POV Lila's

Inside Lila and Aelita's room

Dear Diary,

Today is mail day! I am really hopeful that I'll be receiving some letters from Cameron and Kayori. It's been a few days since our successful trip to the Replika. With that one gone, we're one step closer to defeating Xana. I keep thinking about Future Aelita. Wherever she is… she must be alone. I truly hope she is okay. I believe Xana is right... that she truly is alive, it's the only reason he would have a monster pose as Future Aelita.

My Aelita, however, is someone I feel bad for because she doesn't really have any real family who could send her some mail. I never knew what happened to Grandma Anthea… but from the nightmares and what Aelita told me, she was taken. It's sad to think they'll never truly be reunited.

While I do not know everything about the year the Lyoko warriors meet Tyron and his ninjas, something I haven't really thought about since I first arrived here in the timeline is Xana's survival. I really hope we beat him in a way he'll never see coming so the Lyoko warriors can lead normal lives in this timeline. They won't have to deal with Tyron.

You know what's strange about all of this time travel business? To me, this is still technically timeline 1. But because Future Aelita came from her dark future, she prevented my death in this timeline and made it timeline 2. Timeline 0 is the timeline me and my future self came from. Two Lilas should have never existed, but… Xana does consider me a threat. So, I guess he did what everyone thought he wouldn't in the dark future. He killed me. Hence why this is now timeline 2. Ugh… it's so confusing. Even for me.

Anyways, going to head to the cafeteria for mail call.

Lila.

I close the diary and lock it with its key. I put everything in the drawer and leave the dorm.

Inside the cafeteria

We're sitting at the table. Jim has been calling out names for mail call. Ulrich and Odd are sitting next to each other, with Sissi sitting on Odd's right side. William is sitting next to Ulrich on the left side. Mary is sitting at the end of the table, next to Jeremy.

"Jeremy Belpois? Lila Smith?" Jim asks. I smile in relief. It looks like my assumption was right.

"Here, Jim," Jeremy says, raising his hand.

"I'm here too," I say, raising my hand with him.

Jim hands Jeremy his blue wrapped letter, and then gives me two small boxes. I take them. Jim walks away and continues to call out students names.

"That's the second letter for you today. That's not fair, even Lila got something. I haven't gotten anything," Odd complains.

"Be patient, Odd, mail call isn't over yet. There's still hope," Aelita smiles. "And I haven't gotten anything, either," she adds.

"Yeah, but you don't know anyone else besides us," Odd says. Aelita sighs, and Sissi glares at Odd. He looks at her and realizes his mistake. He then looks at Aelita. He puts his hand on his hoodie.

"Oh, sorry Aelita, I didn't mean it that way," Odd says. Jim comes back to our table.

"Aelita Stones, there's a postcard for you," Jim says, handing it to Aelita. I see there's a maple leaf on it, maybe it's from someone who lives in Canada?

But... who would that be? I think, curious.

"That's weird," Aelita says, looking at it.

"Tell us who it's from," Ulrich says, leaning in.

"Yeah, come on," Sissi says.

"I have no idea," Aelita says. Jeremy points at the postcard.

"I bet it's from Xana. He must be on vacation. We've had no signs of him," he jokes. Aelita looks at Jeremy and then looks at the postcard. She starts reading it.

"Hi Aelita, thinking of you in Montreal. Warmest regards," she reads. She looks back at the others.

"There's no signature," Aelita says.

"That's really weird," William comments.

"Well, I wouldn't mind getting something, signed or not," Odd says.

Jim comes back to our table again. He places a heavy box on the table.

"Finally, this is for Odd Della Robbia. Last, of course, like he is in everything," Jim says, then walks away.

"Well, it's about time. I was wondering how long my parents would forget about their favorite son. I bet it's packed with lots of goodies," Odd says, opening the box.

"But don't worry, I'm generous by nature," he says. He looks inside of it.

"Huh? I wonder what's inside." Odd takes a letter and a jar out.

"Is that all there is? Dog food, and nothing else at all?" Odd asks.

"Makes you wonder who their real son is, you or Kiwi," Ulrich jokes. Jeremy, Aelita, Sissi, and William, and I can't help but laugh.

Jeremy opens his letter and reads it. He stands up.

"Check this out. I won first place in a contest from cosmos future formula magazine," he reveals.

"Interesting, what's your prize?" Mary asks.

"An aerial invitation in a jet fighter with a live fixed target. Air to ground strike missile exercise," he replies. "And it's for today, too."

"That's cool," Ulrich says.

"Yeah, but the problem is I don't remember entering the contest," Jeremy says. "Do you think this could be Xana's doing?"

"Xana's got nothing to do with it. It was yours truly," Odd tells us, lifting his fingers in the air excitedly. "Actually, to increase my chances of winning, I sent in entree forms with all of your names," he explains.

He points to Jeremy. "And it looks like it worked because Jeremy's name was drawn."

"It's fine that I won, Odd, but the prize can't be transferred. I'm the only one who has the right to go on that flight," Jeremy says, pointing to himself.

"Oh, you're kidding," Odd says, taking the envelope from Jeremy. "Well, what do you know. I never even thought of that." He and Jeremy sit back down. All we had for lunch today was soup, so we're all finished.

"Anyway, I can't possibly go. I've got to stay near the factory," Jeremy says, taking a sip of water.

"You've gotta go. This is the chance of a lifetime," Odd says.

Jeremy puts his cup down, and Aelita looks at him.

"Like you said, Xana's been pretty quiet lately. There isn't much risk," she says. Aelita puts her hand on Jeremy's arm.

"Lila and I can keep our eyes on the superscan for you."

"For sure," I nod.

"Jeremy, you're not by chance freaking out, are you?" William asks.

"What?! I'm not-" Jeremy starts to say, but Odd gets up and slides the envelope on the table.

"Oh, you are, admit it. You're totally scared," Odd says.

"No, you two are both wrong." Jeremy points to William and Odd. Just so you both now, I'd love to go," he says, snatching the envelope back from Odd.

The bells ring, signaling class time.

"Anyway, we've got to go to class now," Odd says, grabbing his box.

"Yeah, we really should get going," Sissi says. She and Odd get up, the two of them walk away together. Sissi has both of their trays.

I open my beige backpack and put the boxes in, zip the backpack up, and shoulder it onto my back. Jeremy gets up with his tray.

"I really envy you, Einstein," Odd says. "You're going to get the ride of your life.

"Yeah, I think you'll have a lot of fun, Jeremy," Sissi agrees.

Aelita, Mary, William, and I take our trays. We get up and walk past Jeremy, who seems to be regretting what he just agreed to.

Mrs. Meyer's Class

Mrs. Meyer is writing on the blackboard, I'm sitting on Aelita's left side, taking notes. Jeremy is sitting on Aelita's right side, also taking notes.

Odd and Ulrich are sitting in the back. Mary and Sissi are sitting together too.

"Alright now, let's concentrate on this exercise. In a normal orthogonal figure, O. I. J, on given points A, B, C. We first set up the points on the diagram," Mrs. Meyer explains.

Aelita looks at Jeremy's notebook for some reason.

"Then we calculate points A, B, and B, C," Mrs. Meyer continues.

Jeremy notices Aelita is looking at him.

"Then on the diagram, we place point D. So that the vector AB, equals vector DC," Mrs. Meyer says. Aelita stops looking at his work, and starts to write again. She looks at my notes for some reason, then I look at her. She turns back to her notebook, only to look back at Ulrich and Odd.

"I missed the beginning. Okay if I look at your paper?" Aelita asks, in a low whisper.

"But why, it's all on the blackboard?" Odd asks, in the same tone.

"I know, but it makes my eyes tired," Aelita replies. She takes Odd and Ulrich's papers, looking at theirs. Jeremy looks at her while she does this.

"Hey, what are you up to? Huh, Aelita?" Jeremy asks.

"Nothing. I want to know who wrote the card," Aelita answers.

"You think it was one of us that sent it?" I ask.

"Come on, Aelita, wake up. Look at the postmark, it's Canada, not Kadic Academy," Jeremy replies.

"You're right, it's a real mystery," Aelita says, a bit loudly.

"I don't see anything mysterious about it, Miss Stones. You simply have to concentrate," Mrs. Meyer tells her.

"Uh...yes ma'am," Aelita says.

Afterwards

Inside Lila and Aelita's room

Aelita is in the library, studying. With her there, I'm free to check out what I got. I open the first box from Kayori, in it is a letter and what appears to be a few photos. I take the letter first, and open it. It's handwritten.

Dear Lila,

I hope this gets to you sooner rather than later. I am so sorry for not being able to get in touch with you. If it does get to you later, then you should know the airport service lost my bag. We never got it back, so it took a few months to save up for a cell phone. The new house is great, it's in one of the photos I sent you. I even took a photo of my school, and what it's like inside of the house. Since I lost my luggage, I no longer have your number. Below is my new number. I plan on keeping it for a while. Again, I'm really sorry if this package took a long time to get to you. Anyways, here's the number.

I look at the number on the letter and then continue reading.

Even though we have different time zones, feel free to text or call me whenever. I'd love to hear from you and find out what's going on with the others. As well as how things are going with Mia… if there's been any progress. You know?

Kayori.

Glad she's okay, I think.

I'm about to take out my cell phone to call her but it starts ringing. I pick it up and press the talk button. I put it to my ear.

"Aelita?" I ask.

"We've got trouble. There's an activated tower in the ice sector," Aelita replies.

"Got it. I'll get Sissi," I say. She ends the call, and I put my cell phone back in my pocket. I place the letter on Aelita's desk, then run over to the door. It's a good thing Aelita got her own laptop a month or so back, it really comes in handy. It's pink too, which is great for her.

Outside Sissi's room

I knock on the door, and Sissi opens it. She looks at me.

"Something wrong?" she asks.

"There's trouble. Ice sector," I reply.

"Got it," she says. I back up, so she can leave her room. She closes the door, and we head out together.

Afterwards

Inside the lab

All of us except for Yumi are in the lab. I'm next to Aelita, who is typing on the keyboard. She's sitting on Jeremy's chair.

The freight elevator's doors open and Yumi runs into the lab.

"I got here as soon as I could," Yumi explains.

"Great you're right on time. Now Aelita and Lila can send the eight of us to Lyoko," Ulrich says.

"You should have brought a sweater along, because we're heading straight to the Ice Sector," Odd jokes.

"I'm sure she can handle the weather," William jokes along.

I smile at that. Who knew both Odd and William would be the jokers of the group.

The cell phone window pops up with a number, but for some reason no picture.

"Hello?" I think it's Jeremy.

This cannot be good, I think.

"Hello? Can anybody hear me?" Jeremy asks. Aelita stops typing.

"Jeremy?" Aelita asks. She puts the headset earpiece on then adjusts the mic.

"It can't be. If he's in that plane, then so is his voice," Odd jokes.

"Not now, Odd dear," Sissi says.

"Thanks, Sissi. Jeremy, we read you loud and clear. We're at the factory," Aelita informs.

"If you guys have all met up over there, that means there's an activated tower," Jeremy says.

"Relax, Jeremy, we're on it," Aelita says, trying to reassure him.

"Just one little detail. Xana's taken control of the fighter jet I'm in."

We look at each other, concerned.

"What are you going to do?" William asks.

"Unfortunately, the plane is armed. Xana must have a target in mind."

"Listen, give us your barring and position. Okay?" Aelita asks. "I'll check out your trajectory."

"Good idea, Aelita. Here are my GPS coordinates. N 4, 7, 4,3, 1,3, E 0, 1,3,4,4, 5. And we're heading northeast, barring 0, 4, 2."

Aelita starts typing again.

"Nothing in sight," she says. A window pops, it starts mapping the jet's trajectory.

I feel bad for Jeremy. Of all of the things to happen… I trail off.

There's a beep, and the satellite image confirms the location.

"Oh no!" Aelita exclaims.

"What is it?" Jeremy asks.

"The fighter jet is headed for the factory," Aelita replies.

"Then that means Xana's target is the supercomputer."

"According to my calculations, the factory will be in firing range in fifteen minutes," Aelita says.

"That's all the time you've got left to deactivate the tower."

Odd and Ulrich grunt, concerned for the safety of our friend.

"Hurry down to the scanner room," Aelita says, the others start leaving.

"Lila and I will stay here to start the virtualization process. You know what to do, right?" she asks.

"Of course," I reply.

Aelita starts typing and the others head down to the scanner room.

"Yumi, Ulrich, Odd. Are you three ready? Here we go," Aelita says. She continues typing while I watch.

"Transfer: Ulrich, Transfer: Odd, Transfer: Yumi."

I look at the windows that are open. I smile. She's such a pro.

"Scanner: Ulrich, Scanner: Odd, Scanner: Yumi. Virtualization," she says. There's a short pause.

"Jeremy, I should have listened to you. You were right about Xana attacking this afternoon."

"Oh, don't worry, Aelita. I didn't think Xana would really attack, either. It was just an excuse. The truth is, you and Lila wouldn't believe how afraid I am of flying," Jeremy says.

"Lila is going to virtualize Sissi, William, and I, then launch a pre-set virtualization for herself," Aelita says. "I'm going down to the scanner room now. Do you want her to stay with you, while she performs the procedures?" she asks.

"No, that's okay. Good luck everybody," Jeremy says.

Aelita takes the headset earpiece off and places it on the keyboard.

"You can do this," Aelita says.

"Thanks," I say. Aelita gets off the chair and I get on. She runs over to the ladder shoot and starts climbing down. I get to work.

Afterwards

Lyoko's Ice Sector

My vision returns, and I see that I'm falling. I soon land on the ice with the others. I get up.

"Hurry, the tower should be that way," Aelita points in the direction.

"We've got to walk there?" Odd asks, pointing in that direction.

"Sorry, but I didn't have time to call up the vehicles," Aelita says.

"Neither did I," I add.

Odd groans, he puts his hand on the back of his head.

"Well, you wanted a warm up. Now you've got one," Ulrich says. He starts running.

"It might even do you some good," William says. Yumi starts running, then William, then Sissi.

"Come on, Odd dear, it won't be that bad," she says.

"Fine," Odd sighs. He starts running too. With the others on their way, Aelita and I nod. We start running too.

Shortly after, we finally see the tower not too far away from us. We keep running.

"There's the tower, it looks pretty quiet to me," Aelita says.

"Maybe a bit too quiet, though?" I ask.

"Yes, I think so too," Aelita replies.

"You two are both right. Without Einstein, and his radar, it's not going to be as easy as usual," Ulrich says.

"Yeah, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know bad guys are lurking around here," Odd says.

"Somewhere."

Suddenly, Krabs march out of their hiding place.

"Looks like you were right," Sissi says.

"You see? What did I tell you?" Odd asks. The Krabs growl as they head towards us.

"What's up, Krab cakes?" Odd taunts.

"Super sprint!" Ulrich exclaims. He uses his super sprint, leaving a yellow trail behind, to run around a small ice structure. He slices the Krab underneath it. Yumi and Sissi both run over to a nearby ice structure to hide. I stay behind with William.

"William, your turn!" Ulrich exclaims.

"On it," William says. He stops running and turns to the Krab.

"Lila, freeze the Krab's legs if you can."

"Sure," I say. The Krab starts charging its laser and William takes out his double edged sword. I focus my powers to my hands, and my snowflake amulet glows. My hands get cold, and I fire off an ice blast at the Krab's legs.

The Krab fires a laser at me just as its legs are frozen, but William shields me by using the front end of his blade.

William runs to the Krab and cuts the frozen legs off. The Krab falls down, head first. He jumps in the air and lands on the Krab's head. Plunging the front end of his blade into the target eye. Light shines from within, and William jumps off the Krab's head. It explodes, and what's left of the Krab disappears.

Ulrich, William, Yumi, Sissi, and I regroup with Odd and Aelita, who had stayed behind as well.

"You got rid of two of them, just for three to take their place," Odd says. The three Krabs start moving towards us.

We retreat behind an ice wall to reassess, but before we can say anything, we hear a Krab growl.

"Xana's trying to delay us, you guys," Aelita tells us.

"What do we do now?" Sissi asks.

"This. Ulrich, William, Odd," Yumi says, the Krabs start firing off lasers. "We have to force our way through."

"Good, idea Yumi. You sure know how to talk to men," Odd says.

"For sure," William agrees. Ulrich nods too.

We get to work. Yumi takes her Tessen Fans out, and I take my hunter's knife out of its hoister.

Ulrich yells, and a Krab fires off at us. Ulrich, Odd, and William split one way while Sissi, Yumi, and I let the other two Krabs follow.

Sissi and I get the attention of one Krab.

"You've got this, Sissi?" I ask.

"On it," Sissi replies.

We stop running, and let the other Krab continue to pursue Yumi. Sissi takes out her boomerang, and the Krab starts charging its laser. It fires at me, but I block it. I send the energy back to the Krab, but it ducks.

I get out of the way so Sissi can throw her boomerang. It flies at the Krabs legs, cutting them off one by one before returning to Sissi. The Krab's head falls down. It's about to try charging its laser, but then we see Aelita. Aelita is using her angel wings to fly all the way to the tower. Except she's being chased by black smoke. That can only mean one thing.

Mia, I think.

The Krab somehow manages to shoot a laser, and Sissi pushes me out of the way. Sissi takes the laser ahead, her chest shocking. I'm pushed to the ice. I lose my weapon in the process. Sissi flies back, falling on the ice.

"Why you!" I exclaim. I get up, and run over to pick up my weapon. Once I do, I jump onto the Krab's head and plunge my hunter's knife deep into the target eye. Light shines from within, and I take my weapon out. I jump off in time, and land on the ice. I go over to Sissi, who gets up.

"You okay?" I ask.

"Yeah, but what about Aelita?" Sissi asks.

I look over to see Odd is already there by Aelita's side. Mia looks at him as she uses her black smoke to hover Aelita above the ice. Odd does hand a stand, then fires off a Laser Arrow at Mia. She uses her arm's spikes to block Odd's attack. It's reflected off her arm and right back at him. He's tossed off the ice and devirtualizes in a cloud of pixels.

"Odd!" Sissi and I exclaim.

Together, we run towards Mia, who has her hand raised. She starts guiding the unconscious hovering Aelita towards the digital sea.

"Sissi, your boomerang," I tell her.

"Right!" Sissi exclaims. She takes it out of her holster and throws it at Mia. The boomerang flies at Mia but she manages to grab it with one free hand. She chucks it back at Sissi, devirtualizing her instantly.

"Okay, now you're really going to regret that," I say. I put my hunter's knife back in its sheath, I start running for Mia, who continues leading Aelita to the digital sea. I pass by Yumi and Ulrich who are blocking the Krab's lasers.

"Hurry, Lila!" Ulrich exclaims, using his twin katana blades.

"Get to Aelita!" Yumi exclaims.

William is nowhere to be found, the Krab that Odd was fighting must have gotten him.

I hear an explosion from behind me, then I see Yumi's Tessen Fan fly past me. It hits Mia's hand, and she lets go of Aelita. Mian rubs her hand and looks at Yumi and I. I take my hunter's knife out, and Yumi readies her Tessen Fan. She must have lost her other one earlier. Mia summons her kunai using her black smoke ability and grips them in her hands.

Yumi throws her Tessen Fan, and it flies at Mia. Mia puts her kunai up, and the Tessen Fan bounces off her weapons.

I pull my arm back, and throw my hunter's knife. My weapon flies at Mia, but she uses her kunai to send it flying into the ice. It gets stuck.

Mia grips her weapons again, and runs towards us.

"It's over for you two," Mia says.

Mia runs at us and we back up. Unfortunately, we're pinned against an ice wall. Mia runs up and plunges her kunai into us. We devirtualize in a cloud of pixels, Mia being the last thing we see.

I just hope this gives Aelita enough time to deactivate the tower, I think.

Inside the scanner room

Inside the scanner

The scanner's doors open. I step out, and so does Yumi. Odd, Sissi, and William walk over to us.

"Welcome to the club," Odd sighs.

"We should probably head on up there," William suggests.

"Right," Sissi says. We head to the lab.

Afterwards

Inside the lab

The freight elevator's doors open. We run over to Jeremy's chair.

"Oh no!" Yumi exclaims. We look at the window tracking the plane's movements that Aelita left open. It's getting pretty close to the factory. But, for some reason, there's another plane following Jeremy's… that can't be good.

"This can't be happening," I say.

We continue to watch the plane's progress. But suddenly the plane following Jeremy, goes past it.

What just happened? I think.

"That's my remedy for a swelled head," Ulrich jokes.

He did it, he beat Mia, I think.

"Aelita, the tower, hurry," Ulrich tells her.

We continue to watch the planes. Now Jeremy's plane is ahead, along with an incoming missile. The guided missile is getting close to the factory… so is Jeremy. This is going to be close. I start typing on the keyboard, getting ready to launch a return trip.

Odd, Yumi, Sissi, and William gasp.

Come on, Aelita, I plead internally.

I hover my finger on the enter key. The program is nearly ready.

The missile and plane hurtle their way towards the factory.

"Tower deactivated," Aelita informs. I sigh in relief.

"Return to the past now!" I exclaim, and press the enter button. A big white bubble comes out of the holosphere. It engulfs everything, and sends us back in time.

The same day

Later that day

Inside Lila and Aelita's room

Aelita's in Jeremy's room. She told me she suspected one of us had sent her the letter. She went there to investigate… knowing Jeremy, it was probably him.

Odd's already gone off to the fighter jet testing, taking Jeremy's place and name, this time. I open my box from Cameron. Inside is a letter and a small box, too. The letter reads:

Open box first.

I do. I open my drawer, and I take my diary's key out. I use the key to cut open the box, then put the key on the desk.

I search the box for something that's in there… then grasp onto what feels like a necklace. I pull the item out, and my eyes widen.

To my surprise it's the other time machine necklace. The original one from Future Aelita's dark future. I put it on the desk, open the envelope, and pull the letter out. I unfold it and begin to read.

Lila,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I still plan on surprising Emily and the others when I return back to Kadic.

Unfortunately, in order to save up more money I had to cut my phone bill in half. So not too many long distance calls anymore. I wanted to send your other time machine necklace, just in case you might need it one day. I'm not sure if you ever will. I mean why would you, you know? It's not like you're planning on returning to that dark timeline or anything.

I should reach my goal around the end of September. Hopefully, you'll have freed Mia then. By the way, what's it like to have Sissi and William in the group? Must be pretty interesting.

I know Sissi must have changed drastically if she's in the group, from what you explained to me the time you told me Yumi was lost at sea. I was pretty surprised to hear it, honestly.

Especially since she was so nasty to Aelita that one time with her toy elf. Give my wishes to the others and let them know I'm doing okay. You'll be seeing me soon enough.

Cameron.

I smile slightly at that. It'll be good to see him again.

"Returning to the dark future… that's something I never considered," I say to myself.

Especially when Future Aelita eventually reunites with all of us. She might want to go back there with me as soon as possible… but would that be fair to everyone else in this timeline?

That's something to think about… I trail off in thought.
