Authors Note: Hello, and welcome to my fanfiction! ^_^

These chapters were written back-to-back so if you left a positive review, I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet. I would like to thank everyone for their constructive criticism, in particular my friend Nanowhymo whose advice I took to heart. Enjoy!

Chapter 3: Her Shot

But when magick evil came and devastation reigned, and our girl saw the future slip, slipping away, she bottled up her pain, collected up all her strength, and knew she had to find a way to go and save the day.

As the pub closed down and the night closed in, the only patrons left where the five good friends (and Aaron Burr) laughing as they exchanged stories. The whole table had been enraptured by the two Hamiltons' stories. Kara would craft an outrageous tale of humor and intrigue, but not to be outdone, Alex would weave a web with words filled with romance, tragedy, humor, and heart. Just when you thought you knew where it was going, he would flip it around at the last line that made you rethink the whole story!

"..but he's like a real person, and he came up to us and he said, 'Early to bed, early to rise, and the early riser? Hamilton!' and I was like I can't believe that's how he actually starts conversations! It was the craziest thing I've ever seen! Swear to God! That's my story!"

The table erupted in laughter. Jon was nearly in tears, Herc was holding his chest, and milk spilled out of Laf's nose. Kara was in absolute awe of him and couldn't help but stare at him dreamily. The only one who wasn't completely engulfed by the story was Burr who sneered an unamused sneer. He stared bloody daggers at Kara, stabbing her with his eyes.

"Ay ay ay, if y'all want a STORY check thi-" Herc started.

"Actually," said Burr "I'm more interested in you, Kara."

"Wh-what's there to know?"

"What year were you born?"

"1765."

"Place of birth?"

"New York."

"Where do you go to school?"

"New York...Royal High."

"Never heard of it."

"It's a pretty exclusive academy."

"Can you sing?"

"Yeees", she sung

"Dance?"

"Naturally."

"Do you play?"

"Badmitten, baseball, polo..."

"I meant instruments."

"Bagpipes, bass drum, piano..."

Laf, Herc, and Jon were exhausted watching the mental ping pong between these two brain titans, but not Alex. Alex was intrigued.

"Ahhh," said Burr "But can you spit?"

Kara blinked.

"I...could spit on you right now if you want."

Jon laughed. She was so cute.

"Kara he means spit a verse, drop a bar. You know, rap!"

Ah! She smacked her head. How could she be so stupid! Burr had even rapped earlier! She had completely forgotten how popular rapping was in the 1700's. In her time period, freestyle hiphop had fallen out of style in favor of lofi chillhop. She had never rapped in her entire life, but if she couldn't rap now she'd be outed as being from the future. The stakes were high.

"Of course, of course, of course I can rap. I spit so much they call me the sprinkler, hahaha..ha..ha…" she lied, not so convincingly. She was really bad at fake laughing, it was one her biggest flaws.

Aaron Burr smirked evilly. He must've seen through her clever lie. He knew she couldn't rap! And he was about to put his evil plan into action. He stood, cleared his throat and began to rap.

"So you say you spit fire, but I say you can't

Ain't you callin you a liar, but the only fire's in your pants."

"OOOOH!" the table ooed.

"C'mon Kara, show us whatchu got, girl!" bellowed Herc.

She had never rapped, but hey, no time like the present, right? Well, past. Whatever. She also stood, cleared her throat, and began to rap.

So you say you spit bars, but I ain't scared of ya

I'll beat you down harder than a redcoat in America!

"OUAHHAHHAAAA!"

"Woah mama!"

"You are ze worst, Burr!"

Alex didn't say anything, he was too stunned. Even Kara had surprised herself. That was the first time she'd ever rapped...and it was really good! It felt...right! As if it just naturally flowed out of her. Burr was angry, but he wasn't about to give up. With the last of his strength, he managed to muster one last rap.

I'dbetterrapfasterifI'mgonnathrowyouoff,

Iknowyou'reprettygoodbutI'mtheonewho'sboss

I'llpunchyouinyourfaceandsockyouinthejaw

AndwhenI'mdoneyou'llknowthewordofBurrisLAW!

Burr dropped to his knees, sweating but clearly satisfied with himself. What he had done was perhaps the greatest piece of poetry Kara had ever heard. She had no hope of possibly beating him at this point. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes...and...

Oh you wanna hit me in my face
Well let me move closer then

You already hit me? Huh, I didn't feel it go in

Keep chippin' away but you can't have a piece

Go ahead and rap faster, but you can't master me

I'm a lyrical miracle masterpiece

Hit me again, you know you can't win

I'm Kara Suman, I don't need an introduction

When you knock me down

I GET THE F***** BACK UP AGAIN!

There was a stunned silence. Burr's face dropped to the floor. Alex's eyes sparkled. Laf had a quizzical look on his face. Jon's mouth gaped. Herc...well he was the first to break the silence.

"Yo...that….was...AMAZING!"

The group broke into cheers and hugs all around. Kara smiled as she found herself in a group hug with the three knuckleheads. Alex hung back but he smiled and nodded enthusiastically. Even the great Aaron Burr had to give some begrudging respect.

"Well Kara, you certainly do know how to spit. I must give you my begrudging respect. Well, I'm afraid it's nearly midnight, and I must be getting on now. Gentlemen, ma'lady."

And with that, he collected his things, doffed his cap, and was on his way. Not before stopping in the doorway, though, and turning back to say one last thing.

"Goodnight Kara. I'll be keeping an eye out for you."

Alex raised his glass.

"A toast, gentleman. To Kara and to freedom," said Alex as he looked as Kara. "When our children tell our story, they'll tell the story of tonight!"

CLINK!

The group was getting their things and getting ready to turn in for the night. Jon gave her one last hug and sweetly waved goodbye. Laf kissed her hand and wished her au revoir. Herc gave her a noogie and said something about having to use that last line for himself. It was just Kara and Alex. She still couldn't believe she was standing there with him. He was so close. He took her hands. Her body quivered in shock.

"Kara," he began

He smelled nice, like cologne and aftershave.

"That was amazing. Those lyrics, I, I, I can't exactly explain it, but it felt like something I would've written. You faced down Burr, and you didn't throw away your shot. I can tell you and I are kindred spirits, Kara, and I think you'd make a good addition to the group. The boys and I were gonna go see a show on Broadway tomorrow and I'd be so delighted if you could come hang out with us."

She felt like she was going to faint. The most she could muster was a small

"yes"

Alex smiled with all of his teeth.

"Well then it's a date! Until tomorrow, Kara!" he said as he disappeared into the moonlit night.

Her knees weak and her head a little fuzzy, Kara could only think of one thing: Alex.

And then a second thing.

"Wait where am I supposed to sleep?"
