Chapter 2: Aaron Burr? ...Sir?

And everyday while slaves were be slaughtered and carted away across the waves, she excelled and kept her heart up. Inside, she was ready for something to be a part of, the sister already knew how to invoke, rebuke, and barter.

Kara and her gang strode excitedly into the pub. As soon as she walked in, the dismal air of the pub around them crackled to life with energy. Some of the patrons were positively buzzing with good cheer while others were well...just buzzed. But still in some good spirits!

"YO, BARKEEP!" Mulligan shouted over the ferver. "WE'LL HAVE THE USUAL, MAKE IT FOUR THIS TIME!"

The patrons of the bar patted them on the back, laughing excitedly, shaking their hands, and one of them even whistled at her and it made her blush. As they sat at their table, Kara couldn't help but exclaim her awe at the place.

"Everyone here is in such good spirits! The auras here are so pink and bright! I've never seen people so, wait I think that guy fell asleep in his drink."

"Oui, but he it still in some good spirits," Laf joked.

Kara laughed at his joke. The word "spirit" can mean aura, ghost, cheer, or alcohol! So this line works on multiple levels!

"I just don't get it, what is everyone so excited about?"

The three knuckleheads looked at each other simultaneously and without missing a beat, they raised their glasses into the air and cried out,

"THE REVOLUTION!"

They laughed and took a drink. Laurens turned to Kara, a look of hope twinkling in his hazelnut eyes.

"They're excited because they know the cause we fight for! Everyday we get closer to freedom the tyranny of King George and the end of slavery!" he said.

"I'LL DRINK TO THAT!"

"Oui oui!"

Clink!

Kara was confused by this but didn't get a chance to ask what he meant. The beautiful boy had more to say and she was keen to listen.

"Kara, ever since you arrived you sparked hope in all of us. I've never seen New York so lively before. It's almost, I dunno...like magic," he said.

Kara blushed. She knew her presence had caused them to cheer but to give them hope to win the war? To mean that much to these goofs that she'd grown to love…

She cursed her porcelain skin for turning red so easily.

Suddenly a cold breeze sent shivers down her spine.

"Yes, Kara, it is quite like magick."

A tall man in a violet coat had stepped into the room. He wore a purple tail coat with hair to match and a black silk ribbon tied into a large bow. His nails were long and painted with a violet color so dark it was nearly black.

He was handsome or would've been if not for the eyepatch covering one of his eyes.

"But of course we know there's no such thing, right?" he said.

"I, uh, well…" she stammered. Who was this guy?

"Well, if it ain't the prodigy of Princeton College!" beamed Laurens

"Aaron Burr!" exclaimed Herc as he lifted his glass.

Kara's heart froze at the mention of his name.

"Give us a verse, drop some knowledge!"

Burr smirked and cleared his throat.

"Good luck with that
You're taking a stand

You spit

Imma sit

Let's see where we land"

And that made her blood boil. How could he be so cavalier about the struggle that her friends where going through!? Without thinking she pointed at him and yelled

"If you stand for nothing Burr, what will you fall for!?"

She stopped, shocked. Her voice had sounded like two voices. How was this possible?

She turned...and met eyes with a handsome young man who was also pointing at Burr. He had piercing blue eyes and hair black as midnight, same as her own. For a moment, he was just as shocked as her. Her body quivered slightly as she meekily asked,

"Who are you?"

The man crossed his arms confidently and smirked.

"Damn, it's getting dark, guess I'd better spell out my name."
