"Excellent." The magicians breathed out a sigh of relief, the transportation circle was already an immensely taxing ritual, with the unexpected variable of resistance they thought it wouldn't work.
"... Let's leave them here for a bit. Let them adjust. If the first thing they see are strange people staring at them like animals they may be a tad bewildered." The Queen spoke pleasantly, her way with words swaying anyone who may be impatient to her side.
And so they left the bodies of four sleeping people in the chamber undisturbed to wake up on their own.
The first one to wake up was the man with brown hair and blonde highlights. He was tall, not basketball tall, but maybe 5'11 or so, and he had an olive complexion, which was difficult to see as he was pale, as if he hadn't seen the sun his whole life, and had dark bags under his eyes.
As his eyes opened he instantly knew… this… this wasn't his house… and why was he on a cloud? Who were those people next to him?
'Whatever, someone else can deal with it.' And with that, he fell right back to sleep, passing whoever woke up next to deal with the situation.
A few minutes later another boy woke up. Avi this time. He immediately sprang to his feet and took in the view. Avi was tall and proportional, with a very handsome face and broad shoulders, green eyes and long black hair. Standing at 6'5, he wasn't buff, but he was noticeably muscular. He was more lean and cut, more defined instead of bulky. The boy was half asian, Korean and American.
He was in a circular chamber, the ceiling was extremely high up and there were three people beside him in the center.
'Is… Is one of them floating on a cloud?' he shook away his confusion before continuing his observations of where he was.
One was a teenage girl. She was tall, maybe 5'10, with long blonde hair down to her hips, the bottom half of which was a faded purple color. She was caucasian, but was tanned, like someone who went out a lot.
The other was an asian man, maybe in his early twenties. Most likely japanese. He was the same height as F.B., seeming to be around 5'11.
He didn't know where he was, but he knew his body and something was different. He was stronger, faster, and he could feel something at the tip of his fingertips, something dangerous, the air around him seemed more intimate, more an extension of him.
He was surrounded by strangers, in an unknown place. These people were most likely taken like he was, but still. He couldn't trust anyone, all he needed to do was get home, since there was no doorway, he decided to wait.
And that was what the other two woke up to. A boy sitting in the corner, observing them with bright piercing green eyes and a strange dude curled up snoring on a cloud.
The first one to break the ice was Hoka.
"So… why is he on a cloud?"
"Should we wake him up?" The Hoka wondered aloud.
He was ignored.
"I'm Avi. Avi Park. I'm 16 today and I think we were kidnapped. Who are you?" the boy spoke, still huddled up in the corner but was still respectful.
There was silence, then the girl spoke up. She had beautiful eyes, each had different color, one being a deep turquoise and the other a gorgeous silver-grey. They were enrapturing.
She was quiet, but her eyes were sparkling. "Guys… we've been isekaied! We've been fucking taken to another world! Probably to fight the demon king or something!" Her smile was wide as she exclaimed this, making the man on the cloud grunt in annoyance, this apparently reminded her she was with other people. She quickly shut her mouth and began to blush, "uh… sorry… I'm just really into isekai stuff." She timidly spoke, worried they would be put off by her attitude.
"Yea! I can totally see this as an isekai situation, although I wish it had been truck-kun instead. The transportation I had was fucking painful. I'm Hoka Mosu, 22 and from Japan, and am I the only one who feels… off? And while I'm at it I don't think I'm speaking japanese, but it feels like I am at the same time…?" He trailed off, obviously confused by his own realisation.
"Yes, I don't think our bodies are the same as before, most likely from our transportation here, and my words sound english to me, but the movements definitely aren't." Avi agreed, nodding his head.
"Sorry… I didn't catch your name." Avi spoke, trying to move the conversation along so he could get to himself.
"I'm… uh… Emma Lameria." She said it so quietly it was almost unnoticeable, "I was from Wyoming. Lot's of wilderness there."
"Oh. I live in America, with you. I lived in Texas, in Woodland. Listen, I don't know about you guys. But I need to get home as soon as possible. Since you seem to know more on this topic of… well…" He trailed off, realizing that he didn't know what this 'topic' was," Do you know anything that could help me?"
Emma had an uncomfortable expression on her face and Hoka sighed, "... Avi… In isekais, you don't get to go home. Sometimes you do if you do as they say, but usually you just… don't get to go home."
It was then that a doorway appeared out of thin air in front of them and out walked a man in a suit of armor and four others but unlike him they were wearing chain mail, the one in front had a face covered in scars. His nose was crooked, as if it had been broken and never healed. The knight was huge. His height was 6'2, but that wasn't the huge part, his arms looked like a gorillas and his legs basically changed the definition of leg day.
"It's about time you woke up. The queen has been waiting. You don't make the queen wait." The man in front emphasized the word 'don't'. Avi narrowed his eyes, but no one saw, and F.B. continued to snore softly.
"Be honored that you have been chosen, now follow me." With that he briskly walked back through the doorway. Then one of the four other knights gasped.
Hoka had some… questionably immoral thoughts at this moment.
"SIR ALBERIC! One of them has already used his abilities!" The man sleeping on the cloud had been behind the door way so when the group walked through they hadn't seen him. The bear-like man sprinted back through the doorway and stared.
"This man must be a prodigy! We really hit the jackpot, her majesty will be pleased." The now named Alberic exclaimed, obviously pleased with this discovery.
'Why is it so noisy' The man slowly sat up and looked at the Knight who was staring at him.
"What is your name sir hero?"
"... F.B." If it wasn't for the fact F.B. was afraid of getting a headache, he would have questioned the large man's stupidity, did he look like a hero?
'I have a feeling that I'm going to be asked to do something strenuous. Why does this always happen to me? How annoying.'
After a lot of fussing and joyful shouts they were led through the doorway to a luxurious hallway. Crystal chandeliers decorated the ceiling, a soft red carpet covered the floor, and sunlight shone through the large windows covering the walls.
'Ugh… so bright' F.B. thought.
'I'm not getting any sleep tonight am I.' he morbidly spoke in his head, and had anyone read his emotions at that moment, they would have felt like they were walking to the gallows.
Hoka was not standing in line like he was told, instead he was moving about looking at everything he could.
"Tch, get back in line." Alberic barked. Hoka slowly turned his head to make direct eye contact with him.
"What is it!?"
"Noooothing." Hoka whistled an eerie yet cheerful tune and then proceeded to do the exact opposite of what Alberic told him to do.
Alberic made it a point not to show fear as he was a knight, but he couldn't lie that he did feel a bit unnerved, he felt as though a monster had walked upon his grave, he had best be wary of this 'man'.
Emma (the most normal of the group) frowned, upset by Alberic's attitude so far, only seeming happy when the sleepy hobo looking dude was found sleeping on a cloud.
'Hopefully they aren't all assholes, anyways, I like Isekais and I don't like home… but they did still kidnap me, but then again it's still better than home, meh let's see where this goes for now.'
Avi was in the back. He was not happy either. His expression was one of emotionlessness, but his mind was whirling.
'I need to get home, I've been kidnapped, how do I leave?' In the time that he had been the only one conscious he had done some tests. He knew something was different, and he was right. He had powers. Aerokinesis. It was to an unknown extent, but it was still something. He was also physically improved as well. Without actually going all out he couldn't know the exact amount, but it was more than ten times. This included his reaction speed, and senses. He even processed information faster, it was as if his mind was clearer, and he was full of energy.
They eventually came to a huge archway.
One of the chainmailed men announced them. "ENTERING, THE FOUR HEROES!"
The room was massive, it seemed more like a football stadium than a room, with an arena at the bottom, a glass ceiling, and many stands above the stadium. At the far back were three thrones on raised pedestals. The highest had a middle aged looking woman in it. She wore a luxurious violet dress, and had a jewel encrusted crown. She was elegant and regal looking. The woman was indeed very good-looking, but she was extremely professional, with her unwavering violet eyes and her flowing hair.
On her right was a lower throne in which an older man sat in, He looked stiff, the corners of his blue eyes were creased, as if he had laughed a lot in his past. However his expression as he looked at the heroes was one of discomfort and irritation.
'Interesting.' Avi was good at reading people, it was a requirement in his lifestyle.
And on the left was a younger woman, maybe in her early twenties. She had crimson hair, unlike his father's white, and his mother's jet violet. Her eyes were also different, they were light green, different from his mother's violet and her father's blue. The princess seemed very seductive, she exuded beauty.
'That princess… I bet she's a two faced bitch.' Avi saw her smug eyes, her expression was one of innocence, her mouth all cute like and her delicate smile, oh but her eyes... 'I hate them…'
F.B. was uncaring of his situation, only wanting to sleep, but he noticed that the girl with the green eyes was dangerous, not physically, but she was one who looked like she could sell a man a grain of sand for a bar of gold, and then laugh at their face for doing it.
'Well… let's just stay away from her. She's more trouble than I need.' with that he let his eyes continue to survey the others.
Unfortunately for the other two, they didn't seem to notice anything. If Hoka did, he didn't care, he seemed like the type to go after trouble, and welcome it if it came to him. He was the type that, while intelligent, he relied more on his instincts. He was also the type that was always doing something, and doing it with a smile (or maybe a malicious grin). As for Emma, well, Emma was a bright kid, unfortunately her skill set didn't lie in social skills.
On balconies on both sides were numerous people in bright colored clothes. While on the floor each wall was lined with knights. They were being stared at like caged beasts.
'This is unpleasant.' Everyone thought, except for Hoka of course, he seemed completely at peace with his new surroundings, beaming at everyone he saw.
Avi stood to the far left, his arms crossed, staring at the Queen amiably, even though his thoughts were anything but.
Emma was taking in everything she could as discreetly as possible, while looking at the floor. She didn't enjoy being stared at by so many people.
F.B. …, well he was yawning.
Hoka was just smiling serenely at no one in particular.
Alberic took a deep breath. "Royal Knight Captain Alberic presents the four elementals of old!"
The Queen just maintained eye contact with Avi.
Murmurs began to erupt from the balconies, "How impudent, they aren't even kneeling!" "Why did we have to resort to bringing outsiders to help up." "Do the mongrels not know common courtesy?" "I wonder which is which…"
After the queen calmed down she started to talk again.
"Hello, heroes. I am Queen Mirellia Q Melromarc." Waving her hand to her right, "Next to me is my husband, Aultcray Melromarc XXXII." waving her hand to her left, "And that is my daughter, Malty Q Melr-"
"Can you send me home." It sounded more like a statement than a question. Avi knew that he was being rude, but he honestly didn't give a singular flying fuck. These people kidnapped him, he didn't care why, he wanted to go home.
"How dare he!" The surrounding nobles muttered, "We brought him here, he is our property!
But surprisingly, the queen didn't seem mad, she seemed more disappointed.
'He must be the one who resisted. I wonder how.'
"I know that we didn't really ask for consent, but we need help. So if you could please hold your questions until the-"
"Can you send me home." Avi repeated, he had been holding himself back, but he wouldn't let himself be pushed around.
"Er… yes. We can send you back home after you help us."
'She's lying' Both F.B. and Avi noticed it instantly. F.B. didn't seem to be paying attention, but in reality he noticed more than anyone else, except for maybe Avi.
With Avi being so focused on getting home, F.B. was the first one to notice that a little girl was standing in the very back corner of the stands, shadowed by the adults.
If not for the effort it would take, F.B. would have squinted his eyes.
'She looks like the queen a bit. Ugh, whatever, When is this over?'
In the meantime, 'This is fun. This is reeeeally fun. The Queen doesn't seem to be telling the truth either, whatever, I'll just have a good time while I'm here.' This was Hoka's thought process, he noticed something was off, but didn't care enough to pursue the thought, he had better things to daydream about. Whatever happened happened, 'hehehe, I don't have to restrict myself anymore.'
'What an odd fellow.' The Queen mused, 'it seems that my so-called heroes are all rather distinct individuals. I'm not sure if that's a good thing quite yet. Why is he so happy? He had been, erm, unlawfully seized. Why is that other one so bored? He should have been subjected to immense pain. How did that one resist? It should be impossible to resist a transportation spell without magic aiding him. Perhaps I should talk to the girl first.'
'I don't really want to go home though,' was what Emma was thinking.
Avi put on a relieved expression, "Thank you, sorry I was so rude before. Hehe…"
'Her eye is twitching, she stuttered, and she raised a fan over her mouth, she's a liar. She doesn't even know if she can send me home or not.' Avi speculated while putting on an act.
"Hey think of the possible bright side, maybe time has slowed down or stopped back home, it happens in most Isekai" Emma pointed out, this did little to make Avi feel better, if anything he would either get home as fast a possible, or get back home to nothing having changed, but he refused to stay here for longer than necessary.
All the while F.B. was thinking, 'If I'm a hero, will my bed be even fluffier than that cloud? Because that cloud is nice and soft, and I can't see anything beating it.'
"No no, I completely understand your confusion," The queen seemed glad Avi apologized. Then the queen went stony faced.
"We need your help. Desperately."
"Interdimensional portals have been pouring waves of monsters into our lands. They continue to get more difficult to manage every wave, soon we will be overrun."
Beneath Avi's calm facade he raged. 'Why does her concerns mean that I should be ripped from my world when I have my damn own?!' but then he began to rationalize, the rage within him got larger, but Avi always took logic over emotions. His emotions just dictated what he rationalized, 'I understand, I still don't care though. So what will I do? Will I take advantage of them and squeeze this kingdom of all of its resources to help me? Or will I play the villain? Which route takes me home faster?'
"We summoned you heroes to aid us in our plight, because of these waves every kingdom has created a temporary alliance, despite our differences."
'Here it is! Here's where we get our powers!' Emma could barely contain her excitement.
"You all should have a different element. As of now you may have no control over your element, but the heroes of the past have all been so powerful that they could each decimate entire cities within a day."
'I'll get stronger than that.' Hoka silently set his goal.
'What the fuck. I don't want powers, I want sleep. Why should I take time out of my sleep schedule to kill monsters and hone powers I don't care for?'
'This is so cool!' Emma was already thinking of all the things she wanted to do.
"You should each feel an affinity, a deeper connection with your element than any other could wish to have." The queen, deaf to their inner thoughts, moved on.
The door behind them opened and four servants came through, each carrying something different. One carried a leaf, another carried a cup of water, one carried a torch, and the last carried a medium sized stone. Each object was set on a pedestal in front of them.
"Please focus and try to manipulate your element. It's a lot to take in a once, I understand. But just try."
Emma reacted first, reaching over, she plucked the rock from the forth magician's hand not giving him time to put it onto the pedestal, she spent every minute she could in nature, her element was basically destined to be earth. it felt natural to her. And as she focused, the rock lengthened into a long, sharp spear, then the floor began to shift and tremble. The floor split in three directions, beginning at her feet and stopping at the foot of each throne, before the cracks continued to travel upwards until the pedestals themselves split. The Queen leaned forward to look at the crack right below her, then she gave Emma a thumbs up. Wiping away the sweat from her brow, she smiled in satisfaction as she grabbed the spear and stabbed it into the epicenter.
F.B. grimaced, 'Now I have to step over a crack.'
Hoka walked over to the fire pedestal and grabbed the flame. It flew from the torch into his hand. And then in a motion almost like he was yawning, he swallowed it. The nobles gasped, and the royal family stared incredulously. He raised his head up to the ceiling and roared, fire spewed from his mouth all the way up to the top, melting the glass roof. As he closed his mouth the fire quickly disappeared like a lie. He burped and a tiny flame poofed out. Spreading out his arms majestically,
"Tadaaaaa"
Avi decided to unleash some of his anger.
'Let's not keep everything bottled up.'
And with that the entire glass ceiling exploded. The glass shattered, and the shards came falling down, but stopped midair. The stands full of nobles muttered to one another, never seeing such a feat from a single air mage before. The glass all began to move toward one spot, as if being sucked into a black hole. A loud grating noise appeared as they all crushed each other into a fine powder before slowly drifting to the ground, the specks of glass shimmering in the light from the now open roof, casting everyone in rainbows of light, basking them in its magnificence.
As the glass slowly trickled down to the ground, the air became cold.
Many of the nobles, knowing of their majesty's affinity turned to look at her, only to find that she was not using her magic, but then a loud snore filled the room, almost mystifying everyone, the three heroes included, everyone turned their heads to the last hero to show his capability.
Where he was standing previously, he was now curled up like a cat atop a cloud, simply flouting there as he slept, but before anyone could truly react, a speck of the shattered glass touched his nose.
A loud crack sounded out, but instead of lightning, the air in the room dropped multiple degrees. Quickly the reason for the cracking sound was revealed, in the middle of the room where the shroud of glass once floated down peacefully, was now a block of ice, every single speck of glass seemingly frozen in it, almost looking like a chandelier simply hanging their, before in the next moment, it fell, being perfectly impaled by the spear in Emma's hand.
After the surprise showmanship, the queen requested that they introduce themselves.
"HI! The names Hoka Mosu! I was a businessman back home and 22 years old, I look forward to being um...a flame hero? Ohh! Can I burn stuff down?" Hoka finished speaking with and demented tilt to his voice, not helped by the 'unruly' smile he was giving the three nobles. Even if they said he couldn't burn anything down, he'd do it anyways.
Breaking the uncomfortable silence from Hoka's announcement, "I'm Emma, Emma Lameria, but just call me Emma, and I guess I'm the earth hero?" She spoke quietly at the end, put off by the gaze the queen's husband was giving her, he was glaring at her, rage and disgust evident even to her untrained eye.
"My name is Avi Park, I'm 16, a highschooler, and I'm the wind 'hero'" for the most part Avi's introduction was succinct and eloquent, but only the other three heroes and the queen could tell the underlying disgust in his voice at the world 'hero'.
'What a bitter child.' The queen contemplated, 'I wonder what tragedies he's gone through in his short lifetime.'
The queen's gaze finally fell upon the sleeping man, but before she could attempt to do anything, Emma stepped forward, surprisingly.
"Um, I'm not sure but something tells me it would be best to leave him alone, I mean, besides the fact he never once used water, he has used all other states of it so I guess it only makes sense he is the water hero, oh and his name is F.B. if I remember correctly, but that's about all I know" Emma squeaked out quickly, wary of the look of anger in the king's eyes, only held back by something she did not know.
Suddenly the king leaned forward, taking a deep breath, anger in his eyes as he glared at Emma's quivering form, evidently forgetting of her status as the earth hero, but before he could get a word out, the cup of water on the last pedestal suddenly shifted before the water inside of it lunged forward and splashed across the king's face, his eyes began to bulge and a vein in his forehead was threatening to burst, while F.B. kept on blissfully snoring away, unaware as to what he had just done. Or maybe he was completely aware, it was hard to tell with him.
This apparently was a signal to the queen as she snapped her gaze to her husband, her gaze cold enough to freeze the water on his face, with reluctance he leaned back, putting up a facade of calm, eyes brimming with held back anger.
A timid glance from Emma towards F.B. shocked her as she could see the frown on his face, not one of annoyance, but one that made her remember the times when she was young and her father frowned at her, disappointed. And barely held back from laughing at the thought of a hobo frowning in disappointment at a king.
A sharp snap of a fan brought everyone's focus back on the queen.
"I must thank you all for coming here, that while I'm well aware that the transportation here is painful." A single glance was the only indication she was wary of F.B., the only one who currently was not soaked head to toe in blood, "And I'm sure you could all use some rest and break from everything that has been dumped on to all of you today." with a flourish she snapped her fingers, and quickly the crowd up above began to leave, thinning out quickly before soon only the three nobles and four heroes remained.
Soon after the doors to the room opened and four maids stepped through before quickly walking to be in front of one of the four heroes.
"These four will lead you all to your rooms." with that, the maids in front of Hoka, Avi, and Emma bowed before quickly walking, and the three heroes following, the fourth maid was left behind, a frown maring her porcelain like face, staring down at the man currently sleeping on a cloud, but small steps snapped her out of her thoughts.
Behind the main was the fourth noble of the castle, she was Melty Q Melromarc, and was the heir to their majesty, she smiled kindly to the maid.
"Please, let me handle this, as someone who has always been a fan of the water heroes of old, it would remiss of me to not take the opportunity to meet the water hero of this generation." the maid debated this, quickly glancing over to the queen, now alone, and a nod of her head made up the maids decision.
"Of course mistress." With that the maid quickly stepped away for Melty to care of, the conundrum that was the water hero.
Melty stared at the water hero, a hand placing itself on her shoulder made her look up at her mother.
"He is the water hero...right?" Melty muttered half to herself and half to her mother, the elements of water ran strong in the family of Melromarc, but not a single hero of water had displayed such capabilities as the one they had now, but before the mother and daughter could fall into doubt, a grunt interrupted their thoughts.
The hero of water leaned up, before only shaking his head twice, then looked at the duo, "where is everyone?"
His voice shattered the stillness of the air as the mother and daughter stared at him tensely, but eventually Mirellia steeled herself.
"Excuse me hero of water, but may I ask, who are you?" her question was met with silence, his face bland and his body posture both uncaring and unbothered, but soon he spoke.
"I'm F.B., I'm 32 and a retired chemist." that was all they heard before he suddenly collapsed back into his cloud, leaving the mother and daughter to mull over what he said. Eventually, Melty used a quick chant to create a bed of water under F.B.'s form, quickly taking him to his room.
The other heroes were in their rooms, each one reacting differently to their suite sized rooms, but almost as one, they all took a bath, no matter their reservations, they all desperately wanted the blood and vomit on them off. Soon all three heroes were ready to sleep, for a long time after everything they had gone through. And so was the end of their first day in this new and fantastical world.
