Kadic Bombshell
In Literature Class
POV Lila's
"And at the end of the play, Juliet drinks a potion which makes her appear to be dead. Romeo, thinking he'd lost his young bride, poisons himself. And when Juliet wakes up, and sees the lifeless Romeo, she drives a dagger through her heart," Our literature teacher reads. It seems she's managed to captivate some of the other students… I'm sitting next to Sissi, who's crying.
The bells ring, signaling the end of class. I put my materials into my backpack.
"Don't forget to review the balcony scene for next week," Our literature teacher reminds us.
A lot of the students start leaving. Mary walks over to me and Sissi, who already collected herself, as well as her materials. She puts her backpack on, and the three of us walk out of the classroom, following the other students. The others join us, too.
"I have to admit… that was quite beautiful," Mary says. "Wasn't it, Sissi?" she asks.
"Yeah, it was," Sissi agrees.
"More like idiotic," Odd comments.
"What didn't you like about it, Odd? It's a wonderful love story, isn't it?" Aelita asks.
"That's it, Aelita. It's a story. Giving yourself up for love is dumb," Odd comments.
"Oh really, Odd?" Sissi asks. I can't tell if she's mad at him or offended.
"You know what I mean, Sissi. It's just a story," Odd says, trying to save himself.
Odd puts his hand up. "Listen, if you ask me, nobody would die for love. Would you be ready to die for Yumi, Ulrich?"
"Better believe it," Ulrich replies, slightly blushing slightly.
"See Odd, he would," I say.
"Of course he would," Odd says. Yumi and William walk over to us.
"Hey, what are you guys talking about?" Yumi asks.
"Anything good?" William asks.
"Good… well, if you define good as tragedies, true love," Odd jokes. "And Ulrich was just saying-"
"That it's totally idiotic," Ulrich lies. Sissi sighs, frustrated with the boys. She gets her cell phone out and looks at it.
"I'll be right back," Sissi says. She takes off and I raise my eyebrow. Aelita crosses her arms.
That was weird… where is Sissi going? I think.
"Hey Aelita, I think I figured out a way of improving source logarithms and I could use your help," Jeremy says.
"That sounds great, but first let's have some lunch," Aelita suggests. She takes off laughing, Jeremy right behind her. I smile at that.
"Do you think Jeremy and Aelita would be ready to die for each other?" Ulrich asks.
"Good question," Mary says. "But the answer is rather obvious."
"Yeah," I agree. "They definitely would."
"Hey, you guys!" Sissi exclaims, we look over at her. William notices Sissi's friend. She has long blonde hair, a black t-shirt, and wears blue jeans. We walk over to them.
"So these are your friends?" the girl asks.
"Yes, Brynja," Sissi replies. "Guys, this is Brynja, she's my overseas penpal," she explains.
"Nice to meet you," William says. Brynja smiles at him.
"You must be William," she says.
"I am," he says. She looks over to us.
"Which one of you is her boyfriend, Odd?" she asks.
"I am," Odd replies.
"You're good to her, yes?" Brynja asks.
"Of course I am," Odd replies.
"And you must be Lila," Brynja says.
"I am," I nod. "Nice to meet you." Brynja looks over to Mary.
"And you're Mia?" she asks.
"Yes, that's right, nice to meet you Brynja," Mary replies.
"Sissi's mentioned you're all such good friends. I'll be staying here for a short time, if one of you would like to show me around. How about you, Ulrich?" she asks him, turning to him.
"I'm not sure that's a good idea," Ulrich replies. Yumi smiles at that.
"I can show you around," William offers.
"I'd like that," Brynja agrees.
"Anyways, I'll have to take her to my room. Let's go, Brynja," Sissi says. She picks up a suitcase, then she and Brynja head for the dorm.
Afterwards
Inside the cafeteria
We're sitting at the table. Sissi had gotten her lunch earlier since she figured Brynja would be bombarded by her classmates, which she was.
"Are you saying then, that with your program you've modified gamma waves?" Aelita asks. Jeremy eats a vegetable before answering.
"Yeah, that's right, which means we could have a much faster virtualization and a more-" he starts to say, but then notices something.
"Wow," Jeremy says.
"What?" I ask.
Ulrich and Odd turn around to see Brynja with William.
"Okay, give her some room, you guys," he requests.
"Dunbar-" Matthias starts to say, but William looks at him.
"She needs some space, it's courtesy, you know?" he asks, glaring at Matthias.
Matthias rubs his neck nervously and the other students back off a bit, giving Brynja room. William grabs his tray with his food, and the two of them go to sit at another table. William is polite enough to pull out Brynja's chair for her, and she sits.
Boys… I swear… I trail off.
Yumi looks at William, who sits down next to her.
"I wonder what he sees in that string bean?" Yumi asks. Some of the girls go up to Brynja.
"The girls, too. They're all chasing her for her beauty secrets," Aelita says.
"Yeah, seems like it…" I trail off.
"She was supposed to be hanging out with me this weekend…" Sissi trails off, mumbling. I can't help but feel bad for her.
Afterwards
Outside the cafeteria
Odd is the first one to open the door. He starts walking down the steps.
"Ah, this weekend is R and R for me, yes sir," Odd sighs, in a relaxed tone. Yumi walks down the steps next. Ulrich is behind her, with Jeremy, myself, Mary, and Aelita behind him. Sissi and William went ahead earlier to talk to Brynja.
"You aren't going on any dates with Sissi this weekend, Odd?" Mary asks.
"No, she wants to spend time with Brynja," Odd replies.
"Is she going to the pool with Miss Iceland? It seems like everybody is," Yumi comments. We continue walking and Odd puts his hands behind his head.
"She probably is, but I've got better things to do, like hours and hours of sleep." He accidentally bumps into Brynja.
"Oh, sorry," Odd says, turning around to face the three of them.
"Odd, can't you watch we're you're going?" William chastises.
"Odd, dear, we were just discussing the plans for this weekend. Why not join us for swimming tomorrow?" Sissi asks.
"We were just talking about that," I say.
"And?" William asks.
"And I'd rather sleep in, honestly. That's fine with you, right Sissi?" he asks.
"It is," Sissi replies. "I know how you are, Odd."
Odd smiles at that.
Afterwards
Rec Room
Mary is still posing as Mia, even though it's just us in the Rec Room. Anyone could enter at any moment. The boys are playing foosball, I'm sitting on the couch next to Mary. Yumi and Aelita have their backs against the wall. Sissi is spending some time with Brynja.
"I swear, I think I'm really lucky to have Sissi," Odd says, continuing to play against Ulrich. Jeremy is watching them from one end.
"I'd honestly never thought you would have a long time girlfriend, Odd," Yumi mentions.
"Yeah, it really seems like you two are at a point where you're both honest with each other," Aelita says.
"Think so?" Odd asks, he hits the ball over to Ulrich's side. Ulrich grunts as he goes to block, but misses it, and the ball goes in the goalie spot. Ulrich sighs, and Odd wins the game. He puts the score pieces back to the way to the way they were before they started.
"By the way… does it feel like William is obsessing over Brynja?" I ask.
"I noticed that too," Mary says.
"Brynja comes on strong with everybody, maybe he feels like he needs to appear like he's on the same level?" Ulrich asks. "That or his brain is fried a little."
"What, like a power couple?" Jeremy asks. "I guess they seem like the type, don't they? Though the statistical probability of a girl as pretty and charming as Brynja, falling in love with a guy like William..."
"You guys realize you're talking about your friend, right? Ulrich, you should be happy he found someone, and Jeremy, jealous? I don't believe it. Talk about fried brains, Jeremy. You take the cake," Aelita chastises.
"Yeah, I only brought this up because I'm concerned about how bad his obsession is," I say, regretting my decision to bring it up.
"I know Lila, and Aelita I'm not jealous," Jeremy says.
"It seems like you are," Aelita comments.
"Yeah, and look at you, Ulrich. Ever since that blonde ice cube showed up you've turned into a doormat," Yumi tells him.
"Me? I have not. Anyways, I don't know why you should care. We're just good friends, that's all," Ulrich reminds her. Odd looks at them.
"Look, the girls are right. You've both been acting jealous, especially since Lila gave all of us certain knowledge of our you know what," Odd says.
Jeremy looks at Aelita and Ulrich looks at Yumi.
"Aelita I um…" Jeremy trails off.
"Sorry," Ulrich rubs the back of his head nervously.
"We forgive you," Aelita says. "Right, Yumi?"
Yumi nods. "Yeah. I think Brynja is just a little too much, and we should probably try to talk to William when we can."
"That might be a good idea," Mary agrees.
Later
At night
William's room
We're waiting for William. Aelita, Mary, Jeremy, and I are sitting on William's bed.
Odd and Sissi are laying against the bed, on William's carpet, while Ulrich is sitting on a chair.
Odd didn't want to bring Kiwi to William's room, since it would have been Kiwi's first time in here. Yumi is sitting on a chair as well. William opens the door, he looks at us confused.
"What's going on? Why are you guys in my room?" William asks.
"We'll tell you," I reply.
"But first, William, we have to talk. Seriously," Yumi replies.
"It's true, ever since you've started going out with Brynja there's been a lot of friction in our group and-" Ulrich starts to say, but Jeremy interrupts him.
"And that's not very good for our mission," Jeremy adds. "Your girlfriend is coming between us and-"
"We think the best thing to do is to break up with Julia now, Romeo," Aelita references.
"I'm inclined to agree," Mary nods, still in Mia's form.
"What about you two, what are your thoughts?" William asks, looking at Odd and Sissi.
"Well… it was my fault for bringing Brynja in the first place," Sissi admits.
"As for me, I did point out Jeremy and Ulrich were being jealous when they didn't need to be," Odd tells him.
"So you're agreeing with them? I don't believe you guys. Brynja happens to be really cool. And yes, I know I have history obsessing over people I like-"
"Which I've been on the wrong end of," Yumi reminds him.
"I know, but let's not forget one thing: Mia sacrificed herself for me. I'm always going to feel guilty over that. Now… now I'm just simply living life the best way possible. For me, at this very moment, that's Brynja. So if you don't mind, I have to go on a date now with your problem," William chastises. He opens the door.
"William, wait-" I start to say, but he leaves, and closes the door behind him. We look at each other and sigh. Odd and Sissi get up from the floor.
"That could have gone better," she says. "It's getting late. I should probably go back to my room."
"Aelita and I are going to the lab to run the program I mentioned earlier. Want to come with us, Lila?" Jeremy asks. Jeremy and Aelita get off the bed too.
"No thanks, I've got a call to make," I reply.
"Really?" Mary asks.
"Yeah," I reply, getting off of William's bed.
"Who are you calling so late?" Odd asks.
"An old friend," I reply.
"Alright, while you do that I need to get going before my parents notice I'm gone," Yumi says.
"We should all probably leave now before Jim sees we're here," Aelita says.
We nod in agreement.
Afterwards
Inside Lila and Aelita's room
Having taken my shower, I'm now in my pajamas. I look at my phone and dial Kayori's new number. Since we're in opposite time zones, she should be awake already. I make the call, and put the phone to my ear. I let it ring, and after just one ring, someone picks up.
"Lila, you got my care package!" Kayori exclaims, happily.
"I did! I'm surprised you remembered my number," I say.
"Of course I would! Look, I'm really sorry about the airplane line losing my luggage."
"It's okay, I understand, really. I knew you had a good reason for not talking to me. How has your new school been?"
"Well, we're on summer break now. If there's one thing I really like, I'm just glad I get to be home with my parents. Going to Kadic was really tough, not because of being a new student, but just the amount of time being at school." There's a short pause.
"So um… what's going on with Mia? Did you guys free her yet?"
I sigh.
"No, we haven't. Mary's been posing as her for the last four months now."
"At least she can do that, you know?"
"I know. Also…. I got a care package from Cameron too."
"Your ex?"
"Yeah," I reply.
"What did you get? If you don't mind me asking?"
"Well…" she doesn't know about the whole Future Aelita and me dying business. I never got around to telling her.
"You might want to sit down for this," I say.
"Okay… I'm sitting down," Kayori says, unsure.
Shortly after finishing my story, Kayori sighs in a kind of upset way.
"That's just… wow."
"Yeah, it's a lot to process. I know."
"And you guys think Future Aelita is really alive?"
"We do," I reply. "Xana seemed pretty convinced."
"He must be. And with you gone in that dark timeline… that means we never met."
I sigh too.
"Yeah, it does. And since Cameron gave me the time machine necklace back, I can't help but wonder if…"
"If you should return to that timeline?" she asks, catching on.
"Yeah," I reply.
"I wouldn't blame you if you did," Kayori says.
"Really? I'm not sure how the others would feel, especially Aelita," I say.
Speaking of her, the door opens and I see Aelita walk in the room. She closes the door behind her.
"She just entered the room, actually. I should probably get going," I say.
"Okay. Tell her, and the others I said hi."
"Kayori says hi," I relay. Aelita smiles at me.
"Tell her I said hi too."
I'm about to tell Kayori, but Kayori speaks up.
"I heard. Anyways, I'm glad we got to talk, Lila. I really am. Let's talk more, okay?
"For sure. Good night," I say.
"Night Lila."
I end the call, and put my phone in my pajama's pocket.
"I'll head over to the bathroom and change quickly, so we don't get in trouble with Jim," Aelita says.
"Right," I nod.
The Next Day
Inside the lab
Aelita, Jeremy, and I are in the freight elevator. Something happened with Jeremy's superscan program. Aelita told me about it on the way there. The freight elevator's doors open and we walk in.
"Are you sure you heard the alarm?" Aelita asks. Jeremy runs over to his chair, and once he reaches it, he sits.
"I'm sure, I'm sure. I don't think my computer has gone paranoid," Jeremy says. Aelita and I walk over to him.
Jeremy fixes his glasses to the bridge of his nose. He starts typing on the keyboard, and the computer boots up.
"That's why we've got to hurry and find out what's going on. Lila, did you get anything on your superscan program last night?" he asks.
"No, I didn't," I reply.
"All the more reason to be worried," Jeremy says. He continues typing, and lets the superscan program run. "Still no activated tower, now let me check the log. Bingo! There's a system alert, alright. But not from this morning. It was at 12:36 last ."
The superscan starts going through a list of towers then blinks, confirming an activated tower. Jeremy stops typing.
"Huh?" Jeremy asks, then starts typing again.
"This is getting weirder every second." The alarm starts going off.
"Look, the supercomputer says there's an activated tower in the desert sector. But in terms of digital activity...nothing's going on." The superscan now shows it's all clear.
This really is weird…. I trail off.
Aelita puts her finger under her chin, pondering the situation.
"I wonder what the cause of all of this is," I say.
"Do you think it's a virus?" Aelita asks. Jeremy looks at us.
"Could have been a problem with the program we launched last night?" Jeremy surmises. He looks back at the computer and starts typing.
"But I don't get it, I checked everything out. Here are my calculations… oh no." Jeremy stops typing, some sort of data is shown on the screen, with something that sort of looks like a dna signature on the side. But it doesn't look good.
"What's wrong?" Aelita asks.
"The program has been modified. Some sort of parasitic foreign was entered into the supercomputer. Someone came here last night for sure."
"But who?" I ask.
"We're about to find out," he replies. Jeremy brings up the security camera footage of the lab. We see William guiding a blind folded Bryjna into the lab.
"Uh oh, looks like William made a big fat mistake," Aelita says, putting her finger on her cheek.
Jeremy starts typing, and fast forwards the security video.
"No, I think his mistake is more like skinny and blonde," he says. Jeremy stops the security video.
Bryjna goes to sit on Jeremy's chair, and hits one of the keys on the keyboard. William goes to stop her, by putting his hands in the air.
"Bryjna, you aren't allowed to touch that," he tells her.
"Only you're too late, William," Jeremy says. We see William rubbing his head nervously.
"No need to look any further, you two. William gave away our secret," she says, crossing her arms.
"It was Brynja. By touching the keyboard she modified my program," he starts to say, and pulls away from the keyboard. "And that's what messed up the supercomputer."
"Any chance of fixing it?" I ask.
Jeremy taps his finger on the arm of his chair.
"Yeah, but the problem is it might take a little while. And of course, during that time Xana could-" he starts to say, but then the superscan program starts going through a list of towers. It blinks, confirming the tower's location. The alarm goes off.
This can't be good, I think.
"An activated tower!" Jeremy exclaims, leaning towards the computer. "Though it could be another false alarm…" he trails off, leaning back again.
Aelita leans over to Jeremy and looks at him directly.
"Yes, but we can't be sure. Send Lila and I to Lyoko," Aelita tells him.
"Nuh uh, too risky," Jeremy says, shaking his head.
"But not knowing what Xana could be up to is even riskier. You need someone there, like before we had the superscan," Aelita says.
"She's right, you know," I say. Jeremy looks at us.
"Yeah… you two are probably right," he agrees. Aelita and I start heading over to the ladder shoot.
"Get in," he says, and goes for his headset earpiece. We start climbing down the ladder.
Inside the scanner room
The scanner room is dark, with only two scanners serving as a light source. Aelita touches the floor first, then I do too.
"The activated tower should be in the northwest part of the forest sector."
Aelita and I run over to the two opened scanners. We each take our respective scanner, then get in.
"Gotcha," Aelita says, from within her scanner.
"We're ready when you are, Jeremy," I say.
The scanners doors close and I close my eyes.
"Transfer: Aelita, Transfer: Lila."
Lyoko's Ice Sector
My vision returns, and I open my eyes to see that we're falling in the ice sector, not the forest sector.
This can't be good! I think.
Aelita and I land on the ice in a crouched position, then get up.
"Jeremy?" Aelita asks, looking up. "You made a mistake. You sent Lila and I to the Ice Sector."
"No, I didn't make a mistake. I virtualized the two of you in the forest sector."
"But, Jeremy, we're both in the Ice Sector," I say. Jeremy groans.
"Oh… we really have a huge problem."
"Follow me," Aelita says.
"Right," I say. I follow Aelita to a small open area. She sits down, crossed legged and puts her hands out. I think she's trying to find the tower the old fashion way.
"Lila, Aelita. Where are you two?"
Aelita looks up.
"I don't feel any pulsations, I don't think there's a problem." She gets up.
"Okay then. I'm going to bring you two back in right now. I don't like you being all alone on Lyoko."
"That's fine, Jeremy," I nod.
"Materialization: Aelita. Materialization: Lila."
Our bodies devirtualize in a cloud of pixels.
Lyoko's Mountain Sector
Aelita and I, for some reason, reappear in the mountain sector. We fall on a platform and get up.
"Oh no, Jeremy. Another major problem," Aelita says, looking around.
"Believe it or not, Aelita and I are in the mountain sector now," I say.
We see a group of monsters heading for us. Two Bloks and two Kankrelats. The Bloks start charging up their lasers.
"And we're not alone, either," Aelita adds as we start running from the Bloks.
"Okay you two. I'll warn the others."
Aelita and I hide behind a huge boulder.
"Hang in there. Ulrich, Yumi, Odd, and Sissi are on their way. I'll be fixing the supercomputer in just a couple of minutes."
I can't tell which monster is firing, it could be all of them, but the lasers hit the boulder.
I'd fight them off if I knew it was safe! But with everything so buggy… I trail off.
"In a couple of minutes? Survival out here is a matter of a few microseconds," Aelita sighs.
"Either way, let's hide somewhere else," I suggest.
Aelita nods. Together we make a run for it. All of the monsters have indeed been firing at us. Aelita holds the palm of her hand out and summons her energy shield.
She launches it to cause a distraction, and it hits the ground between the Bloks. The Bloks and Kankrelats stop firing their lasers, successfully distracted. Aelita and I manage to get behind another boulder. I pull my bow off its hook and grab an arrow from its quiver.
From one side, Aelita summons her energy shield in the palm of her hand. From the other side, I put my arrow on the bow and pull the drawstring.
"Energy field!" she exclaims, launching her energy field.
I let my arrow fly and it flies at a Kankrelat. The energy field hits the Blok, and shocks it, causing it to spin. The Kankerlat next to Blok moves away, dodging my arrow.
The Blok explodes into pieces. Aelita waves her hand over her star, and her angel wings appear. I put my weapon back on its hook. Aelita grabs me from underneath my shoulders, and together we take off.
We try to make our getaway, but we're hit by two energy waves. Aelita and I are thrown back down to the ground. We tumble a bit and then come to a halt.
The Blok and two Kankrelats start firing at us while we're pinned down. We slowly get up.
"Cease fire!" Mia orders.
The monsters stop firing.
"Aelita, Lila. At last. Just the three of us," Mia says, running for us with her kunai gripped in her hands.
"Aelita, Lila. Watch out!" Jeremy exclaims.
I start channeling my ice powers, and my hands get cold. Aelita gets up, summons her energy field, and launches it
My snowflake necklace glows, and I unleash a small ice blast out of one hand. Mia pulls back a bit, and our attacks miss. This gives us the chance to get up. We start running to a path nearby. We keep running, and get on the path, leaving Mia behind.
Aelita reaches the end of the path and jumps down to a platform below. I jump down and land next to her. Aelita runs ahead of me, and I try to keep up with her. I hear Mia jumping down, along with a monster. From the sound of its clanking, it seems like a Kankrelat.
Aelita and I keep running until we find ourselves a spot surrounded with small bounders. We hide behind one of them. We see a Blok that must have made its way down here too, and start running to another boulder nearby.
However, we stop when we see Mia's whip hanging down from one of the boulders. Aelita gasps. We look up.
Aelita summons her energy field to the palm of her hand. Even if I were to throw my hunter's knife at Mia, it probably wouldn't help me very much. Aelita launches her energy field at Mia, and it hits the spikes on her arm.
Aelita waves her hand over the star and her angel wings appear. She flies into the air and kicks Mia off the boulder. She flies back down and picks me up. She flies a bit higher than I would like, but we get away from Mia.
"Listen, you two, I'm almost through fixing the supercomputer. Are you okay?"
Aelita flies lower now and, suffice to say, this is cutting it pretty close. My feet are almost touching the ground as we fly close.
"No, we aren't okay at all," Aelita replies.
"Yeah, I really wish we had the vehicles!" I exclaim. Aelita and I are hit by yet another laser. We tumble onto the platform again, parts of our bodies shocking from either the fall or laser, or both. The shocking stops, and we look across to see a Kankrelat is responsible for the damage.
I really hate this program bug! I think.
Mia super smokes herself over to us and the Kankrelat. She's wielding her kunai again. She slides across the ground and uses her smoke ability to switch to her whip. She cracks her whip at me, and it paralyzes me with white energy.
The whip wraps around me, while Aelita tries to run at her, but Mia sends black smoke at Aelita. The black smoke hits Aelita and Mia levitates her off the ground. She walks a bit closer, and I struggle to break free from the paralyzing energy. Mia lifts me into the air, then throws Aelita into a boulder. She releases me from her hold, only to throw me against the same boulder.
Aelita and I yelp in pain. Mia swings her whip and gets me again with it. As it wraps itself around me, it paralyzes me with black energy and Mia throws more black smoke at Aelita. The black smoke brings Aelita closer to Mia, and Mia leaves me paralyzed. Only able to watch helplessly as Aelita inched closer and closer to Mia.
"Xana's finally going to have your company for good," Mia says.
"No…" I trail off.
"I wish you could join us Lila. But you're too much of a-" Mia starts to say, but suddenly a boomerang flies at the whip and cuts it in half. The broken pieces fall to the ground, and I get up, free. Sissi's boomerang returns to her.
Odd runs over and helps me up. Yumi throws her Tessen Fans at Mia and they hit her. Aelita is freed. Mia's knocked back, making her tumble across the ground. Once she recovers, she disappears into the ground using her super smoke.
"Hey Mia, when are you going to learn that we never abandon our friends?" Ulrich asks, his twin katana blades ready.
Mia super smokes back up and gets her feet on the ground. She grips her kunai, charges them, and sends out two waves of energy. Yumi cartwheels out of the way, while Sissi runs to the side. Odd brings me over to the side, and we're able to avoid the shots.
"Super sprint!" Ulrich exclaims. He super sprints around Mia's shot, then slashes at her with his blades.
Mia is able to dodge them, but just barely. Odd and I look at Yumi and Sissi, who're dealing with the Kankrelat.
"Be careful, you two!" Odd exclaims.
"We've got it!" Sissi reassures.
Yumi opens her Tessen Fans again, using them to block a laser. Sissi uses this to her advantage and takes her boomerang out of her hoister. She throws the boomerang at the Kankrelat and destroys it. Sissi's weapon returns to her, and Yumi closes her fans. The two of them start running away from the Blok, and two Kankrelats start charging their lasers.
"Are you feeling up for it?" Odd asks.
I nod.
"Yeah, thanks."
Odd and I run over to them to help them.
"Hey Yumi, Ulrich, Sissi, Odd, Lila. Go real easy, okay? If either one of you gets devirtualized before I fix the program, I'm not sure I can bring you back to Earth again."
Odd, and I reach where Yumi and Sissi are. I take my bow off its hook, and pull an arrow out of my quiver. I put the arrow on my bow, and Odd cocks his paw, he aims it at the Blok.
Yumi throws her Tessen Fan, Odd fires off his Laser Arrow, and I let my arrow fly. Sissi throws her boomerang again. Yumi's Tessen Fan flies at the Kankrelat, and hits the target eye. The Kankrelat explodes. Yumi's Tessen Fan returns to her, and she catches it, then closes it. My arrow and Odd's laser arrow hits the side of the Blok, this causes the Blok to stop charging its laser. Its head spins, but then returns to normal. Sissi's boomerang flies right above the Kankrelat and returns.
"And you're telling us this now?" Yumi asks.
"Sooner would have been better, Einstein!" Odd exclaims. The Blok and Kankrelat send us a barrage of lasers. Another Kankrelat is materialized.
Yumi takes out her other Tessen Fan, using both of them now to twirl and block some lasers. I put my bow back on its hook and take my hunter's knife out of its holster. I start blocking the lasers one by one as they make their way towards Odd and I.
Sissi uses her boomerang to shield herself, but then the three monsters start moving in closer. Yumi puts her Tessen Fans away and starts cartwheeling. Odd, Sissi, and I decide to run for it too.
I can't believe three monsters are giving all of us so much trouble! I think.
We stop running and Yumi takes her Tessen Fans out. She throws them at the three monsters, who jump right over them!
"Oh come on!" Sissi exclaims, annoyed.
Yumi cartwheels out of the way, and while she's balanced on her hands the Blok fires its ice laser at Yumi and freezes her hands to the ground. One of the Kankrelats starts firing its laser.
"Yumi! Laser Arrow!" Odd exclaims, c firing at Laser Arrow at the Kankrelat that's charging its laser. The Laser Arrow flies at the Kankrelat, but the Kankrelat jumps out of the way. It then fires off its laser at Yumi, but Aelita finally arrives. She flies over to Yumi, and breaks the ice trapping her hands with energy fields. Yumi dodges the laser, just in time. Aelita touches down on the ground, and her angel wings disappear. Odd, Sissi, and I run over to them.
Aelita summons her energy field and aims it at the Kankrelat on the other side of the Blok. She launches it at the Kankrelat. It's a hit, and the Kankrelat explodes. This causes the Blok's head to spin.
The Blok fires a sharp laser at us, but Odd uses his shield ability to block it.
"Shield!" Odd exclaims.
This gives Aelita the chance to try and summon an energy field. She tries to launch it, but the remaining Kankrelat fires off a laser again. I use my hunter's knife and block the laser.
"I've got them!" Sissi exclaims. She throws her boomerang, which flies at the Kankrelat and Blok. They jump right over it. Again.
"Now they're really getting on my nerves!" I growl. Thankfully, Yumi throws one of her Tessen Fans, and it flies at the Blok. The Blok doesn't have enough time to react, and the Tessen Fan slices right through it.
The Blok explodes. Sissi's boomerang returns to her, and so does Yumi's Tessen Fan. We see Ulrich is still battling Mia, who backs him up against a boulder. She plunges her kunai into Ulrich and he devirtualizes.
"Ulrich, no!" Yumi exclaims. We're all surprised too, and because we're not focused the Kankrelat devirtualizes Yumi.
"Oh no!" Odd exclaims. He starts running on both of his legs and paws towards Mia.
"Odd, wait! Don't rush in like that!" I exclaim.
Odd ignores my warning and continues running at Mia. She turns around and runs at him. She takes her kunai, charges it, and unleashes her energy waves. They fly at Odd, and hit him, devirtualizing him in a cloud of pixels instantly.
"Odd!" Sissi exclaims.
The Kankrelat is about to make another move on us, but Aelita summons her energy field and fires it off at the Kankrelat. The Kankrelat explodes.
Sissi charges her emeralds, and focuses her wind ability to her hands. She launches it at Mia. The wind blast hits, this throws Mia off the ground and into the air. She falls to the ground, losing her kunai.
Nice thinking, Sissi! I just hope Jeremy got the program fixed in time! I think.
Mia shakes her head and gets up. She disappears into the ground using her super smoke ability. We try to track her, but she grabs her kunai and disappears again. She reappears behind us.
"Oh no!" I exclaim. I swing my hunter's knife at her, only I'm too late. Mia is able to plunge her kunai into me and Sissi. We devirtualize in a cloud of pixels.
"Lila, Sissi!" Aelita exclaims, then disappears from my sight as I'm virtualized completely.
Inside the scanner room
The scanner's doors open. Odd, Yumi, and Ulrich must be in the lab already since they aren't here.
"Let's go up to the lab," Sissi suggest.
"Right," I nod. Sissi and I run over to the ladder shoot. I climb up first, and Sissi follows behind me.
Inside the lab
Reaching the lab, we run over to Jeremy to see that the others are watching the monitor.
"He did it," Odd sighs in relief. It seems we got here too late, since William's beat Mia.
Inside the scanner room
Shortly after, we all go back to the scanner room. The scanner's doors open, revealing Aelita. The other one reveals William. We look at William, who steps out of the scanner. Aelita gets out of hers.
"Look… I have a feeling I know what you're going to tell me. I'm a jerk, okay? I betrayed you, again… and I probably should just be kicked out of the group. I don't blame you, either. That was my second chance… and I blew it. I really shouldn't have shown the supercomputer to Brynja, it's truly unforgivable," William says.
Jeremy steps forward, his hands in his pockets.
"Well, no. You simply forgot that inside that head of yours, there happens to be a brain," he says.
"You're not the only one who was lame, we were just too jealous of you," Ulrich admits.
"Yeah, we all went a bit too far because of Brynja," Yumi says.
Most of us, at least. I wasn't really all that jealous, honestly. More annoyed, really, I think.
"Well, I forgive you, William. I mean, you saved me from Mia," Aelita says, her arms crossed.
"And that's all that really matters," I add.
"Besides, it's really my fault for bringing Brynja here in the first place," Sissi says.
William rubs his arm.
"So… we're all still friends?" he asks.
"We are," Odd replies. William smiles.
"By the way, I do have one idea that might undo the mess I made. A little return to the past, hm?" he asks.
"Oh, that won't be necessary. I don't think," Jeremy says.
"But why?" William asks.
Afterwards
Under the arches
Most of the boys are all saying goodbye to Brynja. As it turns out Sissi is letting her leave by herself today. The boys are following her close behind, of course. Mary is with us now, still posing as Mia.
"Of all things, I can't believe it," William says. "She didn't even say goodbye."
Odd and Sissi are holding their hands.
"It's for the best, William," Sissi says.
"Besides, when you really know you're meant to be with someone… they'll always be there with you," Odd tells him.
"Yeah, I guess," William shrugs.
"Now do you see why I'm not worried about the supercomputer, William?" Jeremy asks.
"Yeah, I do," William replies.
"Don't worry, William. I'm sure you'll find someone," Mary says.
"And Sissi, I thought Brynja was supposed to stay here for four days?" I ask her.
"Well, let's just say I was able to convince my father to let her stay at my cousin's place," Sissi replies. "She wanted to see the countryside, so why not?"
"Makes sense," I say.
"I just really appreciate all of you giving me one more chance," William says. "You won't be disappointed."
I'm sure we won't be William, I think.
