Double Take
Inside Jeremy's room
POV Lila's
We're all inside Jeremy's room. Jeremy is typing on his computer. Odd, Ulrich, and Sissi are on Jeremy's bed. Aelita, Yumi, Mary, William, and I are watching Jeremy type on his keyboard.
"So then the guy gets up and starts to scream 'oh no! My canoe just sprung a leak!'" Odd laughs telling one of his jokes. Sissi giggles slightly. The rest of us are silent.
"Come on, it's hysterical," Odd says.
"I thought it was funny, Odd dear," Sissi compliments. She kisses him on the cheek.
"Guys, come on," Ulrich groans. Sissi stops kissing Odd.
"See? My girlfriend appreciates my sense of humor. You guys have none," Odd says.
"We do. That's the problem," Ulrich says.
"Don't worry Odd, a sense of humor comes with growing up," Yumi tells him, her arms crossed.
"Yeah. She's right, you know," William agrees.
"Come on, I'm the funniest guy in school. In fact, if I wasn't me, I'd be president of my own fan club," Odd jokes. Aelita and I look at him and laugh.
"Now that's what I call funny," Aelita says.
"Yeah, you should make more jokes like that," I tell him.
"Yeah, but the problem is I didn't mean it to be funny," Odd says.
"Do you mind making a little less noise?" Jeremy asks, working on his computer. We look back at him. A bar seems to load on an opened window.
"Some of us are trying to work. I've already spent a lot of sleepless nights recreating the rest of Lyoko and improving the digital equipment for all of you. And now I've got to figure out what to do about Mia," he says. "If you haven't forgotten, while you were doing your bad stand up act-" he looks at Ulrich and Odd.
"It wasn't me, it was him!" Ulrich points to Odd.
"-that Mia is stuck on Lyoko under the control of Xana. And if we don't do anything, eventually people are going to start noticing that Mary, isn't eating any food when she's posing as Mia," he reminds us.
"Jeremy, it shouldn't be that much of an issue," Mary tells him. "If there's any concern at all, I'll have a reasonable explanation," she tells us.
"Oh yeah, what's that?" William asks.
"That you and Odd like taking my meals," Mary replies. Sissi can't help but laugh a little.
"I didn't know spectres had a sense of humor." She catches herself. "I mean-"
Mary turns to Sissi. "That's okay, Sissi. I'm a spectre, but when Xana created me he designed me to act like a human," she explains.
"At any rate, let's try to keep it down so I can continue working. Okay?" Jeremy asks. We nod.
Afterwards
Jeremy's still working. Odd speaks up.
"You know, now that you've got some more work in maybe we can go to more important stuff," Odd says. Jeremy turns his chair.
"Like what?" he asks.
"Meatballs and spaghetti," Odd replies.
Jeremy thinks about it. "Odd, I know that you're a walking stomach, but I haven't got time to go to lunch," he tells him. He turns back to the computer. "I have to go to the factory to test out the latest codes for your new equipment."
"Can you program me some bell bottom pants with some orange stripes on the side?" Odd asks.
"Will ya?" Jeremy retorts. "I need a little thinking time."
"What you need is to hear a good joke," Odd says. We can't help but chuckle lightly. "You don't laugh enough. Lighten up."
Afterwards
Inside the cafeteria
We've just about finished our meatballs and spaghetti. Mary, posing as Mia, gave William her food. Aelita, Yumi, and myself are sitting together. Sissi, Odd, Ulrich, and William are sitting next to each other. Mary is sitting at the right end next to Aelita. Odd pushes his tray away, except he hasn't eaten his banana.
"Huh, you don't want your banana?" Aelita asks.
"It's for Einstein," he answers. "The walking stomach has to look out for our local genius."
"Isn't he sweet?" Sissi asks. Odd smiles and then Ulrich smiles too. He looks ahead of us.
"Uh oh. Delmas and Incredible Hulk at eleven o'clock," Ulrich says.
"Incredible who?" I ask.
William sighs and whispers. "We really need to get you updated on more current comic book heroes." I shrug. Jim and Mr. Delmas walk up to our table, more specifically they walk up to where Mary is. For some reason, Jim is walking like a soldier. He stops.
"Hello Mia. I was wondering, have you heard of any news from your mother by any chance? Mrs. Smith?" He asks.
"Yes sir, I have, actually," Mary replies. "I forgot to tell you, but our mother has gone traveling again on a business trip."
"Really, she has? So soon after she had gotten sick?" Mr. Delmas asks.
"She got much better, sir. Full recovery," Mary explains.
"Wonderful to hear. Please, when you hear back from her, keep me informed. There's a matter I would like to discuss with her," he tells us.
"Of course, sir," Mary says. Mr. Delmas and Jim walk away. We wait until they aren't within earshot.
"What was that about?" I ask Mary.
"I'm not sure," she replies.
"Do you think my father is getting suspicious?" Sissi asks.
"Doubtful. I pose as Mia perfectly, and it's not like I've given your father a reason to be suspicious," Mary replies, keeping her voice low for our table only.
"We should probably tell Jeremy about this," Ulrich says. We nod.
Afterwards
By the benches
We're all sitting on or around the benches. Ulrich is explaining what just happened in the cafeteria. There's a short pause.
"Uh huh, that's impossible. We've got track this afternoon. You can't keep cutting phys-ed all the time. One more time and you're going to be in a lot of trouble," Ulrich says. There's another pause.
"What are you going to do?" he asks.
Ulrich presses the end button, hanging up.
Afterwards
By the vending machines area
Now we're by the vending machines. We're just sort of lounging around, waiting for Jeremy. Ulrich is reading a magazine. Odd is trying to get a drink, he presses the number 7 a few times.
Huh. These machines must be old. 7 is supposed to be a lucky number after all, I think.
Odd punches the vending machine, but nothing comes out. It makes a noise and he groans, shaking his hand a little. Yumi offers a soda to Aelita, but she shakes her head.
"Oh, I don't believe it," he groans, coming back over to us. He then looks ahead.
"I don't believe it..." he says. We see Jeremy is in his gray gym clothes, drinking a soda.
"Wow, he sure got ready fast," Yumi says. Jeremy finishes his drink and throws the empty can behind him and kicks it. We watch the can fly all the way into the trash can.
What the heck was that?! I think, surprised.
"Two points," Jeremy says, proudly walking over to us. "Hey everybody," he greets.
"You've already finished everything you had to do?" Aelita asks.
"Piece of cake, sweetie pie, what did you think? Hands down, you're looking at the man," Jeremy replies, trying to act cool.
Uh… did he just hit on Aelita? I think.
"Huh?" Ulrich asks.
Jeremy then looks at Mary. He pulls his glasses down.
"How's it going, Mary? You know, I'm really impressed with your intellect. You won't believe the vibes I'm feeling right now," Jeremy says, his shoulder against the wall. My eyes widen, surprised he's hitting on Mary. Mary looks as confused as the rest of us. Aelita crosses her arms.
"Hey, go back to being Jeremy and leave Mary alone, would you?" I ask.
"Yeah, it's uncool, Jeremy," Yumi agrees.
"Hm? It's just that whenever I see Mary I don't feel like myself," Jeremy tells us.
We look at each other, suspicious.
"Xana," Sissi says. We nod agreeing. Odd and William run at Jeremy and Jeremy grabs them both by their collars. He throws them against the vending machines. They fall down and Odd's drink finally dispenses. Odd's hair is messed up from the impact. He and William get up.
"Hey, cool," Odd says, looking at his drink.
"Not really, if we had to be thrown like that," William chastises. All of us get into a fighting stance surrounding Jeremy. Mary summons her white electricity, getting ready. Jeremy is just standing there, slouched against the wall with his hands in his pockets. Yumi's cell phone suddenly starts ringing. She answers it and puts it to her ear, then pulls it back.
"Jeremy, but then…" she trails off.
"Huh?" she asks, looking at the Jeremy that's with us now. We surround Yumi so we can see Jeremy. Yumi got one of those video phones recently. Mary powers down.
"You mind explaining this?" Yumi asks.
We see Jeremy is on a video call.
"You mean you haven't figured out I made a double of myself? A digital copy, by activating a tower on Lyoko. This way I can work on the program for finding Mia and be at gym class at the same time," he explains.
"Two birds with one stone, then?" William asks, rubbing his neck.
"Exactly," Jeremy replies.
Odd rubs his neck too. "You might have warned us about it, Einstein."
"Sorry guys, but I was in a big hurry," Jeremy defends.
"Anyway, you oughta know that your double has got to be the biggest flirt. He flirted with Mary, Jeremy!" I exclaim. Yumi shows Jeremy the cool position his clone is in.
"That's strange. Must be some sort of emerging quality that appeared unexpectedly. Anyway, guys, I may not have hit a home run with him, but a double is still pretty good."
"Yeah I guess so..." I trail off.
Afterwards
On the track
We're sitting on the track and Jim is giving roll call. We're all standing next to each other. Mary's standing next to me. Jim then calls on Jeremy.
"Belpois?" he asks. Jeremy's clone holds up both of his hands. He fixes his glasses.
"Present," he answers.
Jim puts his hand on his head in disbelief.
"No, this has got to be a dream. Jeremy Belpois, in person, has finally decided to honor us in his presence? In the flesh?" he asks, then corrects himself. "Although, there's not a whole lot. After holding the world record for absences for every single sport," he says, putting his hands together, "We're all going to watch Mr. Skin and Bones make up for lost time by throwing his lack of weight around." He laughs at that.
One of the first exercises Jim tells Jeremy's clone to do is shot put. We're sitting down next to each other. Jeremy's clone has his arm pulled back, waiting to launch the weighted red ball.
"Okay, let me get out of the line of fire before I give you the signal," Jim tells him and backs away. He lifts his hand up.
"Go on," Jim says and swings his hand down. Jeremy's clone throws the weighted ball far. Since we're right next to the science building, it crashes into a window, Mrs. Hertz's room, actually, from what it looks like.
Mrs. Hertz's Classroom
POV William's
Yumi and I are sitting next to each other when suddenly something comes flying into Mrs. Hertz's room. I can't tell what is, but if I didn't know any better I would say it's a shot put ball. It breaks some of her equipment.
Uh… was that a shot put ball? Did Jeremy's clone throw that?! I think, surprised.
POV Lila's
That doesn't sound good, I think.
Jeremy's clone blows his hand as if the shot put ball created friction. Jim has his hand on his cheek, surprised.
"Wow, holy toledo, Belpois," Jim says, amazed. "I mean, incredible Belpois! How could you throw that so far with your arms as scrawny as a chicken, huh?" he asks, letting go of his hand. He makes a gesture with his hand, belittling Jeremy's clone.
"Well, you see Jim, he's been working out a lot," Odd replies. Jeremy's clone looks at him and Odd laughs. Jeremy's clone shakes his head. Mrs. Hertz looks down at us from the window.
"Jim! You're worse than those barbarians who burned down the Alexandria Library!" Mrs. Hertz complains.
Jim looks at her. "Thank you, Suzanne," he says, taking her comment as a compliment.
"Humph!" Mrs. Hertz exclaims and walks away. He looks at Jeremy's clone and winks at him.
"Jeremy, you're going to participate in the interschool competition against the top gymnasts. Those dodos at Central Prep won't know what hit them," he says excitedly.
Hmm… maybe making a clone of Jeremy was a mistake? I think.
Afterwards
We're sitting on the bleachers, near the track. Somebody's phone starts ringing.
"Okay champ, now let's see how you throw the javelin," Jim says, handing the javelin to Jeremy's clone. Jeremy's clone turns to the class and us. He starts spinning the javelin. Ulrich has his cell phone out.
"Jeremy, this better be important," he says. There's a short pause. Jeremy's clone then turns back to Jim and grips the javelin in his hand. Jim nods, impressed.
"I get the idea, how can you get the process to stop?" Ulrich asks. There's another short pause and Mary looks at Ulrich with concern. I do too. Ulrich gasps.
The clone's eyes pulse with the Xana symbol. The clone's hair stands on end and his body is channeling electricity. Mary is about to make a move as the clone's voice is getting deeper.
How is no one but us noticing this?! I think, worried.
Then, he returns to normal, his hair a bit messy. We take a collective sigh of relief. Jeremy's clone throws the javelin. It flies all the way to the shed house and smashes a window.
"Hey, what do you think you're doing?!" a man exclaims. Probably Michael, the gatekeeper. Jim makes a fist.
"Yahoo!" He exclaims, shaking Jeremy. "I'm going to be your personal manager, Belpois. Wait until they get a load of this. You and me, we're gonna go far." He lets go of the clone's shoulders. "Trust me, we're going to seek the thrill of victory!" he exclaims, making another fist. "We're going to breeze through the championships. The nationals. The planetaries, the interplanetary, the intergalactics!" he exclaims, then laughs.
I'm pretty sure those don't exist Jim, I muse.
"To the factory?" Ulrich asks. We nod and start shifting to the right side of the bleachers.
"Stern, Della Robbia, Bedard," Jim calls out.
"Huh?" Aelita, Sissi, and I ask.
"Go on, the three of you pick yourselves a lane and let's see how you end up running 400 meters against Belpois," Jim tells them.
Mary, Odd, and Ulrich get up then raise their eyebrows. Mary shrugs, figuring 400 meters shouldn't be all that bad since she's a spectre. Looks like 'Mia' might just end up impressing Jim.
They walk over to Jeremy's clone who gets in position. Mary, Ulrich and Odd get into their lanes, too. They're all kneeling down now.
"You ready, champ?" Jim asks Jeremy's clone.
Jeremy's clone smiles victoriously. Jim holds up his finger. "On your mark," he starts. "You ready?" Odd, Mary, Ulrich, and Jeremy's clone all get into running positions. "Set, bang!" Jim exclaims. Jeremy and Mary are the first to take off, with Odd and Ulrich falling behind.
Wow, Mary is almost completely even with Jeremy's clone. She's catching up, I think, amused by the race.
POV Mary's
Catching up to Jeremy's clone, he suddenly stops in front of me. Odd and Ulrich catch up with me but Jeremy's clone throws himself onto me, trying to attack me.
Be careful not to blow your cover. I would advise against using any electricity like you did earlier today, Future Xana tells me.
Understood, I say.
I try to fight Jeremy's clone off with Odd and Ulrich as backup. Jeremy's clone makes a fist and winds back. The clone's arm phases and he makes an attempt to punch me, but I'm able to push him off. Jim comes over.
POV Lila's
All of us catch up, including Jim, to see Mary pushing Jeremy's clone off her.
"Bedard, you'd better be careful not to rough up my champion," Jim says, his hands on his hips. "You okay, kid?" he asks Jeremy's clone, who is doing a handstand.
"I'm good, Jim," Jeremy's clone replies, landing back on his feet. Jim crosses his arms.
"Okay, better safe than sorry is what I always say. Any volunteers to go with Belpois to the infirmary?" Jim asks. All of us, including Mary, raise our hands.
We start walking with Jeremy's clone. Ulrich puts his hand on Odd's shoulder.
"I'm off to the factory with Aelita, Lila, and Sissi. You and Mary isolate Jeremy 2. And watch it," Ulrich says.
"Yeah right, easy for you to say," Odd says. He and Mary continue walking with the clone. Ulrich takes his phone and starts texting a number.
Afterwards
Lyoko's Desert Sector
After getting to the lab, William, Sissi, and I are virtualized. We land safely on the ground.
I look at myself and see that my clothes had changed to a sleeker jumpsuit-like outfit. The arms are navy blue up to the shoulder, overlapping slightly with my torso that is predominantly silver on the front and white on the sides under my arms and along my hips before ending at my knees where a band of navy blue is. My legs are all silver further down. A rounded rhombus of navy blue also rests on the front of my chest with the now snowflake-shaped amulet resting over it from the thin chain around my neck.
I must have my ice powers back, I muse, grateful since they're my favorite powers. Cool. I make a realization. No pun intended, I think.
Looking down at my legs, I see that I have a black, plastic-like pair of bands around my thigh, each possessing a loop lined up to hold the hunting knife rested inside. The shoes seem to be standard black combat boots with navy soles. A glance over my shoulder reveals a quiver, attached like a backpack, filled with red-fletched wooden arrows and a black bow attached to my hook.
Sissi's outfit hadn't undergone as much change compared to me. While the skirt was gone and replaced by leggings, making the outfit look like a jumpsuit similar to mine, it was still mainly black and white. She has knee-high black boots with the white lower half of her outfit going inside them and ending at her waist where a black belt with a white buckle rests.
The top half is black with a white line going up her abdomen and ending below her chest, two more lines extending from her shoulders to a white rhombus between her collar bones. The sleeves are white down to the elbows, becoming black the rest of the way down with clear green emeralds set into the backs of her hands. Her hair is still tied back, but in a low ponytail, making her look more serious than the high ponytail of her old avatar. She glances at her holder where her baton would be, except it's been replaced by a boomerang.
William's outfit looks the most similar. It retains its old design, except the colors are different. Some areas of his outfit are red and the other areas are orange, with black pants and black boots. He glances behind him to find he no longer has his giant sword but a double edged sword, that could almost be mistaken for a javelin.
"And virtualization!" Jeremy exclaims. Yumi, Ulrich, and Aelita are virtualized. They land on the ground in a crouched position. They look at their outfits.
Ulrich's outfit was a little different from his previous look. His outfit had changed to a completely light yellow color, with brown vertical stripes running down both sides of his body with a dark brown horizontal stripes on his left leg, while his sleeves and boots are dark brown, matching the color scheme of his outfit, and has black shoulder pads.
His back has a small holster with two bladeless katana hilts. He also has a headband and splotch of brown at the front of his outfit that appeared to be almost y-shaped. He turns his back, looking at his two katana blades and notices his demon symbol is gone.
Yumi's outfit consists of a pink and purple stylized look, with a light pink stripe near her chest, making a reference toward her Japanese heritage, and shoulder pads with cherry blossom flowers on them and some kind of grey pill-like things on her forehead.
Aelita's outfit consists of top armor with pink and white stripes, along with see-through cap sleeves. The bottom part of it consists of a blue and pink stripes around her the middle of her chest, the colors also matched her light blue see-through skirt. I notice she still has her one pink earring, and she's gained some pink markings on her face.
"These emeralds aren't exactly my style, Jeremy. What are they for?" Sissi asks.
"I did away with your Lady Luck ability. Your most useful power seemed to be wind, so now you can shoot wind out of your hands by charging the emeralds," Jeremy explains.
"Thanks, that Lady Luck ability was kind of… confusing," Sissi admits. "And I can't wait to try my boomerang," she adds.
Ulrich takes his twin katana blades out. "Twin blades, cool," he admires. "Perfect for getting a close shave." He then looks at William's double edged sword. "That looks a lot easier for you, to carry," he comments.
"Yeah, it is. I'm already thinking of new moves," he smiles.
Yumi points to Aelita's skirt. "I love your skirt, Aelita," she compliments.
"Thanks," Aelita says. "Those shoulder pads aren't bad, either," she compliments. Sissi looks at me and smiles.
"Your outfit is cool too, Lila! I like your snowflake necklace," Sissi says.
"Me too," I say. "Jeremy, did you change my outfit or was it the time machine?"
"I did," Jeremy confirms. "But you guys can discuss fashion later. The activated tower is north by northwest."
He materializes our vehicles. We hop on and drive off.
Afterwards
"I see it," Yumi points to a crater nearby. We continue driving along the path and see Mia with two Tarantulas. She has two Kunai in her hands, ready to attack us.
Mia grips her kunai in each hand. William pushes his Overdrive faster, tilting with his weight more. He glares at Mia, and I see Mia glaring right back.
William jumps off the Overdrive and lets it fly. Using both hands, he shoots his flames to cushion his landing. The flames disperse. William starts running towards Mia.
"Super Smoke!" She shouts, loud enough for all of us to hear. Mia disappears via black smoke into the ground. She emerges, bending down and letting the Overdrive fly right over her. The Overdrive flies at one of the Tarantulas and knocks it down into the crater. William's vehicle is now out of sight.
Yumi, Sissi, and I continue driving our vehicles. We watch the Tarantula that was knocked out come back up and repositions itself with its friend. Both Tarantulas raise their legs. Yumi gasps as the Tarantulas fire a volley wave of lasers at us. We fly past a few of them, but then all of our vehicles are hit. We're thrown off. Yumi and Sissi scream on their way down.
If William can do it, then I can too! I think, determined. I start concentrating my new ice powers to the palms of my hands. My snowflake amulet glows and two streams of ice comes out of my hands.
I keep them steady, and they keep me levitated. I use them to guide me to Sissi and Yumi. I notice Aelita's not screaming and I see why. She's somehow activated angel wings.
"Where did these wings come from?" Aelita asks.
"You like them? They're just a little surprise I invented in my spare time, Aelita," Jeremy explains.
"Jeremy, you are the wind beneath my wings," Aelita says. I can't help but smile, but Yumi and Sissi's screams sort of ruin the moment.
Aelita and I fly through the air, dodging the oncoming lasers. Yumi and Sissi pass underneath the plateau but Aelita is able to grab Sissi in time.
I start channeling the ice streams to the soles of my feet. As the streams in my hand start to vanish, I grab Sissi, rescuing her just in time. We fly our friends all the way back up to the plateau.
These powers are awesome. Thanks Jeremy! I muse.
Aelita and I get back to the plateau. She drops Yumi off and I drop Sissi off. We land on the ground and my ice powers disperse. Aelita's wings return to her.
"Aelita… you're an angel!" Yumi compliments. Sissi looks at me and smiles.
"You might not be the type but you're an ice princess!" She exclaims. "You really saved me," she smiles.
"No problem, Sissi," I say.
I look at Aelita.
"But Aelita is the only princess here," I smile. Aelita smiles back.
POV William's
Ulrich and I are having a difficult battle against Mia. She's not only dodging our attacks, but the kunai she's using are powerful enough to stand against our new weapons. Mia clashes one of her kunai with Ulrich's twin Katana Blades. Using her other hand she blocks my double edged sword with her Kunai.
She pulls away from us and tries slashing us with each Kunai. Ulrich and I jump back. Mia grunts and tries again. She swings hard at us but misses, and the attack causes the ground to crack beneath us as her Kunai hit it. She lifts her Kunai back up and starts swinging at us again.
She's moving too fast for me to summon my fire balls! I think. Ulrich and I dodge another incoming attack. Mia then tries to strike us with each Kunai and all of our weapons clash again.
She starts pushing Ulrich and I back with so much force our feet drag across the ground until the two of us back-flip. Mia tries striking at us but then we back-flip again and her Kunai hit the ground, causing it to crumble.
Ulrich and I pant, trying to catch our breath.
Kiddo, I gotta admit. You are one tough fighter, I think.
POV Lila's
Aelita's up in the air trying to distract the Tarantulas. They're firing at her. So far her plan is working because they aren't able to hit her. Mia is able to break free somehow, I assume she was fighting Ulrich and William. She walks towards the Tarantulas, then stops. Aelita flies down, closer to the crater. Mia walks further to the edge and I can see a hint of the Xana symbol on her forehead.
"Go on!" Mia orders one of the Tarantulas. It jumps down, screeching, and knocks Aelita out of the air. My eyes widen.
"Aelita!" I exclaim. She catches herself before hitting the ground and flies back up to the rest of us. The Tarantula lands on its feet.
Yumi, Sissi, and I look at the Tarantula that's sitting at the top of the crater. It starts firing its lasers at us and we start running, but one of its lasers hits the three of us. Our bodies start sparking.
"Watch out. The three of you just lost 40 life points," Jeremy warns. Yumi does a handstand and takes out her Tessen Fan. Sissi follows Yumi's directions, and she takes her boomerang out.
Yumi and Sissi land on their feet. Yumi's Tessen Fan flies upward at the Tarantula and misses it. Sissi's weapon, however, flies hits the side of the Tarantula's head. It's knocked down and the three of us back off. Sissi catches her boomerang. She puts it back in her holder and the Tarantula falls, landing just ahead of us.
The Tarantula looks at us and gets a little too close. However, Yumi's Tessen Fan returns just in time to slash the Tarantula's target eye. The Tarantula explodes.
"Nice one," Sissi compliments. Aelita flies all the way up, where the new Tarantula tries firing at her, but it's not enough.
Mia doesn't look too pleased as Aelita flies past our eyesight, but soon enough we see Aelita returning. She starts flying towards the Tarantula that's guarding the activated tower.
She flies underneath the small plateau where the activated tower is stationed. The Tarantula looks down to find Aelita.
"Energy field!" Aelita exclaims. We see the Tarantula getting shocked by Aelita's attack, and it falls, then explodes. Aelita flies upwards and back over to us.
"Well done!" The three of us compliment.
She smiles. Her pink and white angel wings disappear when she lands in front of the tower. She walks slowly into it and phases into its "doorway."
Inside the lab
POV Mary's
With Jeremy and Odd knocked out, Jeremy's clone channels purple electricity in his hands. The electricity's force is so strong it makes the clone's hair stand up. I channel my white electricity prepared to fight.
"Stay away from them!" I warn. He doesn't respond. I hear Jeremy starting to get up. The controlled clone raises his hands up, readying his attack. I do the same.
Protect them at all costs, Future Xana tells me.
I know, I say back to him.
Odd gets up and charges the clone.
"Odd, don't!" I exclaim. He ignores me.
"Keep your hands off my friends!" he exclaims. He jumps on the clone, which easily knocks him off, phasing a little. Odd interrupts his flow, but doesn't stop him for more than a few seconds.
I decide to charge the clone myself, and he focuses his attack on me. I'm about to unleash my attack and he readies himself to launch his at me.
"Tower deactivated," Aelita informs. The clone's purple electricity overloads. He bursts into pixels and vanishes altogether. Odd's leaned up against the holosphere and Jeremy grunts, trying to get up. Ulrich comes up the ladder shoot first then so does William.
POV Lila's
The tower's aura turns from red to blue. Mia lands on the ground behind us and we turn to her, surprised. Mia smirks and looks at us. She grips her kunai in her hands. She starts walking towards us and points the kunai at us. Yumi and Sissi back off, I slowly try to get my hunter's knife out of its hoister but Mia continues walking towards us. The three of us are close to the edge.
"Jeremy, Mia is trying to push us into the digital sea," I inform.
POV Mary's
Jeremy gets up and puts his headset earpiece into his ear. He runs for his chair.
"I'll bring the three of you back in. Hang on Lila," he says.
Jeremy sits down on his chair and starts typing.
"Oh no, it's not working," he says. The four of us go over to him. The tower connecting to the computer is broken up from the fight and its sparking with yellow electricity.
"What did you expect? Everything's breaking up," William says.
"Only one thing left to do," Odd says. He heads towards the freight elevator.
Hurry Odd, I think.
POV Lila's
Mia can't help but look at all of us. As if she's contemplating the choice she has to make. But then she makes it and starts running at us. My eyes widen as she takes all three of us down with her.
We scream on our way. I try to calm myself and start up my ice powers. I feel something in the soles of my feet, starting to build up. I can't focus clearly as we fall, but I keep trying, even as we plummet closer to the Digital Sea.
And just in time, the ice streams are finally unleashed. I'm able to grab Sissi by her shoulders and Odd swoops down on his Overboard, catching Yumi just in time.
She lands on his Overboard safely. I fly up with him and Sissi looks at his new outfit. Odd's outfit remains mostly the same. His purple color is layered differently, and his ears have been slightly altered.
I notice that Kiwi's picture on his chest is a bit smaller than it is on his original outfit, but other than that, his outfit is the least changed.
"Lovely cat ears, Odd dear," Sissi giggles slightly. As we fly, we look back to see Mia diving into the digital sea.
"Return to the past… now!" Jeremy exclaims. A big white bubble engulfs everything, sending us back in time.
Afterwards
Inside the lab
POV Lila's
We're sitting against the holosphere display case. Thanks to the return trip, any damage that occurred during the fight has been undone.
Jeremy has his glasses off. Aelita rubs her head, then stops. We're still all in our gym clothes. Mine aren't anything fancy or colorful. They're just black sweatpants and a black t shirt.
"So there's no way of bringing her back, right?" Aelita asks.
Jeremy puts his glasses back on and pushes them to the bridge of his nose.
"Not for the time being," he answers.
"Have you got a plan B?" Yumi asks.
Jeremy gets up and walks over to us. He puts his hands behind his back and looks at Mary.
"Well… we haven't got any other choice. Mary will have to continue posing as Mia. She'll have to keep pretending she's a day student," he explains.
"Isn't that a little risky? What if Delmas needs to speak to Mary and Mia in his office one day?" Ulrich asks.
Jeremy puts his hands up, making a gesture. "But it's the only way to calm Jim and Delmas."
"And Ulrich, we'll just have to keep using the excuse that Mary is away on a business trip. It's worked in the past," I add.
"That should work," Sissi agrees.
"Fine and if you ever create the clone again, Einstein, don't ask Mary or I to take the copy to the infirmary. Okay?" he asks, crossing his arms.
Later that day
Under the arches
The bell rings, signaling the end of classes. We're sitting on the steps under the arches. Everyone else is going about their business.
"Hopefully, Mary will enjoy spending her time as Mia. Let's hope she doesn't develop any emerging qualities, like someone else I know," Odd says. We see Mary talking with Mrs. Meyer. Probably about an assignment. Yumi and William walk out of the science building together.
"I doubt it, Odd," I say.
"You can't really tell there's anything different about Mia," Aelita says. "Unless you knew."
"Yeah, I'm sure Mary will keep up Mia's grades for her," Sissi says. Yumi and William walks over to us.
Mary seems to be finishing her conversation with Mrs. Meyer. She leaves her and walks over to us.
"I must admit, you children do have difficult assignments. Even as a spectre, I still need to learn new things, like all of you," she explains.
"Makes sense," Ulrich says.
"There's nothing wrong with that, Mary," William tells her. Mr. Delmas walks over to us.
"Ah Mia, when you hear from your mother, Mrs. Smith, please tell her to give me a call," Mr. Delmas says.
Mary nods.
"I will sir. You have my word," she says. Mr. Delmas nods and walks away.
"That really is weird. What do you think he wants to talk to you about?" Yumi asks.
"Not sure," Mary shrugs.
"Whatever it is, I'll settle the situation with him in time."
I'm sure you will Mary. I have no doubt about that, I think.
