Chapter 1: Food problems
Millions of years ago, the earth was a very different place. The Great Landmasses were ever moving and shifting. And they were covered with exotic plants like nothing we've ever seen before. This mysterious alien world was populated by the mightiest creatures every to walk the earth.
The dinosaurs.
These awesome giants lived together in an unforgiving often violent circle of life. Fighting for their shear of what food the earth had to offer. And sometimes, becoming a meal themselves.
But in one special place, dinosaurs of many kinds, both Leaf-eater and Sharptooth, have learned to live together in harmony.
The Great Valley. Where there was plenty of food for all. And peace remained supreme.
Right now, we join up with Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie, Spike, Chomper, and Ruby as they looked at their favorite tree with just one leaf on it.
"Well, looks like there's only one tree-star on the tree today." Said Littlefoot.
"The big question is, who get's it?" Cera asked.
"What do you mean?" Littlefoot asked "Everyone knows me and Ruby are getting the first tree-star of the day."
"It may be the first one of the day. But's it's the last one on the tree. That changes the rules. It goes to, say, the oldest."
"But that's you." Said Chomper.
"I know." Cera said with a smile.
"I think it should to the littlerist. That is me and Petrie." Said Ducky.
"Oh me like that." Said Petrie.
"But I need that Tree-star to catch some scaly-swimmers." Said Chomper. "They've been running low lately and I need something to help me get the remaining ones."
"Fare is fare!" Littlefoot shot back. "The Tree-star goes to me and Ruby. Right Spike?"
But Spike wanted it to. He then charged at the tree with full speed to knock the tree-star down. But no matter how hard he tried, it didn't move.
"Spike. Stop it." Said Ruby.
"Nice try Spike. But me and Ducky get Tree-star first." Petrie said as he flew up to grab it.
However, just as he got hold of it, Spike rammed the tree again. Making Petrie shake and get dizzy.
"Oh. All of sodden, me not feel so hungry." He said as he fell and landed on Spike's face.
Just as he did, the tree-star slipped out of his mouth as the wind blew it away.
"There it goes." Said Ruby.
The gang began to chase the tree-star. All of them still arguing over who will get it.
"Me got it." Petrie said as he was about to grab it. But Spike held him back. Only for him to brake free. "Wait. Now me," But he couldn't finish because Spike grabbed him again. "Spike. Cut it out."
Cera was running ahead of them with Ducky on her tail. Just as she climbed up onto Cera's back but was losing balince.
"Hey. That tickles." Cera laughed. Just as Ducky fell off of her.
Ruby ran past her and tried to grab the tree-star but missed. Until she bumped into something. Make that someone. Kosh was in front of them eating some grass. Until he saw the tree-star and took a bite of it. Much to the gangs disapointment.
"Morning kids. Nice day for a tree-star." He said as he walked away.
"Morning Mr. Club-tail. Glad you liked it." Said Chomper.
"You greedy old,"
"Cera." Littlefoot cut her off.
"I don't care! That tree-star was ours!"
"You mean it was mine and Ruby's!"
"Children. Children."
Turning in front of them, they saw Grandpa looking at them.
"Grandpa." Said Littlefoot.
"Now what's all the fuss about?" Grandpa asked them.
"It's not fare. Everyone knows me and Ruby were supposed to share the first tree-star of the day today. And today there was only one. Thanks to everyone else, Mr. Club-tail got it."
"Well now Littlefoot, if there was only one and not enough to go around, perhaps it's best that old Mr. Club-tail got it. After all, he doesn't quite offten get to enjoy treats from the top of the trees. I think this was a very special morning for him."
"I guess so."
"And besides, there are plenty of tree-stars to go around."
Grandpa then grabbed a tree nearby with his mouth and shook it to make tree-stars fall from it. The gang cheard as most of them started eating. Chomper on the other hand,
"There, this should help me get some food for me." He said as he grabbed four tree-stars.
"What are you doing son?" Came Bowser's voice.
"I'm gonna use these tree-stars to catch some scaly-swimmers."
"Just not too much okay. We need to take only enough until the eggs hatch." Bowser reminded him. Just as he spotted a sky-puffy coming. "Looks like we're gonna be in for some sky-water Mr. Longneck."
"Oh well, it does make things grow." Grandpa said to him.
However, a buzzing sound was heard. Getting a better look, they saw what the sky-puffy really was.
"Oh no!" Grandpa shouted.
"It can't be. Swarming Leaf-gobblers." Said Bowser.
"Swarming what?" Littlefoot asked.
Everyone watched as the Swarming Leaf-gobblers flew in and ate all the tree-stars from the trees as they passed them. One by one, a tree had lost all of its tree-stars. They even cought Topps off guard as they swarmed in front of him and ate up all of his breakfast.
And then they began to scare many of the other residents as they took the tree-stars.
"Look out!"
"Swarming Leaf-gobblers!"
"Run!"
Then they flew over to the gang. Making them all panic. Just as Spike ran and hid behind a bush. Only for Leaf-gobblers to eat that up as well. And some of them also flew on Littlefoot's face.
"AAAHHH!"
Littlefoot ran inside a log with Ducky. Cera tried to get in to, but her head got cought. Making her roll the log around with Littlefoot and Ducky still inside.
"Let me out!" She shouted. Just as she slammed the log on the ground. Making Littlefoot and Ruby bump their heads.
"Ow. Cera." Ducky said to her.
"Sorry."
Petrie tried to fly away from the Leaf-gabblers. But they were able to catch up to him. Making him fly out of control as they passed him and then crashed onto a tree.
Everyone watched as the Leaf-gobblers flew away. And there was no green left in the valley.
Ducky did find one spot of green as she came out of hiding. But as she touched it, it fell off.
"I do not like Swarming Leaf-gobblers. No no no."
"I'm afraid it's worse." Said Kosh as pointed at the watering hole nearby.
Bowser turned to see what it was. Three Belly-draggers were just now leaving.
"The Leaf-gobblers had us all distracted long enough so they can eat the last remaining of the scaly-swimmers."
"Oh no." Bowser exclaimed.
Later that night, everyone gathered up to a circle of rocks in the center of the valley for a meeting. It's called Counsel Rock. The place was for The Great Valleys most powerful members who formed the Counsel. And among the counsel was Bowser, Topps, and Littlefoot's grandparents.
"When the Bright Circle came up today, The Great Valley was a paradise to all." Said Bowser. "And now the great Night Circle looks down on a wasteland. It's taking a long time for the scaly-swimmer eggs to hatch. And I'm afraid it'll be a long time before any of us has enough food to substain us."
"Much as I hate to agree with a Sharptooth, I must admit that he's right." Said Topps. "There's nothing left for anybody to eat."
Not too far away, the Gang of Seven watched the meeting from behind another rock. Wondering what was going on.
"Everyone. Please keep your voices down." Said Grandma. "The children are sleeping."
"We are faced with a difficalt choice. But one we all agree is a last resort." Said Grandpa. "We must leave The Great Valley."
The moment he said that, everyone was shocked.
"Leave The Great Valley? Impossible." Said Kosh.
"We are protected here." Said a female Two-claw. "Beyond the mountain walls live, Dangerous Sharpteeth."
Everyone started to bicker about this. Except for the counsel.
"Get ahold of yourselves! Show some back bone!" Said Topps.
"My friends." Said Grandpa. "We lived in our beloved valley for so long that we forget. All of us survived in The Mysterious Beyond before coming here. And we can do it again if we must."
"We can't leave The Great Valley." Said Chomper. "Where will we go? Where we live?"
"Probily we might join herds of our own kinds. Join herds of our own kinds, we probily might." Said Ruby.
"I do not like this grown-up idea." Ducky said as Spike agreed with her.
"Petrie no go. They can't me me." He said as he held onto a tree.
"I don't wanna live with a bunch of Three-horns. They're too bossy." Said Cera.
"And where will I find friends like you?" Littlefoot asked.
"Then we all agree." Said Bowser. "At first light of the Bright Circle, we'll leave The Great Valley. Together."
"Together." The gang happily shouted.
"Okay. Petrie go." He said as he tried to let go of the tree. But somehow he couldn't. "But first, Petrie need help."
