Kacey hadn't spoken to John in three weeks. She refused to answer his calls and texts. She was reading Kori a bedtime story.

"Mommy are you and John having a fight?" Kori asked.

"No why?"

"You haven't talked to him for a long time."

"He's just busy."

"Then why are you so sad?"

"I'm not sad."

"Mommy it's bad to lie, yes you are."

"Why do you think mommy is sad?"

"When you talked to John you were happy, now you're not."

"Mommy's fine." "It's time to go to sleep." "Give mommy a kiss." She kissed her on the cheek. "I love you."

"I love you too mommy."

"Goodnight."

"Goodnight."

An hour later Kacey had just finished cleaning the kitchen. There was a knock at the door. She went up to the door.

"Who is it?" She asked.

"Me." John said.

She unlocked the door and opened.

"What are you doing here?"

"I need to talk to you."

She sighed. "Ok." He went inside. They sat down on the couch.

"Why won't you take my calls?"

"I don't know what to say to you."

"I know I sprang what I said on you."

"Yeah." "What brought it on?"

"Well I've always kind of felt something for you." "I think you know that already."

"I do."

"Ever since you told me about the baby, I just couldn't stop thinking about what might have happened, if things turned out differently." "It made me realize how much I wanted us, wanted you." "I want to be with you Kacey."

"John, I can't."

"Why?"

"I do love you."

"But?"

"But." "I'm afraid."

"Of what?"

"We've been friends forever." "I've never had to be afraid because feelings weren't involved." "If we get together, that goes away."

"What we'll get is better." "Love, commitment." "We could be very happy together."

"Unless it doesn't work out."

"I would never hurt you Kacey." "Please, just give it a chance."

She was still unsure. "Ok."

"Ok?

"Yeah." They hugged.

"So does this mean you're my girlfriend?"

"Yes." They kissed.
