One particular day, Mario was strolling around the grassy fields of Mushroom Kingdom, whistling a happy tune and enjoying the fresh open air, feeling content as he savored his satisfaction over finally getting a break from hero duty.
It had been ages since Bowser swooped in and kidnapped Peach like he always did and it had been a long time since Mushroom Kingdom had been threatened, with nothing much happening, Mario could have some peace at last.
But little did he know that today had something in store for him...
As Mario stopped to rest by a Warp Pipe, he soon heard a strange sound and looked inside the pipe, curious as to what was going on. It sounded like it was clogged and somebody was trying to flush, what was happening?
Eventually deciding he had no choice but to investigate, Mario leapt into the warp pipe and soon landed in a strange, dark tunnel. "Ooooh." The heroic Italian commented, "The tunnel of mystery, very mysterious!"
Then... chaos broke loose!
Lights activated and Mario shrieked when he saw the tunnel twist and contort, shadowy and monstrous shapes forming in the shadows of the walls, ghosts emerged while spikes and sinister torches emerged.
"Forget the tunnel of mystery!" Mario exclaimed, "We got a very scary tunnel of a doom to deal with here." He took off running, trying as best he could to evade the monsters, shadows and traps of doom that came at him.
The heroic plumber made a mad dash down the long and twisted tunnel as voices taunted him and something in the shadows mocked Mario, calling him stupid and mentally challenged, always lazy and wishing to only eat spaghetti.
Mario's predicament continued to get weirder and weirder, scarier and scarier as more traps appeared and more monsters came out to attack him. At one point, our intrepid hero became surrounded by several Boos, who began laughing at him.
Knowing full well that this was the end and he would be stuck here in the tunnel of doom for eternity, Mario braced himself... But then, he woke up and found himself sitting under a tree and realized the truth; It was all just a dream.
What a relief? Mario thought.
