New Adventures Conclusion

In the woods

POV Aelita's

In a yellow flash of light, Lila, Mary and my counterpart disappear before our eyes. I still can't believe Mary gave us the deed to the house.

"Well... I guess that's it," I say, with much exasperation.

"You okay, Aelita?" Jeremy asks.

"Not really," I reply.

"So… what do we do now?" William asks.

"Well... Aelita and her father did just get a new house. Kind of new, at least. Right?" Odd asks.

"Yeah, so…?" Cameron asks.

"So let's throw a house party!" Odd suggests.

"A house party?" I ask, putting my finger on my chin. "Sure, why not?"

"Ulrich and I can go get some snacks in town after classes are done. Aelita, you still have the debit card?" Yumi asks.

"I do," I reply. I take it out of my pocket. I still can't believe Lila hid this type of money from us... but I don't blame her. Not for that, at least.

"And I'll take care of the music," Odd adds.

"No way, Aelita and I will take care of that," William says.

"Actually, William," I object. "I'm going to go to the house and see my father."

"Would you like any one of us to come with you, Aelita?" Sissi asks.

"No thanks," I reply.

"Are you sure?" Ulrich asks.

"I'm sure," I reply. "Just make up an excuse for the teachers."

Yumi walks over to me and puts her hand on my shoulder.

"It'll be okay, Aelita," she says.

"I know," I say, weakly. I hand Yumi the debit card.

"Um, Aelita," Cameron says, speaking up. "Since I don't have classes, would you mind if I at least walked you halfway there?"

The others looked at him curiously and I raise my eyebrow, but nod anyways.

Afterwards

Cameron and I started making our way to the red trails path, but it's been silent. He obviously wants to talk about something but we're stuck in awkward silence. So I speak up.

"You know, my old house the Hermitage is close by. My father and I might need some help eventually moving things from there to our new house," I say.

"Maybe I'll be able to help one day," Cameron says. He stops walking and I follow suit. He breathes in and then out.

"Did you… ever get my letter I sent?" he asks. I nod.

"I did, but I didn't bother opening it. Sorry." He turns to me.

"Don't be sorry. In fact, I'm the one who's sorry."

"But Cameron, you were the one who was inno-" I start to say but he interrupts.

"Innocent? I know. But even though Stones is alive now… that memory is always going to haunt me. The night of your first mix, I got possessed. After the tower was deactivated, I should have spoken up, before my memories were erased. But that wasn't the worst of it."

"What was?" I ask.

"Xana knew my feelings for Lila," He explains. "You know what Xana was capable of. Divide and Conquer. He did that, alright… he ruined any chance Lila and I might have had at a relationship. Not only that, but he constantly threatened my adopted parents, keeping most of the important memories as a reminder that if I failed, he would turn those memories against me."

I look at him, surprised.

"I didn't know…"

He shakes his head.

"Not your fault. I just really wanted you to know how so-" he starts to say but I cut him off with a hug. I should have realized that Xana did some serious mental damage to him.

"It's okay Cameron, I forgive you." I say, then step back.

"Thanks, Aelita. Though you probably should save the hugs for Jeremy, since the two of you will have plenty of time to get closer," he teases.

I blush slightly. It's a good thing he doesn't know about the kiss. And now I feel my cheeks getting redder.

"Oh… something happened already, didn't it?" He teases.

"Yes," I let out weakly. "But I, uh, I'd rather not talk about it."

"That's okay," Cameron says and my blush starts to fade.

"Anyways you go on home and I'll head into town to order some pizzas for tonight. I'll see you later."

"Thanks, see you later, Cameron," I say as we part ways.

Afterwards

It made me feel a bit better talking to him but then I started to think about Lila.

I'm walking slowly with my head down. I know a party isn't really that great of an idea, but honestly, I think it's better than feeling alone. I'm going to miss Lila a lot. And since we patched things up with Cameron, him being here for the next few days wouldn't be too awkward.

Flashback

"Aelita, please wake up. You're having another nightmare."

I opened my eyes and fearfully looked around for a moment before catching my breath.

"I'm sorry- I-I-"

"Don't apologize," Lila interrupts with a shake of her head. "I had my fair share of nightmares when I first arrived in this timeline. Mary was always there for me, and I'll be here for you. Tell me about it."

I sit up against my pillow, taking some deep breaths to calm myself down before looking at Lila.

"It's the same dream. I'm in a forest somewhere, I'm an elf. A wolf chases me through the trees and I hide in a hollow trunk before the wolf finds me and is about to bite. Except... except this time, before the wolf attacked me... I found something. Some sort of treasure chest, with energy in it."

"That's... peculiar, I wonder if the treasure chest is a symbol for something? When did these dreams of yours start?" Lila asked.

I thought back,

"I... I think it started when I first found the Hermitage."

"Then that's where we need to go," Lila decides. "Let's talk to the others about it first thing tomorrow."

"Okay," I said.

End flashback

You were always there to try and reassure me, Lila. And now… I trail off.

"Lila... I miss you already..."

Mrs. Hertz's classroom

POV Jeremy's

Odd and Sissi are sitting together near the front, while Ulrich and I are sitting together near them. Since he doesn't have to worry about Xana anymore, I think he wants to get his grades up. He's mentioned numerous times how strict his father is about that stuff.

I'm also a little concerned about Cameron being with Aelita. I think he just wanted to talk to her about some things, but still.

Mrs. Hertz continues doing roll call.

"Aelita Stones?" Mrs. Hertz asks.

"She's not feeling well, ma'am," I reply.

"I see. Absent then. Lila Smith?" Mrs. Hertz calls. I guess she didn't get the updated attendance sheet.

"Mrs. Hertz?" Sissi asks, lifting her hand up.

"Yes, Elizabeth?" Mrs. Hertz asks.

"Lila's no longer attending Kadic. She cleared things with my father just this morning," Sissi explains.

"She did?" Mrs. Hertz asks, genuinely surprised. Some students begin to murmur amongst themselves. The four of us nod.

"I see... That's too bad. May I ask why she decided to leave Kadic suddenly?" She asks.

Odd speaks up.

"It was a family matter, ma'am," he says. It's not a complete lie but it's far from the truth. But it should be just enough of the truth to be believable.

"I see, very well then," Mrs. Hertz says. She finishes up the last of the names on the attendance sheet.

Good one, Odd, I think.

Franz and Aelita's House

POV Aelita's

I knock on the door and my father answers it. He seems confused that I'm here.

"Aelita darling, shouldn't you be in school?" He asks.

"I'm, um, not feeling well," I explain. I don't want to tell him I'm cutting class, even though my friends and I have done it so many times because of Lyoko and Xana. That's a habit we're going to have to break, I guess.

My father nods, and lets me inside.

Afterwards

Inside the house

My father made me a fresh cup of tea. I usually don't drink tea, but the little packets Mary had left over for Lila are actually pretty good. I take a sip and sigh in relief. It really is good.

"Thank you, daddy," I say, putting the cup down on the table.

"You're welcome, sweetheart. One day I'll have to get a new piano for this house, I think that will cheer you up," Franz says. I guess he knows I'm upset because Lila left.

"It's noticeable, then?" I ask.

Franz adjusts his glasses. "It is."

I smile at him. I'm glad we prevented his death.

"You know, Daddy... I can't help but be grateful. It was good seeing mom again. Even if the whole thing was a simulation," I say. Franz nods.

"I made many mistakes with you, Aelita. One... Not letting you have more time with your mother. I'm glad I was able to rectify that mistake."

"I am too," I say.

"The boy you mentioned was possessed by Xana, Cameron, was it?" He asks.

"Yes. Why do you ask?" I raise an eyebrow.

"How's his memory? Any nightmares while he was possessed?"

""Yes... He just told me about what Xana did to him on our way here... it's been difficult for him, putting it mildly..." I trail off.

"I see... have him come over before he leaves," Franz says.

"My friends and I are actually going to throw a party here tonight. Is that okay, Daddy?" I ask him. Franz nods.

"Of course, you do have cause to celebrate, after all."

Later

In town

POV Ulrich's

Yumi and I almost have all of the snacks for the party tonight. She and I are carrying the bags.

"I think we've got almost everything on the list," Yumi says, looking at it.

"Yeah. Anything we're missing?' I ask.

"Odd wanted some cups for the drinks. But other than that, there's nothing left," Yumi replies.

"That's good. Say, Yumi... How do you feel about Lila leaving with Stones?" I ask as we walk down the street.

"Well," Yumi says. "It makes sense. We thought Stones was... gone for so long. That dark timeline she came from... I can't imagine losing Lila like that, not after everything we've been through."

I nod, agreeing.

"Yeah. Aelita and Lila had such a close call on the ice sector replika. It's a miracle they survived," I say. "I'm just glad we're done fighting Xana. No more missing class. At least, for the most part."

"Yeah," Yumi smiles. "We battled Xana for two and a half years. It's just hard to believe we'll actually have time for things like studying, too. "

Yeah," I chuckle. "And dating, too," I blurt out. I wince internally.

Nice one, idiot! I think to myself. I feel myself blushing.

"I mean, um..." I trail off. We did just kiss earlier today. Well the first version of it.

"About that..." She trails off.

"William is going to be looking after Mia a lot. She's not coming to the party and I can't say I blame her. Even though she and Sissi are roommates again, it seems William really wants to be there for Mia just in case she ever remembers what she did while being Xanafied."

"Okay... And...?" I ask, raising my eyebrow.

"Well," Yumi exasperates, "with no Xana to worry about... maybe we could... try?" She asks, blushing a bit.

We stop walking and turn to each other.

"You realize that Odd is probably going to invite half the school tonight, right?" I ask.

"I do," Yumi replies. "Perfect time to make our announcement."

"Well... I'm for it if you are," I say. I'm so glad this is finally happening.

Later

At Night

Franz and Aelita's house

POV Jeremy's

I've brought my laptop with me.. an old habit that I think is going to be hard for me to break. Franz is sitting on his chair. He mentioned he wanted to go to the Hermitage once the house starts to get crowded.

"You know, Franz," I say, speaking up. He looks at me.

"You had a really great book collection in the Hermitage. Someday we should bring all of them here. Aelita mentioned this house has a study, right?"

"Yes," Franz replies. "Mary used it. There's some room in there for additional books. It would be a good idea."

"I'm glad," I say. The doorbell rings.

"Einstein, can you get it? Odd and I are still setting up the decorations!" Sissi exclaims.

"On it," I say. I get up and leave my messenger bag on the couch. I go over to the front door and open it. I'm surprised to see Cameron holding more than a couple of boxes of pizza.

"Cameron? You're here already?" I ask.

"Yeah. We still got about twenty minutes until everyone arrives. I wanted to get here early enough to set the pizzas out," Cameron explains.

I roll up my sleeve, checking the time on my watch.

"Wow, didn't realize it was that close to party time. Yumi and Ulrich brought some stuff earlier, they're playing with Kiwi in the backyard. William is setting up the music in the living room."

"That's good," Cameron says. I hold the door open, then with one hand, gesture for Cameron to come in. He and Odd walk over to us.

"Awesome, more food!" Odd exclaims. He runs over and takes two boxes of pizza from Cameron. Cameron takes the remaining boxes over to the kitchen. Franz gets up.

"Mr. Jones?" He calls out.

"Hang on, Odd," Cameron says, laying them down on the stove.

"Yes sir?" Cameron asks, walking back over to us.

"I'm not sure if we've been introduced. I'm Franz Hopper, Aelita's father," he greets.

"Oh... " He trails off.

"I'd like to talk to you outside. William, if you're finished with that why don't you move the furniture out of the way? Yumi and Ulrich can help," Franz says.

"Right," William says. He stops working on the mixing board which he must have gotten somewhere, and gets up.

"Franz, I wanted to ask, where's Aelita?" I ask .

"She's upstairs in her room," Franz replies.

I start making my way towards the stairs to see if Aelita is okay. It's almost time to start.

Outside Aelita's room

I'm about to knock, when I hear soft crying coming from within. I gently grab the door knob and open the door.

"Aelita?" I ask. She's crying, her face down on her pillow. I close the door quietly and sit next to her on the bed.

"You want to talk about it?" I ask. Aelita gets up and tries to collect herself.

"It's just Lila... I really miss her, Jeremy," Aelita replies.

"If I'm being honest, Aelita... I think Lila was going to return to the dark timeline either way. With or without Stones," I say. "She said so herself, you know?"

"I know…"

"And after all, Aelita, it was her choice. She tried to keep things she knew a secret. But one by one the small changes became big changes. Now our timeline is completely different than the dark one and the original timeline. I think Lila made things better for all of us... Don't you?"

Aelita sniffles a bit.

"Yeah, I do," she says, then smiles lightly.

Outside in the backyard

POV Cameron's

"So, Mr. Hopper-" I start to say but he interrupts me.

"Franz is fine," he says. "My boy, I wanted to invite you out here to talk to you about your possession."

I wince. Some of those memories will never fade. I never bought Lila's lie, that they were just nightmares. I knew what she was trying to do. I never truly forgot... That was a lie of my own.

"Even more so... I wanted to apologize for my part in creating Xana. When Xana took control of you via those chips... That was something new. In the beginning he was meant to help counteract project Carthage...but then became too autonomous. He posed a threat to humanity."

"Carthage? Isn't that the other name of Sector-"

"Sector Five? Yes it is," Franz says. "But, Mr. Jones, I do want to say how truly sorry I am. For everything you've been through."

"I appreciate that sir," I say, smiling weakly. "Thank you, apology accepted."

The doorbell rings. It seems like it's party time.

POV Aelita's

"I guess it's time for the party," I say. I get up from the bed, and Jeremy follows.

"Jeremy... Thank you. You always know what to say," I tell him.

"Of course, Aelita," Jeremy says. I smile.

Afterwards

Downstairs

Jeremy and I are downstairs now. Mia and Emily are both already here. William mentioned she wasn't coming… I guess she changed her mind.

"There are more kids coming in a few minutes, we just happened to beat them over here," Emily says.

"No problem," I say. I still can't believe she told Delmas everything… in the first version of today.

Jeremy and I walk down the stairs. Odd isn't here so he probably went upstairs to put Kiwi in his room. Sure enough, I hear a door open upstairs. Odd runs down the stairs, then the three of us go into the living room. The furniture is out of the way, there's the school's mixing board on a table near the front of the room. I'd recognize it anywhere. There's a chair next to it, along with some headphones.

"William, what music did you get?" I ask.

William takes out a CD case. It has my picture on it, then reads: Aelita's opening act. With the SubDigitals.

"You didn't have to do that," I say, blushing, embarrassed.

"It's fine. It'll be good. After all, you'll be DJing," William says.

"Huh? Me?" I ask.

"That's a great idea, William," Mia says.

"Sure, I mean, I guess I can," I say.

Afterwards

Everyone has arrived. They've got their food and drinks. There's a lot of idle chatter. Yumi and Ulrich go over to the mixing board and Ulrich presses the stop button. The music dies down, but the crowd groans.

"Everyone, we have a special someone who is about to perform for us, so if you could please bring your plates over to the kitchen, me and Ulrich have a special announcement."

This raises a lot of eyebrows so the group of students go to the kitchen. They put their plates down, then come back to the living room.

"Ulrich, want to start?" Yumi asks. Jeremy, Odd, Sissi, William, Mia, and I raise our eyebrows.

"Um, okay," Ulrich nods. "So, most of you know that Yumi and I have been good friends for two and a half years now. There's been a lot of school work that's made our lives pretty busy."

Some students start to murmur. Milly ques Tamiya to get her camera out.

"But recently… things have been getting better for us. So, we wanted all of you to be the first to know: Ulrich and I are going to date!" Yumi exclaims. A lot of people gasp and Tamiya snaps the picture.

"About time!" Odd exclaims. This causes some laughter, and Tamiya puts the camera away.

"With that out of the way, Aelita is going to give you all a live performance of her opening act!" Ulrich exclaims.

Everyone starts clapping, cheering too. Ulrich and Yumi leave the mixing board area, then I sit on the chair behind it and put the headphones on. My record is already ready, so I start playing my techno music, and the crowd goes wild.

Lila… I wish you and Stones the best of luck in the dark timeline. Please stay safe, and be happy, I think.

Hours Earlier…

In the vortex

POV Lila's

Aelita and I are in the vortex, traveling through time. The two of us look at each other, knowing that whatever happens next: I'm bringing her home.

Author's Note: Hello everyone, even though I rewinded things at the very end of the chapter, that is how I am ending the New Adventures Timeline. While it is short, the next chapter I have for you is going to be an epic conclusion to the Dark Saga. It'll be longer too.
