrees.
"Yeah, Mary and I knew you could do it," I smile. Mary smiles too. Jeremy puts his glasses back on, fixing them to the bridge of his nose. He then holds his finger up.
"Well, almost, but not quite," Jeremy says, and presses the enter key on the keyboard. The holosphere shows what looks like a yellow sphere. Jeremy turns his chair to face us.
"For the time being all we've been able to do is recreate Sector Five of Lyoko. We've still got work to do to recreate the other sectors," Jeremy explains. He turns his chair back to the computer. Jeremy adjusts his glasses. "But we should be able to do that soon."
Yumi pulls his chair to face us. "Okay, but it can wait for a night or two. You guys deserve a good night's sleep."
"Yeah, you've been working so hard for all of us," Sissi says.
"Yes, Yumi and Sissi are right, Jeremy. We're going to need all of our strength to look for Mia. We'll get started tomorrow," Aelita tells him.
"Uh…" Jeremy is about to object but then says, "Yeah… well, all right."
On the bridge
"Hey, do you guys want to watch Paco the King of Disco with me and Sissi? It'll take your mind off things," Odd tells us.
"How did you two ever discover that in the first place Odd?" I ask, curiously.
"Oh, you see, Sissi and I were trying to find a way to convince Delmas to give us the same schedule. We thought we might ask Jim to help us… and we just happened to have found the disc. I suggested we use it as leverage-" he starts to explain, but Sissi interrupts him.
"Blackmail dear, not leverage," she says.
"Blackmail him… but Sissi convinced me to not do that," he explains.
"Well, that's good," I say.
"I should get going, it's already really late," Yumi says.
"Me too. I'm off. I'll see you tomorrow," Mary says and changes into her white spectre smoke form. She vanishes into the night sky and the others can't help but be in awe of her.
"So cool," William comments.
The Next Day
Outside in the courtyard
Odd tosses the Kadic newspaper onto the bench between Milly and Tamiya. Emily is sitting by a tree.
"Do you know what Jim is going to do to me and Sissi for this?" Odd asks them.
Emily is flipping through a magazine. "No, but I can't wait to find out," she replies.
We walk over to them. Well, Mary texted me saying she would be late, but the rest of us walk over.
"And I'm sure my readers are dying to know, too," she adds.
"Emily, since when have you been involved in the Kadic news, huh?" Jeremy asks. Emily gets up and walks over to us. She snaps her finger in front of Jeremy.
"Ever since I made myself editor and chief," Emily explains. "Oh, and since you're all together as usual, I'd like to ask Sissi a few questions for the next issue, about her and Odd."
"Come on, you two, what are you waiting for? We're rolling," Emily tells Milly and Tamiya. Milly gets her microphone out and Tamiya takes out her portable camera. She turns it on and focuses it on Sissi.
"Well, as a matter of fact Emily, Odd and I are doing just great," Sissi replies.
"If that's the case then please tell our readers how you two came to be," Emily says. Odd rubs his hand on his head nervously since he was a pity date in the beginning.
"Well, I'm not sure how it's any of your readers business," Sissi says.
"Okay how about this question, why did Mia Bedard suddenly decide to become a day student?" Emily asks.
"How did you find that out?" I ask.
"I have my sources," Emily replies.
"Mia became a day student because-" I'm about to explain but then a familiar voice speaks up.
"Are you guys talking about me?" Mia asks. We look at her, surprised, our eyes widen. The camera focuses on her.
Is that Mary… or is it really you... Mia? I think.
Afterwards
Under the arches
Mia has her back against one of the arches, explaining what happened.
"Come on, you guys, did you really think I would let Xana take me without having a backup plan?" she asks.
"What was the backup plan?" William asks.
"Well, after I was virtualized onto Sector Five and then taken by the Scyphozoa, I remember that I was transferred to the limbo sector that I made for emergencies. That's what saved me. But after that… nothing really," she replies. She bumps her fist on her head and then says: "That is, until this morning when I woke up in the factory."
Jeremy is on his laptop trying to see if this is Xana's doing. There's no way of knowing for sure that it isn't. William pokes Mia's arm.
"What are you doing, William? You're hurting me," she tells him. William stops.
"From what the others have explained to me, there are these polymorphing spectres, like Mary, who can take on our form. I was just checking to see if it was really you… kiddo," he explains. Mia's eyes widen and she looks at me.
"You told him?"
I rub my head. "Yeah… sorry," I nervously chuckle.
"Eh it's okay. I was going to tell him too." She shrugs.
"And there's no danger of that, William," Jeremy adds, adjusting his glasses. "There aren't any activated towers on Lyoko. Mia couldn't have been sent by Xana."
Mia nudges William. "So you can stop checking me William."
The bells ring signaling it's time to go to our classes.
"Well, anyhow, you're just in time for a quiz in history," Sissi tells Mia.
"Great, talk about perfect timing. I haven't studied at all," she says.
"It's not like you studied before!" Sissi jokes.
Mia chuckles and Sissi rushes off to the classroom first. Mia chases after her and Sissi can't help but laugh, having her friend back. Yumi waves goodbye to us as she and William start making their way to their class.
Odd rubs his head.
"The next problem is giving a reason to Delmas for Mia to become a resident student again," Odd says.
"Yeah, that might be tricky," I say.
"What I don't get is why when Lyoko disappeared, Mia didn't fall immediately into the digital sea," Jeremy says and closes his laptop. He opens his messenger bag and puts the laptop away. "It's really weird she found her way to her limbo sector." He snaps the bag shut. "I'd love to know how she managed to escape," he says.
Later that night
Inside Lila and Aelita's room
Aelita and I have the light on in our room. Aelita is reading a book and I'm texting Mary. She's suspicious about Mia's return, but I told her everything is okay for now. There's a knock on the door.
"Who is it?" Aelita asks.
"Hi Aelita, Lila, I hope we're not disturbing you two," Emily says, and opens the door. I turn my chair towards Milly and Tamiya who have their notebook and camera out.
"We would really like to do a story on you and Lila for our next issue. It's true that we don't know a lot about you two. Are you two really adopted sisters? And, well, is it really all that cold in Canada? Why did you suddenly come here in the middle of the year? Our readers are interested," Emily says and Aelita puts her book down. I sigh. Milly and Tamiya laugh nervously.
"Emily, maybe you should-" I start to say but I'm interrupted.
"Don't you ever study in peace, huh?" Mia asks.
What's she doing here? I think.
"Alright, get going, all three of you," Mia tells them, gesturing them out the door. "You've annoyed them enough."
"Oh, Mia, you came back. I thought you were supposed to be a day student now," Emily says.
"Get going I said," Mia says, pointing them out the door. Emily, Milly, and Tamiya start walking.
"Okay, okay," Emily says. "We're out of here," she says and they walk out. Mia closes the door.
"Thanks Mia. Without you we'd have been Emily's next victim," Aelita says, picking up her book again.
"Yeah, I think that would have been worse than-" she starts to say but is interrupted by Mia.
"Than becoming a prisoner of Xana?" Mia asks, her voice changing, almost possessed like. "Is that what you were going to say?" Aelita and I look at her, shocked. She closes her eyes and then opens them. They pulse with Xana's symbol.
I get up from my chair and I immediately run at her.
"Lila, don't!" Aelita exclaims. I try to punch her, but Mia speeds her way by me and punches me in the gut. I cough and keel over. My cell phone drops out of my hand and I lose consciousness.
Sometime after
I feel someone shaking me awake. Opening my eyes, my vision slowly returns and I see Jeremy.
"... Are you okay, Lila?" he asks.
"No," I answer, annoyed. "Mia did this," I tell him. He offers me his hand and I take it.
"Thanks," I say. Jeremy turns the computer on. He brings up a program for locating Aelita's phone. I think there's a second signal for Mia's phone. I guess she still has it on her. A window pops up trying to locate them.
"No problem, now why would Mia attack you and take Aelita?" he asks.
"Not sure," I reply. Jeremy takes his cell phone out and dials a number. He pulls the chair out from the desk and sits on it. "Ulrich, there's something weird going on with Mia." There's a short pause.
"She attacked Lila and left for the factory with Aelita. I'm not sure how or why, but I'm pretty sure this is Xana's doing," Jeremy says.
"Yeah, I have to agree with you on that," I nod. Jeremy locks onto one of their phones, pinpointing their location. "It's strange that Mia somehow ended up in her limbo sector and not in the digital sea," he tells Ulrich. There's a short pause. "Meet you at the factory, okay?" he asks. There's another short pause.
"You mean he's not with you?" Jeremy asks. "Okay, we'll see you soon," he says and hang up. He looks at me.
"Let's go. We'll let the others know on the way."
"Right," I nod.
On the bridge
Ulrich, Jeremy, William, and I are running on the bridge. We all have our phones out, besides William.
"Impossible to reach Odd, I've already tried him three times," Ulrich says.
"Me too with Sissi, she's not answering," I say.
"They're probably on a date or something," William surmises.
"Yeah, well, hopefully their date is important," Jeremy says, clearly annoyed. "Just when you need them," he sighs.
Inside the lab
After getting to the lab, we notice no one is here.
Where did they go? I think.
"They're not here," Urich says. Jeremy goes to his computer, noticing a window is still open.
"I can see that. They're in Sector Five, and I don't like that at all," he says. "Hurry you three, head to the scanner room," Jeremy says and puts his headset earpiece on. He adjusts the mic part.
"We're on it," I say as we run to the freight elevator.
Afterwards
Inside the scanner room
William takes the middle scanner, Ulrich takes the left scanner, and I take the right scanner.
"We're ready, Jeremy," Ulrich informs.
Our scanner's doors start closing. "Okay, I'll launch the procedure."
The scanner's doors close fully. My scanner starts to hum. I close my eyes.
Sector Five
Arena Room
We land on the floor with ease. I notice the arena isn't spinning and the doorway is already opened. Then again Mia was with Aelita here earlier, so that's probably why.
"You three have got to go through the corridor in front of you."
"Is there a key we've got to trip?" Ulrich asks.
"No. When we recreated Sector Five, we got rid of that procedure."
"Okay, here we go," Ulrich says.
"The three of you better step on it while they're not too far away."
"We'll get to them," I say, determined.
"Yeah, let's go!" William exclaims. We start running. "Once you're in the core zone, I'll guide you."
POV Aelita's
I wake up and see that I'm floating… with dark clouds surrounding me. I look at the person in front of me and see that it's Mia. Her outfit is the same ninja suit except now it has become completely dark with red stripes and has a xana symbol on her chest.
"What's going on?" I ask. "Mia, where are you taking me?" She doesn't answer.
"Let me go," I plead.
I use creativity to force Mia to release her hold on me. I land on the floor, catching myself with one hand. I aim the free hand at Mia and shout:
"Energy field!" I launch my energy field at Mia. It shocks her and throws her across the floor. I start running up the stairs.
POV Lila's
"So kiddo, having fun without us?" William asks.
"You sure have changed, haven't you?" Ulrich asks. Using her black smoke ability, Mia summons two kunai. Ulrich unsheathes his blade, William grips his giant sword, and I take my hunter's knife out of its sleeve.
Mia chuckles evilly.
"Be careful, you three, Xana's sent in some Xana Bots just behind you," Jeremy warns.
"Super smoke!" Mia exclaims and disappears into her black smoke. With the three Xana Bots zooming in, she makes her escape. The Xana Bots start charging their lasers and fire at us.
Using our weapons, we reflect the lasers one by one.
"And I thought this was going to be easy," Ulrich says. A laser comes close to hitting Ulrich but William summons a fireball and shoots it at the Xana Bot that tried to sneak it's way in. The fireball flies at the Xana Bot and hits the target eye. The monster explodes within the flames. The remaining three Xana Bots resume firing their lasers. William grips his sword again to block the incoming lasers. I grip my hunter's knife and reflect the laser off it as Ulrich does the same with his Katana.
POV Sissi's
Odd and I make it out of the gymnasium panting in relief. A group of girls just saved us from Jim's… disco lessons. I look at Odd.
"Odd, so help me we will never speak of this to the others. Agreed?"
"Agreed. Let's go," Odd replies and as soon as we catch our breath, we start running again.
POV Lila's
We continue fighting the Xana Bots for a few minutes and dodging their lasers. Between the six of us we aren't making any progress.
"The three of you better make it snappy. Mia is taking Aelita straight to the dome area," Jeremy informs.
"We're doing the best we can Jeremy, but these Xana Bots really have us pinned," I say.
The three of us decide to break formation and run to the right to get a better angle at the Xana Bots whom start zooming around again. They reposition themselves and we grip our weapons.
"Obviously our best just isn't good enough," Ulrich says.
Suddenly Yumi's Tessen Fan comes flying out of nowhere. It slashes through one of the Xana Bot's target signs, and returns to Yumi who lands behind us. The Xana Bot explodes and Yumi catches her weapon. This causes another Xana Bot to zoom into the room.
"I guess you three could use some help," Yumi comments.
"That's for sure," William agrees.
"Let's go!" Ulrich exclaims.
The new Xana Bot that just entered fires its laser at Yumi. She cartwheels backwards while three Xana Bots fire at the three of us. We block their lasers again and the new Xana Bot breaks its formation and flies to where Yumi is.
"I've got it!" William exclaims. William puts his giant blade on his shoulder and with his free hand he aims at the Xana Bot.
"Fireball!" he shouts, and I hear the Xana Bot exploding.
"I got you Yumi," William says.
"Thanks," Yumi says.
"Lila, on my signal," Ulrich says.
"Right," I say. Ulrich starts backing up and I follow him. I start channeling my power to the soles of my feet, but the two Xana Bots fire at us, causing us to lose our blades, and causing me to interrupt my flow. Yumi throws another Tessen Fan at one of the Xana Bots.
"Fireball!" William exclaims and throws another fireball at the other Xana Bot. Each of the attacks hit the Xana Bots. Yumi's Tessen Fan slicing her Xana Bot and William's fireball hitting the target sign of his Xana Bot. They both explode. Ulrich and I pick up and sheathe our weapons in their proper spots. Then, with the battle won, we all walk off towards the elevator.
Afterwards
On the elevator
The elevator brings us to the entrance of the celestial dome.
"What's she trying to do now?" Jeremy asks.
"What's going on, Jeremy?" Yumi asks.
The elevator connects to the floor. "It looks like Mia wants out of Sector Five." The entrance opens and we start running.
"But I thought you said you didn't create any other sectors?" William asks.
"That's what makes it so hard to understand. At the end of Sector Five there's nothing except… the digital sea," Jeremy realizes. My eyes widen as we make our way onto the bridge.
"If she jumps in with Aelita, Aelita will be devirtualized for good," Jeremy explains. We hear the screeching of a flying Manta nearby. It looks like Mia is using it to carry Aelita.
"Don't worry, Jeremy. We'll do all we can to stop them," Ulrich says, determined.
"Yeah, I'm not going to let this happen," I say.
"But for that we're going to need our vehicles," Yumi says.
"Right, I'll see that you get them in no time flat."
Our vehicles materialize on the side of the bridge. We saddle up and take off as we try to catch up to Mia and Aelita. As we're getting closer I notice this flying Manta is a bit darker looking than the other ones. It starts releasing mines.
"Better watch out! There are mines!" Jeremy informs. We speed up. As we pass the mines, they explode. I hear Yumi scream.
"Are you okay, Yumi?" Ulrich asks as he looks behind us to see her readjust her Overwing's position.
"No problem," Yumi answers.
"Ulrich, watch out!" William exclaims. "In front of you!" Ulrich looks ahead to see several mines beneath him. They explode but he barely manages to stay out of the blast radius. The two remaining mines start chasing him and hit Ulrich's Overbike. It dematerializes, and Ulrich devirtualizes along with it.
"Ulrich!" Yumi and I exclaim in unison. We see Mia leave Sector Five with Aelita in the tunnel.
"We've got to catch up with them," William says. Holding his sword on one shoulder he uses his free hand to create a booster flame, letting him fly his Overdrive faster. We urge our vehicles to go faster too and enter the tunnel.
Outside Sector Five
We continue chasing after Mia who is controlling the flying Manta that she's on. Mia urges the flying Manta to go faster. We're getting closer and closer.
"The three of you have got to stop Mia from jumping into the digital sea."
Yumi looks up.
"We know Jeremy. We're on it," Yumi says and dives her Overdrive downward, following Mia, and we aren't far behind. We get closer to them and I now see Aelita is awake.
Using her smoke ability Mia summons her whip. Mia pulls her whip back, she strikes Yumi with it and wraps it around her. She paralyzes Yumi using the whip and the energy is now black instead of white. Yumi yelps in pain, and Mia pulls her off the Overwing. Mia pulls her whip back over to her and it disappears into black smoke.
"Yumi!" William and I exclaim.
We can't catch Yumi in time and we can only watch as she falls towards the digital sea. Yumi screams on her way down.
"Yumi no!" Jeremy exclaims.
"Yumi!" Aelita exclaims.
Then, out of nowhere, laser arrows and spades pepper Yumi's body, and she devirtualizes. Jeremy, William, and I take a collective sigh of relief. Mia looks to see who saved Yumi and sure enough, it's Odd and Sissi.
"You two took your time!" William exclaims.
"We know, sorry!" Sissi exclaims, revving up her Overbike to go faster.
"Bonzai!" Odd exclaims, flying his Overboard over to us. He fires several laser arrows at the flying Manta. They miss the target eye and Mia pushes Aelita off the flying Manta.
"I got her!" Sissi exclaims and flies her Overbike to Aelita. Aelita screams on her way down but Sissi gets to her in time. Aelita lands on the seat of the Overbike. William, Odd, and I regroup with Aelita and Sissi, then make our escape.
William looks behind at Mia.
"You know, kiddo - I'm sure I raised you to treat others right. And that is definitely not how you treat your friends," he chastises.
Mia grunts at him and using his free hand William summons a fireball.
"Fireball!" he exclaims and launches it at the flying Manta's target eye. The fireball hits the flying Manta and it explodes. This causes Mia to shout and she summons her whip again. She floats midair with it.
"And being tailgated is definitely not our style," Odd says, so we take off. I can't help but look at William… it's almost like he seems guilty that he's a Lyoko warrior and not Mia.
William, this isn't your fault. We'll free Mia from her new master… from Xana… I trail off.
Later at night
Inside the gymnasium
All of us, including a lot of other students are inside the gymnasium for some sort of surprise event. We're sitting on the bleachers. "Why would Mia want to drag me into the digital sea? I don't get it," Aelita says. Jeremy holds up his hands.
"I think it's part of Xana's new strategy," he answers and puts his hands in his pockets. "And so we've got to be very careful. Mia could come back at anytime." Mary is with us too and has taken Mia's form.
"And from now on, I'll keep up Mia's appearances as a day student. It should help all of you give Mia an alibi," Mary adds.
"Yeah, it should. I'm not sure what we would do without you, Mary," Yumi says.
"That's for sure," I nod.
Tamiya and Milly come over to us. "Hello Jeremy," the two of them smile at him.
"Hello," Jeremy says. Tamiya and Milly sit down on the bleachers in front of us.
"They don't hate you now?" Ulrich asks.
"How did that happen?" William asks.
"I guess they found someone they can hate even more," Jeremy replies and we look to Emily who is sitting on a bench with Herb and Nicholas.
Odd and Sissi are particularly quiet as students start chanting "Paco."
"It's incredible," Sissi says.
"Jim's become a real star," Odd says.
"And only thanks to you two, right?" Ulrich asks. Spotlights move to the curtain. The curtain opens and reveals Jim in what I assume are disco clothes, because they've somehow rigged a disco in the gym too. The words Paco and Disco are lit up on a screen behind him. He starts dancing. Everyone is enjoying this, save for Ulrich, but William is enjoying this too.
Even Mary has a smile on her face.
"The guy is great! A real super star!" Odd shouts. Jim laughs as he continues dancing. I can't help but feel guilty thinking Mia would really liked to have seen this.
Author's Note: With that, season 4 has kicked off! We will still have our regular two week schedule. Until the next one! Also since everyone knows there's a chance to save Franz Hopper in this timeline, I opted out a line concerning Franz Hopper's eternal devirtualization, just in case you were wondering what happened to it.
