Beloukas felt sweat drip down his head, his smile straining as he looked at the hero of flame, or Hoka, as he wanted to be called, Beloukas could easily tell why the man was the hero of flame minus knowing his description, it was the blistering heat the man radiated in waves, Beloukas would be lying if he said he had met a man like Hoka, his smile was always just a little too wide, and not like his own, the man seemed to look through him when he had casually strolled in, the look in his eye was also dangerous, a man with little moral, looking, no, pleading for someone to fight him.
Casually trying to keep himself cool, he tried to talk to the man, only to be ignored, but then he stopped at the area where the cheap and dying slaves were, he seemed to look around like a child in a candy shop, looking amongst the slaves that were on the verge of death, but then he stopped and his grin became wider.
His hand reached out to grip one of the bar's, and Beloukas felt his grin also widen, he had forgotten the fox girl's name, but her face of despair was truly a beauty to behold, suddenly the palm of his hand began to burn a molten orange, but then just as he was about to grab the bars, presumably to melt them, he stopped, and stared at the girl inside, seemingly staring off into space.
"Do you by chance have any eggs?"
Beloukas jumped, "Uh… yes! Yes I do!" And with that he ran to get his special Lottery Eggs.
As Hoka inspected them he felt the heat signatures from each. He could see the tiny fetuses within.
'That one.' He looked at a particularly strong heat signature.
'Why are you glowing so brightly? It's as if you're calling out to me. My my, your will to live is tremendous.'
Hoka felt it, it was what drew him here. The tiny little egg had an aura so large that Hoka felt compelled to come find it. Perhaps with his help, it would grow into something magnificent.
Meanwhile Belouka was just staring at an odd man bending down and staring at one egg in particular.
'My arms hurt, is he going to pick one or not?'
"I'll take this one."
Hoka plucked the egg up and swallowed it.
'What is wrong with this person? Are these really what the heroes are like? If so I think we're fucked.'
As Hoka had a flame within his body, he was tempering the flame, and creating the perfect and safest incubation chamber for the egg… despite it being in a rather unsavory location.
'You will be born from the body of an Elemental Hero, I guess that makes you my child.'
Then he looked at the fox girl again. "Who is she?"
Beloukas handed him a profile sheet.
"Katsumi." Hoka spoke aloud, testing the name, nodding, he turned to Belouka and pulled a brown drawstring coin purse out, he had found it in his room, before taking out a single gold coin and tossing it to Belouka.
"That should be enough right?" Hoka shoved the coin purse into his pocket, ignoring Belouka as he melted the lock to the cage, before carefully picking up the sleeping fox girl, a quick glance told him she was far from healthy, in fact he was sure if he was here even a day later she would be dead, but the question was who could heal her?
Belouka cleared his throat, "Ahem… If I may, are you looking to heal the girl Sir? I have something I believe would do the trick."
"Are you talking about a healing potion?"
"Yes, of the highest quality. I don't think that anything else would heal that girl completely…"
Belouka handed Hoka a glass bottle with a glass topper, the liquid inside was orange in color.
"I'd advise you give her half now, and the rest in increments throughout the night."
"Why would you tell me that? Wouldn't you sell information at a higher price?"
"Normally yes, but you're a hero. So I'll give you a discount."
'Yeah right, I want connections. A hero would be an amazing bridge to have.'
"Cool, thanks." With an egg in his stomach, and a girl in his arms, Hoka left the tent.
Emma was working hard. According to Erhard, divine metal was not naturally occurring, the only piece known to man (perhaps others were hidden) was gifted to Erhard. It was supposedly a normal chunk of iron blessed by the gods. That explained why Emma could mold it how she wanted. After thinking for a while she decided that instead of a whip or a sword, she wanted a deck of cards. It'd be unique, well more unique than a sword at least. A traditional weapon wouldn't be of much use when she had Earth powers. So far she had created a single card out of the metal. It was small and rectangular. A thin sheet. But even that took almost everything she had, she ended up taking a nap on a cot in Erhard's back storage room. Much to Erhard's complaint of course. After resting for an hour she levitated the card and shot it forward, causing it to slice right through the wall.
"HEY!" Erhard yelled, he was having a tiring day, he grumbled glaring at the man that was currently sleeping on a cloud, not a day went by that he wanted to be a hero, but he would happily trade him positions if it meant he could sleep whenever he wanted.
Avi snapped his eyes open.
'How long have I been asleep?'
He rubbed his eyes and looked at the clock on the wall next to him. He'd been asleep for 4 hours. It was afternoon now, around 3. Standing up, he stretched and decided to go to the training grounds. He had memorized the palace grounds and had a map of the city and another of the world. Normally he'd go out and get a feel of the city, but instead thought it'd be better to do that tomorrow and start in the morning.
The training ground was just like a normal training ground. A large, flat, stone ground. The edge was surrounded by a rim of grass. It had an open ceiling as well. There was an indoor training ground too, which was more suited to training and had various contraptions. This one was more suited for sparring. But the only thing Avi wanted to learn today was control. Mainly by flying. He could try other things later. He'd be a hero, and he'd be such a good one that no one doubted him. The queen said she would look into ways for him to go home, he doubted she would tell him until the waves were over, but she would start researching immediately. So later he could just take the information. A couple hours passed by as Avi tried various things. Sometimes they'd work, other times he failed, but learned something interesting. But it was while he was trying to solidify the air beneath his feet so he could run on air if need be, a maid appeared.
"Sir hero, the queen requests you and the other hero's presence." Avi nodded, face blank.
"Lead the way." As Avi followed the maid the other three began to fall in line with him.
"What did you do today?" F.B. nodded at him.
"Learned a lot of stuff. Played around a bit." Avi shrugged, it was a pretty productive day.
"You said that you were going to the palace library right? Did you actually learn anything because correct me if i'm wrong but the language in this world is different right?" Emma spoke
"Yeah, it's called Stirin. It's a completely different alphabet but when you try to read it it translates itself. Definitely feels odd."
"Awesome, I-." But before Emma could say anything else the maid stopped abruptly and turned a corner.
"I'm pretty sure we're on our way to the royal garden. I memorized the map." Avi said, quickly answering how he knew.
"Nice." Hoka was oddly quiet. He seemed to be focusing on something else.
Avi was right, they entered into a large open space. Rows of vibrantly colored exotic flowers winded in eccentric patterns. It looked like a maze, Avi was a bit worried Hoka would burn everything down, but a quick glance in his direction showed he didn't have that look in his eyes that wanted to burn everything, 'I guess I worried for nothing, but this look on him is more unnerving than his normal face.'
The maid led them to a gazebo, a place for shade from the sun. Queen Mirellia was already sitting at the table within. The four all sat around the round table, Avi sat normally, at ease. He was waiting for something to happen, Hoka plopped into his seat, without a trace of decorum, Emma was sitting awkwardly, unsure as to what to do. F.B. asked a maid for tea, before sitting down and putting his face in his arms, already ready for another nap.
"Hello heroes, how'd you spend your first day? Was it enjoyable?" the queen inquired.
"I went to the slave market." Hoka bluntly spoke, voice uncaring, like he was talking about the weather.
"I see." The queen's face stiffened.
"Yeah, gotta have companions in an isekai." Hoka just looked at her, this was one of the few times his face was dead serious.
"A what? Also if you need companions I'm sure I would arrange something. My own daughter Malty would love to join a hero." The queen subtly grimaced at her daughter's name, but continued nonetheless, "If you wish I could call her."
"Maybe, I'll think about it."
Emma could feel the uncomfortable tension and decided to change the subject.
"I visited a blacksmith named Erhard. He taught me the best ways to alter metal and gave me some good material. I made some really powerful weapons for myself."
"Oh? Erhard is a kind man, treat him well if you could." The Queen smiled, she liked Emma the best.
"I visited the library and learned about the world. Then I thought up some ways I could use my abilities." Avi began to chime in.
The queen was worried at first, she thought that the heroes were rather un-hero-like. But she was worried for nothing after all.
F.B. didn't raise his head, so his voice was quiet and muffled. "I walked around." F.B. hadn't done much that day, he just wanted to get a feel for the people.
"I hope you had a pleasurable experience." The queen cleared her throat, "I called you here to give you gifts. They are called status objects. When you wish to open it you will see your status and profile."
'Like a video game.' Emma realized that the queen probably didn't know what a video game was.
The queen snapped her fingers and four maids appeared around the corner behind her, each one holding a small black box, they all quickly placed their boxes in front of a hero before just as quickly disappearing.
In front of Avi was a one of the boxes, from a casual view you could tell that it was the biggest out of the four, and quickly opening it, surrounded in yellow velvet, was a Torc, it was thin where the two sides snapped together, but in the front it was broad, as a whole it was a pure white metal with vantablack streaks spider webbing randomly through it, but in the center was a oval shaped yellow crystal, and as Avi took a closer look at he saw his reflection stare back at him, and in a yellow flash of light the Torc was around Avi's neck, widened to fit him perfectly.
Emma was next to open her box, hers being the second largest, surrounded in green velvet was a Wristband, it was made of a light hazel shade, with flecks of amber, and on the top of it was a oval shaped green crystal, and as Emma saw her reflection in it, it to flashed in a green light, instantly appearing on her wrist, fitted perfectly.
Intrigued Hoka hurriedly opened his box, it was the same size as F.B.'s and when he opened he was greeted with red velvet surrounding a single earring, much like Avi's and Emma's the chain that would connect it to your ear was silver with crimson webbing on it, hanging on the other end of the short chain was a, oval shaped red crystal, with a flash of red light it appeared on his right ear.
Finally it was F.B.'s turn...if not for the fact the box was already open, his head still in his arms, Emma and the queen looked at him confused, it would be pretty hard to miss a bright blue light, but sitting their on his right middle finger was a ring, it was a much like all the others oval shaped and blue in color, the band of the ring being violet with the turquoise spider webbing metal like theirs. F.B. didn't want people to look at him, so he had done it more subtly at the same time as Avi, masking the light with his. He didn't fool Avi or Hoka though, as both glanced at him before ultimately ignoring it. Emma was more focused on her own box for her to notice.
After the queen released them, they all moved to Avi's room, where they talked about their experiences of the day. Most of the talk was Avi explaining what he had learned.
The next days were a blur, Hoka nursed the fox girl back to health, Avi practiced different techniques and explored the city, Emma spent a lot of time with Erhard, but she also visited the library often to read. F.B. slept a lot, but occasionally took midnight walks.
It happened on their fifth day in the fantasy world.
Avi poked his head into Hoka's room, "Yo, wanna spar?"
