Lab Rat

Inside the cafeteria

POV Lila's

Jeremy, Aelita, and I are at the end of the lunch line. We take our trays of food, and go to the table where the others are sitting.

Odd is sitting next to Sissi and Aelita sits down next to him. Jeremy sits down next to Ulrich, with William on the other side, so I sit down on Jeremy's other side. We put our trays on the table.

"What's the big news? We can't wait to hear it," Odd says.

"Yeah, come on, tell us," Sissi says, excited.

"I've found it at last," Jeremy tells him.

Aelita is about to take a sip from the dipping sauce.

"What? How to build up your muscles without any exercising?" Odd jokes, and then takes a sip of his drink. It almost looks like tea.

Sissi can't help but giggle at that. I take a bite out of my croissant and then swallow, not having bothered with the dipping sauce. I saw Mary earlier with Emily… not that I'm jealous or anything, but it would be nice if she could spend some time at our table again.

"Very funny. No, I found out how to materialize you onto Earth from the network," Jeremy reveals. He takes his croissant. I'm a bit surprised by this… I'm kind of glad Mary and Future Xana never told me every little detail of what happened to the lyoko warriors during their original adventures.

"Actually, it was much easier than I thought it would be, I applied the synchronicity principle to the supercomputer's apparatus and then I used it to develop an energizing projection," Jeremy explains, then takes a bite out of his croissant. "In order words-" he starts to explain, but Odd interrupts him.

"In English then: you now know how to send the sub somewhere directly on Earth, from inside the network right?" Odd asks.

"Exactly," Jeremy replies, and puts down his croissant. He takes a sip of his drink.

"You understood Einstein's babble?" Ulrich asks.

"Well, yeah. After all of this time I'm finally starting to get the hang of swampton physics," Odd replies.

"Odd, dear, I think that's the wrong name for it," Sissi says.

"She's right, you know," I say.

"Really?" Odd asks.

"Yes, Odd. It's called quantum physics," Jeremy corrects him. Odd crosses his arms.

"It's still muddy, though," he says.

"So let me get this straight, now you could bring us up anywhere from the Skid?" William asks.

Jeremy looks at him.

"Not anywhere at all, but I could do it in the vicinity of a supercomputer generating a copy. It's what I call teleportation," he explains.

Jeremy takes a sip from the bowl with his dipping sauce and I take a sip of my tea. I can understand why they drink the dipping sauce… but it's unappealing to me.

Afterwards

Jeremy opens the door and he, Aelita, William, and I walk out of the cafeteria. We walk down the steps and see Yumi. She goes over to us.

"Hi guys," Yumi greets. "What's up?" she asks.

"Are you ready to go and blow up a supercomputer?" Aelita asks.

"You can get us to the real world from the network?" Yumi asks.

"Yeah, we're all meeting at the factory tonight to try it out. Okay?" Jeremy asks, waving goodbye.

"You got it," Yumi replies, waving goodbye too.

As we're walking towards the factory, Aelita turns back.

"Bye," she says, and waves goodbye. She then looks ahead again.

"So," William says. "How long do you guys think it will take until Ulrich realizes it was Yumi's birthday yesterday, and that he had forgotten about it?"

"Knowing Odd, he'll probably bring it up," I reply. "Although, I have the feeling Yumi is probably going to give Ulrich the cold shoulder. Hopefully, Sissi or Odd can give him an idea on how to get back on Yumi's good side."

Aelita and Jeremy nod in agreement.

Later that night

On the bridge

We're running on the factory bridge. We soon reach the inside of the factory. Aelita and I grab a hold onto the metal ropes then start sliding down. Yumi and Jeremy slide down their ropes, then Sissi and William take their turns. Ulrich and Odd are dragging behind for some reason.

One by one we start going in the freight elevator. We're still waiting on Ulrich and Odd. Thankfully, with the freight elevator on, there's a light to brighten up the mostly pitch black factory.

"Hey you guys, hello?" Jeremy calls out to Ulrich and Odd, I guess they were talking.

Probably on the account of Ulrich missing Yumi's birthday, I think.

"You don't mind keeping up with the rest of us, I hope? Do I have to remind you, that we have a really important mission," Jeremy says, his hands on his hips.

"Okay, okay! We're not factory workers," Odd says.

"Come to think of it, we are, in a way," William points out.

"That's true," Sissi nods.

Ulrich and Odd finally swing down. Jeremy and Aelita walk inside the freight elevator. Both Ulrich and Odd make their way inside and Ulrich goes to Yumi's side. She groans a bit and turns to me, Aelita, and Sissi. Jeremy presses the red button to go down and the hangar starts closing.

"How did your class go today?" Yumi asks as the hangar continues closing.

"Not bad," Aelita says.

"Yeah, I think they went okay," Sissi agrees.

"Did yours go well?" I ask, as the hangar door closes completely.

"Fine," Yumi replies.

Afterwards

Sector Five

Skid Hangar

We're all on our spots, positioned.

"You guys ready? Energize," Jeremy says.

Beams of light engulf us one by one.

Inside the Nav Skid

Sissi and I drop into our regular seats. We strap ourselves in.

"Standing by for liftoff?"

"Standing by," Aelita responds.

"Supports away."

From our windows, Sissi and I watch the supports being lifted from the Skid.

"Ignition. Powering vertical."

The engines turn on and the Skid starts flying straight up.

"Lift off!"

Outside Sector Five

We soon exit the tunnel and hover above the digital sea.

"Okay… shields activated. Sonar activated. Stabilizers online and checked. Primary access: clear. Laser generators: online. Ready to dive," Aelita informs.

The Skid lowers to the digital sea and we're now hovering just a few feet above it.

"I'm entering the coordinates of the Replika," Jeremy says.

The Skid submerges into the digital sea.

Afterwards

Inside the tunnel

"Holoweb system online," Jeremy informs.

Digital Sea

We exit the tunnel, the entrance closes behind us.

"Okay, we're looking for a hub at zero four five," Jeremy says.

"Gotcha, Jeremy. Course heading set. I'm powering up the turbo props and auxiliary engines," Aelita says.

Everything powers up and the Skid goes faster.

"Replika, here we go again," Odd says.

"Yeah, onwards and upwards," William says.

"Can't somebody shut them up?" Ulrich asks.

"Why? They're nice, at least," Yumi replies.

"Well, would you look at that?" William says.

"They're actually talking to each other," Odd says.

"Shut up, you two," Yumi and Ulrich say in unison.

I can't help but smile at that. That's a good first step for them.

Afterwards

We reach the hub without incident, and the Skid is lowered to the hub.

"Get ready. Broadband acceleration."

The Skid starts changing to its vertical position.

"In three… two… one, zero!"

We're submerged in the hub's twirling energy.

Afterwards

We're soon shot out of the hub.

"Reverse thrust."

The Skid slows down dramatically.

"I don't think I'll ever get used to that," I say.

"You said it," Sissi agrees.

"We're clear, Jeremy," Aelita informs.

The Skid starts moving again in its horizontal form and we soon reach the Replika.

"Yeah, I know. You guys should be able to see the Replika now."

"Yes, it's right in front of us," Aelita confirms. "We're heading to the entry portal."

The Skid approaches the lock and rotates to its vertical position.

"Digital key: activated," Aelita says.

She shoots a beam of energy at the entry portal.

"I'm sending you the signal, Jeremy," she says.

"Roger. I'm about to open it up."

The beam of energy disperses and the hub's door lowers itself and the entry expands. It looks like a mouth with big teeth.

The Skid goes inside, and once we're in, the entrance closes behind us.

Afterwards

Forest Sector Replika

The Skid emerges from the digital sea. Looking around, I can tell we're in the forest sector replika.

The Skid flies all the way up, spinning it as it does, and we soon reach the plateaus.

We're able to see the forest sector replika much more clearly.

"Uh oh. There's an activated tower on the Replika," Jeremy informs.

"That means Xana is up to no good somewhere on Earth not far from the supercomputer we're looking for. But what?" Aelita asks.

"If we want to know we gotta-" Jeremy starts to say but Ulrich interrupts him.

"Hey Einstein, what if we gave your teleportation thing a try? Just to be sure, once and for all," Ulrich suggests.

"That's what I was thinking. But first, you're going to have to moor the Skid to a tower. There's one nearby: at three o clock."

"I see it Jeremy, it looks good. I should be able to secure the Skid to it," Aelita says.

"Gently, though. A little to the left - be careful," Jeremy says, concerned as Aelita is following his directions.

"Backseat driving, again. Better cut it out," Odd says.

"Yeah, Aelita can do this," I say.

"Sorry, Aelita. I know you can do it without me."

The Skid gets into position by the tower.

"Ready to moore," Aelita says.

A purple energy beam is sent out and acts as an anchor. It surrounds the blue aura of the tower.

"Skid secured," Aelita informs.

"Nice one, Aelita," William compliments.

"Now just give me a minute to activate the tower for our own use," Jeremy says.

We wait a bit and the tower's aura changes from blue to green.

"Well, we're all set. Okay guys, it's time. Ready for teleportation?" Jeremy asks.

"Ready to go, Einstein," Ulrich replies.

"Teleportation."

I disappear from my Nav Skid.

POV Lila's

We rematerialize in the real world and drop to our feet in a crouched position. We get up. We seem to be surrounded by a forest somewhere on Earth.

"Aelita?! Odd?! Lila?! I wish I knew what was happening," Jeremy frets.

"Cool it Einstein, it works!" Odd exclaims.

Looking over him and Aelita, as well as myself… it's so weird having our Lyoko outfits out in the real world. I can also feel two com links in my ears.

"Ah! Glad to hear it - but there's no reason to blow out my eardrum. Okay, where are you?"

"Well, you're not going to believe this, but we're in the jungle," Odd says, looking over it.

"And it's daytime here," Aelita adds.

"I get it. You're in a different time zone." We wait for a few seconds then Jeremy tells us our location:

"You're in the amazon region, it seems."

"Wow, that's exciting," Aelita says.

"It really is. Can't wait to tell Mary this," I say.

"But we're dressed like we're on Lyoko. How come?" Odd asks.

Aelita leaps onto a rock. She starts balancing herself. I grab my bow and look at it… it feels different. More life like. We can hear birds chirping in the jungle somewhere.

"The teleportation isn't a real devirtualization. Those aren't your real human forms that I materialized onto Earth. But they-"

Odd interrupts him and I put my bow back on its hook. "Woah, slow down FrankEinstein. Are you trying to tell us we're not really us?"

Aelita starts circling around the rock she's balancing herself on.

"Yes, you're you, but those aren't your real bodies. More like some kind of spectres in the image of your virtual manifestations."

Aelita jumps off the rock and lands next to us on her feet.

"Aelita, Lila, and I have become spectres?" Odd asks.

"Neat," I say.

That's a neat trick. I'm happy Mary and Future Xana didn't tell me EVERYTHING about what happened to the Lyoko warriors. There are some things you shouldn't know, so you can enjoy certain things like this, I think.

I put my bow back on its hook.

"In fact, you're more like polymorphing spectres that-" Jeremy starts to say but Odd interrupts him.

"Wow, pretty impressive!" Odd exclaims.

"If you say so. It doesn't matter. For now, hurry up and find the supercomputer. The teleportation won't last forever."

"How long have we got?" Aelita asks.

"52 - no 26- no 13, 13 minutes," Jeremy replies.

"The guy is a comedian. Just where does he expect us to find a supercomputer? Behind a tree?" Odd asks.

Aelita looks behind a nearby tree.

"Well, good guess, Odd," she says.

Odd and I look at a building that's nearby, it seems to be a base of some kind. We start running over to it.

Shortly after, we reach the building and head for a door.

Aelita and I are one side of the door, and Odd is on the other side. Odd looks at us and we both nod. He goes to the door and twists it open, then he starts walking in first.

Inside the base

Following him, and closing the door behind us, we walk down the corridor.

The inside of the base has a laboratory with a silver, gray, and orange color scheme. Odd reaches the front of the left side of the corridor while Aelita and I reach the area across from him. Aelita looks right and then at Odd.

"Right or left?" she asks.

Odd signals us with his thumb pointing left.

"Over there," he says.

"How can you be so sure?" I ask.

"My sense of direction is infallible," Odd replies.

Aelita and I look at each other. We shrug, then start following Odd. We head down the corridor. We keep walking until Aelita spots something next to us. She points to the glass window, causing Odd and I to stop. We look through the glass window into the next room.

A male scientist is working on something. We duck down next to a cart.

He walks over to the glass window and tries to find us, his eyes pulsing with the Xana symbol. He then walks away. Odd points straight. We start crawling past the cart.

We soon reach the end of the corridor. Odd shifts his body along to the side of the wall first, followed by Aelita, and then myself. We hear someone walking, Aelita grabs our hands.

"Hurry up, you two," Aelita says, and drags us to a door which opens automatically. "Let's go."

We get inside and the door closes behind us. We wait, listening to the person passing by and then look in the room itself. There's a lot of equipment along with some sort of display. Inside the display, looks to be some sort of mini jungle environment.

How bizarre… I think.

"What's this? A supermarket display for office plants?" Odd jokes, and walks up to the display. There's a few giant mechanical spiders in there.

"Uh, oh, guess not," Odd says.

Getting closer to the display, we see more clearly that the spiders are, in fact, robots.

Is this… Xana's doing? If he's possessed everyone here in this lab… that may explain why we haven't been caught yet, I think.

"Aelita, Odd, Lila. Hurry up with finding the supercomputer. Ulrich and William are dealing with Mia. Yumi and Sissi are fighting a bunch of tarantulas," Jeremy informs.

"Funny, their cousins are right here," Odd says

"What are you talking about?"

"Uh, nothing. Aelita, Lila, what do you two think of these suped up spiders?" Odd asks, looking at us.

"I say Xana wants to transform these tropical tarantulas," Aelita surmises.

"That would be the best guest," I agree.

"But for what? Spiders don't attack unless you sit on them," Odd says. One of the giant spiders launches itself onto the glass display causing Odd to yelp. Aelita and I put our fingers on our lips, shushing him. We give him a look.

"Okay, okay. Don't you two look at me with that tone of voice," Odd says. He lifts his paw up.

"Anyway, I'm sure nobody heard anything."

The door opens, revealing a scientist with protective gloves and a light green suit, perhaps a chemist's suit of some kind. He's wearing glasses too, along with brown pants and brown shoes.

"You were saying?" Aelita and I ask in unison. I'd normally smile at that, but this is no laughing manner.

The possessed man raises his hand and Odd cocks his paw.

"Laser Arrow!" Odd exclaims. Odd fires two Laser Arrows, which in the real world, are purple. They fly at the possessed man but he manages to grab them somehow.

"Did anyone teach you how to play fair?" Odd asks.

"Since he's possessed by Xana, probably not!" I exclaim.

"Fair enough!" Odd agrees.

The possessed man throws Odd's Laser Arrows at him. Odd ducks under one of them but the other one gets him. It shocks his shoulder, causing him to slam into the side of a desk.

The possessed man smirks, his eyes continuing to pulse with the Xana symbol.

"Hey, that thing really stings," Odd compliments.

Aelita summons her energy field, which is now a yellow reddish color instead of the pink color on Lyoko. I channel my ice powers to my hands and my snowflake amulet glows.

"Energy field!" she exclaims.

"Ice blast!" I exclaim, and let a dark blue blast out of both my hands. Our attacks fly at the possessed man but he ducks and they hit the wall behind him. The possessed man sends a blue energy blast at us, but I don't have enough time to react.

Aelita breathes in, then generates electricity into a force field that engulfs us. As spectres, we're able to do this now.

The possessed man starts to fire his energy blast at us, trying to force his way through the shield. He manages to break through. The force field powers down and the energy blast hits Aelita. She's thrown against the bottom of the display.

I look back at her and she starts flickering. I look back at the man and glare at him. I start channeling my ice powers as he readies his energy blast again.

My snowflake amulet glows, the possessed man launches his attack at me. I launch my ice blast at him. Our attacks clash and I try to push the possessed man's energy blast back.

Instead, he pushes it forward. Both attacks hit me. I scream a bit in pain as I'm thrown against the display case next to Aelita. My body flickers with hers.

The possessed man walks over to us and lifts his hands, ready to attack. Odd manages to get behind him and swings a pole he found at the man. However, instead of being hit by the pole, the man grabs it. Odd is thrown into the air and out of the room, the door automatically opening, then closing behind him.

Our bodies stop flickering. Aelita summons her energy field in one hand, while I summon my ice powers to both of my hands. My snowflake amulet glows. Aelita and I look at each other and nod. We launch our attacks at the possessed man's back, which sends him flying to the door.

The door opens automatically, and the possessed man flies out, the door closing behind him. We hear Odd screaming and rush out of the room, the door closing behind us.

We reach the corridor where Odd was just thrown onto the floor again. We look at the doorway, seeing the possessed man walk towards Odd.

"Hey, you!" Aelita exclaims. She summons her energy field and I ready my powers.

We launch them at the possessed man, he flies into another room. Odd gets up and touches a screen, which closes the door and locks the possessed man in the room.

"You two are great spectres," Odd compliments.

"You really think so?" Aelita asks.

"I mean, we try," I say.

"No medals yet, you two. We still have to find the supercomputer," Odd reminds us.

Odd starts leading the way, and we follow him to a corridor with multiple doors leading to multiple rooms.

"Infallible sense of direction, huh Odd?" Aelita asks. "I was positive we should have gone in the other direction." Aelita puts her hands on her hips.

"Yeah, it looks like we need to go back," I agree.

Aelita and I are about to leave, but then Odd speaks up. He grabs Aelita's arm.

"Hold on a minute, you two," he says. He walks over to a door and peers into its window.

"Bingo!" he exclaims. We run over to him.

"Jeremy, we've found the supercomputer," Aelita informs.

"Great. You'd better destroy it right away because Yumi and Sissi can't hold on much longer," Jeremy says.

Odd presses the touch panel screen that unlocks the door. He touches another item on the screen, but it turns red with a low alarm like noise.

"Oh no, an entry code," Odd groans. "Why not a couple of guard dogs, too?"

"Let me handle it," Aelita says. She puts her hand in front of it and starts singing. The hack works. The screen turns green and the door opens.

We walk inside and the door closes behind us. The supercomputer has an energy shield around which is generated by three beams of energy.

"Let me handle this one," Odd says. He cocks his paw and fires at the shield. "Laser Arrow."

His attack doesn't do anything.

"I don't believe this," Odd sighs.

"Jeremy, we've got a problem. The supercomputer has an energy shield around it," Aelita informs.

"You have to find out where the shield is coming from. I can't do anything from here but hurry up," Jeremy says.

We look around the room, after a moment, Aelita points somewhere.

"There, that must be the lens projecting the energy shield. If we destroy it, there's a good chance we'll deactivate the shield," Aelita explains.

"You could have found me a bigger target. No one could possibly hit it from this distance. Except me," Odd says.

"I don't know, Odd, I could probably give you a run for your money," I say.

"Maybe," Odd says.

The door opens behind us, and we see three scientists now in total. The one we fought earlier and two of his friends.

"Go ahead, Lila and I will take care of them," Aelita says. The man we first fought sends an energy blast at us again, but Aelita uses her energy field to surround her and myself.

"Laser Arrow!" Odd exclaims, firing a Laser Arrow behind us. We then hear the energy dispersing.

"Yeah! Adios, amigos!" Odd exclaims. "We're going to-" he starts to say, but then suddenly we disappear.

Inside the Nav Skid

I groan, waking up back in my Nav Skid. Sissi isn't here, so I guess Yumi and Sissi were devirtualized earlier. I hear Odd groaning too.

"What is this, what's going on now?" Odd asks.

"Xana has taken control of the tower, you guys. Your teleportation has stopped. You might as well come back home," Jeremy explains.

"I guess so…" I trail off.

"Wake up, Aelita," Jeremy tells her. There's a short pause.

"Aelita, let's get out of here. Mia and company have just arrived.," he informs.

"Okay, let's go," Aelita says as a tarantula starts firing at us.

The Skid goes downwards and soon submerges into the digital sea.

Afterwards

Inside the lab

Aelita, and I are standing next to each other. Odd, Sissi, and Yumi are standing next to each other too. Ulrich and William are standing near Jeremy's chair.

"There's no sense dissing ourselves," Ulrich says.

"Yeah, he's right. After all, we did our best," William says.

"Maybe, but we've still got to find out what Xana's planning to do with those cybernetic spiders," Aelita says.

"I wish I knew… we didn't have anything like that in my time," I sigh.

"Well, that being the case, we'll have to go back onto the Replika, teleport you back in, and destroy the supercomputer," Jeremy says.

"Well, at least we know where it is now," Sissi says.

I nod.

"That's true."

Odd covers his mouth with his hand and yawns.

"Well, until then, does anyone mind if I sleep a few years?"

"Okay, we get the message. We can all use some sleep," Yumi says.

Afterwards

On the bridge

Aelita, Odd, Jeremy, Sissi, William and I walk on the bridge. Yumi and Ulrich are dragging behind us, hopefully Ulrich is trying to fix the situation he was in earlier. Odd, Sissi, and William continue on while we stop and look at them.

"Aw, thanks Ulrich. That's very sweet," Yumi says, taking Ulrich's wrapped present. She kisses him on the cheek and he blushes. Then she pulls away.

"Aren't you going to open it?" Ulrich asks.

"In Japan, you never open up a present in front of the person that gave it to you," Yumi says.

"Well, that's fine with me," Ulrich agrees.

Aelita looks at them and I can't help but feel bad.

"I bet you're thinking about your own birthday," Jeremy says. Aelita turns to us.

"I am… Lila… would you happen to…?" she trails off.

I shake my head.

"I'm sorry… I never knew you or when your birthday was. I didn't get the chance. A while back, though, when I forged your health papers, I did create a fake birthday date."

"You did?" Jeremy asks, looking at me. Aelita looks at me too.

"Well? Go on," she insists. I smile.

"January 15th, 1994."

"I like that a lot, thank you Lila." Aelita smiles.

"Good I'm glad," I say.

"Me too," Jeremy says, fixing his glasses to the bridge of his nose.

"Hey, what's the hold up?" Sissi asks. She and Odd are leaning against the rails.

We look at the others.

It seems William had gone ahead already, not having bothered waiting. I don't blame him really. I think there are days where he still feels guilty being here when Mia isn't.

"Yeah, will you hurry up before we fall asleep on this bridge?" Odd asks.

"Yeah, we're coming, you two. No need to wake the whole town up," Ulrich replies.

Ulrich and Yumi start walking over to us, and we start heading back together.

Afterwards

Lila and Aelita's room

"And that's pretty much it," I say, relaying what went down tonight to Mary.

"I see… well, I'm glad that you had an interesting experience in the amazon forest."

"It was interesting, for sure. I think I'm happy you and Future Xana never told me every single thing on what went down with the Lyoko Warriors. I think it helps to have a few surprises in store for my experience."

"I agree. I'll let you go, have a good night, Lila," Mary says.

"You too, Mary. Goodnight," I say, and hang up. I end the call, then put my cell phone on my desk.

Aelita comes in with her pajamas on. She goes to our opened shared closet and puts the rest of her clothes, along with a few items, in there. She goes to sit on her bed.

I look at her.

"I'm glad you at least have a birthday you can celebrate. I hope you don't mind that I made one up for you a while back."

Aelita shakes her head then smiles.

"Not at all, I love it."

I smile back at her. Happy I can give my mom this gift.

Author's Note: In the canon version, we never found out what date Jeremy chose as Aelita's birthday. I felt this was the best way to solve that mystery since Lila did create Aelita's fake one well early on in the story.

With season 4 part 2 officially on the way now, I will be going back to bi weekly updates.

Until the next one!
