It was Christmas Morning in Saw tooth National Park, the sun's rays were peaking out behind the mountains, casting a natural glow, and the birds were cheeping peacefully from there nests in the trees.
Inside of one of the caves in the peaks, a young adult wolf opened up her green eyes and looked around, this was Kate, an alpha wolf of the western pack. She blinked slightly, trying to adjust to the morning light that was coming into the den. Standing up, she arched her back and stretched, letting out a big yawn. "What a beautiful morning, just look at all that puffy white snow outside." she said to herself as she stood up from stretching. Kate then walked over to where her husband, a omega male, was sleeping in a curled up ball on the floor.
"Humphrey" she said, sticking a paw out and gently poking his nose with it "wake up, its Christmas, you need to stop sleeping and come take a look at all the beautiful snow outside." The male opened one eye, sighed, and glanced up at his wife. "Kate." he said, with a tired expression "I understand its an important holiday, and I am sure the snow is amazing, but I was out for most of the evening with my omega buddies yesterday, can't I get just a few more minutes of sleep?" Kate rolled her eyes "Babe, we have talked about this, you are a responsible omega now, you need to start thinking about your sleep schedule." she plopped down next to him, and gave him a loving look "you are lucky I love you." she said with a grin spreading across her face.
Humphrey chuckled back at this "I love you too Kate, I will try to be more careful with when I get home in the evenings." He leaned his nose out, asking his beautiful wife for a kiss, she blushed slightly at his goofiness and leaned her nose forward, meeting his. The couple rubbed them together and they then snuggled close together to get a few more minutes of much needed sleep.
(Meanwhile in The Den of Lily and Garth, a different exchange was going on.)
The pretty omega female had awakened from a restful sleep, and was rummaging around the den making sure it was nicely decorated before her husband Garth woke up. "everything has to be perfect." she said to herself as she stood up on her hind legs to place some berries on a little pine tree. "This is Garth's and my first Christmas together, I want it to be amazing." She finished decorating the tree, and she looked around at her accomplishments. Happily content with the way things were, she walked over to her sleeping husband with confidence in her step.
"Babe" she announced sweetly "wake up! its Christmas Morning." Garth opened his eyes sharply and looked into the excited face of Lily. "Well, good morning gorgeous." he said with a grin "don't we look extra happy today." The Alpha male stood up, yawned, and gave his spunky wife a tender kiss, "Merry Christmas my dear, I can't wait to see what you have planned today." Lily kissed him back and giggled "Look around honey, do you notice how nicely decorated the den is?" she motioned at the holly berries, the little pine Christmas tree, and the plumes of winter flowers. Garth gazed at everything carefully, clearly impressed "wow, this looks so festive! good job honey." he placed his head on her back, hugging her close to him, the female beamed and returned the hug gently.
(Lets go back and see if Kate and Humphrey have woken up from there sleep yet, shall we?)
Back at Kate and Humphrey's den, the couple had woken up and were eating a delicious breakfast of caribou, that was of course freshly caught by Kate. Humphrey took a big bite, and chewed it slowly "Mhmmmm" he said after swallowing "great catch my dear, seems like the caribou are extra fat, must be because of the upcoming winter or something." Kate finished eating and grinned at her husband "Yeah." she said "they are pretty delicious aren't they, now come on, lets clean up and exchange presents! I can't wait for you to see what I got for you." she clapped her paws together, clearly excited.
Humphrey groomed himself and laughed at how excited his wife was "I can't wait for you to see what I got for you, my princess!." he walked over to a more private section of the cave and fumbled around for the present, eventually finding it. He then trotted back over to where Kate was patiently waiting. "Alright Kate, close your eyes, no peeking now." the female placed her paws over her eyes, anxiously waiting for her gift. Humphrey walked behind her, and tenderly put something around her neck, he then stood back and announced "You can open your eyes now my dear."
Kate opened her eyes and looked down, there on her neck was a elegant necklace, it was made out of carved bone and had a shimmering ruby in the middle of it. "Oh Humphrey." she gasped, tears beginning to fall out of her green eyes. "This is stunning, how in the world did you manage this...?" Humphrey blushed "that is my secret, anyway do you like it?" Kate leapt into her mate's arms, crying and laughing at the same time "Of course! I love it so much, thank you thank you thank you!" she licked his face over and over, causing him to laugh right along with her.
Kate got up off the floor and said "Alright, now its my turn to give you your gift." she walked over to her private corner of the den and grabbed the gift from where it lay. Coming back, she motioned to Humphrey to close his eyes, once he had done so, she placed a small object into his paws, and then stood back. "Okay" she said "you can open your eyes now." Humphrey did and he looked down to see a carved wooden moon, the male gasped and gazed at his wife. "Honey, this is beautiful, and it reminds me of when we first howled at the moon together!." He stood up and pulled Kate close to him. "Thank you." he said, a bit muffled because his face was in her fur. "I love it so much, and I love you even more, Merry Christmas sweetie, Merry Christmas indeed." Kate smiled warmly and replied "I love you too Humphrey, so much."
(Now its back to Lily and Garth's den, to watch them exchange gifts!)
Lily and Garth had finished their hug, and were now sitting together, preparing to exchange gifts. Lily said "can I go first? I really think you are going to like what I got for you!" she put her paws behind her back and pulled out a small pendent. Garth looked at it "Oooo, what is that?" he reached out for it and inspected it, trying to figure out what it was. Lily giggled at his confusion "It is a turtle carved out of caribou bone! I know they aren't your favorite animals, but I feel like it will remind you of me, you know, whenever you look at it." Garth beamed and leaned over to lick his mate's cheek. "This is really sweet babe, thank you so much." He then stood up, put the pendent in a safe place, and went to go grab Lily's present. He came back, and gently tied something around her neck "look down sweetheart, I hope you like this."
His Mate glanced down and on her neck, was a necklace, unlike Kate's it was carved out of wood instead of bone, and in the middle instead of a ruby, was a shimmering amethyst. "Oh Garth, this is beautiful, and the gem! its purple, just like my eyes." She touched her paw gently to it, feeling its smoothness. "Thank you so much, I will treasure this forever and ever." she gently nuzzled him, and he nuzzled her back, enjoying the feeling of her warm fur, and her sweet scent of flowers. "Merry Christmas Babe." Garth said smiling "I hope we will be together for many more holidays to come." Lily sighed and answered back "I know we will be my darling, Merry Christmas to you as well."
