Shadow and the Time Blade

One day, Shadow was running in a forest, happily shooting his newly upgraded guns at random objects that he sped by. He was so caught up in his glee that he fell down a hole. "Agh, arm, ergh, yeow!" he hollered at gravity.
He landed on his backside. Rubbing his sore tail, he clambered to his feet, looking around.
"Where the heck am I?" he wondered. Everything looked different, and even though he had fallen down, it seemed to be above ground.
"Shoot, I must have fallen through one of Eggman's prank portals," he muttered to himself, shaking his head.
Shadow began running across the field before him. Before long, he slowed to a walk, admiring the majestic view. Then, he fell on his face.
He scrambled to his feet, eyes darting to make sure nobody saw the faceplant. On the ground was an odd looking blade? He picked it up, thinking, 'What the frick is this?"
He tested its weight in his hands, and began inspecting it. Again, he looked around to see if anyone who might have dropped it was around.
Only the wind rushed through his ears, and suddenly the blade felt warmer in his hands.
Bzzt.
He picked it up, thinking, 'WhAt ThE fRiCk Is ThIs?" He somehow managed to pocket it, but…
Bzzt.
He picked it up, thinking, "wHat ThE fLiPpInG hEcK iS tHiS tHing?
Bzzt.
Shadow was running in the forest, gleefully shooting random objects as they flew by as blurs. Suddenly, he stopped. He was having the strangest moment of de ja vu.
He thought about running through a forest, just as he had been, and then falling down a hole? He shrugged it off, assuming it was just a dream from a while ago, or something.
Suddenly his ultimate stomach grumbled. He sighed, saying, "Stupid ultimate bottomless appetite." He began running in the opposite direction, toward home.
