Ever since John came over for dinner Kori asked to talk to him every day. It was early in the morning. Kacey and Kori were in the kitchen. Kori had just got done Skyping with Max.

"Mommy let's call John please." Kori said.

"Well he might not answer."

"Can we try?"

"Yeah." Kacey set it up to call John. It rang and connected a few seconds later. John popped up on the screen. "Hi John."

"Hi." John said.

"Kori wants to talk to you."

"Ok." "One question first." "Are we still on with Kim and Randy when you come to Missouri?"

"Yes."

"Hi John." Kori said.

"Hi." John said.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm just in my hotel room getting ready to go to the gym." "What are you doing?"

"I just got done talking to my daddy."

"Cool."

"Do you still have the finger paint I gave you?"

"Yes I do."

"Do you want another one?"

"Sure."

"What do you want?"

"Surprise me."

"I will." "When are you coming back here?"

"I don't know yet."

"I hope it's soon."

Three nights later Kori was sitting on Mary's floor finger painting.

"What are all those paintings for?" Mary asked.

"One's for mommy, one's for daddy, one's for stepmommy and one's for John."

"That's nice of you to make one for John."

"He's not mommy's boyfriend like I thought."

"He's not?"

"No."

"Do you think he should be?"

"Yeah."

"So do I."

In Missouri Kacey, John, Kim and Randy were all meeting for dinner. Kacey and John arrived at the restaurant at the same time and walked in together. Kim and Randy were already at the table.

"Here comes the happy couple." Randy said teasingly.

"Fuck off Randy." Kacey said. She looked at Kim. "Hi I'm Kacey." "John's friend and only his friend, despite the lies Randy has probably told you."

"I've heard stories." Kim said.

"Which ninety percent were probably lies." John said.

After dinner Kim and Randy were walking to their car.

"She's nice." Kim said.

"I knew you'd like her."

"Who are her and John kidding?" "Anyone can see that they love each."

"I know."

Kacey and John went back to John's hotel room. They were laying in bed. They kissed.

"I had fun tonight." Kacey said.

"Having sex or dinner?"

"Dinner." She said jokingly.

"Ouch."

"I'm kidding."

"I know."

"John there's something you should know." "Remember the last time we had sex, before I started seeing Max?"

"Yeah."

"Two months after that, I found out I was pregnant."

"You were pregnant?" He said surprised.

"Yeah."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"I wanted to tell you in person." "Three days after I found out, I was attacked by a passenger and I lost the baby."

"I can't believe we were gonna have a baby."

"I was going to give you the choice to be involved or not." "At least now I know what you would've chosen."

"Why do you think that?"

"Well you had a vasectomy, so it's obvious you're not interested in having children."

"I would've been there for you and the baby." "I'm glad you told me." "I'm sorry that happened." He kissed her.
