NOTE TO Guest/country girl 06: Sorry, Bobby/Darcy fan. I've described why several times in my past stories!
TRIVIA: In what episode was it flipped, and Sue and Jack said they'd do what they are now doing?
BONUS: What is a surreptitious warrant?
?-?
"HELLO!" Sue excitedly signed as she and her team walked into the bullpen.
Jack smiled through his mask, walking up to her to give her a quick kiss hello.
"So why are we here?"
Jack pointed at Mya. "Ask her. Only she knows."
"You're going undercover." Mya replied, speaking and signing.
"I am?" Sue asked, surprised. "Why?"
"Because they desperately need an adoption specialist, and you're the perfect person for the job." Mya replied, smiling.
Sue looked at Jack. "I, I don't know." She then turned to Mya.
"Aw, come on, it's perfect for you!" Mya exclaimed.
Sue turned back to Jack. "Maybe if you come in as my assistant."
He shrugged. "We always said we'd do that. And if I get to be near you more, I'm always up for anything." Jack replied, slightly smiling.
She smiled back, happy that he complied. "It's settled, then. I will go undercover."
"Great!" Mya exclaimed. "Cause I've already created a resume for you, and she already replied, asking for an interview first thing Monday morning."
"Wow, you're fast." Sue replied, surprised. "And so is she."
"And good. And she's desperate." Mya said, smiling. "Now, let's figure out the little details to make this case tick!"
Sue chuckled, watching her excitedly tell her ideas for the case.
?-?
Monday morning came quickly. They spent the weekend planning, so now it was time to execute. Since everyone would be masked, they had decided to have Sue only sign, and so Jack would be her interpreter and assistant. If anyone de-masked in the course of the case, they would be completely unaware of Sue's capabilities, and would probably be more comfortable speaking about things they didn't want anyone to know about. Now, they were sitting in the lobby.
"Susan Tobin?" Kim announced, coming into the lobby.
Jack touched Sue's shoulder. "READY."
Sue nodded, then looked at Kim. "HELLO, MY NAME SUE." Jack interpreted for Kim.
Kim looked at her, a bit dumbfounded. "I, uh, your resume is impressive. Come, let's uh, talk in my office." She said when she composed herself.
Sue nodded after Jack interpreted.
As the two were following Kim, they exchanged hopeful glances. Hopefully this was their in.
?-?
"So, how did it go?" Mya said and signed when Sue and Jack walked into the bullpen later that afternoon.
"I think pretty good. Once she got over the shock that I'm Deaf." Sue replied, chuckling.
"We went out to lunch to celebrate." Jack added.
"No wonder you took so long!" Sarah exclaimed.
"And you didn't bring us anything?" Bobby asked, dejected by not seeing any doggy bags.
"No, but we did bring everyone this." Sue said as she pulled a box from her large purse, seeing what Bobby said through his clear mask.
"Krispy Kremes!" Mya exclaimed happily.
"It is Halloween season. Time for lots of sugar." Sue replied. Everyone chuckled.
"Besides, they had their fall flavors in stock." Jack said.
"Ooh, sounds tasty." Sarah said.
"Dig in!" Sue said as she placed the box on a nearby desk. Within seconds, everyone was crowded around, grabbing doughnuts.
"TRUE BUISNESS ME HAPPY US-TWO ATE BEFORE." Jack signed.
Sue nodded and smiled through her mask. "THEY CRAZY!"
"REASON WHY? FOOD."
"SWEET FOOD. NORMAL FOOD DIFFERENT." She replied.
"TRUE." He signed, thinking about what she said.
?-?
"I wonder if Sue'll get the job before our next meeting on Friday." Mya mused on Wednesday.
"If she gets the job." Myles added.
She glared at him. "She'll get it. Kim's desperate, and Sue has such an amazing resume. The only catch is she's Deaf."
"All the same, have you found anything more on Kim?" Jack asked.
"Nothing directly incriminating. She's being really smart this time. A lot of circumstantial, though. If Sue could just get in, we could get a surreptitious warrant, and go through her files, and hopefully find more incriminating evidence."
"She will. I know it." Jack replied.
Just then, Jack's phone rang. It was a FaceTime from Sue. He waved as he answered it.
"So, have you decided who you're going as to the Halloween party on Saturday?" Sarah asked Mya, walking up to her desk.
Mya smiled through her mask. "I have an idea for all of us. If everyone is compliant."
"What is it?" Sarah asked, curious.
Just as Mya was going to answer, Jack interrupted her. "Guys, Sue's in."
"She's in?" Mya confirmed excitedly.
Jack nodded. "She starts tomorrow."
"Then I should get that warrant started so you two can snoop around first thing in the morning!" Sarah said, walking back to her desk. "But Mya," She continued, turning around and walking backwards. "I want to hear that idea first thing when I finish!"
Mya smiled. "You got it."
